This is gonna be quite odd to admit, but here it goes, I have been searching high and low doing copious amounts of research in order to find an authentic Mexican restaurant in the Springfield area. My husband is a bit of a Simon Cowell when it comes to Mexican food and I knew I could not afford to screw this up . When we had a visitor come from a foreign land I knew this was the perfect occasion to put my research skills to good use and pray for the best. The parking lot intimidated me a bit at first, but everything after parking was a total home run. My husband was loving his Molay enchiladas and my kids were happy with their street tacos. Four friends and I lunched here today, a first for all of us. The Yelp rating was the reason I suggested our group coming here. So that was a risk - unknown quality and location unlike our usual spots. We were all pleased with the fare presented and couldn't asked for better service. The noise from the bar (I think) was a little loud but didn't really compete with some of the loud guests who are there while we were. 3.5 stars If you coming for some good enchiladas this place isn't it (please stop drowning things in cheese sauce) but if you're looking for bomb authentic carne asada and huge burritos this place is for sure it!! But I would definitely take it to go as the service really wasn't great. If you're Hispanic but don't speak Spanish you're treated rudely like you should be ashamed you speak English, also our server maybe came to our table once and I had to hunt them down to pay the bill, just overall not the best experience, they also charge for everything including limes. Tasty tex-mex paired with friendly service means Los Michoancanos Garcias will be added to my rotation, especially since they are open on Mondays (unlike some of our other favorite local tex-mex places). PROS The menu is wide ranging, with lots of options for different tastes. This was my first visit, and the server did a great job of suggesting some of the favorites. I tried the California Plate (mixed fajitas on a bed of rice covered in queso) and it did not disappoint. The meat was seasoned well and there was a nice balance of meat and veg. The service was prompt and friendly without being overbearing or pushy. I was there on the later side for lunch, but there were plenty of tables occupied, clearly doing a solid business (a good sign!). CONS If you are looking for deeply authentic, regional Mexican dishes, this probably isn't the place as most of the menu is much more tex-mex inspired. The ambiance isn't super fancy, but everything is clean and well kept. OVERALL I was impressed after my first visit and plan to be back soon! Good tex-mex comfort food for a reasonable price; I call it a win. read more

This is a secret amazing spot to be found on west sunshine! I see the outside signs features slot of good stuff, and ofc they do tacos tuesday! They also do like desserts or snacks like mangonada, fruit cocktails mexican style, elotes and etc. We went to try the food and it was amazing, hand downs to the street tacos! Taste so good! And their fajitas are very tasty! Highly recommended if u want some yummy authentic Mexican food. We try the Mexican fruit cocktails mix with chamoy, and tajin and other stuff. I didn't get a chance to take a picture, it was almost half gone. The Elotes was very creamy and full of flavor. Must try this place, they have the entree to fill u up, and their dessert snack to satisfy the sweet tooth! MEH. If i'm honest, it wasn't great. The "chicharrones" were pork rinds and definitely not what i was expecting - in NYC it is something much more delicious and not something i can buy in a bag in walmart. The Queso was good. I ordered street tacos, the meat was very dry and overall just really underwhelming as a taco goes. I have always been of the belief there are no bad tacos. Found this authentic restaurant in a strip mall during a trip to Springfield. With a name like that we knew it would be authentic and it was. My wife ordered a steak burrito smothered in white cheese sauce. It was huge and tasty. She was thumbs up on it. My dish on the other hand was a thumbs down. I wanted fish tacos and I think my mistake was that I wanted it breaded and they really prepared it grilled. In there desire to please me I think they breaded it and it came out dry. Presentation was poor as well as the three tacos came with lots of fish inside a corn tortilla but nothing else. I still think this restaurant is a go. My wife's burrito was good and the place is authentic Mexican. I will come back and give it another shot. read more

I think the fact that this Los Michoanos Garcias location is so close in proximity to it's competitor, Tortilleria Perches, makes both restaurants better. The proof is going to LMG's Glenstone & Sunshine location where the food quality is spotty. The extra drive is worth it...their original West Sunshine location is consistently good and well attended by the Hispanic community which should be a testimony to their traditional quality. With such an extensive menu, it's easy to find a new or old favorite. We start out with their margaritas (decent) & the guacamole which is tasty but creamy instead of the chunkier style which I prefer with distinct ingredients. My wife loves their Enchilladas Suizas or the Camarones Chipotle when she's in the mood for seafood. I enjoy the burritos whether the Acapulco (awesome!), the Texano or simply the de Pollo. Sometimes we share one of their variety of fajitas instead which are also notably good. We think this location is one of the top 5 Mexican restaurants in the Springfield area. I think the term, "hole-in-the-wall" instead of "dive" is more accurate. The service, ambiance & cleanliness (98/100) is adequate but the highlight is it's mastery of it's menu. Best Mexican food in Missouri. Chips and salsa was great with freshly fried chips. I got the fajitas which were excellent and the corn tortillas that came on the side were homemade. Ok, I read all the reviews, and I have wanted to try it out for myself! My girlfriend works across from them and eats there often, always praising the food. Picking a Sunday, very busy, was good and bad I guess. I'm fine with waiting for my food, since I've been cooking seriously since the age of twelve, hardcore Italian family, thanks Mom for that. I also cooked for 8 years in the Marine Corps, and attended many advanced training classes. I also have a degree in restaurant management. Starting with the chips and salsa, very weak. The chips were too thick, and flavorless. The 'salsa' was thin and very bland. It wasn't really salsa at all. It had no substance, and simply wet the chips, no chunks to scoop up. The tamales were very good! Large enough, spicy enough, with a decent amount of filling. As for the rice and beans, tasty, but nothing special to report either. Overall good, but it was a little disappointing considering all the five star reviews. Better than most; like Perches, Paloma, and Primas. My last duty station paired me up with a retired Hispanic gunnery sergeant, and his tamales were epic! Families make tamales together at the holidays for the rest of the holidays, and we're talking about twenty or thirty dozen tamales at a clip. I might add we were in Southern California, so there was no shortage of Mexican food for comparison. I will be going back to try again this week.... read more

There are those who like this restaurant. We are not among them. We had been wanting to try them for some time given the good things that many on the FB page Eat Springfield say about the place. First the positive. The place is huge and roomy. We were seated in a booth with no other booth behind us, which we appreciated. That was the best thing about the place. Service was so-so, just that. The red salsa was not good. It's really something for me not to eat a salsa, but I didn't like this one. I asked if they had a green salsa, the waiter hesitated and then said it would be extra. Now at two of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Springfield, ordering green salsa for your chips is not an issue and not an extra charge (their names below). So I was surprised and declined. It seemed to take a while for our meals to come out. Presentation and portions were very good. It's just the flavors we didn't care for. The rice and beans were so bland, tasteless. I appreciate refried beans without that much lard in them. Paul had carnitas and I had chilaquiles verdes. He gave his meal a 5 out of 10. I didn't care for my meal at all. The verde sauce was sour, made it difficult to eat the entree. The fried eggs have that crispy brown you see on eggs fried by those who don't know how to cook eggs. Anyway, I ate some of it, but left a large portion. We have both decided we will not return. We are going to try other places in town, Springfield has many Mexican restaurants, and we plan to try them all, but so far we have never been displeased with the food at Taqueria Cachanilla (excellent green salsa and spicy fajitas and impeccably attentive and friendly service) and our favorite being Tortilleria Perches (outstanding salsas, especially the green salsa, wonderful corn tortillas, Guisado de Barbacoa is my favorite entree, large and stuffed gorditas, Paul likes the carnitas). read more
