They will steal and scam you here not put meals in the bag and argue with you. Then keep charging your credit card over 5 times for the same meal they charged you for the original meal. They over charge you. They will cuss you out if you complain. They also have been known to sneeze and cough in food and still serve it. This place needs shut down. Not only for customer safety. The neighborhood and businesses around you are fed up with your loud business blaring music that we can all hear it half a mile away. Taking up other businesses parking lots. Gross food. I got food poisoning this time and also last time. Will not be back and I suggest you don't eat here if you want Mexican. La hacienda on glenstone is way better. One of my favorite Mexican food joints in Springfield. I used to work nearby and would frequent this place at a minimum weekly. Sadly I work on the south side of town now but manage to get back every month or so to meet up with friends. Food is always consistent. Service today was great. driving through from Branson to St. Louis and found this restaurant off of Highway 44 my husband and I stopped in on Cinco de Mayo immediately got seated, the faculty you immediately gave us chips and salsa and the waiter immediately came over and served us. We ordered water and chicken beans and rice with chorizo, heard that there was karaoke going on in the other room and boy it was Poppin was amazing and very polite and very efficient.!!! read more

Lady and I have been coming here on and off quite a bit over the last year. Service is always prompt and they do a pretty good job of keeping track of special requests. My favorites are dollar taco's on Tuesday and their burritos. My wife likes their taco salad bowls. The Good Good Deals. Flavorful food. Friendly staff. My and my husband had dinner here last night 12/18/2020 and had the WORST experience!! We got there right before seven and they were completely out of chips and salsa. First few times we went it was great. The last time we ever will go there the Molcajete bowl was cold. The stone bowl is supposed to be hot and the food in it should be boiling when it comes out. Worst Mexican food I've ever had! Despite the food being poor quality, which alone wouldn't have been worthy of a review, it's more the fact that my burrito was the fillings of a burrito on a plate with a half piece of really hard tortilla on top. It was clearly meant to make it look like it was wrapped, but they must have run out of tortilla, or who knows what their idea of a burrito is. Terrible! I was in town for work, and unfortunately this was the nearest Mexican place near my hotel that was open. Would have been better off at Taco Bell down the street. The waitress was very apologetic, but the people that looked like they managed the place, or owned it, looked like they couldn't care less! I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that piece of tortilla was off of someone else's plate and reused. That's how badly I feel about this restaurant. read more

Here's why I give 3 stars; the wait on food and drinks is really long time. Sometimes you come at 7pm and they want to close at 8 but sign posted says 10. The food is really good and the proportions are plenty. The drinks are fabulous. Went here a few times and do recommend the food. read more

I usually end up there later in the evening so the service will undoubtably be terrible but the food will be screaming hot and they're never out of any ingredient. It's really hard for me to review Mexican restaurants because the components are all the same. However, Plaza Mexico is clean and you always get a lot of food. The building has been repainted a million times and always with some terrible neon color. Anyway, it's your basic Mexican food. I live close to this little restaurant so I do carryout a lot. The portions are always of good size and they send quite a few chips and salsa home with you for free. They can have it ready in ten minutes. When we do dine in, the service is always quick and courteous. My husband always has Enchiladas Mexicanas which is three different enchiladas with sauces. Kind of looks like the Mexican flag. He absolutely loves it. I switch it up a little between Tacos de Carne Asada and Tacos al Carbon. Stuffed with tender beef and easy to handle size. It's a little out of the way on the west side of town, but we don't have too many non-fast food places around here so it's a decent, mid-priced meal to handle a Mexican food craving. I met a customer here when in Springfield and they have quite an extensive menu. I was really in the mood for Fish tacos but there weren't any on the menu that I could see. I asked our server and he said that they weren't on the menu but they would be glad to make me some. Then asked me if I wanted them grilled or fried. I ordered grilled, they were awesome and I told the manager that he should really add them to the menu or at least offer them as a special one or two days a week. Great food! read more

Then when I ordered the chicken taco, soft shell - I got hard shell with beef. By far the WORST service I have ever received. I am not one to make an effort to slam a business, however this was such a negative experience that I couldn't help it. It took more than 20 minutes to even have our drink orders taken, then another probably 15 before they came for our orders. I couldn't even get their attention to get a straw, and then after that they brought me the wrong order entirely. After waiting for another 30 minutes we finally just had them take my meal off the ticket. And I heard them laughing about it afterward (I speak enough Spanish to understand). I was a waitress for a long time and appreciate when things are busy, but there were only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant by the time we left. I used to really like the food at this place. I would order it by phone at least three or four times a week and grace the restaurant itself at least 2 to 3 times a month. I have spent hundreds of dollars here. But I have grown increasingly upset the last few times I've been here. These days, I can get them to answer the phone once a week. Even when they are open and not busy. The last two times I've arrived they never put my order in, tonight, I stood there for 30 minutes waiting for my food without anyone saying a word to me about it. I finally asked where it was because they had not kept me updated and they said it was delayed and it's coming. There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. As a matter fact all the waitress would say is how do you want to pay for this. I said I would rather pay when it comes out, because if it doesn't come out in the next few minutes I will probably leave, because I've been here for 30 minutes and I called in 15 minutes before that. She got mad, slammed the register drawer and stalked off. I think I was most upset that I've been such a loyal customer for years to get to this point was pretty upsetting for me.
