What a fun evening. We had dinner then participated in the bachata dance class. I had a delicious vodka drink with watermelon that was called La Sandia. The shrimp tacos were delicious; I added spicy chile to them and they were fantastic. The side of fries were crispy and a good appetizer choice. The dance lesson was so much fun. We will be attending more often. It's pretty spacious and has a neat set up; when I arrived there was a gentleman playing live music; he was great. He sang lots of different music. Very talented. 1st trip in. Not quite restaurant ambience but cheerful and nicely done albeit a bit cavernous. The waitress was A+ in helpful descriptions, specials and options, really super friendly on slpwish Wed@1pm. Excellent menu w/new-to-us flavor combos. After a full day at Wonders of Wildlife one must turn to Yelp to know where to go for amazing mouth watering food. This place was the far away winner. I had a bit of added pressure since my best bud is in town from far away, I didn't want to have a bad experience. This place is beautiful inside and so versatile. They have country music nights as well as dancing lessons on top of having amazing amazing food. Their three taco lunch special was truly remarkable and a total deal. I love trying new local places. Especially in my favorite part of Southwest MO. The adventure began when I walked in at 8 o'clock at night. As I rounded the corner, I saw Buddy the elf (and friend) sitting on a barstool with a guitar. I was hooked. Now for the food, the street tacos are delicious. How to find a place to watch the Florida Panthers hockey game. It stumbled upon this place thinking it was just an all out sports bar. They did put the game on the stage TV, which was awesome until the band started setting up. But we understand business is business. We moved to the bar and finish the game. The guac, salsa and chips were delicious. I have to congratulate them on having some decent wine to drink, which is a rare find in a sports bar. Their Malbec was very nice. Then we went for the Aquachile Verde. I thought it was amazing. She thought it was so so just not her cup of tea. But that's OK because she loved the initial Gus that we had. We ordered more, but it just wasn't as good as the first batch. A little bit of inconsistency in the kitchen. Staff was excellent. Extremely accommodating. And very friendly. As was the band that was coming into set up. After a long day at airports and then an exhausting stressful Florida Panthers game ( which we wine) and yet an hour to drive we were unable to stay to watch. But definitely interested in returning someday to enjoy the music. Definitely a fan of their food. And hopefully now they are fans of the Florida Panthers! read more

When you've had a place on your must-visit list for ages, expectations tend to run high. OXO was one such spot for me but it turned out to be a massive letdown. The photos from the reviews painted a picture of tantalizing dishes that could make your mouth water at first glance, but in reality? It was quite disappointing. Let's start with the silver linings--because hey, there were a couple! The restrooms were squeaky clean and fully stocked (always a win). Our waitress was pleasant, and the greeting/seating process went off without a hitch. We strolled in on a Thursday night and were seated right away--no surprise there since the place was pretty empty, save for one other table. Glancing around, it felt more like we had stumbled into a nightclub, not a restaurant. Perhaps that's where OXO shines: after a few too many drinks, the food might just hit different. But let's talk about the food. Both my husband and I went for the 12-inch burritos (or so we thought). What landed on our table was much smaller, packed with a disproportionate amount of rice and beans. And to add a twist, they gave us two steak burritos instead of one chicken and one steak like we ordered. One bite into my steak burrito had me thinking, "Well, maybe it's salvageable." I quickly learned that it wasn't. The steak was dry, tough, and chewy--a triple threat and not in a good way. My sides didn't fare much better. The elote, though not terrible, was oddly watery, and the curly fries? They were like a solid, freezer-burned cluster that was deep fried. The ranch sauce was pretty good, though, so props to that small delight! As for my son, he tried the cheeseburger--a safe bet for a kid, right? Not so much. It was poorly cooked, and if a burger-loving kid like him complains about his burger, you know it's a bad sign. ETA: My son said the burger was very strongly citrus flavored and a bit sour. My husband also noticed that it was very undercooked in the center, but it looked overcooked to me on the outside. Now, onto the starters. The fresh guacamole and queso came with salsa, and I'll admit, they were decent. The queso leaned on the watery side, but the flavor wasn't bad. As for the guac, it was good, but it seemed store-bought. Good flavor, yes; freshly prepared? Definitely not. While OXO may have its strengths in music, dancing, and drinks, the food missed the mark on almost every level, aside from the appetizers. Unless I'm in search of a vibrant nightlife vibe, I don't see myself returning. One thing's for sure: I won't be coming back for the food. read more

Looked for a place close to where I was staying in Springfield. OXO was rated pretty high -- and I wanted Fajitas, so I gave it a try. Was by myself, so I ate at the bar.one of the owners, Victor, was bartender. Real nice guy. I ordered shrimp cocktail for starters, then Fajitas. He looked at me funny and asked 'you want them both?' I said yes, wondering why that seemed odd to him. Well, they brought out the shrimp, and it was a meal in itself. I also ordered a side of guacamole. It's a good thing I was hungry ( I only eat one meal per day) because it was a LOT of food. Plate presentation was nice. I only had beer, so I can't rate the cocktails. Anyway, I think this is probably a happening spot on weekends -- live music and such. For me, I have found a new spot to eat while I'm in Springfield. read more

Im from Ohio and in Missouri for work. After reviewing the large number of Mexican restaurants in the area I chose OXO. With their great reviews and a lot of unique menu options this seemed like the best choice. The waiter, Victor, was so great at suggesting menu options and the decision was so hard. I chose the Garlic Chimchurri Shrimp and of coarse the fresh made guacamole! First I love guacamole and this was by far the best I've ever had! Then my shrimp meal arrives and I'm instantly hoping it tastes as good as it smells. Perfection! The shrimp are cooked perfect with amazing flavor and the sauted onions take it up a notch. The only disappointment is that I live in Ohio and can't frequent this place! Run don't walk to get an amazing Mexican meal and great service! read more

I think I'm in love... OXO certainly qualifies for "dive" status by it's exterior alone, but it's an "eclectic dive": Clean, light & spacious belying it's small, poster-studded entry. Latin "artwork" adorns it's walls & music constantly fills it's air. Has a stage for late night jammin'. Acoustically solid. Big, open bar against the wall with ample seating & beaucoup tables on the floor. OXO's can hold more than a few... While OXO's is a Sports Bar per se, it's not your typical wall-to-wall screens with every event on. There is one mega screen behind the stage with various smaller ones intersperse across the bar. But it is sufficient to catch a game and a nice compliment to a very sturdy, multifaceted establishment. The service help dresses the part with common, appropriately skimpy, black outfits. Friendliest bunch of gals - even entertaining - highly efficient as well. We were seated quickly with drink & appie orders promptly taken by our gal, Talia, but we never felt rushed our entire evening. The drink offerings were vast & varied. The wife had The Paloma, while I had both a Traditional Margarita and one of their many flavored ones, a Hibiscus. The reason for my combo is that they were busy whipping up fresh hibiscus syrup for the flavored marg which I would have had to wait 15 minutes for...so I ordered both. That seems to be a theme: Fresh ingredients, especially in their food. We started with the recommended Guacamole & Salsa with Homemade Chips which was excellent. We then had the Street Tacos: My wife had the Shrimp; while I had the recommended Pastor & Chorizo. All were awesome. The flavors of the fresh ingredients really stood out, especially the cilantro. I understand that they have Taco Tuesdays...we won't miss those in the future. The prices were good, the food authentic & flavorful, and the service excellent, making it an overall great experience. What a perfect spot to keep in my back pocket for a spontaneous meal as a couple, visitors or with friends. OXO's is now a future staple as another of SGF's hidden gems. read more
