We finally tried this place a few weeks ago after I had this on my list for quite a while. I have…read moreto say that it was a very shocking disappointment. They have a Mexican food buffet that they put out. Online, I saw that they do a different buffet for breakfast, so I assumed the dinner buffet would be fresh food. We came for dinner and everything looked like it had been sitting there the entire day. Things were dry, crusty, and some were soggy. The yellow queso was terrible. There weren't a lot of options either. You had to ask what everything was because nothing had labels. It was pretty awful. They do ask you if you want flour or corn tortillas with your food so we were able to choose those. The tortillas were good. The guy who greeted us and seated us was very nice. Overall, I can pretty confidently say that we will not be back. They would need to completely overhaul what they're doing for that to even be a possibility.

I'm originally from San Diego, and I've been on the hunt for a place that hits like Tacos El Gordo…read morein National City. If you're from SD, you already know that's the gold standard. And man... I finally found it. These tacos are the real deal. Authentic, packed with flavor, and made fresh right in front of you. No shortcuts. No watered-down Midwest version. Just straight up legit. I had the pastor and carne asada tacos, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it gave me a little taste of home. The pastor was perfectly seasoned with that classic flavor you only get when it's done right. The carne asada was tender, juicy, and loaded with flavor. Simple ingredients, executed perfectly. Springfield honestly lacks a lot of truly great food spots, but this place is a hidden gem. If you're craving authentic street tacos and not some Tex-Mex imitation, this is it. I'll definitely be back.

We only get to Springfield once a month and always look forward to eating out. We had plans to go…read moreto a different place today (and now really wish we had) but saw a Facebook post about their $1 tacos so that's why we went there instead. Paul had the carnitas tacos and liked them very much. I ordered chicken fajitas and did not like them. I was impressed that the fajitas were mostly thin-sliced chicken (which I prefer) rather than half onions and green peppers. But I didn't care for the way they were seasoned and the chicken had a rubbery texture. The corn tortillas that came with the fajitas were larger than usual (which I like) but overcooked, crisp, which did not work for filling and folding. Chicken fajitas are one of Paul's favorites and even he didn't care for them. I also did not care for the salsa they bring out with the chips. Service was very friendly, but we had to wait way too long for a check and finally just had to ask for it. Except for the $1 tacos, we cannot recommend the place, and we won't be back. Looks like the second review came in right after I posted mine. Thinking it might be an employee or one of the owners who saw and didn't like my honest review. But La Cabana needs to make some changes to its recipes and service before it can be one of the Springfield's top Mexican restaurants and compete with the best ones like Tortilleria Perches and Tacos El Gordo, just to name two.
