The location is convenient, as is the grab-and-go food concept, but I find their quality slightly overrated and their food slightly overpriced. Customer service is good and the staff are efficient at this location. I've never been wowed by their food, though. The warm breakfast wrap was stale on the edges, despite my picking it up just an hour after their opening, so give that a pass. Their chai latte is ok, but not better than the Starbucks next door. Super convenient downtown location, great for a quick organic coffee before work or a pick-me-up at 2 pm. There's not a whole lot of seating inside, and immediately outside the shop there are usually panhandlers, rose bouquet vendors, flutists/xylophonists, and hip hop dancers all vying for your attention and contributions. It's a lively area, albeit crowded. The restaurant has a good mix of chicken, turkey, roast beef, and ham sandwiches. I absolutely love their 3.7 oz ginger shots (definitely has a kick to it and an apple-y hint), their cold turmeric latte (refreshing, brimming with ice, distinct turmeric flavor, and not too sweet), and their coconut water (only one brand beats their taste, but their taste is pretty far up there on my faves). A little on the pricey side, but overall very good quality. I ordered the 12 oz turmeric latte today after work and got it to go. Tasted delicious! I kind of feel like this is some strange hybrid of old-school diner meets futuristic Japanese vending station. There's so much sleek metal, yet the employees here are all efficient Asians. I faced some not inconsiderable cognitive dissonance upon walking in. All I needed after a couple of extremely long days, and a few hours of being out and about town in the stifling heat, was a cup of iced coffee to keep me going. At just over $2.20, the single-size cup I was offered was definitely caffeinated enough to have me feeling pretty perky, although not quite as bouncing-of-the-walls jittery that Baked and Wired's iced lattes do. I was able to get about an hour of work done from one of the incredibly small tables, and the outlets nearby let me charge my laptop while I was at it. Unfortunately, since I was on a conference call for most of that time, the space was less conducive to my productivity. Whatever music was playing, they had cranked up to volumes that made hearing my phone an extreme challenge. I suppose you take the good with the bad. The first time I walked in here to grab breakfast to go, I left empty handed as nothing really seemed enticing enough for the price. But it's so conveniently located, I was determined to take the plunge and find a go-to breakfast option. This may not be a problem for those who are familiar with Pret A Manger's offerings, but really, they should be a little more clear with their labels. My first attempt was an "energy bagel." While it is possible I just missed the description, I was dismayed to find raisins plugged into my bagel. Also, when they ask if you want your bagel toasted, you may want to specify that you also want it halved. When I opened my little bag in my office, I found a whole, uncut bagel that was slightly toasted on the outside. The texture is also not very bagel-like, but more like a softish bread in the shape of a doughnut. My second attempt was a "pot o' goodness." Blame my poor logical skills, but for some reason I thought the green slivers on the yogurt were sliced cucumbers, and I thought Pret A Manger had stumbled upon an unusual pairing of cucumbers, granola, yogurt, and brown sugar, and I was intrigued. The green stuff turned out, more sensibly, to be slivers of green apples. It was good enough, but at over 3.50 for a very small bowl, I don't think this will be a regular. What a wonderful destination to arrive at as you exit the Farragut West metro station (blue line). This place almost has a bright Starbuck-est feel to it. The food was oh so delicious. I got the avocado wrap, Mediterranean Seafood Stew, Carrot Cake and Strawberry Lemonade. The Wrap As soon as I bit into the wrap I could taste the freshness. I was happy with every bite. The Stew Typically when I buy soups and stews I have to add pepper to them. This stew had the perfect amount of seasonings, along with enough seafood to have a piece of seafood with every delectable spoonful. The Strawberry Lemonade O to the M to the G. I've never tasted strawberry lemonade this good and over the years I've had a ton of different varieties. The Carrot Cake If I did not open the box to get this little piece of heaven out, you could not have paid me to believe the carrot cake came out of a box. It tasted like it came straight from grandma's kitchen. The cake is kept in the refrigerated section, which is fine with me because I like my carrot cake cold. The Price They are a bit pricey, however I am sure a lot of the cost is calculated into their location. My daughter got the egg salad sandwich, along with a bag of popcorn. She said they were delicious. This meant a lot to me because she is a finicky teenager. My boyfriend got the avocado sandwich, along with the Mediterranean Stew, Ginger Bear (can) and carrot cake. I had a bad experience here this morning. The workers at the other side of the counter were definitely not paying attention to me. I asked if they still carry love bars and the cashier said no. I checked the counter area and found love bites instead (basically smaller version). They're basically the same but she didn't inform me about these ones. Had a salmon tzatziki flatbread and a Maine lobster roll. Sandwich range from $5-10 dollars but it's definitely worth it. Makes me realize fast food can be just as good as restaurants. The manager, barista, and the rest of the staff went way out of their way to make sure that everybody was having a good time and not at all stressed out by the buzz in the room. The international cafe chain, Pret a Manger, has gone vegan-friendly! This is exciting for two reasons--they make really good food and they are located all over the place! I headed to my local Pret a Manger to check out the many new vegan selections. This cafe operates like a to-go place even though you can take your to-go items and eat them at the cafe. Everything is prepared in advance and available in the hot or cold areas. There is no custom ordering. The first thing I tried was the Mediterranean Mezze Salad. I loved this salad and I didn't even realize that I could have chosen a dressing as well. Loaded with falafel, butternut squash, beet hummus, beets, mesclun, harissa, chickpeas, mint, and pomegranate seeds, it was delicious. The beet hummus had enough flavor to carry the dish without additional dressing. Excited about this dish, I went back to try another. The Miso Sweet Potato Bahn Mi was even better than the salad. On a fresh French baguette was miso-marinated sweet potato, cucumber, carrots, pickled cabbage and carrot, sesame seeds, cilnatro and mint with vegan mayonaisse and chipotle sauce. So much flavor, so little time. Other vegan items include Miso soup, Moroccan Lentil soup, Spicy Black Bean and Mango Wrap, and the Turmeric Tofu and Sweet Potato Balance Box. My favorite part? Everything is labeled as vegan or not in the store and online. They make it so easy to choose vegan and eat delicious food. With a drink, meals range from $8 to $12. This is my go to place for lunch. It's fast, the food is fresh and already made and the employees are wonderful. Today I got one of their new items - the roasted beet and sweet pea hummus sandwich. I received an email about their new items and was excited to try them. I will definitely be getting this again. It's FULL of roasted beets, tons of Parmesan cheese, and a little hint of mint (so if you're not a fan of mint, don't get it). It's seriously delicious. I also got my favorite chocolate chip cookie and some OJ to wash it down. If you haven't had their chocolate chip cookies, you are missing out. Do yourself a favor and go buy one. This place was a lifesaver when I was in grad school. Lots of tasty and healthy options for me to choose from: a welcome break from the unhealthy myriad of fast food options. The falafel wrap was my favorite. I used to look forward to class nights, just because I knew I'd get my wrap fix. They also carry small portions of snacks (candies, trail mix) which are nothing short of a Godsend when you hit the halfway point of a 3-hour night class and need an extra boost of energy. The staff always greeted me warmly, rang my order up quickly, and had me out of there in no time... which was great, because when you're rushing from class to work, there really isn't much time to spare. read more

I forgot how much I like Pret. I had one below underneath my old office and used to go all the time. It was a scorching day so I was looking to eat a salad or cold sandwich. My coworker and I split the miso sweet potato banh mi and the spicy chicken avocado wrap. Both hit the spot~ The banh mi wasn't authentic by any means, but it was stuffed with cilantro and some sort of pickled slaw. I was surprised how well the sweet potato paired with the flavors. The spicy chicken wrap would have to be my favorite. It was loaded with avocado and veggies. The tiny brownies and the popcorn are also my snack-go-tos to perk me up during the work day. Good but not fresh. Convenient but expensive. My fallafel wrap w spicy tomato sauce was tasty, but the tortilla was stale after being heated for who-knows-how-many hours on the heated shelf. Parts of the tortilla were dried out and crisp like a chip, while parts were wrapable like they had never been toasted. Bottom line is:this place is NOT fresh. In fact, they put the word "just made" in quotes, as if they know placing food out in shelves all day isn't exactly "just made". Check the pics. Convenient bc there's free wifi and it sits right on top of the metro station (Farragut West). This morning, I stopped into Pret on 18th & I to grab breakfast and accidentally left my phone, credit cards, and driver's license. I returned less than 15 minutes later (after first conducting due diligence and checking my car first) and was informed by the gentleman whom I see almost daily that a phone had indeed been found. However, when the woman who rang me up that morning went to look for it, she informed me no phone had been found. I asked her to look again since the only places I had been that morning were my car, Pret, my office but was again informed after a brief search that the phone was not there. I returned to my office and performed a "find my device" search via iCloud. The phone's location was identified as being at the Pret. I returned once again and asked to speak with a manager. After explaining that my phone was, in fact, at Pret and having a colleague call the phone so that I could verify via my Apple watch that the phone was nearby, the manager was able to find my phone, which had been placed in "the wrong location." This is absolutely unacceptable customer service and borders on theft. Not only did the woman hold my belongings hostage, she diverted time away from my workday. I will not be visiting the Pret on 18th & I again nor any other location; which is a shame, because, as a regular customer, I have had positive interactions with most of the staff at this location. read more

My review of Pret A Manger kind of plays out like that scene. Only without cool sideburns or a .44 magnum. Or that bank shootout. Or a body count. You see, I stop by here at least a week for just one thing: my usual. The usual being a egg salad sandwich with a strip of bacon on a baguette. It's like Dirty Harry's usual in that it defies a set mealtime. You don't need a time or an excuse to enjoy an egg salad sandwich. I have no idea if they're intended for breakfast or lunch (my hunch is that they're for breakfast, since they're made fresh and placed by the register). All I know is I have to stop by once a week to partake regardless of what meal they're actually intended for. Now, normally I wouldn't bother with a review of a place where I almost always get the same thing at. But I'm reviewing it for reasons aside from solely masturbating my literary organ. Every time I come here, I'm unfailingly greeted with: - a smile - a friendly greeting - eye contact - a transaction time of no more than a minute from getting in line to leaving, regardless of how busy it is. Do you know how rare that is in DC? I can get a fresh $3 breakfast with quick service and a smile, or I can pay a few bucks more for a fat-laden breakfast greasebomb rung up by someone who I'm clearly inconveniencing by my temerity in wanting to exchange money for advertised goods and/or services. The verdict: stellar customer service is rare these days, particularly during the AM rush. It's this focus on customer service that enables me to safely award Pret four stars, even though I rarely stray from my "usual." read more

At first glance, everything appears to be premade, prepackaged, and chilling in the refrigerated case when you arrive. Bleh! In practice, however, turnover seems high and they're constantly bringing out items from the back that are still warm, so it seems that many of the items are pretty fresh. Based solely on the packaging though, it isn't very easy to tell. If you have the time, I would wait around to see what they bring out from the back. Sandwiches are tasty and a good size. I like that you can get half the sandwich for half the cost if you aren't that hungry, or you can two different halves to mix it up. They do a very good job with the desserts. The servings initially seem a bit small but are pretty filling. I'd pick one of these over a mediocre, overpriced DC cupcake any day. The carrot cake was quite good - moist and flavorful with a good cream cheese frosting. The raspberry bar is -very- good. Lots of buttery goodness (like make cardboard boxes turn translucent buttery) with a good raspberry jam flavor. Also very crumbly so it can be a little messy. Probably not a good idea to eat these things very often though. read more

It's just a sandwich and if you haven't had the good sense to check the menu online BEFORE arriving then kindly stand back while you consider your options so the rest of us VERY busy and PLAUSIBLY more important people can make our picks so we can go back to saving the world! Also, there is not just one single check out line--there's like 4. So feel free to cut past all the lemmings who are herding in one line, because you are a bright young thing who knows how to pay for her food in a timely manner. Honestly Pret, great sandwiches, but life would be easier if you'd just throw up some of those rope thingies they have at airports so people know where to go and stand. Not a lot but there were a few kinds of maki rolls from Genji sushi (same carrier as wholefoods market) Organic milk and same price for mocha and cappuccino ($2.71 for regular size). I love starbucks but I might choose Pret a manger over starbucks for espresso drinks. read more

So far, I really like this place. I actually never stopped at a pret when I was in london, but now that one is in the same compound as my office, I thought I'd try it out. Yes, it's pricey, but the food quality is worth it to me. I'm a complete sucker for organic and preservative free. Also, they have soymilk out in the coffee fixins area, which is a true rarity at most chains (other than the coffee bean, which hasn't made its way out to our coast). The coffee is actually strong and good, unlike other restaurants in the nearby food court that will remain unnamed. As for the food... you cannot go wrong with the oatmeal. You get to choose if you want it made with milk or water and with or without maple syrup. It automatically comes loaded with dried fruit and nuts. Soooo tasty. It's a once a week treat for me. They also have a variety of salads and sandwiches to pick from at lunch. I love that you can get just a half sandwich, so I can still rock my skinny jeans. And the service? No complaints, I've only had positive experiences so far. read more

I confess to going to Pret at least once a week. Its prime location and super convenient yet tasty foods keep pulling me back. But if I had to choose one item and one item only to buy from here, it would, no doubt, be their almond croissant. Absolutely delicious! Their pain au chocolat or chocolate croissant is also very good, arguably one of the best I've ever had from any bakery. Almost unbelievable that some of the best freshly baked croissants that I've ever had come from a British chain. These croissants are right up there with the pastries I've had from Paul, if not better. Joy of joys! I spent 6 months living in London and Pret became, so to speak, my bread and butter, as there was one on every corner. I ate there many a time for a quick, cheap, and tasty lunch. I don't find myself in the Farragut West area often, so was grateful when after an appointment in the area I remembered that Pret was there, calling to me. Walking in, the cafe is a lot smaller than the ones in London. No matter, I knew the routine, so marched right over to the sandwich fridge. I was a little perplexed about the sandwich choices (ones in England have bigger selection) as I'm definitely a turkey girl and the only turkey sandwich came with bacon (and I'm not a bacon girl). I decided to try a half-sized balsamic chicken sandwich and got a cup of Miso soup. The Miso soup was really excellent, and I heated the sandwich up a little bit once I got back to my office to melt the mozzarella and warm it up a bit. My whole meal was very satisfying and very delicious! I of course wasn't expecting to find the standard English Pret tuna and rocket sandwich here, but I still found a good lunch at a great price. read more

YUM. As I write this, I'm chowing down on the last few bites of my chicken and avocado salad with balsamic vinaigrette - for a ready-made salad, this one was a very pleasant surprise! The chicken was peppery and cooked just right, the avocado perfectly ripe, and the addition of craisins and walnuts added some nice flavor and texture. It didn't look like a very large serving, but it filled me up, and for just over $8 it was a bit less expensive than a comparable Chop't salad. I also got a very respectable cup of afternoon pick-me-up coffee. The whole lunch with coffee ran me $10. Not inexpensive, but about on par for the area. I'm a fan! read more

Been here once, and will not be coming back for at least one big reason: Their specialty here is the pre-wrapped, already-made sandwich. If you are even a slightly picky eater (which I am, I usually ask for my sandwiches and salads without sauce/dressing) there is nothing for you here. I could not find one sandwich without sauce slathered on it. The sandwiches were also small and relatively expensive. I don't think its unreasonable to have at least one sandwich available for people who don't like sauce! I can't comment on the taste, because I ended up asking my lunch partner if we could go somewhere else. I felt bad, but there was absolutely nothing I liked there! I think this place is very hit or miss depending on what kind of food you like. In additon, this particular restaurant was very small, but also confusing. When we initially walked in I had no clue as to where I was supposed to go. This place is not for me. I love Pret! I wish we had this on the west coast. They have such great lunch selections. It is the best place to stop in for reasonably priced, fresh, and delicious food in DC. Over the years I have probably tried every item they offer, from sandwiches, wraps, sushi, salads, tea, juice, to sweeter treats like brownies and cookies and not once have I disappointed. I appreciate their wide vegetarian selection, love their frequent use of avocado, delicious cheeses, and arugula (oh my), and worship the fact that they offer 1/2 and whole sandwiches. One of my most recent favorites is the falafel wrap. So tasty. Red pepper. Melted cheese. I finish feeling totally satisfied. I am grateful for Pret, as they remove the guilt, extra hours in the gym, and pressure on my wallet that comes along with having a busy schedule that doesn't always allow me to bring lunch from home. First timer here. Got a coffee, water, and egg & bacon baguette. The baguette was not what I expected, it exceeded my expectations. The egg salad was not overly "mayo-y" and had the right amount of pepper and the bacon went well with it. The best part, all three was under $8, which is unheard of in DC (at least to me). I've seen similar sandwiches for $8 by itself. Not a coffee snob, so I can't comment on it. I drank it just to stay awake for a meeting. read more
