Very poor customer service at the back meat shop. The person in charge refused to sell us 3 lbs of goat meat and insisted we purchase 5 lbs instead. He gave a nonsensical excuse saying that no other customer would want to buy the remaining portion. That is not a valid reason to refuse a customer's request, especially when we are willing to pay for what we need. It was only after we questioned him and got into an argument asking why he was refusing to sell us 3 lbs that he finally agreed. I don't understand the negative reviews of this place. When walking down Hillside Avenue through the Little Dhaka area, you can tell from the crowds inside that Premium Sweets is perhaps the most well-regarded establishment of the lot. I would venture to say that the cup of chai I had here was the best I've had in NYC. I have mostly just had sweets here - the mishti doi was very good, I enjoyed it around the corner as dessert after having some jhalmuri at the Tong food cart. Not a great place. Avoid I wanted to give this place a higher rating especially since I eat at the Premium Sweets in Bangladesh often when I'm there. However, when we came here for iftar on Saturday evening, we were greeted by overpriced food that wasn't worth the hype and wasn't anywhere near as good as the original in Bangladesh. On top of that, the chicken in the iftar platter was raw (see picture) and the restaurant didn't replace (made some excuse about not having enough left?) and didn't adjust the final bill. It's time I write an updated review for Premium! Where do I start exactly? I have been going here for years, and yes at times the service was lacking and so was the food. However, it was still a go-to spot, and had chai and samosas as I always wanted. They had good biryani and all that jazz. But recently, they redecorated and expanded! At first I was confused at to what happened to the spot, but then I realized they redid the place. It's like a modern cafe, I can see this being a good place for small dates and meet-ups. You can sit down freely without bumping into anyone and you have more options to choose from which is awesome! The workers seem a lot happier too, and are always willing to help. So what can you get when you're here? For starters try their chai, it doesn't have condensed milk like the old recipe. So it's not quite as bad! You can customize it in regards to how much sugar you want in it. If you're feeling a bit hungry for a snack try their samosas--potato based (aloo) or meat based (usually chicken). They have chicken patties which are in a filo shell, other pastries are there too-- don't be afraid to try them! If you're looking for a solid meal try their biryanis. I love their chicken and lamb biryani, but be warned they may have spice in them. So be prepared to get some water or something If you aren't a spicy type of person. The beef biryani is usually the most spiciest though, you have been warned! However, all the biryanis are great, I can't say either of the listed choices have been a bad decision to eat. They have good curries too, although I'm usually a biryani person -- the beef curries are good! They may have spice again, so be warned. They also have traditional Bengali fish curries too if you love your seafood dishes. If you're looking for dessert, you have cakes to choose from and cupcakes. Along with some traditional south Asian sweets such as chom-choms and barfi (fudge like dessert). You can even opt for a simple jalebi if they're in stock. The price is very reasonable now, and you don't have to worry about space or poor service. Give them a try you don't be unhappy. read more

I used to live in Brooklyn and my apartment used to be in the vicinity of Bangladesh/Pakistani neighborhood and their grocery stores carry these gulab jamun and rasgulla in sweet syrup packaged and the sticker would have premium sweets on it. I used to buy it so often that when I came into store, I had recognized it! I had to buy it of course! You can mix some of the sweets as long as it's the same price per pound. So I got $6 per pound sweets and $8 per pound rasgulla and covered in powder. It's not overly sweet like almost all the sweet restaurants does so I will definitely buy it again! $14 well spent! :) read more

The employee name Nashfiza is very rude and disrespectful. She needs to be disciplined and retrained because she has no respect for others. Her attitude is nasty.. I waited in line to get sweets and as i wait i looked in the glass case on line. 4 guys came for tea and didn't join the line. I said to my mom while waiting how come only we waiting on line. Another lady who was behind us, cut us and went to the same employee and get a tea. We are still waiting on line. I asked her miss is the line only for us because these people came after us, cut in front of us and so did this lady and you continued to cash them out and get their order. She then began to speak bangali to another female employee all this time having a nasty attitude and rolling her eyes as if what i was saying wasn't important to her and our money was of no value. He gave us some really good suggestions on what to try. If you come to this lovely establishment make sure you try their veggie and chicken samosas, chicken kabab, beef curry with a side of naan and paratha. I would have rated this place a 5 for just their sweets alone had it not been for the countless times of horrible service. The sweets are delicious and their snack items including samosas, aloo chop, chotpoti are good. Tea is also good. I have been here many times and I have to say 80% of those times the service sucked. The three ladies who work here during the day are the rudest, unprofessional and ignorant people I've ever come across. The manager is never around and does nothing about hiring these unprofessional people from who knows where. We ordered over $200 worth of sweets for a special event and they did not prepare and package the order. They also provided expired rasmalai even though it was a special order. If the owner or manger sees this review, please do something about your staff and products being sold. Will be reporting this business to the department of health as well. read more
