Seafood stuffed mushrooms

Second time here on my way back to North Carolina -- once again service was fantastic, food was delicious, and they very wonderful meal

Beans and rice
Whitney B.

Service and ambiance are great and as expected. Had the duck gumbo which was dark and elevated vs regular gumbo. The shrinp poor boy was good also but bread needs to be toasted more. The rice and beans were good but luke warm so took away from the experience The highlight for me was the ettoufee. It was the best I had in a very long time. Creamy and decadent. But again not hot enough. So overall could've been a 10 but with food not hot it was an 8.5

Drinks were too strong and premixed. We were charged for fresh strawberries for drink and there were none in the drink. Food was just okay. Alligator bites were under cooked. My crab dip was just okay the bread was good and fresh. My husbands was just okay. The corn pie was the best on his plate. Service was good. Will NOT return or recommend to anyone.

Amazing staff and amazing food! The resteraunt looks great and once again the food never dissappoints!

Shrimp trio
Robert C.

Great ambience and impeccable service. Maybe it was just what I ordered but the food seems to have really gone downhill. I ordered the shrimp Trinity. The fried shrimp was average the stuffed shrimp was good. But I was not impressed at all by the shrimp and grits. The grits were firm and dispensed as a single scoop in the middle of the dish that was cold in the middle. While the sauce itself was flavorful, the shrimp were rubbery. I was disappointed.

Ordered a little bit of everything and unfortunately, did not like most of what was ordered. The best thing we had was the kids alfredo and the roll. The meat in the gumbo was over cooked. The crawfish enchiladas were mostly tortilla, with a small amount of crawfish in a sauce. The dirty rice was dry. Maybe we ordered the wrong items but we were not a fan. The service was good and the atmosphere was great. They have a gator in the front.

Bread pudding

While we are here in Louisiana, we wanted to have Cajun food and we found this restaurant in Lafayette, the heart of Cajun country. We had alligator bites for appetizer. For our main dish, I ordered gumbo and husband ordered crawfish etoufee, and for dessert we shared bread pudding. Glad to finally try alligator - it was fried and coated with breading and tasted like chicken. The gumbo and crawfish were both delicious! Everything we ordered were great! Very cool decor - especially the real alligator display. Service was fast and our server was super nice!

crab fingers

I first came here when moving up north for school 5 years ago, and decided to stop back when passing through moving back down. The food does not disappoint and the decor inside is gorgeous. We got the gulf crab fingers appetizer, which are perfectly fried and come with a remoulade with a little kick of spice. The seafood gumbo is incredible and definitely some of the best gumbo you could get. I love that they work with other local artists and small businesses in the area and even have a list of their local sourcing and vendors in the area. Service is fast and friendly and the prices are great!

I was in town, recruiting at the university of Lafayette and this place was recommended to me by a colleague. It is the quintessential Louisiana Bayou restaurant. The menu is loaded with Louisiana favorites, such as jambalaya, gumbo, and all the seafood you could possibly eat. Having a shellfish allergy wasn't an issue as there were a lot of menu options that did not include seafood. The chicken and sausage gumbo was delicious. The Boudin burger was unique and extremely flavorful. My colleague had jumbo shrimp dinner and those were some of the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. Leave room for the bread pudding because it is not to be missed. Great place for a casual dinner.

Chicken Gumbo and Caesar Salad
Drew C.

I never thought I would be writing a raving review about a caeser salad with chicken, because it's really just the "i'm trying to be healthy" option... but then Louisiana strikes again. Every city has amazing food -- and I visit a lot of places -- but literally every thing, even the most basic of things, in New Orleans and the surrounding area is special. In this case, I had one of the best tasting salads, and even the chicken that went in it (which I had minimal expectations on since it was a lunch special where I got chicken gumbo and a chicken caeser salad for like 12 bucks or something insanely cheap, which was yet again the perfect amount for a fully satisfying meal...) was delicious. We all know chicken is pretty darn difficult to make good without frying it.. it often is dry or chewy but this was just pure perfection. Also, where else do you also get bacon and eggs included in the salad?! I also had the diplomat's old fashion which was phenomenal. I mean, this is the reason I can't live in a place like New Orleans; there are infinite incredible food options at amazing prices, and I'd have no reason to have a kitchen and would want to eat out non-stop, all the time...

Gumbo!!

Prejeans is a required stop any time we are in Louisiana. I'll admit to being a gumbo fanatic and Prejeans is part of the reason. Amazing gumbo, whichever style you go for. The place is usually busy but service is great and the atmosphere is pure Louisiana. Must try if you want the best gunb

Seafood Gumbo
Stacy E.

The seafood gumbo is delicious and FULL of seafood! The fried half & half platter was good and enough to share with my husband. The crawfish etoufee was seasoned just right! The service was fast and friendly with many menu suggestions. The place is clean with a Cajun vibe. Yes, I recommend this place!

Josh F.

The atmosphere is loud and social. The food is full of flavor in every bite. Great service. Highly recommend.

Responding to Chelsa K.'s 1* review. As I am someone who was in the restaurant when it happened…read more I just think it's funny how you aren't mentioning y'all came in as 6 people and then wanted accommodations for 30 people during one of the busiest times of the night. Or that they argued with the amazing manager for nearly an hour total after being told they couldn't accommodate that size party. They're also leaving out the part where people from their group marched in and seated themselves, stood over occupied tables waiting for guests to leave, insisting the hosts clean the tables, and made the entire restaurant uncomfortable. This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with behavior. Any group acting like that would've gotten the exact same response. In short, do better. Y'all came in and ruined everyone's dinner because y'all don't know how to plan ahead. Stop blaming people for your mistakes and take accountability.

This may have been part of the reason its wasn't all that busy on a Tuesday lunch. Similar to some other restaurants in Louisiana I've visited, they have a side with a bar, to-go area and high tops, and a more family oriented side of the restaurant with a bunch of low top tables. Fried pork rinds are served with every table. They have daily plate lunches and the one day I came it was chicken fried steak. However, it's not usually a good idea to order CFS outside of Texas in my experience. Therefore, I ended up ordering the catfish and shrimp platter, served grilled instead and added a $5 strawberry margarita. The entree comes with a side salad but they only have seelct dressings and none which I would typically order, so i just settled on honey mustard. Margarita- for only $5 it's not bad and comes with either sugar or salt rim Catfish and shrimp platter - seasoned with a blackened seasoning but it wasn't spicy. The catfish filet was small and tasted like it was previously frozen. The shrimp were also small and didn't taste much better. Not sure I'd return if ever in Lafayette, as I was really looking for a more festive environment and more grilled options.

We were in the mood for breakfast/brunch and I have to say it was the best breakfast plate I've had in a long time. I had 2 eggs over easy, hash brown potatoes, a large homemade breakfast sausage patty, and a buttery biscuit. I also sampled my husband's biscuits and gravy and I was a little disappointed I hadn't ordered that. The service was friendly but not over the top. We were initially confused about seating and ordering. But, our food came out really quickly, which is always a plus. It's very cozy and you should not expect any frills, but do go if you're looking for a home-cooked meal.

There's no host stand or clear seating system, so the entrance felt chaotic. We weren't sure what to do until a nice local told us to just grab a table. After sitting down, it took about 5 mins for a waitress to stop by with the menus. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, but the ordering process is confusing. We were told breakfast orders would be taken at the table and lunch needs to be ordered separately at the cafeteria style counter. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. Since we had already paid for the lunch item upfront and still hadn't been able to place breakfast order, we decided to cut our losses and went to another restaurant. Overall, wasted 35 mins and left frustrated and disappointed, definitely won't come back!

The fish is fried perfectly. The chicken as well though I could have used a little more seasoning. Sides were good. But that turkey wing. My hubs took one bite. Looked at me and smiled. The star of the show was that okra seafood stew. That was a 10 out of 10 for me! We got the cabbage, but I have never in my life had sweet sugary cabbage. That threw me totally off! My brother loved it and it's definitely an acquired taste. Not for me at all. We had about three hours till closing, and there was a small line so the place does great business and people love it. Growing up, my…read moreparents were fond of them, so they've been a part of most vacations, and many of them tend to blend into one another. Vermilionville, however, stood out as one of the best, and is a memory I'll hang onto for a while. The attendants in period garb were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer our questions. The woman with her spinning wheel even gave us a demonstration. She had taught herself to spin whilst working there and explained the excessive amount of hours it took to finish even one sweater. She also made it possible for me to try the bread pudding I'd been eyeing on the restaurant menu; she warned me they were closing in just 15 minutes so we rushed over and put our order in. Now, I'm not sure if their restaurant has its own yelp page so I'll just review it here. That pudding was the most delicious, most perfect bread pudding I've ever had, and I've tried quite a lot from some of the best places in NOLA. The top was crisply caramelized, and the center was a buttery custard infused with vanilla and cinnamon--an aromatic taste sensation. The server brought me two containers to go (an extra as I'd only asked for one!) and I was so excited to try it, I devoured the first one while wandering between the houses. There were some rather beautiful little homes, furnished with accurate historic decor, and I appreciated that we were able to look at things on our own, at our own pace, free from having to follow a guide. We visited on a day it was set to storm, but we were able to see most of the buildings before the sky opened up on us. We foolishly forgot to bring umbrellas of any kind, so we ended up darting between structures, and eventually taking refuge in the old church while the worst of the rain passed. It was atmospheric and memorable. We found some charming animals in a little barn--a donkey and two sheep and we said hello. There were even mushrooms, and among them we found a single chanterelle, so keep an eye out, fellow mushroom hunters! Lastly, you must leave adequate time to check out the gift shop. They have something for everyone, and much of it made by local artisans! I would recommend Vermilionville to anyone with an appreciation for southern history.
