Visited Soul Haus last weekend and they were unfortunately out of everything that I wanted to try--there was no cornbread, no collard greens, and no green beans. That said, the service was friendly and fast and the interior was clean and well-lit. I ordered the oxtails but they were a bit plain and unremarkable, covered in brown gravy (not bad) and swimming in plain white rice. I also ordered the mac-and-cheese and potato salad as my sides. The cheesy sauce covering the macaroni was a bit watery, but the potato salad had a strong mustard flavor that paired well with the meats. My husband ordered the crawfish etoufee, with fried catfish and rice dressing. He wasn't super impressed with the catfish but the rice dressing and creamy etoufee was hot and well-seasoned. Overall, I would not personally recommend Soul Haus to anyone as it reminded me of a kid's school lunch. However, if you really like plate dinners or seafood, you may enjoy some of their menu items. Typically when we order at a counter, they call your name or number, and you come up to the front to pick up your order. But... here at Soul Haus, they cheerfully bring your order to you. First time trying the Soul Haus, and was very impressed. Excellent customer service. There's a daily special which is good value and really like the flavors. The.bbq chicken was very tender and the sauce enhanced, the bbq ribs was fall of the bone, would have liked a little smoke or grill char but was still very good, the sides beans and rice nicely done, and the Mac and cheese was creamy, but the star was the dirty rice which comes with the order, this was delicious you can tell care was put into this. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee with white rice and potatoes salad (it had small chunks of potatoes, not a fan of that) and green beans. The green beans and the catfish were the best part of the meal. The Etouffee lacked that true Creole Crawfish Etouffee flavor and color. It was just bland with no flavor whatsoever. I just had the smothered chicken lunch special for the first time and it was great! They provide generous portions and I'll easily be able to make 2 meals out of this. The chicken had really good flavor and was falling off the bone. The rice was cooked perfectly and they had a great balance of rice to gravy. The mac n cheese & green bean sides were average but the corn bread was very tasty. All that for under $15. They also allowed my friend to exchange her seafood (she got boiled shrimp with sides which wasn't good) for another menu option. Now to the food. Gave this place a second chance yesterday. Very disappointed again. When they first opened I tried the Red Beans and Rice. For Louisiana the red beans and rice was trash. Yesterday the cashier recommended the Beef or Shrimp Yakamein. For a $1.50 you can get both. For $14 there the bowl was small and had hardly any food in it. It was filled with beef broth that wasn't good. We shouldn't have to leave any restaurant and have to go somewhere else to grab a bite to eat. Never again!! Grease all at the bottom like they didn't put it on the rack for it to drain before packing it. Please line that at up! Ox tail is my go to.
