Right at a decade since I last ate here I decided to give this place and try and specially since in your ownership. I ended up getting the barbecue chicken plate. Which cost a little over $13. In my opinion definitely not work for $13. Average tasting chicken, and the sweet potato was better than average. The service was decent at best. It may not be another decade before I eat here again. But it won't be anytime soon.

Ordered a couple of plate lunches on a Friday here at work. They have really friendly staff and make sure to accommodate anyone with special requests or substitutions. I would say that the crawfish etoufee is phenomenal. You get a big portion with two sides. If you are looking for an affordable, filling lunch then this is the spot for you!

Decided to come try this place since I was in the area. Once you get into the establishment, you get greeted by these nice people behind the counter, and the environment takes you back to the better days. We had the following: -Boudin - the boudin was flavorful, and had a good kick to it -Boudin Ball - the boudin ball was okay, felt a little too soggy and oily -Crawfish étouffée w/ corn maque choux & potato salad - delicious, but can use a little more seasoning -High School Spaghetti w/smothered cabbage & potato salad - this was the highlight of our trip, this is nostalgia at its finest. Took me back to elementary days, chowing down on the simplest, delicious spaghetti that I knew! Overall, it was a successful visit, we would come back to try their other dishes.

So I found out about this place at the poboy festival. The Rueben was one of the best I've ever had. I've wanted to try out the actual restaurant ever since. This weekend I had the chance and I was not disappointed. The porchetta poboy is fantastic!! My wife had the shrimp poboy and it was amazing! The flavor of the shrimp was great. I love that all of the meals have a home cooked taste!

I went to this establishment this morning after having tuned into multiple Instagram postings over the last couple of weeks. I was excited. In picture, the boudin looked amazing and that is really what I was going for. When I arrived I was greeted by a sign on the door that read "Free Town Boudin". Sounded catchy! I was quickly disappointed when I learned that they were out of boudin and wouldn't be serving any for the rest of the day. How does that even happen? Saturday morning at 11 AM, in the heart of Lafayette, and no boudin? This is what they have been advertising.. is it not? I still remain confused.. Long story short, I settled for a mushy, tangy boudin ball that was left under a heat lamp. It had a funnel cake-like breading, which offered little textural balance (average at best). With regard to the specialty meats.. they were non-existent. Not a cut of meat to be had. No Butcher's counter. No frozen cuts.. nothing. Again.. disappointed and not consistent with the advertisement. I decided to salvage the trip by ordering a cheese burger and onion rings, which were quite tasty. The patty was well seasoned, good burger to bun ratio, and the shredded cabbage on top added a nice touch. In summary, I walked in expecting an old fashioned superette/specialty meats experience, and walked out with a cheese burger and onion rings.. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day?

The porchetta sandwich is one of the best I've ever had. It was moist with portions of cracklins. Simply amazing.

We tried a few different bites, and everything was exactly what you want from a spot like this -- flavorful, fresh, and satisfying every single time. Food: The food is really the main attraction here. Nothing overly fancy or trying too hard, just consistently good food that delivers every time. Everything we tried was solid, and it's the kind of place where you already know you're leaving happy before you even order. Service: Service was smooth with no issues at all. The staff kept things moving, and the experience was easy from start to finish. Ambiance: Billy's has that classic Louisiana stop-through feel to it. Nothing extravagant, but it doesn't need to be. The food speaks for itself. Overall: Not much to rave about besides the food -- and honestly, that's all it needs. Billy's is officially one of my can't-miss stops anytime I'm driving through Lafayette. I'm never passing this place up.

The cracklins had a little bit of fat and meat on them which I wasn't used to. I'm just used to the fried crispy skin. It tasted more like fried/seasoned pork belly. The seasoning is really good though. My favorite boudin was Billy's more than the smoked one but my fiance liked the smoked flavor more. I wish we took pics but we just ate it in the car. The casing was a little tough to bite through so I sliced it and scooped out the insides. Although the Billy's boudin is good, I don't know if it was good enough to drive from Texas for it. I need to search for more places while I'm here.

There's no host stand or clear seating system, so the entrance felt chaotic. We weren't sure what to do until a nice local told us to just grab a table. After sitting down, it took about 5 mins for a waitress to stop by with the menus. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, but the ordering process is confusing. We were told breakfast orders would be taken at the table and lunch needs to be ordered separately at the cafeteria style counter. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. Since we had already paid for the lunch item upfront and still hadn't been able to place breakfast order, we decided to cut our losses and went to another restaurant. Overall, wasted 35 mins and left frustrated and disappointed, definitely won't come back!

The main issue here is the overall service experience and the food quality. The interior is old school but immediately chaos; there is a Luby's style ready serve food line and tables as well for dine in. We didn't know but apparently you just find a table and sit down, we were standing around waiting to be seated for a bit. Apparently you order lunch plates at this hot food line and then order breakfast via your server at the table. This makes no sense. We waited 35 minutes for staff to take our breakfast order and beverages unsuccessfully, so I went up and ordered a lunch plate of smothered pork and just paid up front. The guy working the ready made food line was also pretty rude and didn't want to be there; great! It was definitely below Treebeard's level and was very salty and not very flavorful. The sauce that they poured on the rice was extremely salty as well. Meh food quality and the absolute chaos of the brunch dining experience made the brunch meal very unenjoyable for our group. We left afterwards and went to another restaurant to eat.

I didn't even know that the "Boudin Capital of the World" had this many people. The place was packed, and I visited on an off time on an off day. I guess they don't have any off times or off days. Our wait was quoted at 40 minutes, and it was fairly accurate. They have a full bar to grab a drink and chat with friends while you wait. You can also grab a drink and stand alone in the corner, but that would be creepy as hell. Once seated, I was ready for some food. My kid and I shared some of their firecracker chargrilled oysters, and they were wonderful. Ensure your order has charbroiled oyster,s and you will be happy. The table also had an order of fried onion rings, and they, too, were excellent. My entrée was fried shrimp. When it arrived, I was concerned as the batter looked a little darker than I am used to. The fish plate was cooked to perfection, flaky and flavorful, with sides that actually felt thought-out instead of an afterthought. But the real standout? The firecracker oysters. Unique, bold, and addictive--sweet heat with just the right kick. That's the kind of dish you come back for and tell people about.
