Tip: Cash only Pro-tip: When multiple people recommend the shrimp poboy, get the shrimp poboy. We ordered a full shrimp poboy and a full weekly special, The Cuban. The shrimp poboy was a perfect bread-to-shrimp ratio; the shrimp were hot and crunchy contrasting with the fresh bread. The Cuban was good with big chunks of pork roast and a nice amount of sliced ham, pickles, and the fresh bread. Lucky for me, my dinner companion exchanged half of their shrimp poboy for half of my Cuban poboy. A very good selection is available. Enjoy!

I feel Lafayette is such a nice place with lovely folks. This was our first food stop during our visit. The ladies instantly were polite and really helpful while deciding what to order. We went ahead with the Old Tyme Special and the Shrimp. Personally I would love the Shrimp again. Great crispiness to them. Nothing was over powering. Great with the hot sauce on top. The Old Tyme Special is a no-go for me. It was honestly like slimmy to me. The fries have a great flavor to them. I'd recommend splitting them.

My family stopped here on our way to New Orleans and heard that you had to get the shrimp po boy. Needless to say, it was delicious! Inside is a cozy grocery with seating in the back. You order at the counter and wait. Service was fast and the people were very nice. Shrimp alone was fried and breaded just right. Together with the other items in the po boy it was a good match. Parking is in front or in the lot across the street.

SWAMP. FRIES. crispy fried potato wedges smothered in crawfish queso. I recommend eating it there while it's hot. Yum. The po'boys are also delicious, we had one pastrami and one oyster. Very good and the bread is fabulous. There's way more dining space inside and out than it looks. Worth the stop!

The food was great! Portions are huge! Original steak fries & fresh bread! The place is small so very busy but still a nice spot to grab a sandwich. The setting is chaotic & loud but I think it's suppose to be this way! We had guests from out of state so wanted them to experience this staple of Lafayette! Yes I recommend this place but I advise you to know your order ahead of time

Y'all, I just can't say enough positive things about Olde Tyme! This place has been a staple in my heart since I was little, and every time I go back it just continues to get better. The ambiance, the people, the food - it's all a 10/10. I also LOVE how they have seasonal specials to include any sort of specialty seafood or offering. Don't miss out - HAS to be on the list when you're in Lafayette.

These Po-boys are TOPS!!!! I have not lived in LA for many years, so when I visit I search for delicious po-boys. All the locals I spoke with recommended me to Olde Tyme Grocery. I loved it so much I ate there 2 days in a row, and would have been more had my trip been longer. TOPS! Friendly staff too!

I finally got back to Lafayette to go to Old Tyme for an Old Tyme Special. The greatest Po Boy on earth I don't even get a picture of it - I literally devoured it. That's the post. The best Po Boy in the world. Not enough stars for this place.

With only a few days in town, an Old Tyme Poboy was on our list! Only took a picture of mine because I was too excited to eat the shrimp poboy. Soooooo many shrimp amd fried perfectly and not a super heavy batter. Bread is so soft and is the perfect vessel for this babies. Another in our party got the Meatball sub- holy shit- it was HUGE but he didn't come up for air and said it was the bomb. Another got the roast beef and there was so much neat on it, he needed to take a break before finishing. It's a smallish place with seating now but it was an old grocery store. The ambiance is perfect for the location next to the university! It was the middle of the week and I counted 14 people working it was NUTS! All the orders and they were so nice. Do NOT miss this place!!!

Enjoyed a yummy poboy lunch is one of our favorite spots in Lafayette, LA. Bread was nice soft and crusty, perfect for a poboy. Shrimp were hot. Those fries stay hot forever.

    Dog and Santa friendly

Excellent food and service. Their French bread is fantastic. And they are very dog friendly. Really nice location with plenty of seating in and out.

We were on our way from lake Charles to New Orleans and we were looking for a lunch stop. I found this gem in Lafayette! Apparently they have been serving up Po boys for decades! And it shows. We got 3 full sized Po boys to share amongst 4 people and it was plenty. We got the shrimp, oyster and olde tyme special. I enjoyed the shrimp one the best by far. It was packed to the brim with friend shrimp. My second was the special as that one literally was overflowing with meat. We got them all fully dressed, best way. The sauces totally made the sandwich. When you walk in, it's deceptively large, they have a large dining room in the middle and an even larger courtyard.

We tried a few different bites, and everything was exactly what you want from a spot like this -- flavorful, fresh, and satisfying every single time. Food: The food is really the main attraction here. Nothing overly fancy or trying too hard, just consistently good food that delivers every time. Everything we tried was solid, and it's the kind of place where you already know you're leaving happy before you even order. Service: Service was smooth with no issues at all. The staff kept things moving, and the experience was easy from start to finish. Ambiance: Billy's has that classic Louisiana stop-through feel to it. Nothing extravagant, but it doesn't need to be. The food speaks for itself. Overall: Not much to rave about besides the food -- and honestly, that's all it needs. Billy's is officially one of my can't-miss stops anytime I'm driving through Lafayette. I'm never passing this place up.

The cracklins had a little bit of fat and meat on them which I wasn't used to. I'm just used to the fried crispy skin. It tasted more like fried/seasoned pork belly. The seasoning is really good though. My favorite boudin was Billy's more than the smoked one but my fiance liked the smoked flavor more. I wish we took pics but we just ate it in the car. The casing was a little tough to bite through so I sliced it and scooped out the insides. Although the Billy's boudin is good, I don't know if it was good enough to drive from Texas for it. I need to search for more places while I'm here.

There's no host stand or clear seating system, so the entrance felt chaotic. We weren't sure what to do until a nice local told us to just grab a table. After sitting down, it took about 5 mins for a waitress to stop by with the menus. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, but the ordering process is confusing. We were told breakfast orders would be taken at the table and lunch needs to be ordered separately at the cafeteria style counter. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. Since we had already paid for the lunch item upfront and still hadn't been able to place breakfast order, we decided to cut our losses and went to another restaurant. Overall, wasted 35 mins and left frustrated and disappointed, definitely won't come back!

The main issue here is the overall service experience and the food quality. The interior is old school but immediately chaos; there is a Luby's style ready serve food line and tables as well for dine in. We didn't know but apparently you just find a table and sit down, we were standing around waiting to be seated for a bit. Apparently you order lunch plates at this hot food line and then order breakfast via your server at the table. This makes no sense. We waited 35 minutes for staff to take our breakfast order and beverages unsuccessfully, so I went up and ordered a lunch plate of smothered pork and just paid up front. The guy working the ready made food line was also pretty rude and didn't want to be there; great! It was definitely below Treebeard's level and was very salty and not very flavorful. The sauce that they poured on the rice was extremely salty as well. Meh food quality and the absolute chaos of the brunch dining experience made the brunch meal very unenjoyable for our group. We left afterwards and went to another restaurant to eat.

Our wait was quoted at 40 minutes, and it was fairly accurate. They have a full bar to grab a drink and chat with friends while you wait. You can also grab a drink and stand alone in the corner, but that would be creepy as hell. Once seated, I was ready for some food. My kid and I shared some of their firecracker chargrilled oysters, and they were wonderful. Ensure your order has charbroiled oyster,s and you will be happy. The table also had an order of fried onion rings, and they, too, were excellent. My entrée was fried shrimp. When it arrived, I was concerned as the batter looked a little darker than I am used to. Growing up, my…read moreparents were fond of them, so they've been a part of most vacations, and many of them tend to blend into one another. Vermilionville, however, stood out as one of the best, and is a memory I'll hang onto for a while. The attendants in period garb were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer our questions. The woman with her spinning wheel even gave us a demonstration. She had taught herself to spin whilst working there and explained the excessive amount of hours it took to finish even one sweater. She also made it possible for me to try the bread pudding I'd been eyeing on the restaurant menu; she warned me they were closing in just 15 minutes so we rushed over and put our order in. Now, I'm not sure if their restaurant has its own yelp page so I'll just review it here. That pudding was the most delicious, most perfect bread pudding I've ever had, and I've tried quite a lot from some of the best places in NOLA. The top was crisply caramelized, and the center was a buttery custard infused with vanilla and cinnamon--an aromatic taste sensation. The server brought me two containers to go (an extra as I'd only asked for one!) and I was so excited to try it, I devoured the first one while wandering between the houses. There were some rather beautiful little homes, furnished with accurate historic decor, and I appreciated that we were able to look at things on our own, at our own pace, free from having to follow a guide. We visited on a day it was set to storm, but we were able to see most of the buildings before the sky opened up on us. We foolishly forgot to bring umbrellas of any kind, so we ended up darting between structures, and eventually taking refuge in the old church while the worst of the rain passed. It was atmospheric and memorable. We found some charming animals in a little barn--a donkey and two sheep and we said hello. There were even mushrooms, and among them we found a single chanterelle, so keep an eye out, fellow mushroom hunters! Lastly, you must leave adequate time to check out the gift shop. They have something for everyone, and much of it made by local artisans! I would recommend Vermilionville to anyone with an appreciation for southern history.
