I don't know who Uncle T is, but that dude knows how to make great food that is incredibly popular. Uncle T's is a busy place. I didn't even know that the "Boudin Capital of the World" had this many people. The place was packed, and I visited on an off time on an off day. I guess they don't have any off times or off days. Our wait was quoted at 40 minutes, and it was fairly accurate. They have a full bar to grab a drink and chat with friends while you wait. You can also grab a drink and stand alone in the corner, but that would be creepy as hell. Once seated, I was ready for some food. My kid and I shared some of their firecracker chargrilled oysters, and they were wonderful. Ensure your order has charbroiled oyster,s and you will be happy. The table also had an order of fried onion rings, and they, too, were excellent. My entrée was fried shrimp. When it arrived, I was concerned as the batter looked a little darker than I am used to. After hearing a lot of hype about Uncle T's, we decided to finally give it a try. We ordered the Holly Beach Slammer, which comes with four different styles of oysters. They were okay, not bad but not great. There was a lot of topping and filler, and the oysters themselves were on the smaller side, which was a little disappointing. My wife had the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, and I went with a pound of boiled shrimp. The boiled shrimp were actually pretty good, nice flavor and cooked right, not overdone. For appetizers we had the boudin egg rolls and Catfish pieces. The boudin egg rolls came with a delicious pepper jelly. Stayed in town on our way to New Orleans and stopped by Uncle T's for dinner. It was packed so that was a good sign. We waited about 45 mins for our table around 6:30. This place was extremely busy but we were seated without a wait. The service was polite and effective. Our food came out pretty dang fast. We ordered onion rings for a starter, because I always order the onion rings. It's what I use to help set my expectations for the rest of the meal. Well, just let me say the onions rings were a 10. A big ole pile of fresh fried goodness The shrimp po-boys were really good served on a soft bun with fresh gulf shrimp seasoned just right. We always come here when we visit Lafayette. Yes, there are other restaurants in Lafayette but something about this place and the ambiance is welcoming and always good. Spicy Bloody Mary was om point and garnishes were a welcomes appetizer. The Onion rings and poboy burger were worth the money and enough to bring home. Raw oysters were fresh and went down easy, lol. The chargrilled was what we waited for for 4 years to come back to!!! 9 out of the 1w were perfect but the other 4 were burnt and wayyyy overcooked. They should have not been sent to the table. After telling the waitress, she didn't offer to replace them or get us new ones so 3 were left on the plate. Hard as a rock and the shell was black as coal. I finally decided to try Uncle T's Oyster Bar after hearing so much about it. I've been to nearly every local restaurant in Lafayette and the surrounding areas, but this one had somehow slipped through the cracks--until yesterday, when I was craving some good oysters. When we arrived, there was a 35-minute wait for a table inside. While we waited, we opted for the heated patio, which wasn't too bad and made the wait more tolerable. Once inside, we were seated in Ashley's section near the kitchen. Ashley was a fantastic server--friendly and attentive. She even went out of her way to accommodate my mother-in-law's request for fish fried extra hard, and her effort really stood out! We started with the oyster sampler. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing part of the meal. The oysters were completely overcooked--so blackened that we couldn't enjoy the different toppings. It was clear the sampler had potential, but the execution missed the mark. For my entrée, I decided to step out of the box and ordered the chopped cheese with waffle fries, and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the creative twist of serving it on French bread--it's definitely something I'd come back for. We also tried a bowl of gumbo, which was pretty good overall, though the potato salad on the side could use a bit more seasoning. The rest of my party ordered fried seafood, which was solid--no complaints there. Everything was cooked well and tasted as expected. Overall, the oyster sampler was a letdown, but the rest of the meal, combined with Ashley's excellent service, helped redeem the experience. We checked into our hotel in Scott and told the lovely lady at the front desk that we wanted a shrimp boil. She took the sheet full of recommended places, circled Uncle T's and said we needed to go there. And so we did. We took a Lyft and got there early (maybe around 5-530) and got seated on the patio. The weather was wonderful. Service was fantastic. She answered all of our questions, and we got the best food and drink. I appreciated the time she took to explain the best way to eat crawfish. My daughter was in heaven. I was happy with my po'boy. We got a Lyft back with happy tummies. Inside had a lot of different dining areas. It had a lot of light wood so the place felt very open. There was a second patio area off to the side that had a high top type bar area for people to sit at as well. The best thing was that if you went in and all the way to the back on the left, there was an excellent hand (and face) washing station. Two big thumbs up. read more

Our eighth year coming here. As always, it's a great time. The shrimp in the seafood platter were overdone but there was so much food we wouldn't have eaten it all anyway. Oysters were on point - NOLA had Parmesan and Garlic, Firecracker were topped with bacon and spicy peppers. The muffaletta bread was cheesy and packed with olives and the Spicy Ritas were delicious. There was a parade today near our home, so we decided to take the opportunity to try Uncle T's. Large parking area, and really like the ambiance inside which was live and vibrant. We were quickly able to get a table, and our wonderful server soon followed, we started with the appetizer's which were a dozen oysters that were freshly shucked and the lemon and horseradish went perfectly, the outside could have been cleaned more as it transferred to the inside making a touch gritty, however you got the full flavor of the oysters, the boudin egg rolls was a big hit, well balanced and the pepper jelly put this over the top, it was hot and fresh, and the portion came close to being a meal by itself. The main course was a po boy which had grilled shrimp and roast beef, now this was true perfection and very filling, also the seafood combo, the shrimp fried perfectly along with the fish, and waffle fries. Southern food and Oyster Bar that delivers on the promise oysters. Truly haven't had some of the flavor combos that they serve on grilled oysters, and they were all fantastic. The poboy selection also has some entries that I've never thought about before, but everyone swears that they are amazing as well. Menu is rounded out with some other sandwiches, salads, and wraps if you're looking to balance out some of the fried foods. The only bad thing was the chargrilled oysters. I have eaten them all over, so I expected them to be really good here. They were not. One was burned so bad to the shell that I couldn't even it and about half of them were undercooked or almost raw. I don't mind eating raw oysters, but seriously, I have shucked and grilled my own oysters numerous times - how does this happen at an Oyster bar. I digress. We're always looking for something off the beaten path when traveling between AL and TX and Unc. T's was a great find and we may just have to stop in again on the next trip. We arrived around 1:15 on a Friday afternoon and the place was still busy for lunch, definitely a good sign. We ordered the boudain egg roll because they were unusual and I just had to try them and hubs also got the oyster slammer. The egg rolls were delish and somehow light and crisp being perfectly deep fried yet not greasy at all; they are served with a sweet "sauce" that's basically warmed jalapeño jam. They're good dunked in the sauce but I preferred them doused with a little hot sauce. Hubs and I split a whole fish poboy. Their fries are the waffle variety to which I'm not a huge fan so we got onion rings instead. The poboys were spot on. Our waitress let us know the fish was catfish, but it had very mild and sweet flesh, plump, moist, and cooked to perfect doneness. The bread was the right kind (iykyk when it comes to the right or wrong poboy bread), and the onions rings were thin shoestring cut, lightly crispy, not oily at all and perfectly seasoned. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and on this day the weather was gorgeous and the outdoor dining area was being enjoyed. Indoors there is ample seating and large garage style doors opening the main dining room up adding to the "neighborhood-pub" atmosphere. If I lived in this neighborhood I'd be here every day... such a great local, tucked-away vibe. read more

I had this spot on my radar since it was close to my hotel in Scott. I visited early, and the dining room was mostly empty, but by the time I left, the whole place was packed. I'm not sure if this was on purpose or not, but I was looking for gumbo on the menu, and I did not see any soups period. I tried the half charbroiled oysters and 1/2 shrimp po boy since I wasn't very hungry for dinner. The fried shrimp po-boy was pretty good. I loved the bread since it's much better than what you get in Houston. The waitress didn't ask how I wanted my po-boy dressed, so it just came as is with lettuce tomato and some mayo on one side. The charbroiled oysters were good too, although there was oyster shell in one of the oysters, so it made it difficult to remove the shell fragments once all the toppings and oyster are already in your mouth. Like Rudys and some other bbq places these days, they have a hand sink for washing your hands within the dining room, near the back corner, which is nice. read more
