Spicy taste straight from the swamplands of Lafayette. It is a must stop for us, on our way to Florida each year. The boudin and cracklings are sold by weight and in my opinion, very formidable. Some may even say, around here, "C'est bon!" The inside has a few tables to sit and eat as well as a few picnic tables outside. The bathrooms are clean and make a nice pit stop for our road trip. I was in town for one day and I went to 4 spots trying to find the best boudin. Kartchner's was my favorite. The flavor was perfectly salty and spicy and the boudin balls were perfectly fried and still juicy on the inside. Randomly stopped here one day when we were traveling along I-10 in Louisiana. We live in Houston but had a cooler and ice packs with us so we took a chance and stocked up on some of their stuffed catfish and stuffed chicken breasts. We were able to keep it frozen until we arrived home. So far, everything we brought home that has been consumed has been delicious. Really good flavors in both the fish and chicken. Greta food selection to eat there, on the road, or to bring somewhere. Everything is full of flavor and well portioned. The servers are helpful and friendly and offer suggestions. It is a type of grocery so it's not very sit down friendly aside from a couple of tables. If you're passing through the Scott area, do yourself a sold and get some treats for the road. read more

So coming here I really didn't know what to expect as I was just passing through the area and this is one of the first things that came up when I was searching for breakfast so why not have some balls! Boudin Balls are super yummy now that I know what they are full of fried meaty cheese goodness that are packed full of flavors from the sausage and from the jalapeno cheese as I got two of them one with jalapeño cream cheese which I liked a lot more as it was just sooo good and then the pepper Jack one which was also super delicious but didn't hit me as much as the jalapeno cream cheese one did either way they were both delicious! This is a meat market so they have all kinda freezers with a bunch of random goodies all of which would have been nice to take home had I lived in the area! A must-stop off of I-10 just west of Lafayette. If you have ever traveled this route you will notice several billboards touting cracklings and boudin. We made a quick decision to try one out, and we are glad we did. Katchner's is a standalone building that seems new. It is clean, and serves as a specialty grocery store. It has everything Cajun you could imagine. One wall is a full row of freezers with prepared food. We tried the fried ribs, boudin balls, and a mini crawfish pie. The store is clean, the food is fresh and everything from the fresh made food down to the frozen entrees is delicious! Yes, we have " meat markets" or stores that sell pre cooked and seasoned food in Houston but, there's absolutely no comparison. That's why I make a point to bring my cooler and stock up! We were greeted warmly when entering the store and everyone was extremely helpful. We got the cracklins and they were so good!! Fresh and hot with a great flavor! We also tried the rib bits and they were very tasty as well. The only thing i didn't like was the turkey wing. It didn't have any flavor and was a bit dry. This is a small store, with a good variety of products. Dry good on a few shelves, cold and frozen foods along the back wall. There were several things I would get if I went back. I'm going to start by telling you I've never been here in person. My brother is working in Louisiana for awhile and he has been bringing gumbo, crawfish pies, and deer boudain back home from this place. I told him he had to give me the name of the location so I could review it. Everything is absolutely delicious! Stopped off on the way back from Lafayette. Had the pork cracklin and chicken crackin. Both were very good. Also had the stuffed chicken thighs which were excellent. Bought a stuffed rabbit to but have yet to try it. If you are westbound on I-10 it's a lot easier on and off than eastbound. read more

I turned on 93 to visit a usual Boudin spot and saw a new Building that had sprung up called Kartchner's. I passed it up but made a U-turn. The variety of specialty meats and products was outstanding! The employees were very welcoming and willing to help and make suggestions. I had questions about a few of the cooked foods, they were generous to offer a sample to try before I purchased. I really appreciated the hospitality. The store is very nice inside, well organized, and had very clean restrooms. The chicken cracklings are AMAZING! I also tried theirBoudin and also thought this is as good or better than my usual Boudin spot. Years ago while traveling through I stopped on 93 and tried several Boudin shops along 93 and decided which was Best. So after trying Kartchner's and then leaving and going to my usual spot and purchased cooked Boudin and compared the two, there was a clear new winner! Kartchner's Boudin was more flavorful and had more personality, it made my normal boudin selection taste bland although still good as usual! I stopped by Kertchners again on the way out and purchased more Boudin and Chicken Cracklins (these are sooooo addictive)! I can't wait to have more! The Kertchner's signature seasoning blend is superb, I only wished it came in a larger offering! Kertchner's has outstanding service, hospitality, variety, and hot delicious offerings. I'd definitely suggest trying out this shop! I absolutely love this place. The drive thru is super efficient and the workers are always super nice and polite. My favorite was Billy's for a long time, but now it is kartchners 100%. I like their boudin pepperjack wraps. Along with the crawfish pies. Today I tried the plate lunch for the first time which was chicken fried steak / mash potato w gravy/ green bean casserole. OMG. Best food and service! Great Boudin, cracklings, boudin balls, awesome steaks, chicken, etc.. Haven't had anything bad here! Hard for me to pass this place up. I pass there every day. Great people. Needed 45 hamburger patties for a family gathering, called them and they had them ready and seasoned to cook. All my family and friends were asking where they came from. If you need a quick meal during the work week just stop and pick up a meat, can veggies and some beer. You will be eating before 7:00 pm. I just love stopping here. Hands down the best boudin and specialty meats in the area comes from Kartchner's Specialty Meats. Great food. Great prices. And the best people. They've got everything dialed in. Far above and beyond any of the other specialty meats places in the area. Facilities are clean and organized with a great variety of products to choose from. I always stop and get some when we're in the area, but they also offer shipping in a styrofoam ice chest on dry ice and we've used that a few times.
