I stopped in for a plate lunch meatballs stew cost me $17. I get home to eat my food and they gave me two meatballs that were way undercooked ! For $17 only 2 meatballs a salad that would fit in a child's hand and beans that were just nasty with no taste except pepper. The lady at the counter was rude to me when I asked her are you sure it's 17$ for meatball stew. It's outrageously overpriced. The ambience is awful. The service was awful and it was undercooked food. I do not recommend this place. read more

We have eaten here a Tim's Kitchen several times. The food and service are great. In fact, we hold our monthly luncheons for the DAV at 3 different restaurants and Tim's is top of the list. We meet on the 3rd Friday of the month, and everyone usually orders the lunch specials. We will definitely keep coming here to this restaurant. The staff is so friendly and on their job. I ordered the BBQ pork steak which came with potato salad, rice dressing, baked beans and a large dinner roll. The food was tasty and the portions were a little over sized. Had strawberry cake with a delicious strawberry cream cheese frosting. Everything was tasty and I will be returning. Catfish is served on Friday, I'll be there. The service was as it should be. Wow. The building this restaurant resides in was quickly earning a spot on Lafayette's "cursed business list". In the short time that I've lived in this town, it's been 3 different restaurants. This place seems to be the winner of the three and as long as it keeps up. It'll probably make it. One of the worst places to get plate lunches in Acadiana. What you will get is a tv dinner pretending to be a plate lunch. I thought it was odd that there were no prices on any of their chalk board menus, now I know why. Asked their hostess about the prices and her only response to my question was "you don't eat out a lot, do you?" And she was quite rude about it. Read a lot of good reviews on this place so tried their lunch on Monday with Chicken Fricasse. I was thinking of Chicken Sauce Picante as the entree, but fricasse is in a stew type of gravy over rice. I personally did not like it as it did not have much taste and was rather bland for me. Just moved right down the street and decided to give it a try today (Tuesday). Tim recommended the lasagna. And it was amazing. That would not be my go to at a plate lunch place. First, I was a Ruby's fanatic. Miss Ruby could do no wrong. Her food was exquisite. But this review is for Tims. He learned well. The tradition carrys on with meatball stew and ohhhhh the best gumbo that simmers in Lafayette. I could only manage one visit this trip so that's all we could try. But that was enough. When we moved away from Lafayette, we left both sons and their families here. I always told them I could visit them when we came back to Ruby's to eat. These last five years have been tough. This location has been several restaurants, not sure why they close because it's not a terrible location especially for a lunch restaurant. Tried it out today, arrived at 12:30, and they were already out of one lunch selection. I settled for the chicken fried steak, now I like chicken fried steak. For a frozen chicken fried steak, it wasn't too bad, however the salad which was just lettuce was mostly old and wilted. The creamed potatoes and brown gravy was quite good. read more

First time visit. The wife and I picked up the Sunday bar b que, one rib plate and one pork steak plate. The wife said her pork steak was very good. This place is a local favorite for my wife and I. The Gumbo is the best in town, the chicken fried steak is unbelievable, the baked chicken is juicy and tender and full of flavor, the mashed potatoes (creamed potatoes on the menu) are the best I've ever had, but the real winner is the fresh baked roll they throw in (almost) every meal. I never try the daily specials because their regular items are too good to pass up, but everyone I know who has tried them has loved them. What an AMAZING experience! My husband and I actually lucked out on this Fantastic place. We struck up a conversation in the parking lot with one of the owners and decided to give it a try. We are SO glad we did! The ambiance was great, the staff was phenomenal and the FOOD, oh my Goodness the food was EXCEPTIONAL! We had their Sunday barbecue special, pork steak and a sausage plate with some of the best Gumbo I've had in Louisiana! Also I never get dessert but I was talked into it.
