Came in on a weekend, so I got a baked chicken with mashed potatoes, but I hear their BBQ plate lunches on Sunday's are a must! Check @eatinglafayette on Instagram and Facebook for more Lafayette food things!

Wow. The building this restaurant resides in was quickly earning a spot on Lafayette's "cursed business list". In the short time that I've lived in this town, it's been 3 different restaurants. This place seems to be the winner of the three and as long as it keeps up. It'll probably make it. The gumbo is fantastic, the owner is amazing, the owners son is a gem, and the place is a hometown destination. This is the place to go if you want that "pawpaws gumbo" taste!

I came specifically for the crawfish and the Fish Out of Water appetizer, which I order every single time. That appetizer alone keeps me coming back. There is almost always a wait, so I typically head straight to the bar, settle in, and enjoy a cocktail while my table is being prepared. This visit I tried the Bayou Mermaid. It is sweeter than my usual drink preference, but it was surprisingly very good and well balanced. I believe my server's name was Haley, though I may be mistaken. Either way, she was attentive, pleasant, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. The crawfish were amazing as always, seasoned well and served hot. It is consistently worth the wait. If you are in Lafayette during crawfish season, The Cajun Table should absolutely be on your list.

Our server Sarah seated us and we ordered 15 pounds of crawfish. She also provided recommendations. The interior was unique with lots of pictures of crawfish. Lively music was playing in the background. The crawfish was fresh and juicy, I ate 4 pounds myself. We also ordered the nachos, which came with fried crawfish, jalapeños, and queso. The nachos were delicious and full of flavor. Overall the food and service was great even though the place was busy and slightly understaffed. If I'm ever around this place again, I'm definitely coming back.

First of all, there are a whole bunch of free parking and it was easy to find this restaurant. The atmosphere was low keyed and subtle, not loud and rambunctious. We were seated immediately, even if we were early for our reservation and our very friendly and helpful server, Jaslyn, was awesome! She suggested to start off with a delicious strawberry margarita and it was a home run! Perfectly blended garnished with both a lemon and a lime slice. We ordered the Prejean's seafood platter, which hit all the marks. Catfish filet, oysters, crawfish, alligator, shrimp, hush puppies and fries. Everything was lightly battered and not the least oily. We also had to try the chicken, andouille sausage gumbo and the crab cake vermilion which were so delicious! But, the highlight was our extraordinary server, Jaslyn! The was the epitome of southern hospitality with her sweet, unassuming personality! The next time I'm in Louisiana, I'll be back at Prejean"s!

Our waitress was very friendly, and made a great recommendation of the duck gumbo and Canebrake draft beer - I loved both of them! All of our food was delicious, especially the boudin flatbread and duck gumbo, and the green beans were perhaps the best I've ever eaten - very tender and well seasoned. I can't wait to go back!

Poor Boy's Riverside Inn - Shrimp Dinner

This review is LONG overdue:…read more As first-time guests at Poor Boy's Riverside Inn in Broussard, Louisiana, we were completely captivated by this historic, family-owned gem that's been serving authentic Cajun cuisine for nearly a century. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance of rustic charm and subtle elegance, reminiscent of South Louisiana's river camps. With its warm lighting and lively buzz of happy diners, it's an inviting spot for everything from a casual meal to a special celebration. Our culinary experience was outstanding from start to finish. We began with appetizers of Cajun crab fingers, crispy and bursting with fresh Gulf flavor, and alligator tidbits, perfectly seasoned and wonderfully unique. The entrées were phenomenal: the Redfish Extravaganza, a masterpiece of fresh redfish stuffed with crabmeat and topped with a rich blend of more crab, crawfish, and mushrooms, delivered bold Cajun flavors in every bite. The Crabmeat Imperial was decadently creamy, while the filet with Riverside topping--a tender, perfectly cooked steak crowned with jumbo lump crab and mushrooms--was pure indulgence. Our drinks elevated the experience further: a Richard's tequila martini, crisp and refreshing; a Blue Raspberry martini, vibrant and fun; and a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned smoked with an Italian cherry, adding a sophisticated, smoky depth. Dessert was a highlight, with warm, soul-soothing homemade bread pudding and sweet potato beignets, a creative, sugary delight that left us smiling. Every dish and drink showcased the Hurst family's dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients and authentic Cajun recipes. What made our first visit truly unforgettable was our server, Meagan, who was an absolute superstar. She greeted us with a warm, genuine smile that instantly made us feel welcome. Meagan's knowledge of the menu was impeccable, and her recommendations guided us to perfect choices with enthusiasm and confidence. Even more impressive was her deep understanding of the Hurst family's history and the restaurant's legacy--she shared captivating stories about Poor Boy's nearly 100-year journey, adding a special layer of connection to our meal. Her attentiveness was flawless, ensuring our drinks were refilled and our needs met with a friendliness that made us feel like longtime regulars. Meagan's passion and care transformed our dining experience into something truly extraordinary. Poor Boy's Riverside Inn is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Cajun cuisine in a warm, historic setting. The Hurst family's legacy shines through in every bite and sip, and with servers like Meagan delivering exceptional service and storytelling, it's easy to see why this place is a Louisiana treasure. As first-time guests, we're already eager to return. Five stars for an incredible meal, perfectly crafted drinks, and an unforgettable experience, thanks to Meagan's outstanding hospitality!

We tried a few different bites, and everything was exactly what you want from a spot like this -- flavorful, fresh, and satisfying every single time. Food: The food is really the main attraction here. Nothing overly fancy or trying too hard, just consistently good food that delivers every time. Everything we tried was solid, and it's the kind of place where you already know you're leaving happy before you even order. Service: Service was smooth with no issues at all. The staff kept things moving, and the experience was easy from start to finish. Ambiance: Billy's has that classic Louisiana stop-through feel to it. Nothing extravagant, but it doesn't need to be. The food speaks for itself. Overall: Not much to rave about besides the food -- and honestly, that's all it needs. The cracklins had a little bit of fat and meat on them which I wasn't used to. I'm just used to the fried crispy skin. It tasted more like fried/seasoned pork belly. The seasoning is really good though. My favorite boudin was Billy's more than the smoked one but my fiance liked the smoked flavor more. I wish we took pics but we just ate it in the car. The casing was a little tough to bite through so I sliced it and scooped out the insides. Although the Billy's boudin is good, I don't know if it was good enough to drive from Texas for it. I need to search for more places while I'm here.

There's no host stand or clear seating system, so the entrance felt chaotic. We weren't sure what to do until a nice local told us to just grab a table. After sitting down, it took about 5 mins for a waitress to stop by with the menus. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, but the ordering process is confusing. We were told breakfast orders would be taken at the table and lunch needs to be ordered separately at the cafeteria style counter. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. Since we had already paid for the lunch item upfront and still hadn't been able to place breakfast order, we decided to cut our losses and went to another restaurant. Overall, wasted 35 mins and left frustrated and disappointed, definitely won't come back!

The main issue here is the overall service experience and the food quality. The interior is old school but immediately chaos; there is a Luby's style ready serve food line and tables as well for dine in. We didn't know but apparently you just find a table and sit down, we were standing around waiting to be seated for a bit. Apparently you order lunch plates at this hot food line and then order breakfast via your server at the table. This makes no sense. We waited 35 minutes for staff to take our breakfast order and beverages unsuccessfully, so I went up and ordered a lunch plate of smothered pork and just paid up front. The guy working the ready made food line was also pretty rude and didn't want to be there; great! It was definitely below Treebeard's level and was very salty and not very flavorful. The sauce that they poured on the rice was extremely salty as well. Meh food quality and the absolute chaos of the brunch dining experience made the brunch meal very unenjoyable for our group. We left afterwards and went to another restaurant to eat.
