Regular vehicles park to the left when you pull off the highway and big rigs park to the right. Plenty of space to walk about if you needed to and plenty of space to take a seat. Inside it was well maintained. Facilities were clean and in order. I putzed around outside for a while and walked the grounds. They were mowing grass the day I was here so you kind of had to keep moving to not be in their way. Things to note, aside from table/picnic area, there is a pet area available. But the pet areas don't seem to be maintained as well as the rest of the area, disposal bags were missing even though there was a place for them. Police station is on premise.

I mean for example the rest area has been reviewed several times on Yelp but the town itself has never been reviewed on Yelp until now. It has less than 1500 people living in it and it gets pretty cold for a lot of the year which is why I personally would never live here. But if you're into the cold and you're into small-town life and you might like Preble. And you have excellent access to the highway I'll give you that. No literally, come here, I'll give it to you.

It was midday on a Friday. I was totally shocked to see a LONG line for the ladies rest room. The kind of line you'd possibility see at a large sporting event or concert, not at a thruway rest area. Once inside, I saw there were 5 stalls and 3 sinks. I'd estimate the old building had closer to 20 stalls. Move on to the food. There's a Starbucks and a Shake Shake. The line here was longer than the restroom line. Then I noticed there was seating for less than 20 people. I can tell you there were numerous people who were just as unhappy about the situation as me. So, NYS spent millions on these 'improvements'. Makes no sense. 2023-73

This happened right in front of the Starbucks coffee shop sometimes between noon and 2PM. Few tourists came to help, but the girls from Starbucks were particularly nice and offered us free hot chocolate! We were a bit shaken by the accident and a hot drink served with a smile made a difference. Please extend our thanks to the Starbucks team of Sunday afternoon, in addition to our thanks offered in person.

There is a lot at this welcome center that you probably won't see at other places. I got excited…read morewhen I saw the I heart NY sign and race car, and the nice little playground for children. I personally just didn't have a great experience at this stop. The inside looks lovely but it had an unpleasant odor that is hard to describe. it's possible my stop was affected by the other people who were there, so take this review with a grain of salt, but the vibes were just off. It looked clean, but felt very dirty. I don't know how else to explain it. All of the people I encountered were rude; not just one person, but multiple people. I wanted to get a photo of the sign before we headed out and there were two different families just letting their kids play and climb on the sign while myself and another person were trying to snap a photo. I had to wait a good 8-10 minutes for them to leave to snap one photo of the sign without random children on it. I have nothing against kids playing and waited patiently, but there was a literal playground for children right across from the sign. It's more just that people didn't seem to be very kind or considerate here. Again, this is a fine stop if you need to get off the road and there are things to see here, I just purse didn't personally feel this welcome center was very welcoming.

These are the random locations and stops that an individual will not be charged to stop at. They are organized and well thought out . Are you a truck or a car? They will ship the car one way and trucks another way. Depending on where you are on the thruway dictates how large the inside of the store is . This is happens to be a larger one . The rest rooms are inside of here and are open all hours of the day. During regular hours the fast food places are open. Inside of these rest stops is a smaller type of convenience store for soda, coffee, water, candy or whatever you're seeking . They offer little trinkets for you to purchase too. What's not to love ? Let's get out of the car, find some coffee. Freshen up and get the car some fuel and get back on the road again. Our adventure awaits.

Like other NYSDOT Region 9 rest areas (found along this stretch of NYS 17/I84 as well as I88), this location consists of a small bungalow-style bathroom facility featuring American Standard toilets and urinals and modern high-powered Xlerator hand dryers set back a short distance from the highway with easy on/off access and plenty of parking. If you're expecting the full service travel plaza experience of Thruway rest areas with their Starbucks and massage chairs and E-Claw machines you might be disappointed. However, while this facility is limited in amenities it is more than ample for what you need it for.
