We really enjoyed our stay at this grand old hotel smack dab in the middle of Syracuse. Because of it's location they do not offer parking, but there are many lots all around the area. We found one that only charged us ten bucks for the night. We were in town for a concert at the Landmark, which is literally across the street. After the concert ended, we were back in our hotel room in about five minutes. There are also tons of great bars and restaurants all within a few blocks. Our room was clean and spacious enough for two people, and the bathroom was roomy and clean. read more

Gorgeous, restored, modern, wonderful! We had the best experience at this hotel. We got a king suite with a separate kitchen and sitting area, as we were not leaving our room much due to surgery. The room was spotless, the bed was so comfortable and there were a lot of pillows. You could have parked a Buick in the bathroom! We ended up being done with our medical appointments two day early. They were unable To refund our room (which they were not obligated to do anyway) but willingly gave us one free nights stay voucher. How wonderful is that! So accommodating and nice. The two staff ladies at the desk were so kind to us. This hotel has a "wall of fame" where you can see a few of the stars who have stayed there. It's in the heart of a city circle area where there are some shops and restaurants to walk to. Again, we were only able to leave for a bit (for our sanity) but it's location was perfect for a walk. BUGS!! My daughters and I stayed at this hotel last night and I woke up with a bunch of bug bites on my arm and elsewhere on my body - see photo. I reported it to the hotel and they told me they would have the room inspected that same day. They then called me later in the day and told me that their service claims that they found no bedbugs. The cleaning staff needs to be trained on how to clean a hotel room. It was like the place had not been dusted in years. Air filter was absolutely filthy...and their response is that "we are only required to change them once a year". Streaks, residue and dust all over pretty much every surface of suite. Stains on throw pillows. If you have allergies I would highly recommend you do NOT stay here. You will get sick! The evening concierge lady was awesome, the morning one (maybe the manager) is a "bare minimum" and argumentative person. She did not seem to really care about the state of my room and was quite dismissive and argumentative. I have a two week stay here...wish I would have booked an Airbnb or another hotel. read more

Had a great hotel experience with my college alumni friends. The Accommodations are clean and very neat. Plenty of towels and coffee in the room with a microwave things like that. The manager Holly was very accommodating allowed us to gather in the lobby for some with our friends and gave us some recommendations for restaurants in the area. To say I'm highly disappointed in my stay would be an understatement. From checking in on Friday May 28 the receptionist was not friendly at all, she acted as if I was bothering her. I had to go in and ask about the overflow lot as she never explained we needed a key and was rude explaining it. I went back in asking about a Wii system and she got an attitude stating that she wasn't even sure it had all the pieces and then asked for 45 minutes. I was fine with that and was pleasant stating my son was going to bed anyways. She said it would be dropped off in the morning. It was not. I went downstairs and again requested it. I checked out on Monday without ever receiving the Wii. For being a kitchen suite, it had 3 dishes, 3 forks and a cutting board. No sharp knives, no cooking utensils. I mean isn't that the point to have a kitchen suite to cook your own food? The sheets had stains on them and the tub took legit hours to drain. It was sold out according to front desk staff so we dealt with it. Saturday morning my 11 month old son was found chewing on an old pizza crust on the floor. Like it's covid time I thought cleanliness would be much better. The fridge leaked ruining leftovers. I highly doubt I would stay here again. Between the customer service and the conditions of the room, It was not worth the $500 I spent on the room for the weekend. read more

Let me just say a big, giant YUCK! After a very long day at work was looking forward to checking in here and having a peaceful evening. I arrived and waited on line for 10 minutes. The two women at the counter looked super unpleasant and didn't even say hello, big no-no in the hospitality industry. Then a large group of teens (about 30 kids) blasted into the lobby screaching and carrying on. I continued to wait AND be ignored and finally said Hell No. I deserve better.... Called Amex Travel who plans my company travel and said 'Help, I need somebody...Help, give me anybody'. A Beatles reference for Milennials..... Needless to say I bolted quickly and safely to Aloft on Inner Harbor and life is good for the next 3 nights. How hard is it truly to simply greet someone or at least attempt to not look constipated when someone is paying $130+ per night for a hotel?? Honestly, this hotel was great! I found myself in Syracuse a few weeks ago because I won a trip there from the NY Times Travel Show. Yep..you heard me right, I won a trip to SYRACUSE. LOL. This city wasn't exactly on my bucket list but I figured what the hell. My free trip included a stay at the Jefferson Clinton. Great hotel! Great location! Actually, this hotel was the best part of the trip. Devon at the front desk was super professional, helpful and very pleasant. The rooms aren't super modern, but they are very clean, comfortable and a good size. Sadly, the room (executive suite) was bigger than my apt back in NYC =( The breakfast was amazing. Chef Billie made our omelets every morning. They were awesome...better than I've had most places at brunch. She was also super friendly and funny. I hope I never find myself in Syracuse again (I'm just way too used to big city action), but if I do...I will most definitely stay at the Jefferson Clinton. This is the definition of a 'Dive' hotel. It is a last resort bed when there's a SU football game that weekend, there's not another hotel room in town, and you don't have the time to find a youth hostel or even a well lighted park bench. This place is terrible. You won't check in immediately upon arrival - you will wait for the desk person to finish a phone conversation about the correct pronunciation of the word "charcuterie" (oh, it's a tongue tickling, strange word - at least five minutes of fun). Once checked in you'll learn that you are parking your car on the street tonight and no housekeeping will be taking place during any part of your two-night, $985 stay. Approach the door to your room and find the carpet covered in plaster dust and wood shavings (looks like someone wanted in without a key). Upon entering, take in the view - looking through SHREDDED curtains. Yes, the curtains are torn, top to bottom - just like management planned? Plastic drinking cups on the bathroom sink without any sanitary covering, breakfast that is a near perfect recreation of what you might desperately put together at a gas station convenience store, fittings, fixtures and furniture that should have been replaced 20 years ago - all come together to define a class-A dump. As someone who's traveled quite a bit recently and, in turn, is pretty tired of staying in hotels...well, the Jefferson Clinton Hotel ended up as a delightful treat that was perfectly fit for my needs. While I have a general idea of the area (I knew this place was near the MOST, at least), I have to admit that I'm not especially familiar with Syracuse. I did need a hotel for a one-night stay though and booked this hotel on Expedia after comparing reviews and prices. Ended up in room #801 with a lovely view of the Armory building right outside my windows. Highlights: - Complimentary valet service (which is awesome, considering parking in this area can be *such* a pain) - Delightful and super helpful staff - 5pm check-in times ALSO mean later check-out time of 2pm (love this, especially since I usually get to hotels later in the day) - Great location near plenty of restaurants, cafes, pubs, or whatever else - Very clean rooms (including a rubber ducky waiting in the shower, which was adorable, ad an in-room air purifier) and comfortable furniture. - Free Wi-Fi - Random bonus of DVD player in the room (and the TV is very good quality as well), and yes... you can get DVDs and popcorn in the lobby area - Complimentary breakfast in the A.M. with made-to-order omelette station Honestly, the folks staffing this place go out of their way to make sure anyone staying there is comfortable. Severely disappointed in this hotel, it had such great reviews. Upon check in both the manager and the clerk were so distracted while helping check visitors in. Once checked in we went to our room and once getting out of the elevator the entire floor reeked of weed. I was very clearly told on check in that the hotel was smoke free. I tried several times to call down to the front desk, no one ever answered. When we left to go to somewhere I let the desk clerk know, he apologized and contacted his manager. He let me know the manager already knew who it was. This begs the question, why were these guests permitted to stay? The management had covered up the smell by the time we returned. The next day the hall was filled with the odor again. The hotel has kitchenettes and we had brought some takeout back with us. 2 plates and 2 spoons, maybe a knife, we're all that were provided. Had to go to the lobby for plastic ware. The bed and the toiletries were nice, some of the furniture was broken. The bedside outlets didn't work either. Pretty disappointed. No reason to stay here. It is very old and breaking down. Toilet ran all night. We had to close the bathroom door so we wouldn't hear the noise of it. Parking is not on site you have to drive a couple hundred yards and use a fob and then return the fob to the front desk very inconvenient. The card readers also didn't work on either entrance to get into the hotel. Our carpet was also dam so we had no idea what was going on there. Elevators are deathly slow. read more

Very rude service by the evening staff. I have never in my life been treated so poorly at a hotel. Neighboring streets filled with beggars who are aggressive. I spent this past Saturday night here with some friends, celebrating a birthday. When I walked into my room, I noticed that the bed had not been changed. It looked like it had been slept in, the pillows and sheets were not even in the right spot. I am completely a non-confrontational person, but with COVID, I decided to call down to guest services to see if I could get new sheets. I spoke to a woman named Holly who immediately dismissed my concerns. I described to her that the bed looked like it was not changed from the previous guest, and she told me that the housekeeping supervisor checks every room before someone checks in, so it is impossible for my room to not be clean, and that sometimes the housekeepers do not tuck in/fold the sheets, so my bed looked the way that it did because of that. (My friends were staying in a room on a different floor, and I saw what their bed looked like...it was neatly made, unlike mine). Holly was rude, and did not listen to my concerns, even when I told her I was in no way trying to cause any issues. I even asked if I could just get new pillow cases, and I would deal with the rest of the unchanged bed...she said that I would have to come get the pillow cases myself from the lobby because she had a lobby full of people and, before I could respond to her, she hung up on me. FYI, I worked as a housekeeper for two summers, I know what a changed/clean bed should look like, and my housekeeping supervisor would NEVER okay a bed/room that looked like that. Accidents happen, and I am no way blaming the housekeeping staff. But the way I was treated by Holly was really disappointing. She knew we were in Syracuse to celebrate a 21st birthday, and I honestly think the reason why my concerns were dismissed was because we were young, (but in no way were we disrespectful/rude/causing problems), I was a guest and I still deserved to be treated with respect. Downtown hotel. Close to a venue I was attending. I wanted to like the place but found certain aspects not as expected. Key card system doesn't work right. Constant failure at the entrances and your room. Manager has an evil side if you bring up the key system. Perturbed to rekey the cards. She was Rude. Don't wear white socks in your room to walk on the floor. They will get dirty. Clorox smell terrible in the halls and room. Yet room still has a dirty floor. No mention that the forth floor under construction. Load noises coming from that floor. I guess it could be a good place to stay. But the little things spoil the stay. Parking garage should be condemned but that's. Syracuse issue. Overhead nets to catch the crumbling concrete. Urban decay. I travel for a living. Stay at hotels all over the world. I give this a two. Years ago, was a fine hotel. It is now in decline. Be careful when booking online - you may well get diverted to a third party booking agent without notice and be on the hook for a non-cancellable room, despite booking a reservation that was clearly described as cancellable. Then when you call the property, the front desk will, with some smug glee, tell you to call the third party that you booked with (even though you didn't), and of course that will go nowhere. I used to be a regular at this hotel; now I'm done. Too bad, it had a good run after its renovation 15 years ago, now it's just a deteriorating, no-hospitality crime scene. read more

This hotel has the potential to be really nice, but lacks so much attention. The room was dusty and had quite a few stains on the furniture. I've seen multiple light bulbs burnt out from the lobby to a couple fixtures in my room. The windows need to be updated desperately from the copious amounts of street noise. It sounded like the fast and the furious was happening outside all night long. The amenities were nice, but it's hard to look past uncleanliness. read more

This hotel is in a great location in Armory Square within walking distance to many great local businesses. They also have their own parking lot which is a huge plus. If all the spots are taken, I believe they will valet your car for free! The best part is the DVD players in most rooms and the handful of DVDs that they will let you borrow in the lobby for free. All included with some free popcorn that you can pop! Super nice! I guess they even have a Wii you can ask to setup in your room, which may be super useful if you have kids and want them to just be quiet ;). Although the hotel is a nice revamped space, I definitely wouldn't consider it "modern." It's a boutique for sure. The lobby needs a little work and could be a lot more welcoming. I missed the complimentary breakfast when I was here, but it looked really nice. I was a bit turned off that they charged for water, even in the suite there is no complimentary bottled water. The couches could have used a little updating. I guess I was just expecting a bit more plush. All in all, it's a nice place to stay if you get a good rate. If you're an AAA member, be sure to check that before you book so you get a discount! The bed was super comfortable which is always important. read more

There's a reason it's listed as one of the Historic Hotels of America. Classy in its own day, it's really awesome now. There are movies at the front desk for you to borrow (no charge), there's breakfast in the morning (included), free valet parking, an incredible nightlife district within 50 steps (believe me, we tested it out the night before and the night of a dear friend's wedding), and charming rooms that are modern while still maintaining traditional decor. I came to find out later that I happened to have one of the ten rooms with a "triple shower." For those of you who've never experienced this ineffable pleasure, imagine three separate showerheads that you can control direction and water flow of, with the main one being a large "raintree" directly over your head. I'd probably shower three times a day if I had one of these in my home! Next time in the Syracuse area I'll be staying here, and taking advantage of seeing some of the historical sights I didn't have a chance to in my few days there this time. read more

This was one of the coolest historical hotels I have stayed in traveling Ny. The staff was so sweet especially the woman at the front desk who checked me in. My room had such a cool few of historic Syracuse and awesome amenities. There was a kitchen and work station and sitting area and even a fireplace. The bed was so soft and welcoming and I loved the little decal on the closet that said "You're never fully dressed without a smile." The jacuzzi tub was so soothing and I loved the modern wallpaper in the bathroom. In the morning the breakfast was delicious with a chef making us our own omelet creations and the staff was friendly and jumped at the chance to grab my car and make my experience easy and pleasurable. Can't wait to stay here again next time I am performing in the area. read more

I had not stayed here in several years. This used to be such a nice, old hotel. It has really gone down hill. Housekeeping was terrible. The toilet was gross and clearly not cleaned. The drapery was falling down. Because I was already delayed due to a non working elevator, I did not have the time before an appointment to ask to move rooms. They should be embarrassed by how they have allowed this hotel to deteriorate. read more

I found this place on the recommendation of a fellow traveler, and I am thankful they thought highly enough of it to recommend it to me. The staff was incredibly warm and helpful, the location was perfect for my work as well as everything else. Centrally located and surrounded by everything I needed. The room was more than I was hoping for, with more space than I could use, a full kitchen, living room, squeaky clean bathroom , a big comfortable bed and a really amazing view on a snowy night. I couldn't have asked for more, on the road for 3 weeks and this stay was the highlight for me. I highly recommend this beautiful building for its location , comfort and most of all the staff. Booked through Hotel Tonight a few weeks out for a college visit with my daughter. HT doesn't let you choose what type of room, but we figured if we couldn't get two beds (my wife and I and our 17-year-old prospect SU student), we could have them bring up a cot. Turns out, the room HT booked us in was one king and not big enough for a cot. But the super-nice Stephanie at the front desk found us a suite despite the fact that they were sold out for the weekend b/c of a spa conference of some kind (really). Room was really nice, location is great, breakfast is very good and the late checkout (2 p.m.) really can't be beat. To top it off, our daughter left her jacket in the room, they called us a few hours later while we were driving home and said they would send us her coat! Footnote: Looks like she's going to Syracuse, so I have a feeling we will be at the JC again. Great place! read more

My fiancé and I stayed here while in town for a show at the amphitheater. Beginning with cheek in, there were 2 ladies at the front desk, both wearing t shirts, and only one of which were checking guests in. There were several people in line so we waited close to 10 minutes, in a lobby that reeked of marijuana. The lobby seemed as though it had not been cleaned in quite some time... the front door was covered in finger prints and smudges. Not a great first impression. When we finally got to check in, the lady was very friendly but I will say she kept wiping her nose with her hands and then taking my credit card and ID with the same hands. She did it serval times and then handed us our room keys. Was super grossed out by that. The room itself was okay but didn't feel clean at all. Pillows felt like cardboard. Hair was on the sink. Bed was super small (a full). Sink also did not drain at all. I would not recommend this hotel. A lot of homeless people lingering around as well. Website was very misleading! read more

As was the case with our stay at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel. From the very courteous, to informative, and fun. The next great experience was actually walking into our room. Fireplace, separate little room, comfortable bed, kitchenette, fridge, etc. Quite often there's something that makes noises through the night, whether it be the fridge or AC or folks in the hall. Not the case here. Solid walls and the rooms were quiet as a mouse. Everything was spotless as well. Little items like complimentary fruit at the front desk and the rubber duck in the tub make you feel like the hotel cares about their guests. Parking the hotel is perfect as there's a lot next to the building and a hotel employee walks the area throughout the night. Very safe area to boot. Excellent view from our room and close to the highway but not too close to hear the traffic. The hotel is located right in the heart of the city near restaurants and clubs which is also a plus. Lastly the breakfast was a great ending to our stay. The chef personally makes your order of eggs, including a wide selection of fruit, sausages, bagels, cereal. Overall a truly pleasurable stay, not our first to the Jefferson Clinton, and definitely not our last. read more

Hour key fobs had to be replaced 4 times when I finally complained the person at reception got extremely rude telling us that my cell phones was demagnetizing it . Then she proceeded to tell me that I was being rude. Didn't have it near my cell phone. Breakfast was pre-bagged, small parking lot have to pay for parking in one of the parking garages if there is no room in the hotel parking lot.Room was ok not enough light in the bathroom. Came into town for a show at the fairgrounds and had a great stay here. The staff is super friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast staff were also really nice. Breakfast is good here for a hotel breakfast. We would definitely stay here again next time we're back in Syracuse. read more

The thermostat was broken. the temperature remained at 78° when I put it down to 50°. I woke up sweating I checked out at 4:30 am. the receptionist was sleeping before she would answer any questions she had to put eyedrops in her eyes and then when I explained to her that I had valet parking and gave her my ticket she rolled her eyes and flagged down the nearest employee to retrieve my car and when I said thank you he just said yeah. A really classy hotel in downtown Syracuse, with the best hotel breakfast ever. Their hotel rooms have been modernized nicely, with super comfy beds and en suite kitchenettes (it is an old, ornate building). Their elevator could use an upgrade, though! What really stands out is the excellent customer service by their staff! They do not hesitate to make your stay comfortable, and will bring everything you need, from two-sided dress tape to a wii console, to your room at your request. I stay here for work every so often and it's absolutely the best hotel. Now, granted, I haven't been to many other hotels in the Syracuse area, but why bother really? This place is as good as it gets! The level of customer service alone cannot be beat. The rooms are clean, the complementary breakfast each morning is top notch and the hotel itself has loads of character. My only negative is the slooooow as molasses elevator. That's an expensive fix so I don't expect them to be getting a new one anytime soon, just be prepared to wait--or take the stairs. While this hotel is not cheap for Syracuse it was very impressive. This historical hotel is beyond gorgeous and well appointed. From the impeccable vintage marble lobby to the rooms. We shared the smaller offering, the standard double and our room was gorgeous, clean and the bathroom was off the charts nice!! The small touches were noticeable to me. Rain shower head spa shower with immaculate tile complete with a mini rubber ducky. Extra toilet paper labeled "Back up plan", cute. Keurig coffee, flat panel TV deluxe bedding and towels. Man. The only thing I could find to complain about was the too high toilet and the small bed for $184 a night. It was a double bed and we are two men 200 pounds each! Needless to say I am still a fan. I also wanted to mention the very nice service. Each employee we interacted with was beyond pleasant. They even provided us with necessities as we did not plan this stay and had nothing with us, not even a tooth brush. Jefferson Clinton delivers. I am happy to report I have found THE place to stay in Syracuse. One word about the location: perfect. read more

I rarely have the need to travel to Syracuse. But when I do, I will stay at the Jefferson Clinton. I like this hotel. It is a boutique hotel, with history and charm on its side. Now, parts of Syracuse have seen better days; I mean, we're talking downright scary. But fear not - the Jefferson Clinton, thankfully, is located in a relatively trendy area which, undoubtably, is witnessing better days.. As many of the other reviews correctly note, this hotel prides itself with a friendly and accomodating staff, immaculate and modern rooms, and little incidental touches (such as the yellow rubber duck in the bathroom - yes, I'm still a child at heart!) which go a long way to making its guests feel at home. I was upgraded to a suite-style room which afforded plenty of room to strech out and relax. My room was immaculate, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Complimentary breakfast available in the mornings. Note there is no restaurant on-site, but would recommend Lemongrass which is only a few steps away. There is on-site parking, though limited, but an auxilary parking lot is available for guests to use directly accross from the hotel. Valet service is available, but as the lot is so close, I chose to self-park. The only issue I encountered during my stay had to to with the fact that there is only one elevator to service the hotel, and it can be painfully slow in the morning when people are leaving, etc. - I'm talking about a 10 minute wait - literally. Otherwise, I cannot find fault with anything. From the staff, to the service, to the size and comfort of the room - this hotel is a gem. read more

Stayed two nights here and everything was great. The front desk staff was super helpful, the rooms were just what we needed (two full beds and a kitchen). It's right downtown with the Museum of Science and Technology across the street, Funk n Waffles down the street, The Fitz speakeasy around the corner, and all sorts of other great shops and restaurants nearby.
