    Open late

Another usual drive stop on the route home. This time was around 10:00 PM. The Dunkin' Donuts was open and also, the Travel Mart. Most of the eateries in the rest stops close at 9:00 pm. If you travel late you are out of luck. Most of the time I buy a coffee and egg white flat bread from DD. This time I just wanted something to much at so I went to the Travel Mart and got me a Potato Chips bag. They had a cart with some local goods to show and sell? Bathrooms are pretty clean. Most times I see an attendant tidying it up. Gas service center is part of this rest stop. Nice to have them on the Thruway .

    Taste if NY booth.

Use the bathroom, then keep it moving....not worth the stop unless your bladder is busting at the seams.

    NYS Thruway

The New York State Thruway is officially the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway. It is a system of…read morehighways spanning 569.83 miles within the State of New York. It is operated by the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA). The system is comprised of six highways: the New York-Ripley mainline, the Berkshire Connector, the Garden State Parkway Connector, the New England Thruway (I-95), the Niagara Thruway (I-190), and the Cross-Westchester Expressway (I-287). That's the most detail for the thruway you will get from me. I've got fond memories of the days when I traveled this highway. I don't drive anymore and everything is high technology tolls and phone applications these days. I'm sure I'd be lost. I would enjoy being a passenger and enjoying the rest stops and sites along this stretch of highway. I'm recommending you do the same if you're going that direction! I've posted the map.

Traffic for the most part can be busy, especially approaching I-84 and southward on. The conditions on the road are decent and well-paved for the most part. There have been some touch-ups over the years, specifically, the electric tolling in Harriman, NY, which keeps traffic flowing nicely. In the past, that was a big issue. Also, some of the service areas are closed being worked on - be prepered to do some extra traveling. Hoping things will improve even more in the years coming. Overall, a fun road to travel on, but do take caution with the traffic approaching NYC.

I've worked with Wise Home Energy for years, and they are excellent. I'm the kind of person who…read moreusually does things myself. When the job is too difficult, I call Ryan at Wise. Over the years, I've welcomed them in to my home to: - Install a new hot water heater. - Install an Aprilaire furnace humidifie - Airseal my home - Reinsulate my whole attic - Repair a leaking gas line - Fixed a rusting line connected to the hot water heater they installed over 5 years after the install... for free. These guys do a great job every time, always honor their quotes, arrive on time, and complete the work on schedule. They're also very polite, and while doing the job they just completed for me, arrived in masks and followed COVID protocols. I've had Ryan, Mike, Tom, and Jamie all perform work and/or inspections for me, and I have recommended them to friends and neighbors. Would do so again any time.

After 20 years, we've decided to sell our house and downsize. One thing requested by the new buyer,…read morewas that we have the furnace cleaned and serviced. We looked at several companies that provide these services and decided to try Wise Home Energy. The team of Mike and Tom arrived on time and ready for work. The van they work out of was fully equipped for just about any issue that might arise. They went right to work on our furnace and let me stand by and watch. These gents really know their business. They made a complete inspection and gave our furnace a thorough cleaning. Connections and contacts were checked for operation, as was the blower and heat exchanger. After checking the thermostat for operation, they also made sure there were no gas leaks. I admit that I wasn't as conscientious as I might have been, by having the furnace serviced yearly. However, with the price as reasonable as Wise charges, I would definitely have it serviced yearly. Stop for a moment and consider how much you count on your furnace. Mike and Tom were both friendly and outgoing. I appreciated the fact that they let me "look over their shoulders". They explained things as they went along and were very thorough in their inspection and cleaning. I am very pleased with the service that Wise Home Energy provided. If I were staying in this house, I would definitely call on Wise for my heating and air conditioning service. Give them a call, you surely won't be sorry.
