I have contacted the business owner about these issues and was told that these things "can be like pulling teeth." and it has been. That's why I'm leaving this here. From the start, I was looking to install one egress window in our basement. I asked on Nextdoor for egress window install help and got recommendations for Tony Zilka. I looked at online reviews, mostly positive, and checked out their website which stated they've been, "installing egress windows for over 15 years. Our expertise is unmatched and we can guarantee that you will be satisfied with the results." And "It will take 1 to 2 days to dig, cut, haul, frame, and install your window. We always clean up after ourselves and never leave trash behind" They must have dropped the ball on my account. Notes: - Tony Zilka, the company owner, did not show up to our initial appointment. I had scheduled with Tony when it was convenient with my family (pregnant wife and two year old). He never showed up. An hour later I called and rescheduled as he somehow never had me booked. - The next meeting, he was late again, I emphasized importance of light in the basement and protecting my two year old from falling in the egress. Tony told me install date in four weeks, and that it would take two days to complete. We agreed on a plan and I payed 50% down promptly. - A week prior of the agreed start date, I asked if we were still on schedule. It took Tony a week to respond after emails/calls and he said later he'd check into it. - An ADDITIONAL three weeks later and after multiple delayed attempts of communication with Tony to get work started, work began. - Tony's workers arrived a Monday afternoon. They dug a couple hours and said they'd be back, the day after tomorrow, Wednesday morning. - To our surprise, without contact, the next day, TUESDAY morning, My family and I woke up to a shovel scraping against the side of the house. - On Thursday, one worker got shocked when he sawed through a live electrical cable running to an existing outlet below the window they where working on. Another ripped multiple lines of paint off the ceiling when removing a plastic barrier. - Garbage/debris was left in our yard for four days after install. This forced us to cancel holiday dinner plans and it made our yard unsafe and unusable for our guests and child. (See photos) - The egress cover installed admitted less light to the basement than the original window, which was 1/4 the size. (See photos) - Poured concrete in the egress didn't extend to the bottom of well and finish was subpar. (See photos) As you can see, I had a very difficult experience dealing with Tony Zilka especially while considering my family situation. It's unacceptable that a two-day job can turn into nine days. Poor communication, inconsistent quality and unsafe work all made this very unpleasant. Conclusions - Good online reviews and recommendations aren't a sure thing - Don't hire someone who can't keep appointments, or is hard to get ahold of (In my situation, difficult to back out with 50% down) - Set reasonable timelines in a contract - Record/Document communications/work - Withhold full payment until your satisfied I hope this helps.

We called the number on our old spring and was automatically connected to Metro Overhead Door. We left a message and not to long afterwards a man called us back with a repair quote and repair time frame of Friday between 11-1. We were quoted $280+tax to repair both springs, which after doing some research online, seemed reasonable. On Tuesday afternoon I received a call from June stating they had an opening from 1-3 that day. I was super excited! I was so ready to park my car back in the dry, warm garage. I immediately accepted the opening and thanked her profusely for thinking of us. Corey arrived by 2pm and had the repair done by 3pm. He even replaced one of our cables ($10) as he noticed part of it was frayed. Corey was professional, courteous and friendly. They also accept visa for payment. If you're a homeowner of a 1929 fixer upper with a plethora of problems, you know it's ridiculously hard to find contractors that 1) show up on time, 2) do the work they say they're gonna do, 3) actually finish the job, 4) do the job well... like, REALLY well, and 5) be nice and a total delight to work with. JKC does ALL that AND MORE. Every step of our project was handled with extreme care, thoroughness, and craftsmanship. Every eve, every overhang, every gutter, every bit of paint and caulk was handled with precision and a level of detail that I thought could never be a reality when working with a contractor. Even when ripping off our old siding, they discovered the company that installed our windows and doors did a shoddy job, and they fixed THEIR work! When unforeseen issues came up (because of course, our house is from 1929!) they were able to quickly address and repair those items with grace and ease. We felt like we were in such great hands with experts that we could trust, that they knew what they were doing, and total masters of their craft. Bonus? They didn't leave messes, and cleaned up after themselves to the point you didn't even know they were there. Every worker on site was SO nice, informative, professional, and people you'd want to grab a beer with. In fact, we have a mentally unstable neighbor who confronted the crew, and they handled him easily and respectfully without escalating his mental health challenges. In short, we've hired them twice now, and when our home's roof needs to be replaced, there's no one else I'll be calling, or will be gathering quotes from. There's no point. They're the best, hands down, and we get compliments ALL the time from neighbors and people walking by asking about who did our home's exterior. My only complaint is that they don't do home interior design/remodeling because now I'll have to locate and find another team that won't compare to the standard that JKC has set. We're now SO spoiled. Seriously, don't bother gathering anymore quotes or researching companies that never call you back or answer your emails. I recommend not wasting your time and money with them. I hired them to put a layer of shingles on 3 sheds, about 1000 sq. ft. in total. Here are the lowlights: 1. They had to borrow tools. 2. They don't have their own transportation. I had to give one of their guys a ride home one night. 3. They made simple mistakes and had very little understanding of how shingles work. For example, they failed to stagger the tab lines on the shingles such that the underlying tar paper was exposed. They left about 20 exposed nail heads which would have definitely developed into leaks. Additionally, when they cut shingles on the edges, they cut them in a jagged way that looked terrible. I had to spend about 6 hours of my own time fixing all of their mistakes. 4. The worst of it was when I showed them everything they had done wrong, rather than acknowledging and trying to fix it, they just argued that this issues I was pointing out weren't really issues. Please see pics. These guys have no clue what they are doing. I would not trust them with any project. I wish I had taken more pictures of the mistakes. They even took apart some pre-hung doors from the factory that weren't properly square. They answered every question we had, and walked us through the installation process each day. This is a mixed review since there is good and bad to mention. I contracted with this company to…read morereplace my siding and double decks. This wasn't the lowest priced bid, yet it also wasn't the outrageously high quotes I received from other companies. I was very excited to finally get this work done. At the same time I was working with TGR, I was also contracted with a roofing company, a painter, and a gate company. In the end, the only company I had problems with was TGR Construction Co. There are things I wasn't prepared for in this process, such as my pictures falling off the walls during the siding tear off or the cracks in the ceiling and walls created with the tear off, of which they tried to tell me all these NEW cracks (I live in this home) are due to normal settling of my home and said all houses settle with time and this is normal and not due to the siding job. I know it's not a coincidence these new and sudden 'settling' cracks appeared with the siding work. They broke through the ceiling upstairs and they did own up to this, maybe because it's hard to justify 'normal' settling with sudden stucco all over the floor. There were structural issues that arose during the project, at nobody's fault, that ended up costing me $11K more than my contract. Then I was also charged $4900 more to remove windows and have them reset. Btw, three other companies included the window removal and reset in their contract. It was considered standard for other companies. After the siding and decks were done, I was left with HVAC refrigerant lines on the ground and blocking doors and windows for my tenants, wires dangling under the deck staircase, the Radon remediation system wasn't reattached correctly and sparked scaring a HVAC technician and me, a deck rail was reset too low, refrigerant line covers were accidentally thrown out, and my daughter and I each did double sweeps for nails left behind when work was done. It took almost two months of asking for them to resolve these unresolved issues before some things were finally done. Jan 20th, three months after the crew left, I finally had the last unresolved issue handled. As a consumer, when I contract with a company, I expect to have the job done right without unnecessary stress. That did not happen here. On the POSITIVE, the crew is hardworking and really nice guys. The siding and double decks look great now. My home underwent a metamorphosis and is now beautiful and I receive compliments. I had crappy, rotting decks replaced with sturdy decks. This is the only reason I give a 2 rating instead of lower. All the mishaps, repair delays, and stood up appointments made this extremely frustrating and stressful. Could I have achieved my desired results without the frustration? I'm sure I could have with a different company. Buyer beware! Educate yourself on all steps that need to be in your contract. Make sure the removal of your windows for proper flashing is in the contract. I know A LOT of people and all my other contractors received more jobs through my recommendations. I know currently four people who are looking for a recommendation for siding, yet I can't recommend TGR Construction.
