I have been coming to this wonderful place for over 20 years and still love everything I have purchased. As a designer I am always in search of very particular items to give a pop of color, add the patina of an aged finish or a striking silouette or modern form. This is the only place I know that never fails - there is a bounty of beautiful vessels from all around the world in sumptuous textures and colors with designs that range from old world to modern. Even when I go in determined to only purchase a few items, I end up spending hours wandering through and finding new treasures. The staff is always very helpful, and a big shout out to Evan who helped me today and is so knowledgeable about plants and especially to Carlos for his amazing knowledge and good taste, who went out of his way to help me find exactly what I needed. read more

They have a great selection of pots in all sizes, colors, and styles! Both indoor and outdoor poss are available. Pricing is mid range. Their pricing is slight lower than my local nursery. I've seen pots at HomeGoods for about half the price here, but they're not available in all stores or at all times. So I would say if you want to wait to find a deal, this is not the place for you, but if you're in need of a pot you'll find a great one here. We purchased a 14-inch diameter glazed indoor pot for $100. They also had a clearance section with mostly smaller 2-6-inch pots. read more

My husband and I bought 4 pots today from Pottery and Beyond. The sales associate's name was Ping. He was very helpful and even pointed out that one of the pots was not the same design, even though the colors matched. He offered to bring another pot from their Stockton warehouse which will be available by mid week. We found their price to be very competitive as we were looking online. We will come back next time we need more pots. read more

I always find what I want at Pottery and beyond. Great selection, very helpful staff.

The best plants pots in the world, so many different shapes. sizes, and colors. Gorgeous fountains and garden decor as well. I am very happy with the customer service as well, helping me measure and match, drilling holes in the bottom of pots for ones that didn't come that way, and offering great suggestions. Thank you! read more

I'm looking for a ceramic fountain and was referred to Pottery and Beyond. What a huge variety of pottery!!! From small to huge containers of beautiful ceramics. There were two sections of vessels for fountains and I was able to find one that I liked. Service is a bit interesting. Not the best customer service but it served my needs. Pottery and Beyond has been my go-to source since I moved to Oakland 30 years ago. Until today, I would've given them a five-star review. They have an amazing selection and the prices are fairly reasonable and a little negotiable. The service has been great until today, hence my lower rating. I went to exchange some pots that were the wrong size and was greeted by an employee named Ping. When I asked a question about their exchange policy, Ping handled it by pointing at a sign and telling me three times in rapid succession to read their policy. It seemed very dictatorial and unfriendly, as if I were stupid or argumentative, rather than a customer with a simple question. I left feeling disrespected and angry. I'll still shop at Pottery and Beyond, but I'll certainly avoid dealing with Ping. read more

Came here looking for some rectangular pots for my succulents plants. I've driven by Pottery & Beyond, which is located across from Target, many times but never checked it out. It's a large open air business with many varieties of pots in various shapes, sizes and colors. The have fountains and statues as well. Their inventory is well organized by shape and sizes. In the back are inventory that were marked down at 30-50% off. I saw the rectangular pots and in the color was looking for, but they were not the size I wanted. A worker said they didn't have anything smaller. A good place to check out if you need pots for your plants. They have some parking spaces as you enter, but there are plenty of street parking out front. read more

Very cool store. You've all probably driven past this area a dozen times but unless you have need for pottery that you can hide an entire family in, you probably have never stumbled into this place. The prices for the size of containers you get here are really a very good deal ... but still a few hundred dollars (not counting what you'd have to pay for shipping / delivery) ... many of these puppies aren't going to fit into the trunk of your Prius. It was fun to walk around and look at all the water features and think - where would I put this giant thing if I could get it home? I've been thinking of setting up a rain barrel collection as a more eco way to water my garden - so this might have some options ... but that's a project for another day (and a bigger truck). They didn't have a great variety of small / medium / large pottery that you can pick up and go with. read more

After the longest time, my wife and I finally stopped over to see what's good. So with that said, the good is that it has a huge inventory. There are pots as far as the eye could see. Okay it's not that expansive but it goes go one for quite a bit. I bet you've seen it as you drive by, tucked away by the wrapping road. This place is fun to explore. The part that turns me off though is the service. I felt like we were being watched the whole time. There was always an associate floating around and at times just standing there looking at us. I think they mean well and just wanted to help but it made us feel rushed. We found a good amount of pots to give our plants happy new homes but I'm hesitant to come back. I don't really feel comfortable, being followed around. read more

Super friendly service. Huge selection - nice variety. Fun to walk around. Easy free parking.

Carlos was wonderful, knowledgeable, and he didn't force us to buy anything we didn't need, he even suggested something more affordable and practical. We will be back soon to get bigger pots for all of our monstera plants. Thank you for be kind and extremely helpful to us and keeping in mind our budget. We love our new pot for Madusa, to help her grow nice and strong after being shocked after a move. We even left buying a hand painted pumpkin from Mexico, wonderful way to support the small villages surviving from painting these breath taking pieces. Absolutely gorgeous read more

This place just gets better over time. They have recently increased their inventory of beautiful and VERY affordable plants. The pot selection remains large and varied. More fountains, and placed where they're easier to see. I get the comments about the hovering employee. I think he wants to be helpful. (It's not like we're looking to tuck a pot into our jacket.). Carlos is an employee who does not hover and as I mentioned in my previous review is knowledgeable about plants and really a pleasure to work with. I love this place and am thrilled many more plants have been added to their inventory. read more

This place has a great variety of pots: design, color (teal, chartreuse, maroon, purple, etc), sizes (small and large ones depending on your space), shape (rectangle, round, cylinder) and well organized. As to not repeat anything, I agree with John B completely and this place is worth visiting. And to those who think the staff is watching them, they are not. It is a cultural thing where they are trying to be attentive and help you with prices, or to move or carry a pot for you. They were great! If you pay cash, i believe they offer a slight discount! read more

1. Poor customer service - if a customer asks you a question about pricing dont respond "the pricing is on the sticker". Even worse walk away and not assist the customer in obtaining what they need. Most of the products there had no identification of price. Additionally the black and gray unclear photo of pricing WAS UNCLEAR. There were products in the field not on the picture. 2. The selection is overrated and looks outdated in my opinion. The products dont seem well maintained. 3. Poor judgement / Assumptions / Prejudices - Dont assume because someone is YOUNG AND BLACK PRICES cant be afforded. They were actively helping my Caucasian brethren who were spending less - I was ready to spend triple of what they were spending. 4. Finally - Products are overpriced for what they selling. Will not be returning to this establishment. Thank you. read more

I'm a landscaper and have shopped here for years. I haven't written a review before, and only went to YELP to see recent pictures of new styles, but the negative reviews really upset me. The salesman "follow you" to be helpful. It's my experience that many Asian cultures are somewhat more rushed than some folks may be used to, but that does not mean they are rude. The prices are fine / good compared to other local vendors. Planters are expensive, yes but not just there. Their basalt and granite pieces may be better priced elsewhere because those places have a huge stock and constant new pieces arriving; again, P & B prices are ok. Its true, they don't speak a lot of English but i've always done FINE. They have been helpful, including special returns or exchanges etc. The Bay Area has diverse culture. You want the culture, than accept the culture...... If you want a West Elm experience, go there or Sloat Garden and pay much more. And YES, Pottery and Beyond has just that. Their stock is indeed Asian, not Mexican or European. They have tons of shapes, styles, colors etc and prices are very reasonable for what you're getting. read more

Great selection and value. I came for medium sized pots and came out with 3 at a price point I would've expected to pay for 1 at a smaller nursery. read more

Huge selection of pottery and other pieces perfect for garden or indoor decoration. Could spend a whole afternoon here!!! The staff is attentive and will make sure they are available to help answer questions. I noticed some reviews speak to this negatively, but I don't believe any of the staff follow the customers around because they don't trust the customers - they do so because this is their way of offering a great service. read more

I should've read the reviews citing the poor customer service before wasting my time coming here. I'm ready to spend about $400-500 on my project, so I'm motivated. But the cranky-ass worker there was the rudest human i have ever tried to give money to. I walked out without telling him to go fuck himself (a personal win), but I definitely won't spend my money here. Yes, they have pots. So do lots of other places. I read several reviewers mention that racial bias was what they perceived in the rude service here. I believe it. Another reviewer defended the shitty attitude as "Asian culture" in this establishment. Maybe I'm missing the charm of this type of sales technique, but my takeaway is that assholery knows no boundaries here. read more

I have been on a search for a fountain for our landscape project and was thrilled when I first walked on the property. This place has a great selection but I am going to allow them to keep it for many more people to see. The prices here are absurd! I'm going to make this very easy for people to see how ridiculous they are. After walking through Pottery and Beyonds yard I was reasonably sure I could do much better. So I headed out to American soil and Stone and nearly cut the tab in half. read more

This place is a little hard to find, but they have great selection and incredible markdowns. I got 4 large(3' tall, 18" diameter) lovely pots - 2 for the entrance and two for the deck, as well as two medium ones and one smaller all for under $300 including tax. They have a lot of pots here. When you go in, the guy tends to stick close to you. He asked that I not pick up any pots, but I think instead of looking at it as annoying or view the customer as thieves, I figure they do it so people don't accidentally drop the heavy pots so they break, or drop it on their toes, or hurt themselves which could potential lead to who's at fault. Anyway, they have anything and everything and in many colors and sizes. I did order a few pots which will be delivered to me for an additional fee. It's better than be carrying it. They will deliver it, but they are not going to set it in the spot of your choice, in your garden. read more

They have a five star selection but the reviews about poor customer service are sadly spot on. Plus prices are pretty high compared places like the Ace garden center. We spent about an hour wandering and putting pots together to make our choices. No one ever approached us to help or offer a hand with the heavier stuff, but someone was watching us the whole time. Lurking. When we finally asked for a hand he asked us how many we were going to buy before he would help us. read more

Came here on a Sunday looking for a ceramic pot for the yard. Easy parking inside their gate, or right outside. Big selection, especially for water features. Prices seemed about right for this kind of product. We wandered around looking for something particular. I noticed that there was someone that was sort of hanging around in the general area where we were looking. Since we moved around their yard, I noticed that someone was always just hanging around us. It didn't take me too long to figure out they must work at Pottery & Beyond. Were they watching us to make sure we didn't shoplift giant heavy ceramic pots? Or just being available if we had any questions? Would have been better if they had just introduced themselves and invited us to ask them for help. read more

This place made me so mad. I slogged my way across Emeryville and arrived 10 minutes before their advertised closing time. I drive by this place all the time. First attempt - we were 5 mins past close at 4 pm and the gate was closed. Ok, no problem. Second attempt - looked at the hours, said 6 pm close. We got there at 3:50 pm. A man came running towards us holding his arms up in an X sign and shouted "no no no!" and slammed the gate shut on us. I will not be giving them my business which is a shame as I was ready to outfit my entire house and balcony with pottery. They missed out on hundreds of dollars. My advice if you dare to go is call ahead and make sure they're open despite what their hours are posted on their entry sign and google. read more

I have been shopping here for a number of years. They have a great selection of quality pots. Yes, I do feel the staff is observant, they need to be. Many shoppers are careless when looking at something that can be damaged easily. No one wants to purchase a damaged item. Don't expect people to stay past closing to accommodate you. Working outdoors is exhausting. Show respect read more

I'm not a garden or pottery expert, but here are a few survival tips on shopping at Pottery and Beyond. Tip #1: Just pretend for a moment that you're not in Emeryville. You're somewhere in Asia. Oh, let's just pretend we're in Thailand since there are a lot of pottery places there. Tip #2: Since you're now shopping in Asia, forget about shopping etiquette as we know it. Since the owners are Asian (don't know exactly where they're from), be prepared to engage in a culturally different shopping experience. Tip #3: Not getting a "hello" right away doesn't mean you're being ignored. There is a bit of a language and cultural barrier after all. Tip #4: In order to avoid that Gollum-stalking-Harry-Potter-feel, just remember that's what they do in Asia. I don't think it means that they think you're going to run off with a 500-pound pot without paying. It's just a cultural thing that we're not used to and it's often mistaken for bad customer service. It's not just you, really. Tip #5: You might actually be glad for not pulling out your pepper spray because that stalking behavior might actually come in handy when you do have a question, and you don't have to walk all the way back to the front to flag someone down. Tip #6: Definitely check for cracks and chips since everything is fairly weathered from being housed outside. Tip #7: Bargain! You might actually put a smile on the owner's face and make him feel at home. read more

THE WORST customer service in any retail establishment that I have literally ever experienced. First of all, surly and unfriendly service. We came in at 5:20 and let them know we planned to buy a bunch of pots. They were not very helpful and followed us around like we were criminals. At 5:30 they informed us that they closed at 6. At 5:40 they started to ask us to hurry up. Three separate people came over before 5:45 to tell us to hurry up because they closed at 6. We were extremely irritated at that point and told them that we didn't take appreciate being rushed. Then they asked us if we were done. We told them we were NOT done and we working to finalize our selections. They were basically shaking their head and wagging their fingers at us. We went in to pay and when they insulted us one last time we asked for the owners name and they refused to give it to us. We decided they do not deserve our money and walked out. Never again. read more
