One of my favorite stores to browse and shop. But be prepared to walk. The store is huge! In addition to having a restaurant they have can almost anything for the home including plants, indoor/outdoor furniture, lighting, bedding, rugs, bathroom fixtures, kitchenware, and more. It was disappointing to see there were no staff checking customers out. It was all self-checkout. I hope that's not the direction of the future.

I've been shopping here for years, so this review is long overdue. The Emeryville Ikea is large, with a parking structure, and a restaurant. I believe there is also a kids dropoff area where kids can play while you shop, but I've never used it nor know much about it. LAYOUT: For anyone unfamiliar with Ikea, it's mostly self service. There are arrows on the floor that guide you through the entire showroom so that you'll see every section. Each item is clearly tagged with the price and where it is located in the warehouse. Once you've written down all the items you want, go downstairs to the warehouse and find the items in the Aisle/Row indicated on the item tag. This is usually quite organized and easy to find. FURNITURE: Most furniture items require some assembly. I find the instructions very easy to understand. Their furniture isn't the highest quality, but quite decent. Excellent for starter apartments and college dorms. Their designs are usually minimal, which I prefer. MISCELLANEOUS: Besides furniture, they have a good selection of plants, bedding, lights, mirrors, kitchen utensils, dishes, rugs, etc. I enjoy browsing because I usually find some unique gadget and I didn't know I needed. Their prices are very reasonable, and you get good value for your money. FOOD: In addition to their restaurant on the 2nd floor (see separate review), there's a little food area right near the checkout. You can pick up Swedish cookies, candies, and even their frozen meatballs. RETURNS: Returns are handled on the bottom level. You have to take a number and wait, which I prefer over standing in a line. I've never had any hassle with returns. I find the Emeryville location easy to access, has good parking, and generally well organized. Although it is self-service, there are associates around to answer your questions. Weekends can be busy, so come on a weekday if you can.

You can never go wrong with a trip to IKEA. I like to come here for the cake, Swedish meatballs, and browsing the cool furniture and interior design. Sometimes I like to enjoy the soft serve as well! There is always something new at Ikea and sometimes I try to find the viral items that I see on TikTok/Instagram. I'm more familiar with the Palo Alto location but I like this one more since the location is near Target, Daiso, Trader Joes, and the West Elm Mall.

We recently decided to refresh the vibe and look of our office and turned to IKEA's showroom floor for inspiration. IKEA offers furniture that fits a wide range of aesthetics, and I can confidently say they have something for nearly every style. I understand that walking around the showroom can feel overwhelming with endless displays and styles, but I personally enjoy exploring everything and taking the time to narrow down the look I'm aiming for. It's a great place to gather ideas and see how different pieces can come together in a space.

I came to browse to see items. I love coming here to get ideas on how to decorate my home. Prices are reasonable. Service is fine. Many selection of items. I would come back again and again even to just browse.

The IKEA store in Emeryville, California, opened in April 2000, just a few years after I moved to San Francisco. It was the first IKEA location in Northern California and quickly became popular for its affordable furniture and modern home goods. It felt like a gift from the heavens to the single guy I was at the time. I soon became a regular and upgraded some of the essentials I needed for my apartment. The store is located near the Bay Bridge, making it accessible to San Francisco and East Bay customers. I don't visit the store as often as I used to, but I still enjoy walking the floor and checking out what they have to offer. The employees are all very helpful and will make sure to assist you when needed. Having been around for a quarter of a century now, the store doesn't exude that fresh and new feeling anymore, but it's still a well-organized place with reasonably priced household items. I haven't eaten at their restaurant in many years but can vouch for their frozen yogurt! It's still as good as it was and costs only $2.00 and 150 calories!

My wife is a regular loyal customer. Ikea is a Swedish-Dutch multinational conglomerate based in the Netherlands that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances, decoration, home accessories, and various other goods and home services. Quality/Quantity - Think affordable college kid vibes. But more importantly, think well designed tiny home vibe. Lastly, think reasonably priced, gift giving furniture that I can actually deliver and assemble myself. My wife bought so much stuff for our daughter that I did not bother to ask (or look)... I'm just glad it all fits in the truck, lol. Atmosphere - Huge furniture warehouse. Easy to get lost and spend hours here. And more and more hours if you are my wife. Can you add a bar to your cafe? Open 7 days a week. From 10am to 8pm or 9pm. Plenty of private parking, both indoor and outdoor. Service - Self service. Price - Affordable and great, good, fair return policies. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1943 and your 479+ locations. I would like to see a location in Reno. :) What, I did not know you operated a franchise system?!?!

My new extendable table in time for Christmas. Wildly popular winter sale.
    Stefan T.

Stand back!! Watch out!! It gets really big!! I was so excited to show it off. Show off my new Vangsta expandable dining room table that is. I grab two legs and with one swift motion I'm ready to pull out the extension leaf. I just impressed a few of the ladies - 'wow that gets big' - everybody so impressed that the extension leaf fit neatly inside the table. It really is great design and even better it was part of their half off winter sale. I live in a tiny Victorian. Its very charming but all the rooms are rather small and its hard to find anything that fits - and my best bet has always been Ikea. I try not to go too overboard as I don't want it to look like Ikea threw up in my house - but its getting bad. Curtains, tables, place mats, my beloved discontinued blue fabric Solsta twin sleeper couch - even the napkins at Christmas dinner - all Ikea. You can probably tell I'm obsessed with that ratty old twin couch - I don't know why - and tell you the truth it should go - plus its not 100% I think either Piggy or Paco spritzed or sprayed it. That's never coming out. Its no joke - this table goes from tiny 4 seater to what feels like double the size at 8 people fit snug - but comfortably. The real saga comes from me not being able to grab some kitchen chairs when company comes over. Because of my tiny kitchen I opted for a counter height table there so it would double as more counter space in a pinch. The other problem is I didn't want 8 total dining room chairs - or some hodge podge pu pu platter of random chairs from who knows where. The hero of the day were the two Dalholden benches I also found at the winter sale. After my table shrinks down I could get them out of there and one to a bedroom and one to the living room by the bay window. I could use them elsewhere like I couldn't more dining room chairs. I had played with every idea to make things work - even having a bar height table in the dining room but I didn't like that idea too much as it seemed less formal. I had just replaced the bar stools in the kitchen as Mr Moose got to them - so everything was up in the air at a moment in time. I really struggle with picking out furniture - its just not a passion of mine - cats and dogs or cars and plants are all things that have always taken priority. Ikea makes it easy though - prices are low enough its not much of a commitment. The winter sale goes through the new year. And I've supplied you with plenty of informations - probably even more than you needed to know. So, if your in need of something in your house just take a look. The stuff sells out quick though so check inventory online.

This is my go to furniture store in the area. It's ikea, so it has everything, but I also love the frequency of how often they change the furniture up. The staff is friendly whenever I have a question or need help finding/ordering things, and the seasonal items are cute AF. This chocolate assembly Easter bunny is adorable and well priced.

Misleading website inventory - it's in the store but sorry you can't actually buy it.
    Pips L.

I've been waiting forever for a specific item to come back in stock and finally got the email that it's available at the Emeryville location. Before I head out, I double-check the website where it clearly says 'Pick up: Available' and 'In-store: In Stock. 20 available.' Great. I make the drive, burn gas, and pay the bridge toll (roundtrip) - only to be told that the item isn't actually available for sale. Are you kidding me?!! I am literally trying to give you money to buy something! Apparently, it's 'physically in the building,' but sitting high up on a warehouse shelf where no one can get to it except for the 'night crew.' The associate basically said, yeah, it's here, but not for sale, you can't buy it right now, I'll email the night crew, and essentially told me that I need to actually call the store ahead and ask for a physical stock check to ensure the item I want is really, really available - that was the solution!? Are you serious? In 2025, I have to call and beg someone to walk over and look at a shelf in person because IKEA's system and website is completely unreliable and misleading? Why even bother having online inventory? So folks, don't rely on the website or email notifications and you better call and see if the item you want can actually be purchased when you go to the store! Terrible customer service, useless website, frustrating experience, and a complete waste of time and money. Absolutely ridiculous. You've lost a longtime customer.

Swedish Meatballs and Pulled Pork Sandwich
    Miranda D.

I love being able to stop for a bite to eat after walking through the IKEA maze, it's one of the easiest pastimes lol. Had the lovely opportunity of trying their Swedish Meatballs for the first time and it lives up to the hype! They are beef and pork meatballs that are seasoned surprisingly well even though they look dry (don't let the looks of it scare you). They also have veggie meatballs for those who prefer to not eat meat! On the retail side of things, IKEA makes the process of looking for specific items very easy to navigate. They have kiosks that allow you to look up items and will inform you where in the store you can locate them, such as self-service aisle number or by department. Lines can get long but go by fairly quickly. There is a huge parking lot so don't worry about facing parking issues.

$6 breakfast special with free coffee (for ikea family members, which is free to sign up)
    Ernest M.

This is my go-to IKEA, and I still live around here. It's dangerously close--dangerous because I come in with a short shopping list and somehow end up with way more in my basket than I planned. Every. Single. Time. We've picked up so many things here over the years: PAX wardrobes, benches, storage racks, plants, cookware, couch cushions--you name it, we've probably bought it. They take my money, and yet I keep coming back. Maybe I have a problem. I especially love their plates and cups--great value and very similar to Corelle. They're scratch-resistant, durable, and what's great is that if I break one, they usually still carry it so I can easily replace it. Super convenient. This place really has a little of everything, and it's well organized, clean, and the staff are always friendly. Lines aren't bad unless it's the weekend, and there's plenty of parking. For a big-box store, it's in a relatively good and accessible area of Emeryville. Also, don't sleep on the food court! The $5.99 breakfast special is a steal. In the evenings, they have more variety, and if you time it right, they offer a TooGoodToGo app special before closing--a ton of food for just $6. Pro tip! Highly recommend this IKEA. Just be warned: you might walk in for a lightbulb and leave with a full living room setup.

    Molly R.

IKEA is such a great place to find furniture at a reasonable price. It's a full experience. You could spend a couple hours here walking through everything. I love the set up rooms so you can see how things would work in an actual room. We got a lot of ideas for our new place and found tons of inexpensive tools for our kitchen and bathroom. Staff was wonderful when we asked questions.

Is there air conditioning in this store? I don't want to shop in a hot store 🙃

    Yes! I was just there.

    Is the parking lot safe?

I thought it was pretty safe. They have a structure and a regular lot.

Can I bring my dog in Ikea?

No, you are not allowed to bring your dog unless they are a service animal

What are the hours for the kitchen (upstairs and downstairs)6/09/2022?

Restaurant 10am-9pm as listed on their website. Downstairs was almost soft serve when we got there so I'm not sure if they have specific hours or not I'm certain that they are the same as the store

I heard that IKEA does afternoon tea, do they still do it?

Is the food court open for eating?

Yes, I was there on 4/9/22 and it was open

    Is the cafe open?

    Yes, it is.

    Is the restaurant open?

Yes. So is the downstairs cafe near the exit.

Does anyone know the restock schedule for the store?

Is IKEA open on Labor Day?

Yes. Ikea is open every holiday except Christmas and Thanksgiving. Ikea usually closes early (5 or 6pm) easter, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year Eve

Is IKEA Emeryville open? I'm reading in-store shopping is not open. What can one shop for? I need plant and planting supplies.

We were there weekend before last and did the full shopping experience. No food service, though.

The entrance line was crazy long today. Monday around 12:00 PM. When is the best time to shop in-store to avoid standing in long lines? Thank you!

They temporarily open at 10am. We went yesterday (Sunday) at 11am as posted on their website as the opening time and we waited 10-15 min. We left around 1230 and it looked like a Disneyland line.… Read more

    Open for in store shopping?

Yes. But the restaurant is closed. You can order food at the bistro for take out only

Is this location taking returns? I ordered some things online and have to return. I don't want to make the trek to Emeryville if it's not open to taking returns. Does anyone know? Thank you!

Yes. But It's slow and arduous. They updated their policy (online) and it's more lax with a bigger return window so you don't have to rush it back. That being said, if you come on the weekend expect a maze like line that winds endlessly.

What are their hours for at risk customers? It seems that the hours on their website is different than what the actual store is saying.

    9-10am every Tuesday

Are they open for in store? Coz I don't trust their delivery 🙄. Thank you!

Yes open for in-store shopping. You can get delivery with TaskRabbit starting at $29 as an alternative to their other delivery service provider. Online shopping and pick up is available too

Is there open for pick up?

    Yes

Online order pick up is not an option for the Emeryville location, so Are they allowing in store shopping here?

According to their website, they are temporarily closed for in store shopping as of March 18th but you can still shop online.… Read more

What day of the week are plants restocked?

Is there still a children's section? If so what are all the rules or how does that work?

It has been a while but ikeas have various children's areas so they aren't all the same. You check them in with ID and are given a time to get them. I think it is around two hours. There is are height limits so no babies and no 16year olds:) They… Read more

We visited several cabinet stores and most places only had MDF cabinets, but we wanted solid wood so that it would last longer. However, we didn't need fully custom cabinets. MDF cabinets are much cheaper around $5K for our project, but we ended up spending about $25K on ours, which were made in America. Kevin was able to lay out all the cabinets for us and discussed functionality. We're very happy with our lazy Susan corner cabinets, and having built in trash and microwave cabinets. He also helped us update the design after the demo too. Kevin's design was really helpful and we even used them for submitting our permit. I think a designer would have charged at least $5K, but I had a clear idea of what look and materials I wanted so and I was glad to commit the savings to better materials. 4 stars instead of 5 stars, because I think the management is very inflexible. The space is small, less than 120 sq. feet in our mid-1920's era house, and yet there is an amazing amount of counter and storage space, and the workflow between range, fridge, coffee station and sink is natural and makes sense. Everything is light and airy looking and the space looks modern yet retains the feel of early 20th century construction. Tile, counter, cabinets, floor and paint are complimentary, and soothing. There's even a range hood for handling cooking exhaust. We could not be happier with the outcome of our project, and we realize that engaging Aimee Toy Inouye at Paragon Kitchens and Bath was the number one reason for the success of our remodeling project. Rewind 4 months. My wife and I decided our 90s-era old kitchen had to go. Massive dark granite counters/backsplash was cracking, Ikea cabinets were crumbling, lighting was dim and we could barely lay out a cutting board for meal prep. We knew enough subcontractors that we thought we could handle the project ourselves, but how were we going to best change the space? We investigated kitchen design firms and the upfront cost seemed shockingly high. Paragon's quote was in the middle of several firms we investigated, but still, we were thinking we could save money right away by figuring out a design ourselves. Keep in mind, engaging a designer will be your first expense. Later on you will be writing check after check without thinking twice but in the beginning, you will hesitate. You will think, they can spit floor plans out of a computer in an hour. It's a counter and some cabinet boxes and some tiles. Plug in the numbers and it's done. You will think of the cost of designer time, when you really should think of the cost of designer expertise. You are paying for knowledge, experience, and talent, which actually is priceless. In this case Aimee's knowledge, experience and talent were an amazing bargain. She and her partner Christina visited our kitchen several times and talked to us about our issues and what we wanted out of a remodel. They took exact measurements, and then several weeks later came back with renderings of four different layouts, with pros and cons listed for each. We worked with her and in the end combined two of these proposed designs and asked for cabinet estimates, a counter source, and advice on paint, flooring and tile. Here Aimee's contacts were key. We visited a slab yard in Berkeley together and picked out stone that would work with her design, and found complimentary backsplash tile and flooring. She put together a cabinet order that was complex and complete, with a company that gave a firm delivery date, and with that in place we were able to start demo on Jan 5. Paragon provided a complete set of layout and elevation plans with all measurements that our electrician, cabinet installer, tile contractor and plumber used with everything accurate and complete. Because of her assistance, we experienced smooth sailing step by step, and the project was completed exactly one month later! Throughout the process, Aimee was instantly responsive with questions about delivery, measurements, paint colors, lighting fixture suggestions, and sink and faucet recommendations. Everything she recommended worked perfectly, and when everything was finished the results were amazing. We could not have been more pleased. My wife and I recommend Paragon highly. Remember when considering engaging a designer, that you will be living with the end result for many years, long after the memory of starting the ball rolling has faded. You will enjoy the results!

The owner has been at this for decades and is incredibly knowledgable about sinks and fixtures. My wife and I were looking for a traditional bathroom sink to better fit the decor (i.e. original small black & white tiled floor) of one of the bathrooms in our almost hundred year old Berkeley home. We went to a few of the more popular plumbing and hardware places in town and everything was very contemporary (and help was hard to find). At first my wife was reluctant to check out the Sink Factor due to its somewhat rundown condition, but we went in and the owner knew immediately what we were looking for, took 15-20 minutes to show us lots of examples on the computer from several online catalogs of companies he works with until we found one that looked right. Ditto with the fixture. He actually makes customizes fixtures there in his workshop in the back. We walked 45 minutes later having ordered the sink and fixture. It was ready ten days later, and is now installed. All in all a Five Star experience!
