I went in last week hoping for a foot scan and recommendations on which shoe would be best for my feet. Despite asking several times for a fitting, the salesperson said I didn't need it as the Hokas were all neutral. Despite my telling him I wasn't limited to Hokas as I wanted the best shoe for my feet, he never even measured my feet. I decided that this year was the year to get properly fitted for running and walking shoes and conveniently made an appointment online for this location (appointments are available throughout the weekdays and walk-ins are accepted on the weekends). The appointment itself takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Bethany assisted me and listened intently for my goals that I had as a beginner runner. After the fit test (I learned so much about my feet which apparently changed sizes after pregnancy!!!), I was brought out several options for shoes. Bethany was knowledgeable about the different brands and styles. I ended up leaving with 2 separate pairs (one for running and one for walking). Foot scan and shoe try on takes time!the scan took 10 minutes maximum. Shoe try in I think about 1-2ish hours total depending on your needs. I went here myself and then brought both my parents back to get their feet scanned. They both have foot pains and aches. We were able to find them both a pair of shoes and inserts that helped the pain disappear or lessen! They also let you take your time and try things on and walk around to make sure it's the correct fit. However, when there are a lot of people in the store it is difficult for them to keep up with the demand. (Not their fault) I would recommend for some people to have patience when coming to a running store, or maybe not come at a busy time. The foot scan was free and it was very helpful! I think it's a worthy time investment to help you understand your own body better. read more

Update: Twisted my ankle on shoes I bought here that were recommended by store manager, which she argued were better suited for my needs. Short version: Employees were rude and loudly complained about customers in my hearing. Limited selection-meant to cater to people who do not know too much about running shoes-I would also be skeptical of them fitting you based on your gait unless it's different employees than what I encountered. "A running shoe is just a running shoe-there are no specific varieties." She also made a disparaging comment about the price of shoes implying I couldn't afford them. Long version: Limited selection of shoes and unpleasant experience with employees. I brought in my old running shoes and shared I was looking for something similar with medium tread. The manager shared that a high tread shoe would be better suited to my needs without ever asking me about what those needs are. The three shoes she pulled were very high and I asked about some alternate shoes on the wall. Not only did she dismiss my concerns and the type of shoes I wanted, when I asked about other shoes on the wall she commented "those shoes are $160." She also said the other shoes would not be well-suited for my needs. I had a disappointing experience-she also shared inaccurate information about shoes (that they're supposed to last 6-8 months). It really should be based on the mileage, no? I pointed out different kinds of treads/shapes that may be different for marathons, XC, indoor/outdoor-she said a "running shoe is just a running shoe, there's no special varieties." I pointed out why then do people run with a special track shoe with spikes-and she commented that's just a different category. Ok... I bought one of the shoes she recommended against my better judgment and ended up twisting my ankle. The two employees also loudly complained about other customers when I was in the store like I wasn't even there (which kind of reflects the experience as a whole). While in the store, I noticed they didn't have shoes one couple wanted who very politely said they understood/no other help offered, they kind of mildly also verbally sparred with one other customer-I could notice she was somewhat upset/irritated, and one couple who came in they kind of dismissed and tried to sell a fitting instead of offering helpful suggestions to them/asking them relevant questions. I looked at the other reviews-and it looks they avoid experienced runners and hope to sell shoe fittings to inexperienced runners. However, based on the advice I received, I would be careful coming here as to avoid injury. read more

I made an appointment for a gait analysis and respective shoe fitting. I'd never done one before, but Megan at Potomac River Running was super laid back and friendly. I'm not well versed in the world of athletic shoes, but she explained the differences in all the shoes I tried on very thoroughly and let me take my time in testing them out. They weren't pushy at all about making me buy them that day, which was SO nice. I like to research reviews and also talk to my spouse about a big purchase. They didn't question me and just offered to put the shoes on hold for a few days. Highly recommend this store for people who are new to running! read more

My husband and I went to PR on a friend's recommendation and had an excellent experience. We were warmly greeted as we entered by Ms. Rachel Kramer who immediately made us feel as ease. She patiently listened to our requirements and then took the time to do a gait test and show us a range of shoes that would meet our needs. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and looking out for what would be best for us. Went there to buy 2 pairs of shoes. My wife wanted a pair and I wanted a pair. Would have been the easiest sell of all time for the people working there today. We were greeted and then ignored the rest of the time. We stood by the women's nike shoes for about 10 minutes. The store was busy, and we are easy going so we figured we'd give them time to come to us since they seemed busy. One employee, a lady wearing glasses kept picking up boxes of shoes and walking back. I think it would have been easy for her to ask us if we needed help, she didn't. Another, the woman who greeted us when we came in (we are forced to give a star on yelp reviews, so I guess the star goes for the greeting, which was admittedly friendly and warm) , left and was on the phone. That's fine, but in between helping another customer and getting the phone we were right next to her, she didn't help us. A third employee, a young man, saw us, made eye contact with me, then saw a mother and daughter walk in and helped them instead. Which cool, I watch Gilmore Girls too, maybe he was hoping for a fast talking, cool interaction, but it kind of sucked for us, the two awkward people just standing there like idiots trying to get shoes. After all that we stood around a little longer and then awkwardly made our way out. We have been buying shoes at this store pretty much since they opened, we also have $25 dollar in their reward program that we wanted to use. Womp womp... In the words of my mother: "I am not mad, I am disappointed....hmmmm, no I am pretty mad", I just wanted some new shoes. We both knew exactly our size and what shoes so someone just needed to hand us two boxes of shoes and take our money. We wouldn't even need to try them on, because again, I just needed to replace the same exact pair of shoes I already have. In conclusion: this place made me pretty angry. If you are a quiet reserved person and you see anyone else in the store then maybe come back another time, this store is probably not going to be your jam. To the staff: wtf mate(s)? To the owners: It's possible I am not the demographic you are going for, you know, former high school and college runner, now sometimes marathoner, who goes through shoes every three months and only shops at running stores. They offer a Treadmill test which has a camera attached behind your feet to see if your feet are straight when you are walking or running. I visited on weekends, so there was not many people around. The store is clean and carries up to date merchandise of running gears, shoes, and clothes. Average price for a good pair of running shoes are about $100 and above. I normally buy my shoes from Nordstrom Rack or something, but this was a good experience. Good shoes support your weight and balance, so I guess it is worth every dollar. Today was sign in for a race so the store employees were consumed with getting people checked in. I had to hunt down a sales person and when I did he wasn't very helpful. One sales person stood there playing on an iPad while myself and a few other customers waiting for assistance. The store has more clothing and gear than running shoes. Disappointing to take time out of the weekend in order to try the Elliptigo bike, which we want to purchase, but stand around for 20 minutes while a salesperson continually tells you she will be right with you. Instead she proceeds to assist every other new customer that walks in the door. Two salespeople, three customers (me being the fourth).....feels like an organization not focused on customer service. I did not purchase from here, however, I was an organizer of a race that recently used PRR to facilitate our race. When I came in the day before the race to do our pre-race packet pickup, they did have a table set up with our bibs on it, but they didn't have any of our t-shirts for the race out nor did they have the registration list posted outside to help expedite the process of packet pickup. They were also entirely missing our volunteer t-shirts. Although it was not important for that day, as volunteers were not needed until actual race day, it just was another instance of the lack of attention to detail. On the actual race day, they were rather on point, until it came time to determine finishing times. They, apparently, had a "glitch" in their system which caused a huge delay in prize winner announcements to the point over 75% of prize winners were not present when they were announced. Also, I had to deal with explaining massive discrepancies in time with multiple people saying they timed themselves and the PPR reported times were as much as 5 minutes off their self-timed pace. It was a pretty uncomfortable situation for me, especially given that this was nothing my organization had control over. We have used PPR in the past and this was the first time something of this magnitude happened, so perhaps we will use them next year, but only because there are not a lot of race management alternatives in the area. read more

We have taken our son there multiple times for running shoes (cross country runner). Rory, the store manager spent the time needed to find the correct shoe for him. I appreciate that they checked out his stride on the treadmill so we could find the right shoe that would give him the needed arch support. I had never purchased "real" running shoes, but I wanted to start a couch to 5k program. Several serious running friends were adamant that I had to get a decent pair of shoes and PR seemed to be the consistent recommend. I was not looking forward to walking into a store and explaining that I had no idea what I needed to buy or where to start. I stopped by on a weekday morning in hopes of avoiding too many other shoppers. I was immediately greeted by Kerry, who was so happy to help. She was warm and friendly. She was very knowledgeable and I felt very confident in her recommendations. She offered to do a gait analysis and brought out many pairs of shoes for me to try based on that. She listened to my opinions on the shoes I tried on and adjusted her recommendations based on what I liked and didn't like. I didn't feel that she was pushy with sales at all - I felt like she wanted me to be genuinely happy if I decided to purchase. While she was helping me, a second customer arrived and Kerry juggled both our needs well - speaking to both of us and providing us both with options that met our needs. I have been wearing Saucony running shoes for many years but the styles and fit change so it is so good to be able to find a store that carries many types so that I can find just the right one. I am retired, and wear these shoes EVERY day. I have had foot surgery and need a stability shoe but did not want anything too loud. ANA understood my needs and ordered a pair from their Springfield store so I could compare two different shoes. I was a little surprised that I had to wait a week to get them but I found just the right pair. ANA was there when I returned the second pair and was so genuinely happy that I found something perfect! read more

These guys have been terrific! They take the time to ask questions to help figure out what the right shoe for you is. They don't mind helping you over and over again. They want you to have the right shoe. When they are helping you, they won't leave you to help someone else. They will concentrate on you first, so if the staff is busy, there might be a wait. I will never visit this store again. I find it very rude when a staff person expresses that I can't afford what they are selling. They don't know who I am or what kind of money I have. I have shopped at other potomac running stores and have had great experiences. Not sure why someone with such an attitude would work in the service industry. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more
