Fine dining Prague-style at Portfolio restaurant was an absolute treat. The setting is beautiful and the service was impeccable. Relative to what this wonderful meal would have cost us back home, the pricing was ok as well. My wife started with the butterfly gin & tonic, which came with a science lesson, intricate glassware and a coach. Foodwise, the chef prepared an aperitif with kale and chorizo and we tasted paprika too. Lovely and served cute in an espresso mini-mug. My vegetable salad appetizer featured a delicious and rich triple crème cheese which was amazing. My vegetarian entree was also cheese-forward, featuring grilled burrata over couscous with a tomato cream sauce poured at the table. Perfect and refreshing. My wife had the tasting menu which included a yellowfin tuna ceviche, cod filet sad lamb mains and ended with a delicate tower of chocolate, fruit and nuts. It is tough to describe exactly the cuisine at Portfolio because it has elements from lots of places - that may be where the Portfolio name comes from. Great meal! read more

Looking for tasting menu for my first dinner in Prague. Tried to secure a table at a Czech restaurant but would have to wait for tomorrow night. Concierge subsequently recommended Portfolio, nearby. Ingredients, plating and wine pairing were all excellent. Subtracted one star because I didn't get how the pieces fit together for a couple of dishes. A solid choice for special events and business dinner. The noise level of the restaurant is low, good for carry on conversations. Decoration simple but elegant. read more

So glad this was near our hotel & had such great reviews on trip advisor so that I tried it. We decided on the tasting menu & I had mine with the wine pairing so that my husband and I could both try the sommelier recommendations along with the chefs. Amuse bouche & first course were very good but from there on it just got progressively more amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection with a playful & artistic presentation. Our server was outstanding and very considerate. His recommendations for my husband's drinks were fantastic and the sloe gin cocktail he prepared with apple slices he had dried himself was delicious. Short version - this place is fantastic, don't miss it. Long version - group of 8 looking for dinner, concierge recommended this restaurant, fairly crowded but they put us in the basement which was just fine with us. Great wine list and excellent value. They have a six course tasting menu which i was the only one to try it out - and it was wonderful. Basically smaller portions of all of the menu favorites - for me the veal was the best, but they were all very good and excellent presentation. Not a lot for the vegatarian in the group however. Upscale vibe, modern European food. The restaurant had minimal decor and a sophisticated feel. It was my first night in Prague and I wanted to experience traditional Czech food. Came here on recommendation of my hotel concierge. While the food is not traditional in the sense of goulash, schnitzel and dumplings, the ingredients are unique to the area and of top quality. The food was excellently prepared and artfully presented. Our server was pleasant, cordial and efficient. Although one may think the prices at this restaurant are high, believe me, I'm from a state that is ranked highest with the worse economy and I found these prices ridiculously low for what I received. $4 USD for a glass of Hendricks?! Unbelievable, so I just had to have two! My meal came out to $88 USD for three drinks, a starter and two mains. In addition, we were given bread and an amuse bouche prior to the meal. Really great food, ambiance and service was great considering we showed up on a Friday night without a reservation but a table of four had just left so they agreed to clean the table in 5 minutes and give us the table. I write this review a few days after our meal but every bit as impressed as I was the night we ate at Portfolio. From the moment we arrived I was impressed, from the decor to our first drink, greatness exuded. Our server Martin was absolutely AWESOME! He not only made our cocktails at a higher level of deliciousness, but his service, demeanor and persona was world class. I have eaten at many world class eateries, but only have had a server with his abilities maybe once before, he made our meal and experience better. The food was every bit as impressive as our bad ass server! We had a duck and a tuna appetizers. My first real experience with duck that I can recall. It was amazing, rich in texture and flavor. The tuna was served with an (quail?) egg and caviar, and honestly I wasn't sure what to expect. But like our experience to that point, it was amazing! My babe ordered the quail I got the suckling pig. Both of us were making "yummy noises" and saying "OMG" after every bite. It was so delicious, it was perfection on a plate. Every bite was better than the last. We skipped desert as we were full from copious amounts of gin and rich delicious dinner. Amazing restaurant! Recently it has become one of my most favorite places in Prague. Love the modern, spacious yet cost design, interesting meals and very friendly personnel. Even though it is located on the corner of streets that are rather grey and close to the train station, when you sit next to the window you don't feel bothered by the hassle outside. The atmosphere in the cellar is amazing as well. We really enjoyed our meal at Portfolio. The restaurant is nicely decorated and surprisingly large - with two upstairs dining areas and a large basement with different rooms which was completely full with large parties when we were there. The food here is very French. My husband and I opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings. I started with a vodka martini - it was nice and dry. We were given an amuse bouche of a mushroom soup which was incredible. First course we had was beef carpaccio. I love beef carpaccio and order it probably once a week. Here, the beef itself did not have the best flavor/texture - but combined with the melon and, mushrooms and mayonnaise on the side was very nice. Second and third courses were scallops and white fish respectively - both perfectly fine and well balanced, but not particularly memorable. The fourth course was absolutely delicious - veal fillet with a mushroom sauce - so flavorful. The first four pairings were pretty basic - nothing revolutionary. The last pairing for the dessert was really nice cognac blend which was a nice surprise. Compared to US prices, this place was really good value at about $250. However, this ended up being the most expensive meal we had in Prague. The other two restaurants we ate at in Prague (George Prime and The Alcron) were as good or better. That being said, it was a nice experience with a good menu and I would definitely come back if I'm in Prague again. read more

After eating and boozing around Prague for a few days - my boyfriend and I were overdosing on goulash and dumplings (aka bread slices) and needed a change. A quick Yelp search for fine dining in the city brought up Portfolio. The tasting menu looked great, there was at least one scallop dish (prerequisite!) and it was in the posher part of town with the high end name brand hotels. We called and they were able to seat us right away. Portfolio is a chic eclectic Euro fusion restaurant - very modern design inside! Looked great and just what we were looking for. We went with the chef's Degustation menu (5 courses, plus amuse bouche and palate cleansers in between) with wine pairings. Very reasonably priced for this level of food and wine - turned out at just a little over $200 USD including service. NICE! - Pre-dinner cocktails. Stick only with classics - anything more complicated is outside their wheelhouse. We found out the hard way. Go with a Martini. - Veal Tartar with quail egg - PERFECT! Great cuts of meat and flavor with the rich egg. - Sea scallops and butternut squash. Nice scallop - would have loved another (or 2!). Excellent presentation - looked like a raked Japanese sand garden! - Venison fillet. Mine was a little rawer - my boyfriends perfectly cooked. Sadly this had some sauce poured all over it, that it didn't need. Poor a little on the side of the plate or not at all. - Desserr - Not that memorable. Fruity sorbet/ice cream with some form of cake. Would have preferred something creamier or with a little chocolate, but that's just personal preference. - Wine pairings. All very good and nicely matched - nothing crazily special, but very well matched. No complaints! I learned quite a bit about Rieslings and the dryness/sweetness and harvest time. Overall very good! The only complaint really was too much saucing on the dishes - let the meat taste like meat! It was amazing cuts and perfectly cooked. Fine dining at a great price!! Go visit if in Prague. read more

Get ready for a treat! If you find yourself in Prague, this is a must if you enjoy excellent service, presentation and food that is worthy of the effort that is put into it. We truly had no idea we would be experiencing one of the best meals ever when we walked in, shame on us. My wife, who I find is often disappointed when we dine out, had the veal and she chose not to share it with me. I had the venison which I was nice enough to give her a taste despite me wanting to keep it all to myself. The appetizers were spectacular! Our only regret was we had been traveling and had snacks prior so did not have room for desert. Despite this we were treated to an artfully designed dish that was dusted with a chocolate and candy swirl, "Happy Anniversary" etched into the design and four tasty treats to share amongst us and the other couple. Michael, our host had heard it was our friend's anniversary. Then there was the beer we had with our meal. MMX! You won't find this in other restaurants in Prague at the moment. Michael gave us a taste and my fellow beer drinker and I ordered a glass, followed by another. The wives, not beer drinkers chose to complete their samples, unlike most times when they are handed off to the men to finish. Lastly on our visit, Michael surprised us when he heard my friend and I liked dark beer. He had a personal bottle, that had been gifted to him from the brewer, of MMXs new dark beer. It was brought to our table, opened and served to the four of us. Just delightful, served, not requested, gracious. So, the day we completed our river cruise, completed a four hour bus ride from Nuremberg to Prague, arriving early to our hotel, the Imperial Art Deco, which did not have our rooms ready, we listened to our Viking host who mentioned taking a two block walk to check out this new restaurant called Portfolio and ask for Michael. To our surprise, it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our two week trip. I hope others get to enjoy similar experiences! Good eating! read more

First of all, I arrived with a reservation from our hotel. We were told "Aah, you're from the Imperial? We have a special room for you." We were given our own private room with personal staff! Not bad for a group of retired gov't workers from NYC! I can't describe the food...I was in a euphoric state while eating it, and my descriptions would be incoherent. The service was impeccable. A friend asked for an item that was not on the menu and the waiter said that he would have it prepared immediately. The salad, as requested, was delicious. Each item was presented with white glove service. When in Prague, do yourself a favor and dine here. I fear, however, that once word gets around, a reservation will be impossible. As for the price- by Prague standards, Portfolio might be considered high. By NYC standards, we had appys, entrees, desserts and wine for around $40pp. read more

A relatively new spot by an established chef, off to the side of the tourist epicenter of Prague (but still an easy walk), this small gem definitely requires an advance booking but is worth it. Staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. We had our server do the wine pairings himself, and he was spot-on. We shared a trio of appetizers, both vegetarian and not, and all were complex, creative, and tasty. Main courses were perfectly executed and all had a creative twist in preparation and presentation. Waitstaff and kitchen kept us on-schedule for our concert, even allowing for a bite of dessert as we paid our bill, which was worth every penny. Found this on Yelp and concierge at hotel confirmed that it was a good choice. It was first-rate. Excellent food, nice ambience (even in the basement where we were seated) and almost excellent service. We were seated at table next to two people from our group and they got a better and more attentive server -- but we still liked it a lot. It is apparently expensive for Prague but did not seem bad for major-city restaurant. We spend $116 (paid in dollars) for two drinks each, nice salads, excellent entrees and (because we could not agree) two separate desserts. Highly recommend -- but it would be nice to sit upstairs -- ask for that!! read more

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. We went here and it was pretty much empty, and I can't see why. The food was phenomenal. I guess for Prague it might be a little pricey, but we both got an entree, an appetizer of foie, and cocktails and it came out to about $45 (USD) a person. In the states you probably would have paid about 2X's that. Service was great and the food was excellent. I had the monk fish dish with lobster bisque, and she had their daily veal special. It had a foie gras pan sauce and fried polenta. Everything was phenomenal. Hopefully they pick up a little more business and can stay open, because the food is amazing. Where do I even begin? I'll start by saying it's the best meal my boyfriend and I have EVER had. Every part of our evening at Portfolio was truly exceptional from the service, ambiance, and quality of our food and drinks. We each opted for the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food was out of this world, the portions were perfect and the presentation was beautiful. Each of the wines paired perfectly with the course. My favorite part of the meal was the halibut, which was so fresh and all of the flavors of the dish married perfectly. The scallops were another favorite of mine. The venison was cooked perfectly as well. The staff were all friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. The manager, Pavel, was a wonderful help. I am a food/restaurant enthusiast and I requested a copy of the menu signed by the chef. He made it happen for me! This is the best food I've had in my adult life. We had three courses and we chose the wine pairing options - good choice! The food was deliciously prepared and the service was outstanding. Attentive without being obsequious. I have yet to see a prettier plate - the colours of the meals was wonderful. Our party of 6 had a delicious dinner, with great service. Amuse Bouche was salmon tartare. Starters included a salad with beets and a hoisin marinated flank steak. Mains were the scallops special and veal with a sausage and tongue ravioli. All were well prepared and served creatively. Desserts were the chefs take on a banana split and lovely pineapple,with yogurt sauce. We also shared the chocolate toffife. A bottle of prosecco to start and a Moravian Chardonnay were good matches.
