    Rooftop cocktails!

We had a magical evening on this rooftop restaurant. Try the tasting menu, you won't be disappointed. Great service and ambiance, location can't be beat. Try to book around sunset for some great views, they have heaters and blankets if it gets chilly after dark!

One of the best meals I have ever eaten. The views are spectacular. Came back the second day and tried the cod. OMG never thought cod could be prepared so good! The salad and champagne also tasted amazing. If you are in Prague and want a Michelin star reviewer restaurant this is the place. We had the Filet and lamb.

Coda is a melodious and symphonic medley of flavors and dishes that capture the essence traditional Czech cuisine but at the same time is not afraid to hit the high notes with very forte dishes borrowed from other cultures. The restaurant itself amplifies the theme of music you'll see not only in the Aria hotel but also throughout Prague. Once you walk in you'll whisk by a grand piano and an elegant lobby to their private dining rooms that have the homely but at the same time grand like a mansion's banquet room. The pace of the meal is perfect and you could say it is very comfortably andante. Michaela and her staff were incredible technicians and they were passionate in their performance and craft. Every detail was accounted for and they were almost too attentive if that is possible. Every piece needs a strong into and with that I go to the: APPETIZERS Seared Duck Foie gras served on an parsley root puree and chopped granny smith apples. As music icon Tina Turner once said "simply the best!" Pan Seared Scallops on mango. As delicious as it sounds. The sweetness of the mango really paired nicely with the fresh scallops and each bite just exploded with flavor. Traditional Czech Kulajda. I personally thought the dill was a bit too overpowering but the poached egg was excellent. I great dish to try if you want authentic Czech flavor. MAINS Filet mignon w/ bacon with gnocchi. The filet is cooked perfectly and very juicy. The decadence of the meat is coupled with staccato notes of savory expertly cooked bacon and pillowy soft gnocchi that really makes for a mouth-watering trio. Crispy Oven Roasted Duck served on sauerkraut, red cabbage, and South Bohemian dumplings. I wanted to try something more Czech-style and this was definitely it. I'm not even a fan of duck but this duck was so crispy and the dumplings really elevated the dish. Intermission: Like a good composer would do, every nuance of the piece is accounted for. The plates we dined on were unique and pieces of art themselves designed by the artist Gustav Mahler and they just jump out with his unique caricature portraits on each plate. Very stylish and unique. DESSERT When the meal hit its flourish was with the final movement: the dessert. Traditional plum ravioli served with plum brandy glaze and adorned with roasted bread crumbs. I liked this dish a lot and I was really impressed with the Czech and their sweet breaded desserts. It reminded me of the Asian sweet red bean/black sesame soup cakes but here the bread crumbs really gave it an extra crunchy texture to balance the soft ravioli. But if the ravioli is like Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, then the Fresh vanilla bean panna cotta served with wild forest berries is like Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Truly a masterpiece. It is no wonder so many, including the chef, consider this a favorite. The vanilla bean panna cotta is perfectly smooth and creamy and the berries have the incredible fresh tartness that accents the whole dish. When the meal at Coda reaches its namesake final note you can't help but give it a standing ovation. Bravo! Tip: If it is raining, they have a cabinet to store your belongings such as an umbrella Tip: If you ask, you can see their music and video rooms that are perfect for listening to any record as you digest one of the better meals you'll have in Prague.

Transcendent! That's the descriptive term that kept repeating in my head as I savored my dinner at Coda. For after a week of tasting local fare around town which included a couple of rather nicely prepared Moravian duck dishes, Coda's interpretation of the dish was clearly in a league of its own. After some five evenings sampling the local cuisine, I was looking forward to my meal at Coda which I had intended to be a decidedly non-Czech. And the menu was, with minor exceptions exactly that, offering Caesar salads, tuna carpaccio, monkfish, gnocchi, sun-dried tomato risotto, grilled duck breast, poached halibut, braised lamb shank, pork tenderloin, and more. Only two menu items fall into the category of "local fare": a goulash and a duck dish (not the same as the grilled duck). But the waiter recommended the local duck dish describing it as the specialty of the house, so I went with it. In fairness to the other restaurants, Coda's duck, great as it is, would in truth, not be considered to be prepared in a true Moravianl style. Local fare calls for a hardy style with full-bodied gravy that could easily qualify as comfort-food. By comparison Coda's duck might be better described as Nouvelle Czech, much more delicate in style. The duck and its accompaniments sit in a pool not of gravy but in a rich and concentrated broth that is savory and delicious, so much so that it made me crave seconds for the sauerkraut and red cabbage (no exactly my favorite) which were infused with the broth. In the summer months there is rooftop seating that creates a lovely environment, al fresco dining but without automobile or pedestrian traffic to contend with; only a quiet view of Prague castle on one side the striking skyline of the Old Town on another. True to it's host, Cafe Aria, there is a pleasingly muted soundtrack that plays in the background. The selection follows the theme seen throughout the Hotel, celebrating music in its diversity: Janis Joplin gives way to Mozart who is followed by Stevie Ray Vaugh after which Luciano belts out an aria by Puccini. All in all a thoroughly delightful experience.

Lamb chops with sweet potato purée.

We didn't have reservations but they seated us in the lobby and served us anyway. The service deserved 6 stars. The menu has some very interesting choices but, be warned, it's not a cheap meal. I had the lamb chops with sweet potatoes and enjoyed it very much but I enjoyed the last of my companion's potato gnocchi even more. There are a lot of great restaurants in Prague but this one stands out as a truly upscale experience.

Coda is located 50 steps inside the highly recommended Aria hotel.

A memorable romantic meal to end our stay here last week. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed but very elegant food and service. Our Czech wine pairings were spot on. See photos

We had our Christmas dinner here which resulted in a change of menu, specifically the Christmas menu. You had choice of traditional Czech Xmas menu or traditional international Xmas. We chose the latter. It was a five course meal which we lost track of due to bring unimpressed by the food. The setting, decor and ambience was beautiful. It's situated inside Hotel Aria. There was a piano man whom sat very near us and played some familiar tunes which added to the ambience of the restaurant. But the food was simply downright not appetizing. Dish after dish, we kept hoping the next one would be the kicker. But their main which all the shite dishes were leading up to was some rubbery beef with almost decent potato paste. I didn't have a favourite dish because all were duds. But they presented and served them well to cover for the disappointing taste. When we felt ready to go they actually stopped us to inform us there were still two more dishes to go...never dreaded waiting for my food before like that. Due to the forecast of snow and overall freezing cold weather this dinner experience was inside and not on the rooftop. Because it was situated inside a hotel, the interior was traditional nice, including some fancy toilets. The reception were able to call us a taxi and waited for it outside in the cold for us. Also it wasn't cheap, about 4300 CZK all up. I would love to know if the normal menu is decent but we don't have that time to waste...next restaurant please!

Imagine the elation a few days later when someone in our group booked a dinner reservation for us at the same place I was regretting having missed! With a group of a dozen of us, I think someone ordered everything on the menu. We were all thrilled. We had appetizers , cocktails and entrees -- everything we had was great! The restaurant is family-owned and we were treated to the son being a primary server for our group. Now and then dad was part of the picture too and we enjoyed the added dynamic. Pretty sure the son is on point for Americans as his English was on point. They were great hosts!

We learned about the restaurant from a group of travel bloggers we've used for trips both in the US and globally. The restaurant is located on two floors in Henry's Bell Tower, near the Powder Tower. As some have noted, the restaurant is on the pricier side. However, the food is so well prepared that if you are in the mood for a splurge in a unique location, you should go for it. My husband, stepson, and I had three different traditional Czech entrees -- the wild boar ragout, the duck breast, and the venison with dumplings -- and all three were outstanding. Combined with a traditional Czech pils, you can't go wrong. We skipped dessert in favor of a fresh chimney cake on our walk back to the hotel. The restaurant took us a little early for our reservation, which was helpful as we were tired from our day of flying and ready to get to bed. The service struck a nice balance between being attentive and not overly so. The crowd was a mix of tourists and locals enjoying a nice dinner. The vibe was casual and unstuffy.
