Wow, have I got a story to tell about these guys. 1st, yes, they are the cheapest internet you'll get in Baltimore. But read below and determine for yourself if it's worth it: I used port networks for 4 years at my previous apartment. There was hardly ever any downtime, and the service worked great. When I moved I planned to have it installed at my new place. First, they made three (THREE) install appointments that were 1) sent to wrong address 2) No show 3) Never entered into their system so never scheduled (this actually happened twice, I had to call multiple times over the course of two days to receive confirmation that they were actually going to show up). Finally (over a week after the original install date), they show up. They proceed to spend FOUR HOURS installing the internet and then when they leave I realize they've left all of the wires they've installed dangling literally everywhere. They didn't bolt in a single one. I had to call and ask for a guy to fix it and sure enough he missed some, so I had to call AGAIN to have another guy fix it. Why am I writing this review now? Well, the original install technician told me the outlet I had asked him to put the router on was busted and not working, so he installed the router at another (easier to reach one- though the couch weighs maybe 60 pounds and it can easily be slid). Today, weeks after install, I finally got the chance to test the outlet. It's not broken at all. The router works fine in it. I had to rip out the bolted wire to place it behind the couch, wasting another hour of my time. So, they lied to my face :) I wish I could say that's surprising after all this crap, but honestly, are you, dear reader, surprised? I sure am not, since it appears incompetency is their motto. Oh, and they also sent me an incorrect install bill. I was originally quoted 220 some odd, then 146, and after all this drama they "corrected" it to 202 or so. So for all of that insane hassle (and being lied to), I got the magnanimous amount of ~$23 dollars off. Truly, so generous! Definitely worth the 5 hours I spent chasing after them to fix their subpar work and actually learn how to use their scheduling system. Can't recommend them enough, if you're a masochist! read more

We've been with Port Networks four years now and unfortunately are moving out of the service area and I'm so sad we will no longer have them. Port Networks has been great - there's very rarely service interruptions (unlike some Competitors...), customer service is awesome and always responsive, and it's the best deal I've been able to find. When COVID hit and I started working from home, I realized I was having some connection issues and might need an upgrade. I called Port Networks and ended up purchasing their Better Wi-Fi and the Plume SuperPod system and it ended up being cheaper at the end of the day than what I had before because the monthly cost was reduced. My experience with Port Networks has been quite good. For $50 a month, I get speed that it plenty fast enough to stream movies and surf the web. I live alone so don't stream multiple devices at once, so I can't judge if it works for that, but there is always a faster service if needed. In response to the compliment: Of course I was paying for my own connection. The first year and a half I had Xfinity followed by Verizon. After PN was referred to me I signed up. Yes I SIGNED UP meaning I had a recurring monthly charge for my membership. So yes I do believe my review is warranted after spending over $360 during the time I used PN. And when I said my building uses them I meant that's the ISP my building tried to sell folks on since it's already wired and once you sign up and get your username you gain access. Seriously looking at the amount of reviews between the last 3 posters I understand why they (Port Networks) still have 5 stars when their service is subpar. I live in a building in Mount Vernon that uses them and I must say it's ridiculous considering the amount of buffering, lagging, and/or dropping the signal. Within 2 minutes Hulu buffered 3 times. No lie it's been on about 15 mins now and it's stopped about 13 times all together so far. It's ridiculous. Get your *^&% together. I can't even unwind after work and class by watching TV. read more

This by far is the best local ISP in Baltimore to service residences. I've had the service for 3+ years and it's only beef down twice for about 10 minutes or less both times. Customer service is excellent and the support is very well run. I've always been able to talk to someone but if you need to leave a message I always get a call back within minutes. Before I speak about Port Networks, I'm going to start this review off by stating two things: 1. I will not use Comcast as an internet provider despite the fact that cable service is faster than what Port Networks can provide at present. I used Verizon's DSL service for many years because I was not aware that I had other options. It's slow, overpriced, and when I finally looked at my bill and realized I was paying almost $150 a month for service that doesn't allow me to do my job appropriately. I work as a Web professional, I sometimes do work encoding video, and thus I'm downloading files sized in excess of 7 gigabytes, and then re-uploading smaller, but still fairly large files. Verizon's service is a joke. Comcast's isn't much better considering the load on the system in Baltimore City. I had to make a change. On to Port Networks: I put out the call to my social network on Facebook asking for recommendations for affordable Internet service in Baltimore that WASN'T Comcast or Verizon. A friend of mine works at Port, and we figured out that they can now service my location, so I jumped on it. Customer Service in setting up the account was great, installation was fast, fairly unobtrusive, and generally met my expectations. I chose the 16/8 service which is $70 per month and included the upgrade to a NetGear router. I'm very happy with the service, but the router itself wasn't an upgrade over my Apple AirPort router, so I'm just using my own router. Some reviews note that getting good wi-fi coverage is a problem, and in that case I say simply upgrade to the better router, move it to a more central location in the property, or get one of your own. I haven't had ANY downtime since it was installed. How that's not 5 star worthy, I don't even know. Even IF we get other fibre optic service that isn't Comcast or Verizon, I'm likely to stick with Port Networks. read more

This is literally the worst internet service provider I have ever dealt with. Being a recently graduated law student I have had to deal with quite horrendous internet service providers in the past but holy crap this is awful. I honestly had to create an account on yelp for the sole purpose of warding other people away from port networks. If you are in an apartment building (I am in the St. Paul Regency) you should NOT deal with them. So let's get down to the issues... 1. Incredibly slow service. We aren't talking a like 100kbps here, we are talking unable to load a youtube video at 240p after 4pm any day of the week. They have a few "hubs" in each building that each person absolutely has to share. These hubs then split the available bandwith with other people on the building. You have no way around this, and will have the same horrendously slow service I had. 2. The internet will randomly kick you off every hour to 30 minutes. The internet does this thing where you just get booted entirely and have to wait a few seconds to get back on. Doesn't sound so bad? Well if you have ever had to download something for work over 100 megabytes chances are you are going to lose your connection and have to start all over again praying that it doesn't disconnect yet again. 3. The customer service is a pathetic joke. So let's say you went with port networks despite my warnings and thought you could call in with an issue... well great you get to talk to someone, isn't that awesome?! WRONG it's not! They will literally lie to you about how they are waiting on either hardware or software, depending on who you talk to, from "the manufacturer" in an effort to keep you with them and deceive you from the fact that they don't give a damn about you or your terrible service. In summation, I used port networks for a couple months and regret giving them a cent. I listened to their lies about how they were upgrading in a week and that I shouldn't worry about the service because it would be upgraded soon. These were all lies they tried to feed me in an attempt to keep my cash flowing. They will lie to you as well. Do not give them your money. I've had internet service with Port Networks since January 2016 and could not be more pleased. Everyone has been very personable and professional. It's very reasonably price and speed is as fast I as I need/expect it to be. No problems streaming Netflix, etc. No real service interruption issues - it's just gone out for a few hours on a couple of occasions over the past couple of of years. These are probably the best Internet Service Providers for consumers that I've ever used -- and I've lived all over the country. Internet service providers can be sleazy; that's why I avoided the big ones. After a nightmare experience with one of them, I searched locally. I know the customer service rep by name; he is local, so communication is clear; there were no hidden fees or taxes on my bill; very reasonably priced; and everyone I've dealt with has been kind and respectful. Sometimes it takes a bit for someone to respond - hence the 4 stars instead of 5 - and the website is a bit wonky to interface with, but you really can't get better for a consumer Internet Service Provider. The ABSOLUTE WORST internet service I've ever had. I can't count the number of times I've called to report complete service outages in my unit. When it is working, it's slow. It is extremely inconvenient and frustrating because I need the internet for work. I log onto a database everyday to input work I've done as an Independent Contractor. I often end up losing sleep because I'm waiting for it to come back on, or I'm forced to use my cell phone hotspot, which is limited because I'm on a family plan. I'm currently shopping for new service. I'm typically furious several times per week due to this awful service. Yet they are perfect at charging my account faithfully for my monthly bill. Personally, I think that their customer service is great. Hugh is very friendly and does what he can to help. However, their internet service is absolutely horrible. It randomly disconnects and takes forever to reconnect. Sometimes I'm lucky to be connected for more than 5 minutes at a time. Living in a marina, we had the option of connecting with or without a router. We couldn't connect without one, so we bought the router. It did not make the connection any better, but now we're paying twice as much as not having one. They even installed more towers and that didn't improve the service either. I've been with Port Networks for about 3 months now and I must admit that the internet service is great. I have the Single-Family Internet plan (16Mbps/4Mbps) and it's actually very fast. I can stream Netflix and browse the web without interruption. The connection speeds may look low compared to the big service providers such as Comcast and Verizon, but don't let that stuff fool you because this is all you'll need for fast and reliable internet. I've been with Port Networks now for a few months, and I'm very pleased with them. The options for internet service in Baltimore city are very limited, and I initially chose them simply so I would not have Comcast or Verizon as my provider. I also liked that they are a small local company. It turned out to be a lucky choice for me. They're a great ISP. I highly recommend them. Some of the things I like about Port Networks: They scheduled the install within a two hour window. The installation crew were friendly and technically proficient. If there is an issue, someone answers when you call, and the problem is resolved quickly. They hit or (usually) exceed my paid for download/upload speed consistently, none of the 80% assigned bandwidth I got from other providers. So far it's been 100% up time. My monthly bill has no hidden fees. It's exactly what they quoted me. They're wireless so it's one less wire running to my house. If you're sick of dealing with your current ISP and want to try a local company with great reliability and service give Port Networks a call. read more

The service used to be on and off before 2015, somehow it got better with the months. Currently, Port Networks is reliable. I use it for school and social media, as well as watching Netflix. It is not the fastest internet service, but it is the easiest and cheapest. I do recommend it. read more

I wanted to move away from Comcast and use a local company but it's just not worth the slow speed. Apple TV is always buffering and doesn't work well with our iphones. I've been with Port Networks for a few months now and so far I've been really pleased! Installation was really easy and the internet the speed is quick. I don't have television so I use wifi for everything - this service may not work for you if you want a tv/ internet package. They need access to your roof to install the antenna, unless you already live in a building that uses Port Networks. They also keep regular office hours, I haven't had any need to call them but this could be an issue if something happens out of office hours. Never had worse service - both the internet service and customer service - anywhere else in my life. The internet itself is unpredictable and unreliable, often turning off randomly, sometimes for hours or an entire day with no warning. When it is working, it's still not doing much. The speeds are insanely slow, barely enough for basic browsing. Don't expect to download files of any size or stream without glitches. I've been forced to suck it up and use their service for over a year simply because they capitalize on buildings where options are already limited. I was going to keep putting up with the terrible service until I encountered their service staff. I was traveling for three months this summer and was told by the first guy I spoke with on the phone that he would put a suspension on my account until I came back. After calling Port Networks literally every single day for two weeks, I spoke to countless different people, none of whom had any idea how to help me or even who to direct me to. It took me over two MONTHS to get the account suspended, during which I was continued to be charged for service I was not touching! (Port Networks advertises itself as contract free, start anytime, cancel anytime, etc) When I inquired about a refund the guy who finally handled my case was abrasive and rude. Amazing how I have to pay for their incompetency AND be chastised for it. I hope that money was worth losing a customer! STAY AWAY. Seriously. Find another service. read more

I'd like to post my own review, partially in response to Hugh's comment to Josh N. He claims that Josh's experience is 'not typical'. While I do not regard Port Networks as a one-star internet provider or think bad people work from them (Hugh, in fact, has been very understanding about the occasional late payment), I have to disagree with his statement. Much of what Josh says happens often and unremittingly. 1. Slow service is indeed a serious problem during peak hours. From about 1AM to mid afternoon download and streaming speeds are admirable. But by the time people are getting off work you begin to notice some slowdown. In my building, where Port Networks is the only provider, 9PM is notorious for terrible internet speeds- I can't speak for the St. Paul Regency but at the Copycat, everyone has Port Networks horror stories and regards internet use the way some people do LA traffic. Is it a good sign that customers' lifestyles have to adapt for your service? 2. Which brings me to this issue of being kicked off every 30 mins to an hour- also, I fear, typical of Port Networks service, and my biggest gripe by far. I can't tell if this is an issue with throttling (a miserable practice) or simply Port Networks' capacity to provide internet. Yesterday I was disconnected during a job interview over Skype. I feared it would happen and it did. I probably don't need to specify further how undesirable an issue this is. And sadly, it can go beyond what Josh indicated. While most disconnects are resolved within 30-60 seconds they can occasionally be for many minutes at a time, upwards of an hour at worst. That said, Port Networks is a slightly more budget conscious option that doesn't require any physical installation on the part of the end-user. Their customer service, I suspect, is hamstrung by the fact that the company cannot/will not improve the issues facing its functionality- apart from that, they are friendly on matters generally. I do not think Hugh is correct to say that it is a 'superior' alternative to providers who have more resources and simply faster service. However, an alternative is appreciated in its own right. read more

This internet was crappy. My building was already set up for it but the router could only be in one place, right by my front door, to get any signal. Which then meant that I only had Internet in half of my apartment and it was still a weak signal. I tried twice to turn off automatic payments online and finally had to call them after being charged extra months. Luckily they did refund one month. Then once I turned back in my equipment after my service I was still charged as if I had decided to keep the router for myself. This was way more hassle than it was worth. The only good thing was that they tried to be helpful but just couldn't get the billing figured out. read more
