A good portion of brisket, crispy melted cheddar, creamy mac n cheese, covered in a sweet and tangy barbecue drizzle and in between crispy buttered texas toast slices... heaven. We also got the brisket tacos which were made with corn tortillas that were warmed on the flat top with crusty cheese and then stuffed with the delicious brisket. I do wish it had some sort of salsa or acidity to balance out the richness. We also go some brisket slices to eat on their own, which were fatty, flavorful, and had a nice little smoke ring. So my wife and I are in San Antonio for a few months and we decided to visit all the Yelp places in San Antonio that made the top 100 for Texas. There are seven of them, and Nelson's BBQ (#21) was the last one on the list for us. I call on Saturday after I get off of work to just ask him if he's still got food left and I find out that his hours are kind of non-standard. He typically takes orders and gets food ready as the orders come in but he's not at his food truck all the time. That was a little bit different for me but he was very accommodating and willing to make his schedule work with mine and get our order done as soon as he could. It did take about 2.5 weeks until it finally worked out but the food was delicious. The timing and communication could've been a little bit better but Mr. Nelson was working hard and really trying to get as much done as possible. Needless to say, the food was delicious. We tried the nasty Nate (our favorite), the Mac n cheese which was delicious, pulled pork (very good), sausage (thought it was going to be a little better), ribs (good), cornbread (very good). The best dish was the nasty Nate and the cornbread but the sausage was disappointing. Still, overall 5 stars for the meal.
