Had the BEST time at PopUp Bagels today. This might just be my favorite bagel spot. They are the softest bagels I've ever had and the cream cheese shmear is definitely something to rave about. Today we ordered a mix bag of bagels and the scallion cream cheese shmear. I am a cream cheese lover and I slap a thick layer on my bagels, but don't worry there is enough to share. The store had really cool vibes and the service was very lively. We entered at around 3:30PM and since they close at 4 they even included two extra bagels in our bag as a surprise. The best bagels I have had in palm beach county. They only have 5 flavors (which leaves more to be desired) but they are delicious. We had the everything, salt and plain with scallion cream cheese. The plain by far was the winner and I would never say a plain bagel would be. They the taste of the dough is delicious that it is hidden in the others. The salt is way to strong but the everything is obviously the "best" if you have to choose a flavor. The cream cheese is above what I expected. The portion is huge for three bagels! I did not expect it to be. I love the rip concept. They do have knives at the register if you don't want to do that. The movie theme was evident with black and white checker floors and two black directors seats next to a colorful wall collage of people and famous actors enjoying bagels. There were several types of bagels baked in the view of every customer making the process of sheer freshness transparent. The sizes of bagel bundles start at three with a container of schmear. Sat at the lone table inside and unearthed my salted bagel from the brown paper bag bearing the PopUp Bagel name and instantly noticed its impressive weight with a dense yet fluffy bite. It was actually difficult chewing since I was smiling the whole time. Absolutely the best salted bagel that I have encountered. I like how PopUp Bagels focuses on a few bagel varieties and does them well. The scallion cream cheese was very good, creamy and a bit light, the lox came in a package and was a bit salty and fresh. And of course, the bagels - there were great - a bit chewy while also soft and doughy. They have a few inside tables and outside tables in a sunny turf area in between the building and The Ray Hotel. Not sure I love this concept of plain bagels with a side of dunking cream. They will not prepare or fill the bagel for you. You are suppose to rip it and dunk it. The bagels taste great and they are fresh. A bit smaller than one is to expect. Lots of toppings on it. They are freshly made and the flavor is better than most in the area. I had been CRAVING PopUp Bagels and finally went today, and it did not disappoint!! The bagels were absolutely delicious and still warm by the time we got home. Everything was so fresh and SO good. Got to check out this new bagel spot with the parents while they were in town. We grabbed a three pack of bagels and smear to go. There was only one high top table inside and it was kind of loud so we took it to go. Got the caramelized onion spread which was nice, soft and tasty but on the sweeter side. So they are soft and chewy. They won't cut them in half and won't toast them. We got scallion cream cheese. I will say this was excellent scallion cream cheese, IMO. The scallions were small, not overwhelming like in most others. So yeah, it was really good, but you either have to bring it home to put away or go with at least one other person. I ordered three bagels and a tub of plain cream cheese. And yes -- the bagels were hot. The cream cheese was excellent too. I'm officially convinced -- this very original concept works. It's also backed by impressive marketing: the packaging, the store artwork, the whole presentation. They're promoting bagels like I've never seen before. The shop itself is great, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I managed to snag the only table inside, which made it fun to watch customers order while I sampled my purchase -- a mix of first-timers and clear repeat customers. Some people complain about the pricing, but honestly, it has to be done this way. The entire concept hinges on always serving HOT bagels. They don't use warmers because that would change the bagel, and if they sit too long, they don't sell them -- which is costly. I respect that. I'm happy to get on the pop-up bandwagon and support the concept. When I'm here, I never have to ask, "What's hot?" As for the bagels themselves -- very good. Perfectly cooked, generously topped (poppy seeds, or whatever you choose), slightly smaller than traditional NYC bagels but not an issue. A little crispy on the outside, warm and soft inside. After all the hype I found PopUp bagels disappointing and yes they are certainly better than other chain outlets like Brooklyn Bagel and Einstein's however the bagels were sub-standard and if I were in outer borough NYC I would have tossed mine. An authentic bagel should never be toasted as it destroys the texture and seeing that that PopUp doesn't toast was a positive sign but the texture of these bagels is not correct. A real bagel should be chewy but not heavy with a light crispy exterior but these bagels had the dreaded roll like consistency. I had two spreads, the Scallion and the Truffle and the Scallion was fine but the Truffle had an awful overpowering chemical taste. PopUp was very disappointing. read more

Born and raised in NY City suburbs, and living in South FL for half my life, I know bagels! PopUp's bagels are a nice snack, but they are barely bagels. Small, very light and soft, they make a big deal about the variety of spreads, ranging from sweet to savory. You must buy at least 3 at a time for $15. They won't slice them, the place is strictly carry-out, and they only have a variety of 5 types (plain, sesame, poppy, everything, and salt). That's $5 each, compared to about $2 each at most South FL bagel places, many of them much better than PopUp's what I would describe as "rolls" or "pastries." All the cashiers were young women, extremely friendly, and they sell, sell, sell! All the nearby parking is paid parking, although they claim the first half-hour is free. I'm glad I tried PopUp, but this was the only and last time. read more
