Awesome burgers, the pops burger is good. They never disappoint me. I would recommend this place.

Pops Drive-in might want to vet their night crew better. I pulled into their drive-thru at 7:30pm and was greeted by a much delayed intercom greeting which was comprised of a large belch into the microphone and a bunch of unintelligible mumbling by what sounded to be a young man. He couldn't put two words together and was obviously in a state of substance abuse or a mental emergency. Either way, I couldn't get an order in after 30 seconds of trying. I'm a sucker for a greasy burger and fries. Even more when it comes with a side of nostalgia. I was introduced to Pop's a few years back by a friend who raved about the their food as one of the best burgers in town. That's a pretty big claim, in my opinion. I try not to go into a place with high expectations, but this person had pretty much built them up for me. Aesthetically, the place isn't much. It's an old style drive-in and can be VERY hot and muggy during the summer months. But it's soooo worth it. Great patty's with avocado, bacon, grilled onions...pretty awesome old fashioned flat top burger. The crinkle-cut fries are awesome too. Plus vanilla coke. YUM! read more

I am a sucker for nostalgia, and that's exactly what this place serves up. It is a total no-nonsense drive-in. What more can I say? They have exactly what you expect them to have, and they do it all pretty darn well. They also serve Mexican food, but more than just the fried burritos that other drive-ins serve. They have actual 1970s style California-Mexican food. The usual suspects, all in your choice of either cheese, or ground beef. I usually hate that crap, but I like it when it is handed to me through my car window. I actually really like their salsa, car window or not. Three of the four stars I gave Pop's are for their fries with seasoned-salt and their crushed ice. Many drive-ins and drive-thrus advertised "crushed ice", but Pop's is the real deal. I love it. I've been by here several times. The food is fine. I prefer some other drive-in places in town better though. When I am in that part of Bakersfield, then this is a much better option than the McDonalds close by. The burgers here are much better. There tacos used to be good also. During my last visit though, I didn't like it too much. Would I come back here? Yeah, I probably would. Just not for awhile. It's a decent place with a cool name. I used to be a big fan of Pop's, but not since my last visit. While the prices are still great, the quality has gone down a great deal. I always looked passed their slow and inaccurate service because they had great and well priced food. The tacos I purchased were extremely greasy, cold, and lacked flavor. I'm really disappointed in you Pop! They used to have the tastiest shredded beef tacos around, but they have lost it! I'll try them again someday and hopefully I can modify this review. Pastrami good like always burgers where awesome asada fries on the other hand not so great . Not sure what kinda meat it was, but definitely not carne asada. Lil bit of advice, for the 8 dollar price you guys should at least buy real asada Hope you guys fix the issue read more

I don't come here a lot but a couple times a year I crave the "Pops Burrito" with no rice. It's "white boy" Mexican food. Crock pot meat, big tortilla, and can enchiladas sauce on top with shredded cheese. My favorite hamburger is the regular Jr. hamburger basic. They got the real star ice like Sonic. If you want a quick burger or some fried burritos, then this place is good. I tried their fried zucchini and was disappointed. It was really thickly breaded and tasted like a mozzarella stick when I was looking more for Leo's Burgers (place on Ming Ave.) style zucchini. The deep pit sandwich is worth getting although I think it was served in a hotdog bun rather than afrench roll like a Pyrenees style roll. I love that this place is a mom & pop shop. read more

My favorite food at Pop's if you can believe it is there grilled chicken salad!! The breakfast menu is pretty good too! Also they're all awesome & so friendly! I think I order a chicken salad weekly. I'm always recommending Pop's Drive-In to my family & friends. read more

Their food is pretty good, got the double cheeseburger & my husband got their Pop's burger. Gotta admit the Pop's burger was really big. Got both of us full. Food very delicious. But Idk why every time we go the customer service isn't that great. Might be the time we go but either way we only go once in a while. Besides that the food very good. Just wow. Ive been in Bakersfield for a few years. Like most locals i frequent Johns, ive also become a regular at Zorbas. Someone recommended pops at work, so i tried it. Theyre awesome. For $10 i got an incredible diner class burger, double meat and cheese and some of the best fries ive had out here. The stunning thing was their produce, their onions and tomatoes were waaay better than anyone else, the red onion was almost spicy it was so fresh and the tomato was super ripe but firm. The fries were plentiful and covered in seasoning. Seriously, if you're craving a diner burger, this is your stop. read more

I live on East side of Bakersfield, Pop's was my go place for Pastrami, couple of months ago I stopped and got me the Pastrami special, under new owners this year, 1st time I ordered it was not satisfied it was as good as the previous year, when it was owned by others. 2016 I plan to try again and will reevaluate again, I already have a favorite place on the East side, but I do enjoy their fries and crushed ice drinks! This place is tasty =). I've had a pastrami sandwich, guacamole bacon burger, their strawberry and chocolate shake, and fries. All were yummm!! I sometimes question the cleanliness of this place as it looks very dirty from the outside, but b/c their food tastes so good I kept coming back. I don't know if I'd drive all the way from SW bksfld now that I don't ever come to this side of town, but I definitely recommend it to others! read more

Very Grease-Spoon, "Dive-y" kind of place. It is a fun atmosphere only because it is so old. The food is just okay although now and then I really need one of their breakfast platters. It isnt in the best area so we always get it to go rather than sit in their tiny space or on the gross chairs outside. read more

Fantastic milkshakes and great place for the crinkle cut diner style fries with seasoning salt! The owners are really nice as well. I had kind of a long wait once and the owner gave me one of the milkshakes free. The food is worth the wait regardless, it is expected to take a little longer in the diner/dive kind of setting. i just moved out to bakersfield from BALDWIN PARK, CA a city near L.A. and was looking for a good cheesburger meal out here so i yelped it and took my chances. well that dident help it was the cheapest burger and service i could not belive this place is in service. if you call this a good spot to eat you are sick i will never go to that spot again not even for a soda it it is so over priced. my 9yr. old son even told me he dident like his chilly frys. i also asked for chilly peppers and ranch and they want to sale you everything thats when my son asked me if they were going to sale me the straws to drink our soda lol... This place is quickly becoming my favorite place to eat. The staff is so nice & friendly. Sometimes things take a bit longer than other fast food places, but the taste & quality are worth it.
