The Ortega Burger is fantastic!! It's one of my top three burgers anywhere. It's a handmade one-third lb. burger that's always deliciously cooked with a mouth watering sauce with a spicy kick. The Ortega chili is big and yummy and to top it off, the top bun has seasoned salt sprinkled on it!! But I would make the trip out to Lamont just for the fries!! Root Beer King in Lamont is worth the drive. When my family comes into town from North Carolina they always want to go to Root Beer King for the burgers and fries. The Ortega Burger is my fav. Took a drive out to Lamont on a recommendation from a friend to try the Root beer king out there. I was pretty impressed when we first arrived. It was a pretty cool looking classic diner with neon lights outside. Waked in and even the interior had the classic diner feel to it. We came in at 8:40 and were told to go orders only because they were closing soon- at 9:30!!!! So not too happy about that after driving 30 minutes but whatever. I always order unsweetened iced tea as I try and keep my sugars down but they were out so strike 2. The staff seemed really bothered that and customers wanted to order food! We both ordered the King burger combo. It took a while but I think that's because they make each order fresh. We got our order and ate it in the car. Not gonna lie it was really good! The hamburger was seasoned to perfection and those crinkle fries were so crispy and the seasoning salt is to die for!! What a waste that the amazing food we ate was ruined by such bad service. Coming in 50 minutes before closing isn't too much to ask and should have been able to enjoy our food in the dining area! But I will return because the food was that good and hopefully I'll be able to give them the 5 star review that the food deserves! read more

I've been meaning to stop by here when I'm in Lamont for work after my co-workers had been preaching about how good it was. I finally got the chance last week and it was so nice I ate there twice. First stop I had a double cheeseburger and fries, both absolutely delicious. Enjoyed every bite, the burger was packed with flavor, fries were nice and crispy, everything was seasoned really well couldn't have asked for better. The second time I asked them to add the spicy sauce the put on the ortega burger to my double cheeseburger and it made something already great just a little bit better, the sauce was great and perfect on that burger. I can't recommend it enough and you can get a combo with a burger, fries and drink for under $12, where else can you get that today? read more

Root beer king is a Lamont staple, I used to eat here every weekend when I lived in Lamont. You can never go wrong with the king burger add pastrami and a side of chili cheese fries. I guarantee you won't leave hungry. There Pattie's are homemade and made to order the seasoning is on point and the best part is the little bit of seasoning they put on top of the bun when served. The menu is vast and guaranteed to have something for everyone. I've been to the one in Bakersfield on Niles but it's definitely not the same as the original. The staff at the Lamont location is always friendly and the service is great. It's a bit of a drive but I'd highly recommend you make it to have a great burger. I do have to say the prices have gone up so it is a bit pricey now but the portions are huge especially with the fries, they're not stingy. I've been eating here since I was a kid and every time I comeback I'm always afraid something changed. Thankfully thought out the years since I've moved, it's still remains the best burgers I've ever had. Every time I comeback home I always hit up root beer king because it always delivers. I was in Lamont for work and after we were done, our crew ended up at Root Beer King for lunch. This was my first time here but it was highly recommended and there was sure to be something for everyone on their menu. They had a surprising amount of options ranging from burgers to chili dogs to burritos. I copied one of my coworkers and went for the pastrami sandwich combo. It comes with seasoned crinkle fries and a fountain drink. I wasn't even sure what to expect but I was surprised. The pastrami comes in a French roll type of bread. Maybe it's a hotdog bun. The pastrami is thin, crispy, and juicy. Imagine a less salty and less fatty bacon. I loved that it comes with pickles that line the length of the bun so you get just the right amount of pastrami and pickle in each bite. The fries are nice to have and cooked perfectly. They were crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I wasn't a big fan of the seasoning and honestly, just the sandwich was enough for me. I ate half and brought the rest home for second lunch. The bathroom was "not working". Two of my coworkers ended up having to walk to the Fastrip down the street to use the restroom. They do have an outdoor sink so you can still wash your hands. I heard they have a good milkshake too. If I end up here again, that's what I'll try. read more

Yeah, it was okay. $18 plus pastrami combo, with fries, and a medium Pepsi. Slightly chewy pastrami on a greased up hot dog buns with pickles and mustard, was okay at best. Fries are definitely the highlight, seasoned well and they give you a bunch. The biggest thing to me was this is a $12 combo with a $18 price tag. Take care of your community and keep the prices reasonable. Won't be driving out to Lamont from Bako again for this place, thank God I have an ev. When I asked can I have another but with out the hair, the girl served me another chili fries but with the same French fries batch that the hair came out of... Root Beer King is a must go to restaurant when in Bakersfield. Either Niles location or the Lamont location. Great food, big portions, at a decent price. The Lamont location brings a great old school diner environment. Pretty small interior with about 4-5 booths inside, they have outdoor seating for nice days out. I ordered the Bacon Salad Cheeseburger this time around. Let me tell you, they do not skimp on the bacon! No precooked thin sliced bacon here. They serve it thicc and crispy. Diced onions, pickles, shredded iceberg lettuce, American cheese, thin burger patty, with a mustard grilled bun topped with season salt. All goes for a great tasting burger. The thick crinkle cut fries are great. Cooked perfectly and seasoned liberally. All food was cooked to order so it takes some time, but definitely worth it. Sadly refills are 55 cents, I would opt for the larger drink, or ask for no ice, to get the most out your beverage. I do highly recommend eating at Root Beer King! read more

I grew up on this place and I'll just put it this way my aunt has lived in the same house for 55 years... So growing up it was a staple to go here and eat the best burgers french fries with season salt crushed ice vanilla Pepsi's and my mom and my aunts favorite root beer floats!! To this day it's still super busy with at least four girls working in a very small kitchen just to keep up with the orders.. The Decour is really cool 55 for the jukebox and all the right café decor. And it's a staple for this very small town on the outskirts of Bakersfield but there's a back way to LA going over the grapevine so it's worth the detour!! Bon appétit read more

I'd have to best burgers and fries in all of Kern country that's for sure. The main factor is their signature seasoning. They put it in the buns and fries and it really kicks it up. They have a pretty extensive menu but your best of if you stay within the realm of burgers and fries. You might find a place with burgers that are pretty equal in taste, but you will not find one to match their fries. They never taste frozen. Always fresh. The 2 things keeping this from 5 stars is the fact that some other menu items, like tacos and such, are below par, and this place isn't always the cleanest. 4 stars. read more

Hidden in the middle of Lamont. Cute little 50's diner. Nice decor brings back memories. My dad & Grandpa would have loved it. I had never heard about this place until recently from my mom who's friend took her to lunch. I must say one of the best burgers and fries I have eaten. Cooked to perfection, huge portions & well seasoned. Only complaint is it gets busy @ times so bring something to wipe down the tables, but will not stop me from the dining love the food. I am not one to complain , but today was not a good day to dine out at root beer king . First to begin our night the girl at the counter had a bad attitude , asked for an extra tartar sauce and I had to stand there for over 4 minutes , granted she had a customer ordering but the ways she handled the scenario was not customer driven . My girlfriend ordered a bacon cheeseburger and her bacon was way over cooked she asked for no mustard or onions and yes it was on her burger . I could have gotten up and asked them to fix it but if asking for an extra cup of tartar took almost 5 min I didn't want to wait over 10 just to have her burger redone .
