From the waiting area to the hostess stand to bathroom back in the far corner. Even the way the booths and tables were organized. It has a very western Americana vibe to it. The service was exceptional. The kind of service you only get in long established family owned restaurants that employ people for decades. Our waitress was great and attentive and kind. We got the onion ring stack to start. It was great but next time I'll get the zucchini fries which looked amazing. For our entrees we got the stockyard, burger and split the sides. Backed potato, salad and chili soup. The chili soup was t as good as the one I grew up going to but still passable. The backed potato was awesome! And the stockyard was great as well. I went again recently with some friends to grab breakfast, and we called ahead since it was a larger party. They had the long table in the middle set up for us and were quick and ready to get us all seated and served. The inside of the restaurant is small but very charming, with lots of airplane memorabilia and decor. The outside has a nice covered patio where you can actually watch some of the planes taking off or landing if you're lucky with your timing. Our large group got our food out very quickly. I'm so impressed by how fast they work while having the food still tasting fresh and hot. We were especially impressed by the special hot dog one of us ordered (I forgot the exact name), but it was loaded with toppings and she could barely get through half of it. Such a deal! I got the Irish melt and loved the flavor of the corned beef mixed with the coleslaw. The fries were also just crispy enough with a nice, fluffy inside. But, the manager's shocking behavior entirely ruined our experience. Will not return. * The Good: The facility is stunning. without a reservation, the staff stil accomidated our large group with a private room. The sever was attentive, friendly, and very perky. As well, the kitchen served a large group incredibly fast. * The Problem: One guest ordered a medium-rare steak that came out completely overcooked. When she asked for a remake, the manager came out and insulted her to her face, told her that if he remade it it would be exactly the same, then sarcastically asked if she "wanted him to slap down a raw steak on her plate." She said it was fine, kept the food, then later left the table and broke into tears in the restroom. * The Confrontation: After dinner, I approached him calmly to offer polite, constructive criticism based on professional customer service experience (worked restaurants for years in a restaurant my family owned) He became fiercely stubborn, denied the insult, and grew so aggressive and volatile that I had to walk away. * The Staff's View: Tellingly, multiple staff members whispered comments to our group about how awful this manager is to work for. It is a shame that a hardworking kitchen and great servers are being weighed down by a manager who lacks basic human decency and conflict-resolution skills. We spent a lot of money to be insulted. After an excellent steak dinner that cost approximately $330, we brought out a small, pre-sliced ice cream Polar Pizza for our son's birthday. I began serving it myself because it was already sliced. The waitress then came over and, in a confrontational manner, announced that we would be charged a $25 cake-cutting fee. The fee may have previously been mentioned to my wife, but I was not aware of it when I began serving the cake. I understand that restaurants have policies, and a calm explanation would have been enough. Instead, the situation was turned into an unnecessary scene during our son's birthday celebration. Then another large male employee came over, stepped directly into my personal space, and angrily asked, "Would you bring beer into a bar?" He got right in my face without first asking what had happened or allowing me to explain. His tone and decision to get that close were aggressive, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. We ultimately paid the $25 fee even though the staff did not cut, plate, or serve the cake. The fee was frustrating, but the confrontational way the employees handled the situation was far worse. Families considering celebrating a child's birthday here should confirm every outside dessert policy beforehand. In our case, what should have been a joyful moment for our son became an upsetting experience. It did not leave us feeling as though families celebrating with children were welcomed or valued. A simple and respectful conversation could have resolved everything in seconds.
