I grew up going to Steer & Stein in Pasadena. We use to go as a family on Monday nights for the weekly special, Fried Chicken. It was some of the best fried chicken I've had to this day but they closed years ago. And I moved to Temecula. So it's been on my list to go this location for a while but it's still a drive so when my son had a golf tournament at Soboba I had to make plans to take him here. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was on a move set of my childhood. The layout and furnishings were exactly like the location in Pasadena forty years ago! From the waiting area to the hostess stand to bathroom back in the far corner. Even the way the booths and tables were organized. It has a very western Americana vibe to it. The service was exceptional. The kind of service you only get in long established family owned restaurants that employ people for decades. Our waitress was great and attentive and kind. We got the onion ring stack to start. It was great but next time I'll get the zucchini fries which looked amazing. For our entrees we got the stockyard, burger and split the sides. Backed potato, salad and chili soup. The chili soup was t as good as the one I grew up going to but still passable. The backed potato was awesome! And the stockyard was great as well. Served on a sizzling metal plate everything stayed hot the whole meal. The burger was good but would probably opt for something else next time. And the Texas toast... forgedda bout it! I got the bacon wrapped tri tip that was pretty good. I asked for medium rare and it was definitely overcooked for my liking. The zucchini fries are rather bland on their own but we're good with the ranch dressing. The salad and fries were good, we well as their strawberry lemonade. The staff were helpful. I was working in the area and was passing by and saw that it had decent reviews so decided to stop by and try it out. I'm so glad I had this opportunity and when in the area again plan to visit again! I had the hickory bacon burger ! It was juicy and full of flavor and cooked perfectly the way I like it! It had thick bacon strips and the buns were warm and just made the burger even better! The service provided by Suzanne was great and friendly and the ambiance is older, rustic, western feel to it! I was so impressed by the burger and the juiciness of it that I will definitely make back and eat here again! Maybe next time I will try their steak ! read more

Absolutely awful from start to finish. The food was disgusting. The soup was sour and tasted rotten and should never have been served to a customer. Everything else we tried was equally bad and clearly low quality. It felt unsafe to eat. The customer service was just as bad as the food. Staff were rude dismissive and completely uninterested in fixing anything. When we complained we were ignored. No apology no concern and no accountability. This place has no business serving food. Do not waste your money or risk getting sick. Steer 'n Stein in Hemet was fantastic! Our party of 10 was seated quickly, and the staff efficiently set up our table without a long wait. The cocktails were great. My favorite was the refreshing watermelon margarita. We started with their potato skins, which were huge and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Ortega Patty Melt, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly, while our friends raved about their juicy, tender steaks and baked potatoes. I came here with my husband and in laws to celebrate Mother's Day dinner together. This was my first time here and immediately observed that it was popular with many guests and their families. We were a party of 5 and waited a little under 30 minutes to be seated. We ordered potato skins to share as an appetizer. They were tasty and came out quick. As an entree, I got the Specialty Steak with a garden salad and mashed potatoes. My steak had good flavor, was very tasty but a little tough to cut. Restaurant was busy but we were seated immediately. Service and staff very attentive and knowledgeable of menu. I ordered a Stockyard steak with fries and a bowl of chili. The wife ordered chicken teriyaki with Nash potatoes and a side of vegetables. The chili was perfect, heavy on the beef and light on the beans. Our main courses was timed and looked and tasted great. Both the steak and chicken were tender and seasoned to perfection. The ambiance was good with music playing in the background where you could listen and yet still have a conversation. This unfortunately is a long post. I called Sternstein yesterday because it was gonna be 14 of us due to my son's birthday.. I was told at the time that they do not reservations. I called this morning to ask him a question about a cake and I also said there would be 14 of us coming again was told we don't do reservations.. we get there and my son actually spoke with the manager and asked if we could get the table and was told no because another large family had come in so then he asked can we at least have the other side over here the tables together this way would only be a couple of feet away. The manager again said no there is no waitress to help you. I then went ahead and went in and spoke to the manager and she said again we don't do reservations and I said we could've picked any restaurant to go to eat we picked you your place and then this is how you react and she was very lazy going against the wall. I guess I wanna call it and two other waitresses just standing there talking and so I asked for corporate number and she said no self owned and the complain complaint stays here. Neither less to say I have been going over there over 40 years and I will never go there again. They have forgotten how many restaurants there are in Hemet ,I have seen with my own eyes how they don't have the customers like they used to have. My husband and I ordered out since we've heard some good things and were in the mood for a more hearty dinner. My husband ordered the stockyard with some mushrooms added on, and that really elevated his steak. It went from a solid 8/10 to a 10/10 in flavor. I didn't take pictures of the steak cut open, but they were both very juicy and flavorful. I ordered the steak and ribs, and the ribs had a great flavor from the sauce. I'll definitely be adding in more mushrooms with the steak next time as well. The fries were good but a bit less on the crispy side. As for the coleslaw, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the crunch of the vegetables made them feel nice and fresh. When we went to pick up, the restaurant was very clean and lively. Ambiance: has a real steakhouse look, if that makes sense. Nothing amazing, casual is for sure the vibe here and there's nothing wrong with that. If you've been to a Steer N Stein before you know the setup. Could it use an upgrade? Sure but won't make it break how you're experience will be. Service: they were slightly busy but still felt I could've seen more o our waitress. She set the food down and we really didn't see her until we needed the check. Which means I couldn't ask for my undercooked food to be cooked more. And we weren't able to get our condiments that we wanted. 1 star for service. Food: so if you are going to have thicker cuts, you gotta learn how to cook them. First, they should've butterflied it so it cooked even. Half my steak was rare the other was medium rare. I asked for medium. My fries which were definitely frozen weren't cooked right. When I was ready for the check, the waitress came and seen they weren't cooked right and brought another batch, that wasn't cooked right either lol salad is solid that unfortunately was the best part of the meal. Was it an off night? Possibly. Would I recommend this to you? Eh, it is one of the only steakhouses in Hemet. Not sure how the others are, maybe if you catch here on a good night. Really great service, the food was good. We took my mom for a Mother's Day treat. They were very attentive

I got the Ribeye, medium rare, with mashed potato's. First one came out well done, and the mash was cold. Had to send it back. Second try came medium, with vegetables. Okay whatever. I need about 15% because I was very hungry. And then every bite I took after that was worse than the last bite. The whole thing was soaked in grease at the bottom of that hot plate that was continuing to cook my steak. Mushrooms were cold. Vegetables was a small portion, the server noticed it and brought me out another bowl of vegetables. After a few bites, I noticed roughly a quarter inch of butter at the bottom of the bowl. I ate about 20% of the meal in it's entirety. I paid my bill, left the server over 20% tip and said merry Christmas. I did let the manager know my thoughts on my meal. She said sorry it's not normally bad. I'm 20 minutes after my meal now as I type. I feel terrible. What a garbage steak. read more

My family and I went today (2:15 Saturday May 1st). The service was terrible. The waitress hardly came to check on us or refill drinks (she did come by once). The food took over 45 minutes to come out to the table. For a $77.00 meal, one would think the service would be better. At one point, I had to ask another waitress to get our check for us and then i had to ask someone else to run the card so we could leave. From the time we got there to the time we left was an hour and a half. Food was ok at best but the service sucked. Unfortunately we will not be back. It was my first time and I could tell right away it was a local favorite, place was packed with families, and we waited just under 30 minutes to be seated as a party of five, which honestly wasn't too bad for a holiday. The steak was tender; the mashed potatoes tasted fresh and the coleslaw was fine, I prefer my cabbage cut smaller. Two days later I ate the rest of my steak and it was still tasty and tender. First off, the strawberry lemonade was really good. We came here because a friend said it was the best steak around he usually goes to the Moreno Valley location. We ordered two ribeyes, both cooked the same way, but they couldn't have been more different. One was juicy, with plenty of juice under the steak. The other? Not juicy at all, almost like it was cooked by a completely different person. The third steak, the Stockyard, was also dry and didn't have any grill marks--it didn't look like it was grilled at all. This steak wouldn't win any "best steak" title in my book. Now I'm really curious--maybe the Moreno Valley location is the better one. I met some friends there for an early dinner,, this restaurant was located in a new area ( well it was new to me ) once I walked inside the place was pretty packed,,( which is a good sign ) I only ordered a basic house salad..... and that's EXACTLY what it was.. no bells no whistles... the lighting inside was "Bright" you could definitely see your food. I ate here for lunch one day while in the area. I ordered the split pea soup with ribeye steak, baked potato and a side of fried shrimp. The meal came with some garlic bread. The split pea soup had great flavor but the soup was odd as it was very viscous and very smooth with no lumps. it appears that it had quite a bit of corn starch in it. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and had decent flavor. The baked potato was good and the garlic bread was great. I didn't love the fried shrimp. The location was OK, the decor was OK and the service was OK. Prices were probably higher than they should have been. Solid three stars. read more

I don't know what they did to my beloved fries. They used to be hot and crispy on the outside and soft potatoes on the inside and now they taste old -- freezer burned-- and hard on the inside, not fun to eat at all. This has happened twice now and they were my favorite steak fries. I don't understand it at all. The server said they might've changed the supplier. I don't know what happened but it's not the same.
