Where do I start?? Got there about 8pm, found 2 seats at the bar with great seating options scattered throughout the dining area. Being my first time I like to gauge the staff/table ratio ti get an idea on wait time for service. While waiting for my friend, I noticed a large table off to the side having drinks and playing a card game. I was impressed seeing that they were consistently getting rounded on by their server. Finding out this was a family run small business made this even more impressive as it was a full house. Additionally, it felt like the entire bar was excitedly watching the FIFA game, which was surprising because the difference in noise level from the outside of the building was significant. From the bar perspective, the bartenders were so kind (A), provided short/sweet conversation and excellent recommendations (A+), AND gave us time to look over the menu without being pushy (A++). I tried the lavender buzz and the oso espresso martini, my girlfriend had a lavender lemonade seltzer both being DELICIOUS. We Comfortable chairs, bathrooms and business were clean, and water is available at any time by the door with a self serve station. Overall, great spot, amazing staff, great variety of beers and seltzers, the pizzas are killer, the nachos were perfect, cocktails were a hit, great space for watching a game or hosting a group apparently, and even better for a date night! Stoked to have a place like The Bear Trap in Big Bear. Already planning our next trip. read more

Made a fishing trip to big bear lake and on the way to the lake this place caught my attention. Simple look outside but the paint and sign really catch your eye. After we wrapped up our fishing session we packed up and double backed to have dinner here. Man, am I glad we did! We had a large group and they were able to accommodate us without a hassle. They had board games and other things to keep the whole family entertained. Evelyn was so on point! She had so much good energy it felt like she was part of our group. The food was delicious and they rolled it out perfect without missing a thing which is impressive for how many were in our group. I was so caught in the moment I didn't take pictures of everything we ordered. I think eating here is going to become part of the big bear fishing tradition moving forward. I was looking for a place to watch the Mexico World Cup match and man am I glad this place popped up. The draft list was maybe the best restaurant beer list I've ever seen. Highland Park Brewing, Trillium, Cellarmaker, and Monkish?!?! How do you choose? The vibes were strong and they had a great drink menu too. The service was so friendly and quick. Was visiting from out of town and the bear trap was right down the road from our condo. The have been open for a little over a year. The staff was extremely friendly. The bartender was helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks. They have a LOT of beers on tap. I tried 3 different ones and they were all good. My wife tried a few of their signature cocktails and they were delicious and refreshing. We met the owner and his brother, they were outgoing and took pride in their work. The food was decent. Nothing spectacular, but the drinks were great. Like the sign says "we are a tap house, not a steak house." If I'm ever back in the area I would definitely stop by again. This is the 3.5 in my eyes, the things that it has going for it is on the outside of town before you hit all the madness. If you're looking for an easy meal with adequate Parking, then it's probably it Now onto the food, $5.50 for a soda is way too high priced in my opinion, yes, its served in a bottle, but still can't warrent that price tag. The rest of the food is OK, my son opted for the chicken tenders and tater tots which came out hot and he said that they were pretty good. I tried to Smashburger with the steak fries, which was good but it's a frozen burger patty and it's hard to cook it to a preferable temperature so it seemed like it was overdone. The fries were great though. I also tried to meat lovers pizza, which was good, but the sauce was canned and it was acidic for sure. Not the best pizza in the world. The people that owned the place were super cool and friendly. The server was also super friendly and helpful which I appreciated. They do not bring water to your table and you have to fill your own water cup at the door which if I'm paying a tip I don't really like Everything here is fried it's bar food. Yes it's a tap room I know but maybe after five beers the food would taste better than if you were sober. I knew this place was here, but hadn't yet made it over for a visit so decided it was high time to check it out. The bear trap seemed like just a basic little spot, but upon further inspection has proved itself to be an excellent place to find some fantastic beers! The food was pretty standard, but the selection of drinks was some of the best I've been able to find in big Bear Lake. We had lunch here before checking into the cabin. The Bear Trap has an outdoor patio which is pet-friendly and we had two of our doggies here. I ordered an OG burger and split that! It comes with two patties and caramelized onions, pickles, melted cheese, and some secret sauce. They have a lot of different types of burgers and we also got wings, tater tots, chicken tenders, and French fries to share with our party of six. They have yummy food here. If you're visiting big bear and want some yummy finger foods and beer they have it here. We tried the garlic bread and the nachos. That was one of the best garlic bread we ever had I love how much garlic they put in every bite. The nachos were really good too my hubby liked how the chicken was seasoned on it. This thing in fact was a monster and very filling; loved the pesto drizzle and the cheesy-ness. I thought the marinara for dipping tasted good as well. Bear Trap Nachos - Nacho cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, choice of chicken or steak. The nachos were huge, good amount of ingredients. The service was great, employees we spoke to were nice and owner Miguel and his family (it's a family affair here) are so great. The parking situation is easy as there is a good sized lot. Stopped here on a whim and we're not disappointed, the smash burger and fries were outstanding. The fries had a good crisp and seasoning. The burger was fresh with a soft potato bun. The Mexican lager was nice and refreshing, wish I could have got a few for home. We had our baby and they were so nice and accommodating to us, we took our stroller inside. This might be difficult if packed but I'm sure they can accommodate you as well. The ambiance's was great, giving a fresh and modern feel . We ate there on Sunday, and it was packed, and the food was delicious, and the selection of craft beers is awesome....BUT..it took over 30 minutes to get our food (after waiting 10 minutes for a table...and when we got in...there were several empty tables). Anyway...chalk it up to understaffed the week of Thanksgiving? The employees were all super friendly, and the grub was great. Also like that they have the games to play (scrabble etc.)...which helped make the wait less of an annoyance. Went back on Wednesday (when I thought they were closed), and enjoyed another lunch. The Bear Trap is an awesome local spot for food/beer, great vibes, and super friendly staff! They are super dog friendly and allow dogs inside as well as on the patio. They even went above and beyond and offered to make our dog a puppy patty which she absolutely loved. The chicken nachos and boneless wings were delicious and the nachos were huge. The Bear Trap Hazy IPA was amazing as well, super smooth and full of flavor. The inside is really well decorated and had a cool modern cabin vibe. 12/10 would highly recommend coming to check out this spot!! read more
