I was looking for a place to watch the Mexico World Cup match and man am I glad this place popped up. The draft list was maybe the best restaurant beer list I've ever seen. Highland Park Brewing, Trillium, Cellarmaker, and Monkish?!?! How do you choose? The vibes were strong and they had a great drink menu too. The service was so friendly and quick. I knew this place was here, but hadn't yet made it over for a visit so decided it was high time to check it out. The bear trap seemed like just a basic little spot, but upon further inspection has proved itself to be an excellent place to find some fantastic beers! The food was pretty standard, but the selection of drinks was some of the best I've been able to find in big Bear Lake. This is the 3.5 in my eyes, the things that it has going for it is on the outside of town before you hit all the madness. If you're looking for an easy meal with adequate Parking, then it's probably it Now onto the food, $5.50 for a soda is way too high priced in my opinion, yes, its served in a bottle, but still can't warrent that price tag. The rest of the food is OK, my son opted for the chicken tenders and tater tots which came out hot and he said that they were pretty good. I tried to Smashburger with the steak fries, which was good but it's a frozen burger patty and it's hard to cook it to a preferable temperature so it seemed like it was overdone. The fries were great though. I also tried to meat lovers pizza, which was good, but the sauce was canned and it was acidic for sure. Not the best pizza in the world. The people that owned the place were super cool and friendly. The server was also super friendly and helpful which I appreciated. They do not bring water to your table and you have to fill your own water cup at the door which if I'm paying a tip I don't really like Everything here is fried it's bar food. Yes it's a tap room I know but maybe after five beers the food would taste better than if you were sober. We had lunch here before checking into the cabin. The Bear Trap has an outdoor patio which is pet-friendly and we had two of our doggies here. I ordered an OG burger and split that! It comes with two patties and caramelized onions, pickles, melted cheese, and some secret sauce. They have a lot of different types of burgers and we also got wings, tater tots, chicken tenders, and French fries to share with our party of six. They have yummy food here. If you're visiting big bear and want some yummy finger foods and beer they have it here. We tried the garlic bread and the nachos. That was one of the best garlic bread we ever had I love how much garlic they put in every bite. The nachos were really good too my hubby liked how the chicken was seasoned on it. The atmosphere paired with the beautiful weather and view of the lake will make this a permanent "must stop" whenever we're in the area. Stopped here on a whim and we're not disappointed, the smash burger and fries were outstanding. The fries had a good crisp and seasoning. The burger was fresh with a soft potato bun. The Mexican lager was nice and refreshing, wish I could have got a few for home. We had our baby and they were so nice and accommodating to us, we took our stroller inside. This might be difficult if packed but I'm sure they can accommodate you as well. The ambiance's was great, giving a fresh and modern feel . You can tell a lot of intricate detail went into planning the interior. The restrooms are nice and clean. After speaking with owners brother, he shared their big dodger fans which is always a plus! The establishment, which is modern and very cool, features both indoor and outdoor spaces; the latter having some lake views. I was in town with a buddy last month and we had stopped in a couple times while staying nearby. We had a nice time and enjoyed the outside patio! Food wise the menu is made up of various shared and small bites (chips and salsa, nachos, wings etc), smash burgers, pizzas and salads. They also have a full bar serving beers (draft/cans/bottled), wines, and various cocktails. We enjoyed the food and some great hazy IPAs. Drink: Bear Trap Hazy - Refreshing, flavorful, good citrus and smoothness to it. Food: The Garlic Ness Bread Monster - Mozzarella, provolone, garlic butter, pesto, house marinara. This thing in fact was a monster and very filling; loved the pesto drizzle and the cheesy-ness. I thought the marinara for dipping tasted good as well. Bear Trap Nachos - Nacho cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, choice of chicken or steak. The nachos were huge, good amount of ingredients. We happened to go on their 1 yr anniversary. Not knowing what we were getting into we had no expectations. They were highly receptive with us sitting right away and having amazing service. The OG smash burger was AMAZING in its own right. I added back and the chop it up so that you have bacon in every bite and one bite won't rob you of an entire strip. The Tots are crispy and the fries perfectly seasoned. Even the beer choices and the ability to get 5 oz to create your own flight is great. Loving this new place...it's literally almost next door to my cabin! I wish they were open every day. We ate there on Sunday, and it was packed, and the food was delicious, and the selection of craft beers is awesome....BUT..it took over 30 minutes to get our food (after waiting 10 minutes for a table...and when we got in...there were several empty tables). Anyway...chalk it up to understaffed the week of Thanksgiving? The employees were all super friendly, and the grub was great. Also like that they have the games to play (scrabble etc.)...which helped make the wait less of an annoyance. Went back on Wednesday (when I thought they were closed), and enjoyed another lunch. Can't say enough about Steven and Aida. I have been to TBT twice with our pup. The service is fantastic and you can't beat the beers. We spent a while talking to Steven on a slow day, and he and his brother hand select every beer they have there. Even though I came back 3 weeks later, the beers have completely changed. We had a great experience at Bear Trap Taproom. We ordered the OG burger along with the chicken tenders and fries, plus chips and salsa. We had ranch, ketchup, and buffalo sauce on the side, and everything was cooked to perfection. The chicken tenders were a standout--perfectly cooked, not overly breaded, and actually full of protein instead of just breading. They paired really well with the sauces and were clearly made with care. The salsa, which is made by the owner's father, was a burst of flavor. The version we tried had a great smoky profile, and knowing it's made seasonally makes us excited to come back and try future variations. The cocktail menu is thoughtfully curated--not overwhelming--with signature cocktails and a rotating beer selection. I ordered the Ol' Smokey Old Fashioned with Buffalo Trace, and it was perfection in a glass. Overall, great food, quality drinks, and a chill, welcoming atmosphere. Odd place. We showed up with 8 people at 2pm, wanted to sit outside and they acted like it was the most insane request they'd ever had. Asked us to "wait in the lobby", the entire restaurant was empty. Didn't let us sit together, 2 separate tables of 4. $4 for a Coke Zero can, $25 for 10 mini wings that were well below average, brewery down the street was significantly better. Probably would be fine if it's 2 people but if you have a group, just go somewhere else, plenty of solid options. read more

My wife had the Lavender Buzz and said it was one of her favorite drinks ever- mind you, we go to speakeasies frequently in OC & LA and she said it was that level. The food was 8/10- my only critique is they don't have a kids menu. However, The kids did enjoy themselves since they had Janga, cards and other games. They said the chicken tenders were amazing. The server, who had happened to be the owner, was very attentive and helpful. We talked craft beer throughout SoCal and gave me a couple tasters of new kegs. Prices: wow! You're prices are too high. My wife ordered "iced tea" - she got a bottle of tea that costs around a dollar at the store - you charged $5.50! Come on, that's insane. Its ridiculous to up charge for the add-ons. 75 centers for ranch with the chicken tenders is absurd. Also 13 dollars for just a burger is too much.. throw some fries in the darn basket for goodness sake. A plate of bagged lettuce is $16 - the "house salad". Why? Because it has croutons? The beer is too expensive - $13 for a 10 once beer? Really? The pizza especially the crust is good - artisan "pies" actually threw my wife and her sister off; they thought it was desert at first. Once I explained, my wife ordered a pizza and salad and enjoyed it. You've got a good thing going on here being in a neighborhood with a lake view (although the patio is noisy with traffic seeing as you're sitting essentially on Lakeview). I suggest some plexiglass along the bottom of the railing to help muffle the sound. Heaters will make a huge difference when the temps get to 60ish (remember you're catering to Flatlanders) as will shade when it's midday and 90. Some advice.. you need to adjust your prices or add some basic perks to the meals because you're going to price yourselves out of business especially with not being closer to the village. The Cowboy did the same thing. You need a niche and selling overpriced food and bar drinks won't get you there. Just being honest because I'd like to see you here next year. read more

This is our second time coming to Big Bear but we never stopped by this place before and I must say that we will be coming back here EVERY time we come into town and get some food for our drive back home to Vegas. I was greeted by the owner Miguel who really welcomed us and made sure we were taken care of. We had our puppy girl with us but so glad they have a pet friendly patio and environment. Miguel introduced us to Ashley who served us during our dine in and Ashley is truly an amazing person. Top notch customer service but to be honest, not once did it feel like customer service to us. Ashley felt like as if she was a long time friend we were reuniting with and visiting after some years. Same goes for Miguel. I hadn't known he was the owner until Ashley mentioned. Just talking with him felt like talking with the boys. Very refreshing experience. The food is so good! I had the momma bear burger and it's definitely a high recommend. The beer batter fries were just nicely seasoned and crispy. I couldn't put my food down. My wife had these nachos and man, those are some mighty nachos! Also really good. Everything on the nachos was perfectly portioned and it never felt like one thing was lacking than the others. Basically each nacho chip bite was just always PACKED. Was in big bear for July 4th long wknd. Had dinner here with my family. They had board games which kept my kids entertained. We played Jenga and connect 4 while we waited for the food. My wife got a mommy burger, which was nicely cooked with fresh veg, I got the bbq smash burger crispy bacon. Very happy with it. Fries hot dog and pizza for the kids all on point. Drinks we started with TBT marg, I asked for mine spicy and less sweet and they delivered. Wifey got a tiki drink on special with coco and guava, very hawaiian. For dessert I had a flight of three beers (they have 24 on tap, yes 24!). Oscuro, TBT hazy, and triple IPA. All good. I was surprised at how smooth and hop-balanced the triple was.
