I was looking for a bbq restaurant while in big bear and found this one and it was a great! I'm assuming this place gets very packed because they were sold out of certain meats. I got the tri tip sliders with Mac and cheese as the side. This plate comes with 3 sliders with a good amount of tri tip in them. The bbq sauce had a hint of spicy and sweet it was very good. They top it off with crunchy onion rings. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy. Service was also very good no complaints! I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Ok for those of you know me - I am a BBQ fiend!! In Big Bear i have tried them all and well folks...if you know most are HORRIBLE examples of BBQ. Well I found the one worthy! And I pigged out!!! So I got the holy trinity - Brisket, Pulled Pork and Tri-Tip (it's a SoCal thing) and we'll let me tell you they all hit and are legit. No sauce cause if it's good ya don't need it - may want it but here ya don't need it. And honestly - their sauces are not my favs. Bold is close but this doesn't need it. Also had most of the sides - I'll break it down 3 Bean Chili - slap yo momma good! Amazing flavor Mac & Cheese - it's good - solid but not perfect. One of the fam had Brisket Mac and well that is a SOLID 10. That brisket is what the mac&cheese needs. Potato Salad - it's good but you have had it before. Awesome side but go for others. I am sure they will amp this up with some special but right now it's picnic worthy. Corn Bread - solid - homemade and the honey butter - nice touch. Cole Slaw - I will be back just to have this on a pulled pork sandwich. They took basic slaw and cranked it up! The cranberry.almond w balsamic add - Genius. Yep I said it!!! But winner winner - get those roles with cinnamon butter. There's another restaurant around that talks about their rolls and butter - well this one beats it hands down and if they let me - I'd smear that stuff on anything!! It's like a poor mans cinnamon roll...freaking off the hook (Sorry Guy - I stole that!!) Look you got lots of options in Big Bear - some better than others but if you are coming up - this is your 1st dinner stop.... And YELPERS DONT RUIN THIS RESTAURANT!! Many of ya are keyboard warriors. This is family run restaurant- if ya have a problem or don't like something - tell them. Dont get all aggressive on here!! Have seen many places disappear up here in Big Bear that were good but because of Yelp and the tourist keyboard anger kill them. I am looking to come here for the next 20 years!! This place has amazing BBQ, like competition level bbq and attention to detail. Great beers, bourbons, and BBQ. Seasoned popcorn while you wait. Sampler plater is the Texas Charcuterie board and I love it. Maybe a few cheeses to put it over the top, but damn near perfect. Mac and cheese? Pitch perfect. Corn bread? Amazing. Honestly I'd drive back up the mountain for just that honey butter corn bread. So, if you're still trying to figure out where to have BBq in Big Bear, I can tell you that this is the spot! I took some food recommendations from Yelp and Google. To see what was best, of course the people were right. I shared 1 large plate with the two meat the one brisket and one rib. They are quickly accommodating can't have the cinnamon butter or rolls. Sauce on the side. They quickly replaced it. So got beans salad and potato. Our server was hunter and the chef came out and greeted us. Lovely chat and talk. Sorry can't remember the name. Place is cozy and cute and very well priced. read more

The coleslaw at a BBQ joint will tell you everything about how good the BBQ will be. One of the best coleslaws in my opinion I've ever had, not your typical, but was a hitter and don't get me started on the Jalapeño cream corn!!! Wow Such a nostalgic item that I've never seen at any restaurant. They took it to a whole new level. My mouths watering just thinking about it. I got too full with apps (tri tip sliders - also excellent) to get to a main entree. Will def be back. Talked with the owner at the bar and he's super knowledgeable on his BBQ. With so many 5-star reviews I expected some great BBQ, but what we got can hardly pass as BBQ. I got the half rack of baby back ribs and my wife got the brisket. Baby Back Ribs: The ribs still had the membrane on the back, no smoke ring (that I could detect), and were so salty I could only eat two. All the "smoke" flavor came from the sauce rather than the meat, and it tasted like dirty smoke (or liquid smoke, which seems more likely given the lack of a smoke ring on the ribs). Brisket: You could get arrested in Texas for serving this and calling it brisket! The meat was shredded rather than served properly in slices. Generally, when you order brisket at a BBQ joint you get a slice from the point and one from the flat, but here you get a pile of shredded meat and fat. I could not detect any smoke in the brisket, nor could I see a smoke ring on the shreds that came from the outside. It was dry and tasted like pot roast. Service: We were seated right away, and they brought us some popcorn. However, it took way too long to serve our food. Our server told us it would only take a couple minutes (which is normal for BBQ), but 10 minutes later she reassured us that they were plating our food. Another 10 minutes passed and we finally got our food. After serving our food the server asked if we needed anything else. I replied that we would need more paper towels since there were only 3 left on the roll. Instead of bringing us more, she replied that she'd just keep an eye on our roll. Well, it's a good thing I could only eat 2 ribs, because those 3 towels didn't last long. When we didn't eat much of our food, the server sent the manager(?) out to talk to us. We explained that the ribs were too salty and the brisket was too dry. Instead of apologizing (and maybe offering to discount our food), he told us that he had just tried the brisket and it was great and that they were just voted the top BBQ place in Big Bear. Why not just be humble and take ownership of the situation? read more

You can tell the business owner cares so much about giving his customers a great experience. The Beef Short Ribs were so good & the Chicken spicy Mac n Cheese was SOO GOOD it kinda tastes similar to chic fil a mac n cheese in a rlly good way. They put a sauce over it that resembles the chic fil a polynesian sauce in taste. They serve their plates with a bread and a homemade cinnamon butter cream. The workers were so friendly, brought us napkins, helped everyone kinda seating, & asked us if we were enjoying everything very frequently. One of the best Bbq places I have been to. The baby back ribs are phenomenal. We try a new thing each time we go in and they are always coming up with new and creative items. Just had the brisket and shredded pork and our friends had the brisket with the tri-tip which we all shared they make their own custom barbecue sauces and sides. Not sure what style BBQ this is, but a brisket served in long stringy cuts is not very appealing. Brisket spaghetti. And the food! Oh, the food! My family loves BBQ, and it is one of the best BBQ dinners we have ever had. My son had the Brisket Mac n Cheese, and he practically ate with his eyes closed. I had a bite and admit that I stole a few more bites, no boxed stuff here. We ordered the Large platter with brisket, pulled pork, onion rings, apple sauce, and dinner rolls with cinnamon butter. The meats were so tender and juicy. While I am impartial towards brisket, the pulled pork was interesting in a great way. There was this aroma that stayed after you finished the bite that was so fragrant. I love Funyuns, and I felt like the onion rings were the fresh version but better. I generally do not eat dinner rolls, but I figured I needed something to go with the cinnamon butter. Yeah. I could have eaten the butter by the spoonful. The rolls were so soft and sooooo good. The rolls and butter were perfect. I also generally do not eat apple sauce, but it was a side. I could not resist, and I was not disappointed. The cinnamon in the apple sauce reminded me of my childhood. Steinerhaus will be a favorite place to go when we are up in Big Bear. read more
