Very homey feeling when walking in and the staff was super friendly. The only thing is, the food could've used more seasoning.

When we arrived, the line was really long, even though I had called ahead and was told there was no wait. We still had to put our name on the list, but to their credit, we were seated within a few minutes. The place was definitely crowded and loud. I ordered water and coffee, and my friend just got water. A staff member brought the drinks but ended up spilling the coffee all over the table and menu. He just said, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I figured he would come back to clean it up, but he didn't. I had to flag him down to ask for napkins. Instead of helping, he just dropped off a stack. It was a lot of coffee, four napkins were soaked. Thankfully, our server Paris turned things around. She was super friendly and had great personality. I asked her for a recommendation between the breakfast burrito and the Belgian waffle. She suggested the burrito, and it did not disappoint. My friend got the country fried steak (which Paris said was the best in town), and he was also craving a pancake, so they let him sub that in for toast. Service started off rocky, but Paris made the experience better. I probably would not return to sit down but I would order take out.

Sad to say had a different experience this go round. Glad to see so many people coming to this place but unfortunately service and food have taken the hit. Staff was courteous n friendly but overwhelmed. Had to go up and get bill after waiting awhile and food was overcooked. Don't get me wrong food still ok but not like our last visit.

First timers driving by from out of town. OMGOSH pancakes. I was looking for good ones and I definitely found them. Hubby really enjoyed the CFS. It's his go to when we stop into wonderful places like this. Potatoes done exactly as asked, coffee..YES PKEASE keep this wonderful taste comin'. Wait staff...10/10. Very kind friendly and knowledgeable. What we need more of everywhere. We will be back. Oh...saw onions-had to taste onion rings. DELICIOUS! We will be back when in town again.

I thought it was good but not great. First time trying pops cafe with some friends and we weren't sure whether to try the huevos rancheros so I went safe and ordered corned beef hash... I asked the lady if it's made in house and she said yes but ... definitely Did not taste like it. Maybe I did not ask the question the right way haha but yeah it didn't taste like something they made or look that way either. I've had homemade corned beef hash and this def was not it. My friend got their pork chorizo plate and the beans were def canned also. The country fried steak also did not taste like something they made themselves. The price for these plates were about $17+ each. The pancakes on the other hand were great! We loved the pancakes a lot! That's where they get there 3 stars from me. I heard this place gets pretty packed and you seat yourself. Service was good though. Friendly people. The food was just ok. Thankful for those pancakes though...

Very good service! Food was good nothing special about it. The inside was loud like any breakfast restaurant. The walls have old license plates from different states and countries. We were charged for an extra coffee which and also they charged us more than the bill amount. When they swiped the credit card it was .93 cents more than what the food receipt said. I didn't read anywhere if they charge to pay for credit card or did they warn me but I figured that's what it was.

My boyfriend recommended me this mom and pop shop. We tried coming here a couple times but the wait was insane! We tried one more time on Valentine's Day and we waited for about 30-45 minutes, considering the date, it wasn't too bad! The portions are hefty and the waiter was patient and polite.

Pop's is a longtime local favorite in Downey. It provides excellent service, good food and reasonable prices. It won't break the bank to take the family out for breakfast! I've explored much of the menu, but I always return to their famous pancakes! They are enormous, fluffy, and have that perfect, old-fashioned hotcake flavor that other spots just can't match. The BLT on rye or sourdough is another standout: a classic sandwich absolutely piled high with super crispy, perfectly cooked bacon. If you're looking for genuine, quality food and a great atmosphere, make a special trip to Pop's!

Downey on the map! What a cute and yummy little hidden diner. I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this place! Simple inside with great food and numerous choices. The waitstaff was amazing and they were so friendly. They suggested a few items and they were right. This place gets packed especially on the weekends. They have limited space and they are not open for many hours. Be prepared to wait. It is well worth it though.

Best Homemade breakfast in town!!!! I love the breakfast here it is soooo amazing, good food, and cheap. The wait on the weekens might be a little long but it is definetly worth it. I discovered this place about 3 years ago and I always recomend it to people. They have amazing pancakes and they are hugeeeee!!!! Not the worst place for breakfast, but a little overpriced for over cooked steak and soggy waffles (cooked fruit on a Belgian waffle instead of fresh....seriously) the only upside was that my son's chicken nuggets were perfect. Don't think it's worth the wait for a second trip. read more

I first discovered " POPS CAFE " years ago on Firestone Blvd and Paramount across from Norms Resturant. My wife & I love this place so much we followed them to their new location on Florence and Rives. My wife loves there Pork Chop & Eggs , Irish Potato. and great coffee I like there chicken fried steak with eggs and hash brown. Its a cozy place but you get your moneys worth. It smells right. The place looks like something for 1970. Clean organized. Great food and very friendly staff. There's two national chains within the same block. Don't stop for pie. Go straight to Pops a real family cafe. read more

I am so happy I have finally found an excellent breakfast place for my Sunday mornings! The chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy are the best. When you first get there, go inside straight to the cashiers counter and put your name down on the list with the amount in your party. And then go stand outside and wait for them to call your name. Trust me, they go through that list quickly! They have really short hours: Tues-Sun from 7am - 3pm...but I guess that's the price you pay for quality! read more

Had it just this morning. It was my first time here . Great little spot didn't even know it existed my BFF lives down the block and I've never really noticed it . Anyway, food was pretty good. I had to try the new York steak and eggs with hashbrowns and 2 pancakes. The steak I got it well done & it was sooo good. Hashbrowns, well they were just hashbrowns so they weren't bad nor the best thing ever. Just good. The eggs I asked for them over easy but I got one over easy and the second one kinda cooked all the way . Like yo wtf? My egg -.- I tried the coffee which I really liked. GREAT LITTLE SPOT. Good coffee, pretty fast service, lively open setting, but long food time delivery and subpar quality of food. We had the Denver omelette- it was a fried egg patty with the ingredients on the inside. The top had one slice of packaged cheddar cheese. I also asked for the Irish potatoes but got hash browns with grilled peppers and onions on top. Wifey got the French toast - grilled not deep fried (!) - and said they were decent. The pork sausage was burnt and dry. read more

I have been eating breakfast at Pop's Cafe for years but today I tried their dinner menu. After being stuck in traffic, it was great to find out that Pop's is open late. The part that set this visit apart was their vegan selections on the menu. I ordered the veggie bowl and it exceeded my expectations. My daughter ordered the veggie burger and it wad great as well. Wanted to try something new for breakfast, other than: Denny's, Norms & McDonalds...so I logged onto Yelp and found Pop's Cafe! Close by home and will soon be a weekend regular. Irish potatoes are great. Every meal you get is absolutely fulfilling (promise!). Boyfriend had the Corn beef hash (great also) & we shared a HUGE waffle...delicious. Highly recommended. The food was ok, nothing that exceeds expectations. The pancakes are huge, bacon...crispy, too crispy for my taste. I probably wouldn't come back seeing as I receive better service at Denny's. I have eaten at Pop's for several years now and find their breakfasts have always been consistently great. I especially like the mushroom omelette with swiss cheese. I often have biscuits and gravy, which are well done and sometimes regular toast. Coffee flows freely, always very crowded for breakfast. Wish there was more parking available but worth the wait. Best local breakfast in my opinion. The "A" restaurant doesn't compare. read more

Everything looked and tasted delicious! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, short rib omelette, tropical pancakes (seasonal), and the mango curd french toast (seasonal). The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I wish it was a main menu item. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. They have lots of seating inside and outside.

They don't offer outside seating anymore as some of the pictures show. Parking was a bit challenging since this location is shared with other businesses.

My first initial thought walking into Chicken Koop is that it has calm party vibe... the reason I say this is because through our whole time in the restaurant, they were playing a lot of my favorite songs. For a second, I thought my phone had connected to their speakers, lol! Pictured below is the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the 1/2 Roasted Chicken Plate. The Friend Chicken Sandwich was so juicy and flavorful; the breaded chicken patty had a perfect crunch to it. The 1/2 Roasted Chicken Plate was also another delicious and great choice. The chicken was cooked perfectly- again no dry chicken and it was juicy w a crunchy outer skin. The Brussels sprouts can out perfectly as well.

Seating: There are both indoor and outdoor seating options, and the bar is partially outdoors. Outdoor Vibe: The outdoor area is covered, but keep in mind there is no AC, so it can get quite warm. I'm glad I checked it off the list, but I didn't leave feeling like I needed to return.

Pops Café is a true hidden gem! I decided to bring my mom along for breakfast. Even though it was a busy morning and we had a short wait, it was absolutely worth it. The food was fantastic! The biscuits and gravy were some of the best I've ever had! They were rich, flavorful, and perfectly comforting. My mom went with the country fried steak, which was seasoned beautifully with a crispy golden crust and a tender, flavorful interior. The coffee was another highlight. Fresh, hot, and constantly refilled with a smile. The atmosphere is just as inviting as the food. Pop's is another local Downey spot that I adore. My brother lives about five minutes away from this spot, and I love visiting him in the mornings and heading out to eat breakfast at Pop's, The atmosphere inside is homey and very welcoming. The servers are very kind and patient and loving joking around. The pancakes are unbeatable, and the coffee is amazing as well. Prices are pretty good for what you're getting. Free refills on the coffee as well. The kids also love it here! They love having breakfast with their tio. My brother and I love it here, and I hope others will come and visit this wonderful hole in the wall spot. Pops Cafe is definitely a local gem! The food is consistently great, and while I enjoy dining in, I mostly do carry out and every order is always spot on. Nothing is ever missing, and if I ask for extra of anything, it's always included. The staff is friendly, and the owner is genuinely one of the coolest peopleI can't remember his name, but he's what makes this place so humble and welcoming. He recently opened a new spot called Pops Wings, and I'm wishing him all the success he's worked so hard for it's well deserved. I've been coming here for over 10 years, and it's always been a reliable, top-notch experience. Highly recommend! read more

One of my favorite places to eat! Hands down the best Breakfast in town! I love the homey environment and the homemade food, it's as if you are eating Grandma's cooking. So I stopped by this morning for my favorite deep fried French toast and over heard the waitresses talking about Pop's being open for dinner soon! I am sooo excited thought I'd share the great news with my fellow yelpers! Long story short, I asked when they think dinner will open and they said around the week of June 1st 2017. I can not wait to come by and try out their dinner menu, if it is anything close to their breakfast and lunch it will be amazing! read more

Always nice to find hidden gems. I was on the lookout for a family friendly place to eat breakfast with great food and Pop's Café definitely has it. I'm usually not one to wait around for breakfast however the line outside Pop's seemed to be moving at a decent pace so I decided to stay and try it out. I am sure glad I did as their eggs benedict were amazing and went well with their delicious Irish potatoes. Usually in places like these you either get great food with mediocre service or mediocre food with great service, Pop's I'm glad to say has both amazing food and service. Will definitely be stopping by again. read more

First time here read a lot of reviews about long lines and having to wait a bit for a table but we just walked right in and sat at the only table open lol which i guess if we would've been here 2 min later we would've waited!! Right away drink orders were taken within 5 min Ordered the deep fried french toast breakfast and my buddy ordered a pancake breakfast.. I kid you not 5 min later our food was out i was like wth lol The food tasted just as well as it looked.. Delicious! Great at home feeling with excellent service!! Amazing service with a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Our meals were delivered in reasonable time and they were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the eggs Benedict with the crunchy potatoes. I would've added a picture but was halfway through the plate when I remembered Jose was always checking in and asking if we needed anything. Even when we'd first said no he asked if we were interested in the house salsa and brought some when it piqued our interest. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back! Pop's Cafe is a gem of a restaurant that my family and I frequent every Sunday. We always order the country fried steak, eggs Benedict, and French toast, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I recently had breakfast at Pop's Cafe all by myself, and it was a different but delightful experience. This small family-owned place has limited hours, closing by mid-day, but the food is worth it. I ordered the classic country meal: biscuits and gravy, hash browns, eggs, and a sausage patty sandwich. It was the ultimate comfort food. And their iced coffee is the best I've ever had. i've had better. thought it it would be a friendly cafe seeing as it is family owned, but...no. it wasnt. when we walked in the waitress grunted sarcastically "sit. wherever." we were handed sticky, well-worn menues. we saw our server approximately two more times: once to take our order, then to deliver our order. food was not great, not bad. just average. i ordered an omelette, my husband steak and eggs with sausage. the sausage was not appetizing. read more

Its been a year now i got introduced to this place and by far the absolute best pancakes i have even eaten. I have tried almost everything on the menu and i cant say anything bad about the food. My favorite plate is the beef machaca, comes with home made beans and rice. And the salsa is to die for!. The cafe was bustling when I arrived, but I was promptly seated. I opted for the Beef Machaca dish and a side of pancakes. The serving size was generous, and the Machaca had a delightful flavor.
