Easily the best fish and chips I've ever had, and it's clear why they've been in business for so long. I also tried some dishes that are less popular with tourists: whitebait (similar to French fries, but made with tiny whole white fish) and cod roe (battered and deep-fried caviar). Both were something completely new to me and absolutely delicious.

My friend recommended Poppies as a very popular place to get really good fish and chips. I found the fish to be very dry. I only had about 3 bites and left the rest. My friends thought the ends were good but the middle, which is the part I ate, was dry. The chicken pot pie, however, was very good. I would choose somewhere else to get authentic London Fish and Chips.

Cute fish and chips shop that was actually open late. Came for a late night snack of fish and chips and a side of mushy peas. It was very quiet and most of the cases with meat pies on display were sold out. Loved the historic old school vibe of this place. Since this was just a snack we only had one order for a party of four. The servers didn't judge us and were super friendly. Also, the ketchup comes in the cutest little container. All the details about this place were so heartwarming and really transported you to another place.

I fell to the hype only to be let down. Wasn't that great. Small portion, heavy bill. Good but not £33 worth.

Large Haddock (out of Cod) $$$$ very good

Bright shiny penny, lovely polite staff, clean & welcoming...but the fish & chips were average, they were out of the large order of Cod & we only could choose the Haddock (which seems to be a common theme) I was shocked actually at the prices..However, we enjoyed our time sitting & relaxing after miles of walking & appreciated that it is a touristy attraction. I think if the fish & chips were more like 18 bucks vs 28, the review would be 5 stars.

Staff were friendly and very attentive. As of 630pm on a Saturday night the cod was sold out. The haddock was pretty good, mushy pees an additional 3.5.

Poppies was a cool place to stop at. Food was decent here and the vibe was cool. I liked the diner aesthetic. Service was great here too - our food came out super fast. I got the fried haddock dinner and chips. It was pretty good but a bit bland. The chips were nice and thick. The mushy peas were decent too. Overall, I would come back here, the ambiance was super cool. Fun to get served such a big piece of fish too :)

This was exactly what we were looking for! We wanted some traditional fish and chips, and so we headed to poppies. Unfortunately, they were out of cod, and so we had the haddock, but it turned out to be delicious anyway. The chips (fries) we're delicious, crispy, and the fish was crispy all around. Two of the kids had the sausages which were actually really really good. We tried the jellied eel, which I'm sure was very well done, but wasn't for us. The salad came with only olive oil so be aware of that. And the calamari came with only 4 pieces and wasn't all that good. If you're looking for traditional, delicious, fish and chips, this is the place but stick with the fish and chips.

Yelp! First time in London and Everybody suggest, YOU GOT TO GET THE FISH AND CHIPS. So, we see POPPIES. First off, we in Camden market and you crowded. Everybody wants this fish. It's 1:00pm and you are out of all large and fish bites. FOLKS IN LONDON BE EATING. As a party of 4, we decide on 2 fish and chips, And they out of cod, so we get the Haddock. Soooo good!! Delicious! Everybody happy, we tore it up. Your malt vinegar with this old ship to shore decor is a sure fire. Thanks for your service. By far the best fish and chips on my visit.

Definitely a must do when you find yourself in City Center of London. Everything about the staff and the place makes it worth the trip. The fish (cod or haddock) was served quickly, hot and fresh. Great people watching too. Do yourself a favor and make the trip!

I heard that this restaurant was the restaurant to find great fish and chips. I am glad that I looked at reviews because I was able to make a reservation prior to going. The reservation is highly encouraged since the place is tiny. There's a lot of takeaways, but also people waiting for a table. You can see the cooks making the fish and the display of food made from the entrance. They have fish and chips and a few other items like pies. For the fish and chips, you get to choose the fish of your liking. We were going to share it so we ordered a large fish plate. It was definitely large. I decided on the haddock for the fish. It was perfectly seasoned. My friend had the cod. I think it would get the cod instead of the haddock if I went back. The fries were delicious. They were thick. The tartar sauce was good and it comes in a cute little jar. I shares the pickled eggs and onions. They were pretty strong. It definitely opened my sinuses. The Cornish vegetable pasty was tasty and big enough to have it as a meal. They do sell beer, wine and cocktails. I had wine. Service was fast and the waitress was friendly.

This was just around the corner from our Air bnb so we decided to try it out. I ordered fish and chips and a sticky toffee pudding for desert. The fish wasn't the greatest but the chips were good. I enjoyed the pudding. The server we had was great she was very friendly and helpful.

You can do better than this spot, which is a tourist trap through and through. Sadly, I was deceived by the cute awning outside. Regular fish supper with cod was shareable and fine.

Fast forward a half hour or so and in came lots of hipster-types with their oversized black-rimmed specs and skinny-jeans, fast-forward another hour or so and in came the over-dolled up ladies. I popped to the loo only to find myself walking through an area completely different from the bar front. I started wondering if I'd walked into a Wetherspoons by accident. It smelt like disinfectant and cheap aftershave and was full of old men and angry-looking young ones. And then I was back in the front bar surrounded by bimbos and "men" (read: boys) with hair like they'd just stuck their finger in a live socket. ... dear lord I'm getting old... Still, the house wine wasn't bad and I had a couple to drown out the sad reality of the situation.

The bar area is really big, so it is ideal for large groups, and pretty central to all the other places in the area. A plus is also the huge neon sign outside makes it easy to spot. We only had drinks, but the food that came out looked really good. I had pleanty of opportunity to see it, as the barman also acted as waiter. His waiting seemed seemed to be his priority, as I had to wait patiently at the bar, as he kept disappearing to get more meals from the kitchen. At least I knew I would be the next person to be served, as I was the only person waiting at the bar. The drught beer selection seemd to be sewn up by the Camden Brewery, although they had one draugh lager alternative in Estrella Damm, which was my choice. On going to the toilets downstairs, I saw a huge function room, which I understand is a populr disco. Despite appearing invisible for several minutes, I would come back here. It had a nice laid-back atmosphere. Although I'm talking about a Sunday afternoon. I'm sure it's a totally different stoty on a Friday por Saturday evening.

I walked in, looked at the menu and asked for Plaice and chips. I was told in a terse sentence there was no Plaice. Cod only. Hmmm. He pulled out the piece of fish sitting in the warming cabinet. It had been there long enough for the bottom to get soggy. The chips weren't much better. The fish was cooked well, it had just been waiting for a customer for too long.
