Poppies is a chain restaurant. This location is located at the Camden Markets. Ambiance was a 1950's feel with the decor of props and memorabilia. We ordered of course - Fish (Haddock) & Chips. It was really good and fresh! The homemade tartar sauce was amazing! Service was great and attentive!

Whimsical store with lots of 1950s and old English style decor. The box was cute and even the bag was designed like newspaper wrap. I enjoyed the cod and chips. Came out piping hot and batter was light and fish flaky. I took one Star as they didn't provide any tartar sauce. It was a solid fish and chips shop.

We loved this spot! The batter on the fish is light, really highlights the fish and quality. Homemade tartar sauce was delicious. Calamari seemed high quality but very few pieces. Staff is not the friendliest. Had to ask for extra sauce or more water multiple times to several different people to get it done. Very few smiles... Diner style location. Would recommend if service isn't important!

Food: great, crispy fish & chips in London (Camden Town) with your choice of Haddock, Cod, Halibut and a very light crispy breading Service: great, timely service & freshly made Design: interiors is a 1950s style diner with old historic art, props & memorabilia Overall: if you want the best fish & chips in London, then you gotta try this place out; plus the ambience in the Camden Town location has a great 1950s vibe, which makes the experience even better

Excellent cod fish! The service was really good and the decor being upstairs with a view was really nice. The chips are a little dry but good. I wish they gave you more tartar sauce instead of the time jar.

If I ever, and most likely I will, can come back to London for just one thing. It would be for all the fantastic markets, and to get Fish & Chips from Poppies. Located in a bustling area that is Camden Market, you can easily get lost in all of the things to see, eat, and do. But if you're looking for a great meal that's well worth the portion size and price. Then look no further than Poppies. Has a very 80s old school classic vibe. Very casual dining. Be careful of which entrance you go through. The door on the left of the restaurant is for dine-in and the door on the right is for take out orders. Greeted and seated immediately upon entering, I haven't had a place with better service in quite a while. Servers were super nice and made the best recommendations for a good lunch. Wife and I chose to go with the Haddock Fish and Chips. Best choice ever. The size alone was amazing, but the deep fried batter and crunch of the fish was even better. The meat was so tenderly cooked, it would just melt in your mouth. Definitely ask for extra tarter sauce. Chips was great as well. We could barely finish our food, the portion amount is a lot. This was a pleasant surprise to find on our trip to London and the Camden market. I will always recommend Poppies to anyone I know visiting the area. Thanks again for the amazing food and experience!

Also while in the Camden area I wanted to try the Fish and Chips which are featured here. This place had a very 1950's American diner vibe along with a view from my seat of hot dogs in water in heated kitchen counter area. Now, my favorite is the Mayfair Chippy for Fish and Chips. This place comes in a close second and gets points for longevity. The service was good and quick but not hurried. They serve the Fish & Chips with homemade tartar in cute little reusable jars (good for the environment!). I read the history on the menu and it sounds like quite a story. I'm always glad to support locally owned small businesses and especially ones that have been around for a long time. Go Pops! Give this place a try. If you don't like Fish & Chips, you could always have a boiled hot dog here!

Not bad at all! Fish and chips was pretty massive, fish was flavoured well enough - not the best fish and chips I ever had. If you're starving, get it but if you want good fish and chips go somewhere else.

Poppies seem like a pretty popular spot and there is one that is located in Camden Town. This is a place that sells your traditional fish and chips. Ordered a grilled codfish in small size when I came here for dinner because the large was sold out. Overall even the small size is actually pretty big. I ordered the grilled version because I don't want it to be fried but they do have that option and I think many people do order this fish fried. I like the option of being able to choose and the fish itself was super tasty! Service was one of the best that we have had on this vacation trip! We also ordered a beef pie as well to try it out and that was pretty flavorful and the crust on the outside was nice and crisp. If you are looking for a pretty tasty fish and chip place I would totally recommend this spot for sure and they have other locations all around London as well.

If you're in Camden and need a fixing of fish and chips, this is the place to stop at.

I saw a recommendation for Golden Union, and so we made our way over there for lunch towards the latter half of our trip. The place itself is unsuspecting but ended up being actually very cute when we went inside. The neon signs and vintage furniture make it feel cozy. The staff themselves were also very welcoming. We sat down and were handed menus and waters. I decided to split the haddock and chips with my friend while my other friends got their own portion of cod and chips. Everything was pricey, but it is London. The waitress was also very engaging and friendly since she noticed we were tourists and also helped one of my friends with his journey to try British tea for the first time. Overall, she was so sweet. Despite not having crazy high expectations, the haddock and chips was incredible. The fish was soft, and the chips were fresh and not oily at all. It felt very fresh, and I finished my portion feeling very satisfied. My friends let me try their cod, and the cod was also fantastic--very buttery. The haddock is definitely my favorite though. The server was nice enough, being willing to change our seating from the high bar tables to a shorter more family-style table which was appreciated. We primarily ordered the cod and chips and one order of fish cakes. The cod and chips were $20. Huge piece of fish, which would have been nine - but I didn't care for the fishy, bland cod at all. Seriously, I couldn't eat more than a fork full. The smell and taste just weren't for me. We also tried the cheesecake and ice cream. Nope, didn't like the cheesecake either... it was warm (I'm used to cold cheesecake) and not very sweet. Yep, another $8 wasted, although I will say that the vanilla ice cream was fine. The server seemed busy, with another server often coming to help us...although the restaurant wasn't really busy. So, if you are visiting from the U.S. - I'd probably recommend you try another spot.

Also, I was pleased to read that they had vegan fish! The kid and husband shared some regular fish and chips and I had the vegan variety. I think the kid and husband liked their selection quite all right, but it wasn't anything stupendous. Like, it didn't "beat" any of the fish and chips they previously had in the United States but we didn't expect it to. My vegan fish was a tad creepy, not going to lie, but that's likely because I don't often consume vegan fish. It had a flaky texture, attempting to be reminisce of fish with a slight seafoody flavor. It was served with tartar sauce, which I assumed was not vegan, so I opted for ketchup. The chips were decent short chunky bites of potato. I decided to take my leftovers back to the hotel and as you might expect, they were not very delectable once they were cold, hah.
