Food was ok, but don't try to make reservations. I Googled their website and an option for making a reservation came up. I selected it and called the restaurant for confirmation. When I called a guy told me that they only do call ahead and that "they never asked for the Google reservation system, it just comes up". I then asked to be put on the call ahead list and was told my reservation was all set. Got there a few minutes before the requested time and was told they didn't have a reservation for me but they'd seat me in a few minutes. Essentially, I was put on the call ahead list when I walked in the door and ended up waiting 45 minutes for a first available seat. Food definitely not worth the aggravation. And why does a restaurant that doesn't take reservations have these at the host stand (see pic)?? read more

I had eaten here a few years ago and the food was awful so my wife and I haven't tried it since. But wanting something different and being around Popovers, I decided to give it strike two and three all in one go. I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised. I got the smoked chill wings and the Reuben. My wife got the chicken quesadilla to share and a chicken sandwich. The chicken wings were okay. The smoke flavor was good but they weren't tossed in enough of the chili sauce. The reuben was well done, though the corned beef was a bit dry, the chicken sandwich was well grilled and moist and the quesadilla was well flavored. Overall I'm glad we gave it another shot and we'll definitely keep on going. read more

I wish I could tell y the food was good. I have no idea if it is. My mom and I went in and no one came to our table for 20 minutes and no one even looked at us. Also there was very loud live music, (the guys was actually super talented... I enjoyed it!) but it was way way too loud. Came in for lunch once, so this might be updated when I go back again. I bought the Chipolte Ham & Pork Panini with an iced tea. The panini was warm and tasty, the iced tea was cold and refreshing. Prices were on the higher end, so I can't see myself visiting too often. We bought a sweet when we left, which was a little on the high end as well but very rich. The staff was wonderful. Very professional, attentive, and fast with service, the pastry chef was very friendly too. On the way out, I left my keys at the table, and luckily one of the busboys picked them up and held them for me while I was freaking out in the parking lot. The atmosphere of this place is nice. It is bright, clean, and not too noisy. You can expect a wait if you hit it at peak meal times and there isn't much room to stand/sit while waiting without feeling like you're constantly in the way of the hostess and servers. I tried the pick two with a half sandwich of the BLT and the clam chowder. The chowder is everything I'd expect from this New England staple: creamy, big pieces of clam, and vegetables. The BLT was more disappointing. Its served on a multigrain ciabatta-type roll, which, when toasted gets really dry. Even though it had mayo on it, the sandwich was still just too dry. Take for instance this week, the grilled cheese with pulled pork and pineapple sandwich - the thing was amazing and unfortunately one week only. The wine list is small but very good. Great ambiance sitting outside when the weather is nice. Friendly service and good management that's responsive to requests. The loyalty program is also a good deal. You have to pay $5 for the loyalty card - but they pre-load it with $10 credit. We came here for breakfast. A party of six we knew we would have to wait on a Sunday at 10am. We were told 20 minutes and they were pretty accurate, we waited 25 minutes. None of us have had breakfast here before, only popovers and desserts. We really did like it. My bf had the egg filled popover with bacon and I had the breakfast wrap. Both were delicious. My friend and I didn't choose to dine in today, though their screened-in patio area did look very comfy! For a snack, I tried their homemade fruit tart which was exceptional. All their baked goods looked super tasty as a matter of fact. I did have a not-so-great experience with the cappuccino that I ordered. For some reason, it tasted very bitter, almost burnt and without the foamy richness of a traditional cappuccino. The interior is nothing magical (I get an upscale Denny's vibe), but very pleasant. The selection of baked goods looks really tasty, and there is plenty of variety in everything from intriguing apps to specialty iced teas. My friend had been there before, and swears by the chicken quesadilla, which she makes into two full meals. I ordered the "deviled eggs of the day," which were buffalo (3.5 stars) and a salad with pesto, chicken and a giant popover! I'm happy to report that the popover was the star of the show for me ... which makes total sense. Loved this place. Firstly: Great service. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Although my friend was terribly late, my server didn't ignore me while I waited. She checked on me every so often to see if I would like to order while waiting. She also didn't laugh in my face when I ordered a Shirley Temple as an adult. **I even got extra cherries** Secondly: Get the buffalo chicken dip. Get the buffalo chicken dip. Get the buffalo chicken dip. There is more bread than dip, but damn ... yum. Thirdly: Great food. Nothing was "meh". It was all delicious, as in lick-your-plate-clean delicious. I'll admit it...I'm a tough critic of food and service. I've cooked professionally and traveled widely and like to think I know what constitutes a good restaurant. When I stopped at Popovers my expectations weren't high. It was a cold, rainy and gray day and I had spent much of the morning outdoors trying to work, without much success. I wanted something to eat and not just fast food. I saw the sign for Popovers and decided to give them a try - again with no great expectations, but hope for at least half-decent. The restaurant is clean and bright. I was quickly greeted and seated. My server arrived almost immediately, took my drink order for ice tea and returned quickly. I needed time to review the menu, so she stepped aside, but kept an eye on me and returned as soon as it was clear I was ready to order. I ordered a salad of spinach, goat cheese, maple glazed berries (something new to me) and a large popover with maple butter. The meal came quickly and was very attractive. More important, it was a great meal! The salad was clearly fresh without the "pre-made" taste so common in restaurants. The popover with maple butter is very good and comforting on a nasty weather day. My server was observant without being intrusive. I was very impressed with the food and the service. My husband and I decided to grab lunch here and it was the worst decision we ever made. We weren't greeted and the host didn't seem to care if we were there. After 30mins of being seated, other customers who were there after us were served, meanwhile my husband and I never even got asked if we wanted a beverage. I went here to pick up a lunch order I placed online 30 minutes prior. When I got there I had to wait an extra 10 minutes in line just to pick up my food. I ordered a BLT with provolone and some waffle fries. The waffle fries were cold and soggy when I opened the box. The BLT had Mayo on it when I specifically asked for no Mayo. Ah Popovers.....a CLASSIC and solid choice (both the Portsmouth and Epping locations). A ton of parking since it's in a marketplace, which detracts a bit when dining on the summertime patio, but a cozy space inside. Make sure you put your name in when you get there!! The wait can be anywhere from 15-45min. Owner is SUPER nice and our server this past visit (Karen) was a sweetheart. So we've parked, put our name in, and have cosied up in our booth.......let's order! Husband ordered up the special (short rib mac'n'cheese $14) while I stuck with a mid-morning classic: deviled eggs (x3 halves for $4). While mini-popovers were included in our order, it was a unanimous agreement that full-sized pastry was in order (along with that maple butter - YUMMMM). Orders came out swiftly (one brunch beverage-worth of time) and was absolutely scrumptious!!! Nov 2016. What a unique restaurant! Out for a nice dinner with my in laws and now husband and had a great time. I had an appetizer for dinner. Pop over with big chicks of lobster. Really enjoyed this. Perfect amount and great size. Menu is very delicious all over from sandwiches to salads to yummy desserts. They also make their own desserts where there is a glass display right when you walk in. Didn't have room but will definitely try it next time.
