As we walked in, I was a bit surprised by how busy they were already! It wasn't even 5:30 and the restaurant was technically full! The pan seared foie gras on pain perdu was the star of the night! Sooo good! Probably the best foie gras I have had! Mussels and escargots were really fresh. I felt like the freshness of these key ingredients usually is a key indicator of the quality of a restaurant :) Good wine list! I especially enjoyed the Jèrôme Gradassi. Anniversary dinner. The little things matter, and they were all excellent. So were the big things. Staring with the little -- custom menus acknowledging our anniversary. Sure, it's just a laser printer...but it was a lovely gesture (as were a couple of others along the way). On to the big. GREAT space. Used to be a lighting store, apparently. Windows open on this lovely night -- we were inside right on the window -- there is also completely indoor seating and, weather permitting, sidewalk seating. Lovely bar, too. Service was absolutely outstanding. Attentive without being obtrusive. Friendly. Thoughtful. Great advice on the menu and on wine pairings. We split a tuna tartare and salad as apps...both were fabulous. I had a short rib special which was predictably outstanding. My wife had the halibut. We had red velvet cake for dessert. Again, all spot on. You can really tell the quality of a place by how they handle hiccups. We had a small one, the details of which I won't bore you with, and their response to it hit the ball out of the park. We will be back --- frequently -- ourselves and with friends. Had a lovely dinner at Pomeroy, the food was very good and the service was good as well. We sat outside on the back patio so the ambiance was lovely. We got the baguette to start which was really tasty but the butter was even better than the bread itself! We split the heirloom tomato salad which was very flavorful and well balanced. I had the bouillabaisse and was pleasantly surprised- very wonderful flavors and great assortment of seafood - the saffron broth was perfect. My sister got the chicken which she said was delicious. For dessert we got the profiteroles which were lovely, the pastry was soft and pillowy and the chocolate sauce was bittersweet perfection. We also got the red velvet cake which was absolutely delicious - not too sweet, just the right balance of tang and sweet in the cream cheese frosting and a very soft cake. read more

Pomeroy is our favorite special occasion place. It's hard to strike the balance between celebratory and snooty. This place has a nice fancy, dress-up feel without being too precious or self-impressed. We ordered the large seafood tower for four, split two salads and a French onion soup and then went straight to dessert. We ordered four in addition to the red velvet cake they brought her. It was Bacchanalia haha. Our hands down favorite around the table was the orange scented crème brûlée. The wait staff was cheerful and attentive but never rushed us. We sat for three hours and ate and drank and talked and relaxed and dined. We live close to downtown but Pomeroy is worth driving up for. We missed our daughter's 21st birthday last year so we wanted to do something special this year. We let them know ahead of time that we were celebrating and they surprised her with a personalized menu, a champagne toast and a special dessert. The northshore of Chicago has always been a place with great architecture & green spaces. What it lacked was the options and diversity of the Chicago restaurant scene. It certainly seems like things are starting to change, and these suburban areas are realizing they need to build up "downtown areas" for their residents. This restaurant offers dinner starting at 4:30 all week. On Saturday & Sunday they also offer a brunch and lunch menu, Pomeroy could be slapped in the middle of streeterville with how great the food quality is, and how well the space is decorated. The interior is open with a large bar area and plenty of seating options. There's also outdoor seating options for the warmer months. The menu is expansive with tons of French classics. There is a daily entree special every day that's set by weekday. When we dined there was also an additional appetizer special available. The menu is very easy to understand with all the dishes placed into a section. Appetizers, charcuterie, salads, seafood section, side dishes, entrees as well as an "avec frites" section which is items served with fries. They also have a pretty decent cocktail list and an extensive wine list. For cocktails we tried the bad apple & the le spritz. Both were creative, but the le spritz was the favorite. I loved their take on this classic drink. I went with a group of 3 other people and we had a very hard time deciding what to order since there were many delicious options. For appetizers we started with the baguette with butter, honestly I'm always a little miffed when places charge for a standard bread & butter, it was good though I wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the steak tartare, tomato tart, and an appetizer special of duck confit toast. All the appetizers were well presented and extremely tasty. We all really loved the tomato tart, which was surprising as it was the most simplistic item we ordered besides the baguette. For entrees I ordered the classic steak & frites (steak a la bordelaise), my friends got the lobster roll, risotto aux champignons, mussels and a side of macaroni au gratin. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, and was soft and buttery. The bordelaise sauce was rich and delicious. The fries were nice and crispy. I tried the risotto which was very rich and had a great truffle flavor. My friend added chicken to it, and I think there was an option to add seafood or meat. The sauce the mussels came in was very flavorful, and they served a ton of mussels. It was suppose to come with fries, but my friend was able to get the Mac au gratin instead. We were all extremely happy with our choices, and thought everything was well prepared & flavorful. For dessert we shared the chocolate pot de creme, and the profiteroles glacees. I wish the profiteroles were just the standard ones, and not ice cream but they were tasty. We really enjoyed the pot de creme as well. It was a big portion! I highly recommend Pomeroy. Everything from the ambiance to the food quality is excellent! If you're looking for a good French bistro this is a solid option in Chicagoland. read more

Lovely place and gracious service. However, I was not impressed by their Lobster Risotto. It was not the velvety smooth texture I'm accustomed to and expect. Came here for my birthday with friends and had an absolutely lovely time. The ambience is lively but it's not so loud that you can't hear your companions. The service is top notch and even though you have your waiter, the bus boys and managers are all constantly checking in to make sure everything is perfect. The food is incredible, and we each received a complimentary glass of Prosecco as well as a big complimentary slice of red velvet for the table in honor of my birthday. Sunday brunch... had the quiche Lorraine and apple chicken sausage. The quiche was savory but not overpowering. Apple chicken sausage was flavorful and just a right compliment to the quiche. Had the virgin Bloody Mary to wash everything down and thought it was bit too spicy. Staff was attentive and helped with recommendations. Ambiance was casual and on the quiet side as our table was able to carry out a good conversation. I am tired of freezing in restaurants and this one was cozy. The food was great with lots of extras. Some reviewers wrote their portions were small. I don't know what they ordered but we had plenty of food. Not what I expected from a French restaurant but everything was good and filling. The onion soup and sea bass were a standout. Pomeroy is by far one of the best French bistros in the Chicagoland area. We drove to Wilmette from downtown Chicago to check out Pomeroy. Many of our friends live in the North Shore and had nothing but excellent reviews of the place. So we just had to try! There is free valet parking. But there is plenty of nearby municipal parking. We made a reservation, which we recommend if you want to sit out on the patio. We were seated in the front patio but there seems to also be a lovely back patio. We didn't venture through the restaurant to see but saw it while we were walking up to Pomeroy after parking. Service was excellent. Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. We started off with cocktails, which they have some on tap! I had to try the Wild Child (Vodka, Dolin Blanc, Ginger, Passionfruit, Lemon, Bubbles)--it was so refreshing! It is one of their most popular cocktails on tap. To start, we got the cheese plate to share (Plateau à' Fromage Petit Camembert, Ossau-Iraty, 17 Crisp Apple, Honeycomb, Apricot, Walnut). I got the French onion soup and my hubby got the frisée salad. Their onion soup was perfect. It was not too salty and had a nice rich flavor (it's as good as mine!). As it was Sunday, I opted for the Coq Au Vin (with Button Mushrooms, Pearl Onions, Lardons). My husband got the salmon. Love love love the Coq Au Vin. As there was no side, we got the pomme purée to sop up the juices. Needless to say, dessert was a must. There were so many good ones from which to choose! We got the blueberry lemon tart, which was seasonal. We figured we could try the more permanent ones later. The tart hit the spot! It was very lemony and was a perfect way to end such a wonderful meal. There were so many items we want to try and will be back! Nice room, very French without being over the top, friendly staff that really made our 29th anniversary wonderful and a relaxed atmosphere. Chicken pate, Pomeroy salad, mocktails were all excellent. We had the steak Diane special on a Saturday night with some whipped potatoes and it was beyond words. So good I almost couldn't believe it. And the desserts were just superb! Best red velvet cake I have ever had, and my wife's maple creme brulee was creamy, rich, flavorful. And when they found out it was our anniversary desserts were on the house. It is pleasant bustling Parisian style bistro with a lot of space both inside and outside. Very good, friendly and competent service. Comprehensive wine list, heavy on French wines, understandably. Liked our appetizer duck confit terrine, and enjoyed both our entries: trout and Hangar steak/ Bordoleaise. All in all, highly recommended! The food is wonderful and the staff is working under socially challenging circumstances and handling it with aplomb! I recommend Pomeroy for any meal... because their food and service are both incredibly solid... their signature apple dessert is... and I wanted to hate it, a little because it was SO PERFECT... but I couldn't, because it was also one of the most delicious things I've eaten! The staff is exceptional and they have the ability to make a busy weekend night seem like a dead weekday afternoon... you never have to wait for anything, and your needs are met by anyone and everyone who is within reach of your table... Which means, every manager, host, server, busser, and runner etc will get you whatever you need when you need it, despite the fact that they all have an actual job to do! Because this establishment realizes that working as a team to make the guest experience wonderful is the key to success, especially in a place like Winnetka. We celebrated a birthday this evening and our total experience was great. First, we needed a slight accommodation for one of us who has a disability. I went to the restaurant yesterday to advise them of our needs. When we arrived for our reservation, the staff was fully informed and prepared. We were treated like royalty. Our food was excellent. I shared Salade d'Orange Sanguine with my husband against my wishes. I'm not a fan of kale. But it was his birthday, so he got to choose. OMG. It was out of this world. I will absolutely order this on our next visit. We did not inform the restaurant that we were celebrating a birthday, but they surprised us with profiteroles for dessert. Our server, Malia, was attentive and I suspect she heard us when we were toasting my husband. Profiteroles happens to be my go-to dessert whenever it is on the menu, which is rare. They were delicious. We have been to this restaurant several times and it always delivers. Happy to have Pomeroy in our neighborhood. read more

Had my first (and last) experience at Pomeroy last evening. Our server was a very delightful person who did her job well. We had reservations and were seated in a timely manor (it was Monday). I ordered the Monday night (lobster risotto) special and when my main dish arrived I thought I was looking at a small appetizer. There was 4-5 less than bite size pieces of lobster on top of a small dish of risotto. Besides the skimpy serving my entree was bland and dry. If I remember correctly it was $39. The portions of the other people in my party were also very conservative and the prices were quite the opposite. I'm more than happy to pay $40+ for an entree when the food is tasty and the portion reflective of a main course dish. Far too many restaurants on the Northshore that have great food and good value. read more

Amazing service and amazing food - even able to accommodate my allergies (celiac disease) and prepare their French onion soup, fries (separate fryer!), among other dishes, completely safe for me to eat. We had another wonderful experience with Cyntia M as our server! When the onion soup was brought out, the person forgot a spoon. Cyntia was 15 to 20 feet away taking someone else's order, and after she finished, she rushed over with her wooden box and gave me the soup spoon. What amazing Observation and attention to detail! The soup was just OK however. I highly recommend the Spruce St. Manhattan which tastes much like an old-fashioned. The Mediterranean Seabass was absolutely amazing as was the GL Fourcher LeBrun. Might be my new favorite spot on the North Shore. 2nd time eating here, was just as delicious as the first. We started with Mussels and the Warm Tomato Tarte. Both are delicious but the sauce that they cook the mussels in is fantastic. Both times we saved the sauce to soak up with Baguettes or to put on our entree. Trust me, it's that good. The Tomato tarte is delicious as well. My wife and daughter had the fusilli which was great. Both my daughter's boyfriend and I had the steak. Also delicious. Both times I have had Carly as a server and both times she was wonderful. She definitely is very attentive, super helpful and knows how to pace a meal perfectly. Big shoutout to Carly. Beautiful night sitting outside at Pomeroy! We ordered a glass of wine, appetizers and dessert. Asked 3 times..waited 30 minutes for the dessert menu. Asked for the check 2 times. Sat by the valet stand and saw 2 parties come and go in the 1 hour and 50 minutes we were there....at some point we became invisible! Tuna tartare was a mess with the cut of the meat barely chopped and way too many onions not diced ans huge chunks making the dish not so pleasant. Burger and fries. This place is 5 stars in terms of -atmosphere -service The place is great and attentive. A few things, we had an issue with our meal and they promptly took care of it and took it off the menu. They were very responsive. In terms of the space, it would be great on crowded evenings to have some air purifiers or run the HVAC fan to keep fresh air coming in during the winter months. The place was packed and can be a bit unnerving with all thats going on. Clean air can reduce the risk for everyone. The tomatoes were very strongly seasoned with herbs that made them unpleasant. The bernaise sauce wasn't good...it was blah. My wife's Benedict wasn't very good either. We were looking for a "city vibe" and this did the trick! Hubby and I got there early because they just opened a week ago and reservations are not really available. Good luck for us, they decided to open the front patio an hour before we got there on Friday night. So we had a lovely seat in front. The vibe is totally french bistro. The bar looks amazing. The service was top notch. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, but not hovering. The manager came over to check on us a few times... but not in a "drive by" way. He really wanted to know what we thought and if things were going well. Our cocktails were very good. I had the French 75 and Hubby asked for a manhattan. We ordered a shrimp cocktail which was excellent. Our waiter suggested ordering the baguette. It comes warm with butter and is very good, as you would expect a french baguette with butter to be. It's $5. I would expect with the prices, they could offer it complimentary. It would seem to fit the ambience and friendly vibe to do so. Both of us had salads. They were ok. The dressings in both of them could have had a bit more flavor (more herbs? more lemon?). But the ingredients were good. I had the salmon and hubby had the cajun chicken. Both were excellent choices. The sauce on my salmon was so tasty and the salmon cooked perfectly. The chicken is sous vide which renders a very juicy breast. Which the cajun spices, it was a hit. We ordered the King's Apple for dessert. The apple is a wonderful creation. It is made of a mousse and has some type of soft sweet "candy apple" outer shell. It's quite interesting. From the description we thought it was more the caramel and cake (which it also had)... but it was worth trying it out. We ordered way too much food, but wanted to try many things. Next time I would just pick an app and a main and have my dessert be one of their many fine aperitifs.
