I like buying from Pomegranate, along with being Kosher, the store carries super fine quality products, for example high end European chocolate. Your fruit selection offers unusual but tip-top quality goods. Also, thanks for providing meat to Columbia Hillel, during the years my son attended the University in 2012-2016 years. This place is SO EXPENSIVE. Whole Foods looks like Walmart let's put it that way. Some things are not bad like $3.50 for pita bread but other things are just crazy. If you looking for kosher meat I'm pretty sure mountain fruit is cheaper or find a butcher because the prices here are just not good. We spent a little over $70 and walked out with three small shopping bags. Sunday the parking lot is valet so come ready $ or get angry being in traffic and maneuvering though double parked cars! This is by far the most expensive grocery store I have ever set foot in, in my life! And I used to shop in Beverly Hills. And currently shop Whole Foods/Amazon Fresh, which are pricy also. But not like this store! While this store may be too expensive to be a staple for me, they do have an excellent selection of high-quality European bar chocolates, unique sweets here in there. So, I'll end up being a regular. And let's not forget that they are completely kosher! In America, there's observant and there's OBSERVANT when it comes to a Jewish upbringing. Growing up, my family fell into the former category, carving out our own interpretation of tradition, cooking strictly kosher meat at home, and loosening those rules when we dined out to only forbid shellfish and pork. All growed up, I've strayed. A lot. But I can still appreciate a place like this: First of all, every time I set foot in here, I get a kick (get it?) out of how organized, clean and pleasant it is. Even though this store has been open for years now, that jolt of excitement remains. 'Cause let's just say, kosher markets have never been known for their aesthetic sense. I don't come here all that often, but when I do, it tends to be for Israeli products like Milky, a whipped cream-topped chocolate pudding that puts Jello to shame, Bamba, sort of like Cheetos if they happened to be covered in peanut butter dust, and a crunchy savory snack called Bissli, that comes in a bunch of flavors, most notably Falafel. Also love the bars of Elite Milk Chocolate with Popping Candies, or Pop Rocks to you and me. The other day, I picked up a small jar of Ta'amti brand Green Schug, a hot chili paste that hubby grew up on. Normally, he'd be all snobby about eating a commercially produced version of this, but he tried it and gave it a thumbs up. So there's that too. And there's Tahini. So much Tahini. I even spotted flavored Tahini on my last visit, including Dill, Parsley, Pesto, Hot Red Pepper, Spicy Chili, Sweet Chili, Date Syrup, and Peanut Butter! And if you're ISO Tahini made from unhulled sesame seeds, which supposedly contains tons more calcium, they have that here too. This supermarket is also great if you happen to be in need of a strictly kosher hostess gift. My brother happens to have strayed the other way in that he's OBSERVANT. So we often stop here to get a pareve (dairy-free) dessert to bring over to dinner at his place. Alas, while gorgeous looking, none of the cakes we've tried so far have actually tasted good, though it's all relative when you're used to kosher, so my brother's happy. We've had better luck with some of the Israeli-style house made salads and dips fwiw. When I first moved to NYC, I lived with my OBSERVANT brother and as such, had to abide by his house rules. So I remember longing for the *good* kosher equivalent of foods I normally took for granted, like goat cheese, feta, and parm. Back then, this was a challenge to seek out, even here. I stopped shopping here long ago in that the rabbis who supervise its merchandise somehow came to the peculiar belief that raisins are bug infested and are therefore not kosher. They have ordered that all breakfast cereals and bakery goods sold there not contain any raisins, thus one can't even buy a box of Raisin Bran there. These rabbis are the only ones in the Brooklyn orthodox community who are of this opinion yet they continue to impose it on their customer base and have now done so for several years. This coffee shop is a gem within the Pomegranate supermarket. It's a cozy little spot within the store that offers a variety of coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, teas, etc., They also have fresh and deliciously mouthwatering pastries such as white chocolate blondies, scones, brioche sticky buns, brown butter financiers, and much more! I love the coffee and the lattes here---and the hot chocolate here is amazing too! And to top it all off all of the lattes are finished with beautiful artwork, which is always a nice touch. The service here is also great. The baristas and manager are always there with a friendly smile and an eagerness to help. For passover, we tried the chicken shawarma, pesto chicken, Moroccan tilapia, sea bass, pastrami wrapped in chicken, and a bunch of sides. Beware! It's a long story but I am now dealing with a horrible bout of food poisoning from food from Pomegranate supermarket! To add insult to injury, the senior manager has refused my request for a full refund saying (via a representative)she needs to "look into it"and will get back to me next week! The items were immediately thrown out as per food poisoning guidelines, so I'm not quite sure what she needs to "look into". This was an online order. In fairness, I did return some items for which I was refunded after a lot of back and forth and arguing with a bunch of different people, including another manager. The order arrived many hours late, and many items had spoiled, perhaps due to poor packing, lack of ice and lack of refrigeration. Also, in store very few store employees and very few shoppers are masked. Seems it's not a Pomegranate priority in the midst of an international Covid pandemic. My days of shopping at Pomegranate are over. Shame too, because over the years this place has been a regular stop for me . I just died and went to shiksa heaven. Here's why: -Everyone knows vegans and pareve kosher food are a match made in heaven. I recently even decided to eat pareve instead of vegan - I was having a protein issue and so expanded my palate to include the neutral eggs and fish, which along with all things vegan, count as pareve. So this is a great place to find everything I could ever want, and things I never even knew existed. I also enjoy the fact that knish has its own heading on the aisle signage. -I think Jewish guys are cuuuuuuuuute. There are lots of cute Jewish guys here, if lurking is your thing (it's mine, heh). And ladies, don't worry, I also think you are beautiful (really, I do). I am just enamored with the Jewish community in general, so it's a nice space to be in (even if middle aged women will glance disapprovingly at your bike shorts and all the cute guys won't look even once at you, sigh). But really, this is a very cool way to support and be among the community, if you, like me, can't actually be a part of it (SUPER SAD FACE FOREVER). -I didn't think prices here were that horrible, especially considering that this is basically the kosher Whole Foods. I bought mostly things I came in for (chickpeas, lemons, gum) and none of them were expensive at all. The things I wanted that were expensive (Israeli chocolate spread omgggg), I knew I wouldn't die without and didn't buy, and most other things (Earth Balance, Tofutti cream cheese) were reasonably, normally priced. I was lucky enough to have my friend with me who grew up Chassidish, and he gave me the inside scoop on things I would probably like that I would have never known existed without him. -This store is huge and clean and easy to get to, and customer service is excellent with a ton of employees around. Pomegranate! Well, well. Before Pomegranate existed, going grocery shopping was a pain in the ass. Seriously. Pomegranate makes going to the grocery a pleasure, an outing, a fun activity. Cleanliness in a grocery is a big deal and they do not fall short. Floors are always sparkly and produce is amazing, clean and shiny. I love that they have cut up fruits on site too. They have a super large takeout with phenomenal chickens, fish, meats. Lots of side dishes. Butcher and Fishmonger on site. And really the best part of it all is that the isles are sooo wide! There's no crazy trolley traffic. Service is top notch. There are always employees ready and willing to help. They are on the pricier side! BUT ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! read more

If you decide to keep kosher and you're looking for some high-end prepared food, this grocery store can beat hands-down most kosher restaurants. However, if you keep kosher, you know that it's far more expensive than non-kosher diets. Expect to pay 100%-500% premiums over non-kosher food and sometimes triple other kosher stores. As far as the food goes, it was beautiful to the eye and pleasing to the senses. From the beautifully displayed sushi, to the lamb lollipops, to the stuffed chicken legs with shallots, mushrooms and other tasty vittles. As you walk in, I was greeted by a Purim exhibit. It was really pretty cool! It reminded me of what Christians do around Christmas for the Nativity scenes. Although this grocery store has it's own parking lot, it is small and quite packed. It's also quite difficult to find street parking in the area. Lastly, both the store and the area is quite congested with foot and car traffic. Despite the super high price (think double or more of Whole Foods), this place was PACKED and they had box upon box of groceries ready to be delivered. This place is super popular for the kosher community and I am sure they are really glad that they have it. It truly is a gem in a Kosher world where most restaurants and grocery stores serve blandish or outlandish food. This venue is a notable exception to that rule. read more

I placed a Passover order 1 month in advance. The day of the order they call to tell me that they are out of stock of almost 50% of the items on my order. They said they could replace some of the items with the same items, but from a different brand. I said ok. Of course, the items they substituted were very different from the ones I originally ordered (it was like substituting a Coke with Orange Juice rather than with Pepsi). I haven't shopped here in a while because, y'know, budget. Pomegranate is the Golden Calf of the kosher supermarket experience - you know you shouldn't do it, but you give up all your gold and it feels so good - until your dad shows up and starts yelling about how much you spent. I walked in this Friday to get some impressive-looking dips for a meal at a friend. I went in with a strategy - get in, get four dips, get out, and spend less than $25. I stepped up to the entrance, the doors swooshed open, and I immediately thought that it would be logical to spend a couple hundred bucks on some specialty meats or perhaps an artisan sponge cake. Fast forward to the dips - I was tempted by the pickled lemon, or the truffle sauce for $19.99, but the helpful Dip Supervisor (or something) directed me to the more reasonably priced jalapeno dip for $4.99. Their hummus is the best homemade hummus in town, so I had to get that too, along with a chimichurri and a spicy onion dip. All were great. I was going to get the chipotle mayo but I was informed that it is best for a sandwich, not a dip. Kinda makes me want to have a sandwich. I took another look around and I gotta tell you, I was enticed by nearly everything I saw. This is a dangerous store if you pay taxes and are not in real estate or something. Despite the pull of the deli section and the tasting stations, I made it to the checkout counter and shelled out less than $25, like I had hoped. Relieved, I ran for the door. As I walked back to my car, I swear I heard the faints strains of Hotel California: "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave!" read more

I tended to avoid them before, preferring smaller, family-run shops--plus Pomegranate is a bit precious, with yuppie-ish interior design, a lot of pretentious prepared food, and the somewhat higher prices that usually go with these things. But they are also very good. And staple items are actually competitively priced. And--most important right now--they are operating safely during Covid. The store is immaculately clean. And every employee and every customer I have seen in the place was properly masked. You'd almost think you were in shoppers' heaven you're in Pomegranate, but its beautiful appearance masks an ugly reality... Even worse than the reeeally high prices, there's NO commitment to quality! Shortly after the store opened I bought a prepared rice dish which I threw in the garbage as soon as I opened the container and smelled it: it was rancid. And since the rancid rice was consistent with the fare at the other glatt kosher stores in the neighborhood - in my experience, they all sell spoiled food - I added Pomegranate to my list of stores from which I NEVER buy anything that wasn't packaged by the manufacturer. (I've also been treated to, among other things, rancid butter on my bagels, and baked goods as much as five days old, and I've seen soups that looked at least a week old.) And last night I bought a pound of Kerestir matzah for $31 that turned out to be a pound of broken pieces - NOT ONE SHEET WAS INTACT - and when I called customer service I was told that there's nothing they can do about it..."you take your chances." Well, what if I had bought the matzah for Seder and didn't have a single intact sheet to use? I suppose they'd have told me that an unkosher Seder is another chance you take when you shop at Pomegranate. read more

Pomegranates are my favorite fruit, so this grocery store has been on my radar for a long time. I went to Pomegranate for the first time yesterday and I was very pleasantly surprised! Next to the small counter based cafe, there are refrigerated shelves where you can buy containers of pomegranate arils. Currently it's 8 ounces for $6.99 and 10 ounces for $8.99. It's not at all a bad price considering Whole Foods sells 4.4 ounces for five dollars. They sell actual whole pomegranates at seemingly fluctuating prices. Yesterday I saw smaller pomegranates for $3.50 each and bigger ones sitting in the same spot today for $4.50. They can cost relatively high off season, now in winter we can only get imported pomegranates from Chile so I realize we can expect to pay more. Overall I'm very glad to finally see a store that has a reliable, steadfast admiration for pomegranates. They also have nice sandwich wraps for 7 dollars. I got a Japanese eggplant wrap that has other goodies inside like sun dried tomatoes. The problem is they don't make them on Fridays! They seem to have a slow of other prepared foods though, but I am a vegetarian so there's only a few things I can eat here. A lot of their prepared meals have meat in them. The prepared food prices are a little high but the aforementioned wrap I had yesterday was fantastic. I would appreciate this store more if they had sandwiches available every day that they are open or at least more vegetarian choices. The grocery prices seem not too bad but I feel I would save more if I shopped at Fairway. The aisles are spacious and clean. The store is nicely designed! Every employee I spoke to was courteous, even friendly. The store has parking, but the parking lot is tiny and its valet parking. I would walk or find outside parking if possible. Although a kosher Whole Foods will never happen, most orthodox Jews aren't searching for organic locally grown fennel or raw milk cheese, but at Pomegranate they have a large fully stocked produce section, loads of gourmet cheeses, and aged meats. The reasons I shop at Pomegranate (at least sometimes): 1. Hard to find kosher items are readily available (Pas YIsroel tortilla wraps, gourmet cholov yisroel cheeses, and plenty more). 2. Unique produce (even if it is overpriced) including a great selection of wild mushrooms, colorful root veggies and organics of all kinds. 3. DELI - when I have no time to make everything for Shabbos, I can always pick up a kugel or an extra side dish from the deli (they even have the mains if you need them). 4. Parking. I am a sucker for valet parking. Things you should know: 1. Their prices are high. The produce is always over priced and almost every time I purchase fruit here I remove the PLU sticker to find a hole or bruise underneath. 2. There are way too many workers in the store at any given time. I often have to dodge stock guys and extra employees just to get down the aisle. Ordinarily a well staffed store is a good thing, but if you've ever tried to get through the store quickly with nearly every aisle blocked with huge stock wagons, then you know what I mean. So, I started keeping kosher about 4 years ago (or so.) Living in Houston, we have a nice selection of kosher items, but it is hard to find things like good cheeses. My wife and I stopped into Pomegranate on our last trip to New York and brought back a large selection of kosher products that we could not find anywhere else. We just had the manchego with some dried cranberries as a snack, and OMG!!! it was amazing. I had lost hope that I could have good cheese again. Pomegranate made me a believer. Aside from their in-house product, the people there are amazing. When we told them that we were travelling to Houston by plane that afternoon, they wrapped everything in an insulated box complete with enough ice packs to get our food home worry free. read more

I didn't expect to like Pomegranate. It is a kosher supermarket. To me that means really high prices and aloof service. That's not the case at Pomegranate. Firstly, yes the prices are high; however the quality makes it worth it. I go in once a week and buy 3 pieces of precooked Salmon. It runs about $30 to $35. I thought about it, I recently went to a large chain quick service restaurant also with a fruit in its name, and ordered the Salmon. I received a small piece with sides and it was close to $20 with sides. For the money, I received big honking pieces of Salmon and I DID NOT HAVE TO COOK IT! This is a great specialty supermarket.
