So sad, what a difference a week makes. Last week I found them while grabbing some stuff at home depot. Chicken was great, moist, full of flavor, yucca was spot on and sauces had perfect consistency and flavor. Fast forward to today. I have never had a colder (barely warm), drier, flavorless 1/2 chicken in my life. That chicken was like leather and tasted like it had been reheated more than once. The yucca were so hard and cold I couldn't even snap them in half. So so sad. Don't buy anything here unless they fry it on the spot and pull it off the rotisserie. I would say this place is average. Not the best Peruvian chicken I've had but it wasn't terrible. I ordered a half chicken with regular fries and my husband ordered a quarter chicken with sweet potato fries. The chicken was crispy on the outside which I like but it was a little dry. The yellow sauce was ehh...just ok (Pollo Rico in Arlington has the best). The green "spicy" sauce was better but it wasn't really spicy and that was a little disappointing. We went on a Thursday evening so it wasn't busy at all. There was plenty of seating however I don't know if this place gets packed on the weekends. The cashier taking our order was friendly and the tables were clean. I probably won't be going back as it didn't do much for me. We've been to Pollo Peru before and it has generally been a good standard Peruvian chicken. Today we had a family platter for dinner (6:45pm Tuesday) - 3 breast quarters, 3 thigh quarters and 2 large sides. Good sauces. Sides were okay, but the chicken was petrified. The white meat was dry, stringy, and wings like jerky. The dark meat was not even spared, and was hard to eat. The staff should have refrained from serving such quality. Hope this is a one time snafu, else we have to drive down the street to Waku or Guapos. read more

I randomly suggested to go here for lunch one Saturday. I figured it'd be small, dirty and cheap but I was pleasantly surprised. Clean restaurant and bathroom. Open area to sit and eat in. My husband and I split a 1/2 chicken with fried yucca and black beans, it was plenty of food for a really cheap price, $8.59. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, good cumin rub on it. The yucca fries were a bit dry and crunchy but way better than a french fry. The black beans looked plain (no bits of onion or garlic that I could see) but great flavor! The mild yellow sauce tasted a bit mayo-y. The green sauce had good heat. If you like a lot of sauce, the amount they give you is very little and you do have to pay extra for more sauce. The chicken is flavorful and sides are delicious. The fried yucca is crispy outside and soft inside (as it should be). The green and yellow sauces are very tasty. The rice and beans combo side is great. The rice is soft and fluffy. The black beans have a good depth of flavor. I tend to prefer pinto beans vs black, but in this case I love the black beans. This place wasn't bad, I was a little disappointed in the chicken, it was dry. I don't eat Peruvian often, but from what I've been told the chicken should be juicy. I got yuca and plantains with my order, for some reason I got fries as well. From what I recall the yuca is listed as "Yuca Fries", so I think the cashier thought I was ordering fries as well. The yuca was very salty, the fries I got were steak fries (personally not a fan of those), and the plantains were not cut and whatever they fried them in made them very sticky and hard to chew because of the sticky outer crust/shell. The service wasn't bad, the employees are friendly. The free water cups are styrofoam which is no good for the environment (I know plastic isn't good either but at least you can actually recycle plastic in this state). I honestly don't know if I'd come back, I'd prefer to explore new places in hopes to find better food. read more

Its been about a year and a half that I eate here. Great food !! How ever I did not find the same value as I did before..... I felt a sense of nickle and dime on extras items... I ordered an 1/4 chicken white meat but the small side of fries was an exrtra charge?? Small I mean about 12/15 fries... they're also asking to order sauces at register to prevent from extras being ordered on the side you recive you food. Running a business is hard just that is worse to reflect that on the piece that its kerping it alive, your guest! I have tried a few peruvian chicken places in the area, this one is a winner. They get even the small details right such as the rice. If you are American, you probably don't "get" rice. Especially white rice..for me being raised in a latino family, white rice is for EVERY meal. And latin american white rice tastes way different than indian jasmine rice or the (usually horribly tasteless) white rice you get in Americanized chinese food. Lightly salted, hints of garlic, moist, this stuff is amazing. The chicken is very good, lightly crispy skin. They have an amazing spicey sauce that is of a unique recipe I have not had anywhere else. A previous review mentioned the fries suck..well here is a tip: never order regular fries at a latin restaurant. get the yucca fries! Those were excellent and come with a delicious mayo-like white sauce for dipping. I picked my chicken clean to the bone, which I rarely do since some bits sometimes seem yucky..but I basically wanted to cover the plate it came on in their spicy sauce and eat that too. I will be back! Very happy to find a good peruvian chicken place near me. Interior is very clean, service good, lots of tables to sit in. Give it a shot! Having just moved to Reston from Arlington, one of the dining options I was going to miss was Peruvian chicken. But I found this little gem on one of my many Home Depot runs and it's well worth it! The chicken was moist (contrary to previous reviews) and the sides were tasty as well. I ordered 1/4 white chicken with french fries and a side salad (all for $5.99), with the others in my group getting the sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Everyone was ranting about the meal while we were eating it. The sauces were delicious too, but be forewarned: the green is VERY SPICY (according to our resident spice lover). Just went back to Pollo Peru, I definitely give them an A for customer service and cleanliness. The cashier was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. However the chicken continues to be very dry. I'm Peruvian so I have had pollo a la Brasa growing up at several pollerías and restaurants in Lima, have also been to almost every spot in NOVA. Due to the proximity to my place I wish that they would find a way to make their chicken Crispy yet juicy. Unfortunately I will have to continue to go to other locations for our weekly pollo a la brasa craving. The yellow sauce it's good and their green sauce has improved a lot since my last review. This place is the perfect embodiment to the saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover". I say that because, when you first arrive in this shopping center it can present itself as a bit peculiar looking, however, when you enter Pollo Peru you become a bit relieved at how nice this place actual looks and how clean it is. One thing that I do appreciate about this place is that their menu isn't over saturated with items. It is a simple menu only containing items in which Pollo Peru knows they can execute at a high level. To the right of the cash register you can find a reasonably sized eating area which from the looks of it is kept quite clean. I think this a relatively cool place to come with a few friends or colleagues to eat for lunch and or dinner (If you feel like eating in and eating Peruvian). Another thing to note is that if you are a Yelper utilizing the Yelp app check-in feature, then it is more than possible for you to get a check-in coupon for 10% off. Which I did and ended up using for my meal on this particular visit. Now on to the food. Here is what I ordered: 1/4 Quarter Chicken (White Meat) Rice Plantains All in all everything tasted delicious.
