I wasn't very impressed by their cleanliness and the table locations and layout aren't very good. I got the half-chicken with 2 sides. The chicken was dry and over cooked and the side selection were about the same quality and not very good. I was disappointed that they didn't offer the traditional "onion salad" that I see at other places. To me, that complements the barbecue flavor so well. I was always intrigued by their large sign that you could see from the road that happens to be visible while sitting at the stop light. It's too bad that this doesn't live up to my expectations. Let me preface this review by saying that if I was only rating this restaurant on quality of their food alone, then it would likely be a strong 4 star contender. But my review is of the restaurant as a whole and so I had to drop its rating due to its customer service. As I mentioned above, King Pollo has some incredibly tasty food. I love their chicken and my go-to sides are usually the fried rice and macaroni/cheese. Aside from the chicken, I've had their bistec a la pobre, carnes asada, and pupusas. The bistec a la pobre is delicious. The carnes asada are usually pretty good (although the last time I got it, it was really salty). And the pupusas are decent, if you know what you're ordering. My last statement is a jab at the customer service here. If you've ever ordered pupusas before, you know that it's supposed to come with the cabbage slaw side. At King Pollo, I've found that if you're not a seasoned foodie who knows exactly what you want, you tend to get shortchanged. A couple times, King Pollo has left off the cabbage side and only given it to me and my friends when we asked for it. Similarly, when we've ordered the carnes asada, it's supposed to come with a tortilla, which we've also been shafted on in the past until we asked for it. As for the pupusas, a friend of mine prefers pork pupusas and asked the server if they make pork pupusas. The server enthusiastically said yes and so my friend ordered it, only to be given bean pupusas (again without cabbage slaw until he asked for it). If you're not big on customer service and you don't mind going back to the counter at King Pollo a couple times if they leave off parts of your dish, then I recommend it based on the quality of the food. And if you simply want Peruvian chicken done well, then yes I also encourage you to dine at KP. But if you get frustrated easily as my friend does when your plate isn't exactly right...then you may find yourself slightly disgruntled at this establishment. ***Note, there is another King Pollo location in Chantilly, which I've also dined at. For the budget-friendly prices at King Pollo and the large amount of food you get, I can't believe this was my first time trying it. The restaurant itself was small and somewhat cluttered, but honestly for the price, it's worth the try. I ended getting the 1/4 chicken (white meat) combo. My two sides were spaghetti and the fried rice (healthy, I know...). My aunt got the 1/4 chicken (dark meat) combo with fried rice and a salad. The chicken was flavorful and the rice was delicious! My spaghetti tasted like average spaghetti and the salad was quite normal as well. I also ordered the horchata drink, which was amazing. I would definitely recommend that. This was such a great place to eat. But not sure if ownership or management has changed. The new lady at the register just causes a lot miscommunication when ordering. She ended up making the pupusas and honestly they were very poorly made. They use to pack them well. And now it's more like a plain tortilla. It seems like to much micromanaging to the point the employees are unsure on how much they "can" give you. Not sure if I'd even come back again. Maybe try a different location. read more

Id seen lots of traffic to King Pollo when going to Thai Thai next door and finally stopped in to see what so many people liked. It's a cafeteria style place where you select from the menu above the serving line. There was nobody in there eating at lunchtime, so I guess it's a mostly take out place. I ordered chicken with two sides, the green beans and beans to take back to work. The chicken was dry -- I think that's hard to do with rotisserie chicken, isn't it? And it was rather bland in comparison with other chicken places. It didn't have the richness of spices and flavoring that make other places Peruvian chicken so mouth watering. The chickens also seemed to be very small in comparison with e.g a Costco rotisserie chicken. The variety of sides was surprising, beans, green beans, Mac& cheese, potato fries, yucca, plantains, green salad, potato salad, couple of kinds of rice, and more I don't remember. The quantities of sides were huge, two to three huge spoons piled high in the container and spilling over the edges. The huge sides I guess we're supposed to make up for the tiny pieces of chicken. The jalapeño sauce they give with the order was delicious, I could have eaten that straight. So, I guess this is a favorite for the large quantity, variety of sides, take out fans. read more

I needed the fastest possible lunch today that I could bring back with me to work because I can't take a full lunch break. I first notice an odd smell as I walk in, kind of like urine and some cheap bathroom cleaner. It isn't really crowded but they are taking forever. As I wait in line I get a really good look behind the counter into the kitchen. It was FILTHY, disgustingly filthy. So dirty that I considered leaving, I should have. There was food all over the floor. In between the glass case where they keep the chicken and the pole on the right there was filth, dried up chunks of food. On the front of the glass case itself there was the green slime/ooze coming out of the front, and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Keep in mind this is the case where they keep the food you are going to eat. They left the cole slaw container uncovered and there was a fly sitting in the coleslaw. The floor where you would sit and eat was filthy as well. The chicken I got is so dry that it is like eating sand. The skin is so overcooked dry that it has formed a hard protective layer that is impossible to cut through. The chicken underneath has a unusual flavor and is inedible. The french fries are soggy and undercooked. The plantains are undercooked. If you value cleanliness, stay away. I will not be returning, ever. read more

5 stars. This gets 5 stars because for what it is, it does it excellently. This is a cafeteria style Peruvian chicken place that gets it right. It isn't a $200/head white linen tablecloth, sit down shop with a snooty hostess stand. It's a place that moves people through the lines quickly at lunch and gives you way more food than expected for the price. 1/4 white or 1/2 chicken + yuca fries is really their specialty. There are also burritos, tacos, papusas and some other stuff. Never tried any of them. It's not called King Burrito or King Taco. Yuca are always piping hot, fresh and perfectly crispy. With a couple of side sauces for dipping, and a sugar based (non-HFCS) drink, lunch can be had for like $8. This is not a big shop. Maybe 15 or 16 tables, and it does fill up. The mix of lunch crowds seems to be techie folks in the area and quite a few latinos who seem to really enjoy this place. Spanish is prevalent. Ordering in english is sometimes perilous, but be patient, they'll get it. If you speak even a lick of spanish, use it, and make it easy for them to get it right the first time. I've had the chicken there once and it was about the same as a rotisserie chicken from any local grocery store. The sides are interesting. The spaghetti seems to have mayonnaise in the sauce. The plantains are delicious. I normally order the tacos and usually get an eye roll when I do. I guess it's a little more work than preparing the chicken and sides. The place is pretty dirty and the kitchen doesn't look very clean. I'll be back since this is on rotation in my office lunch group. read more

Just ate at their new location next to the Sterling library. Very friendly staff and not only was the food good it was a lot of it too!
