Nice plump breasts Ok, now that I got your attention. ... There are like 3000 Ala Brasa joints in the NOVA area. Each one serving the same fare. I love the char chicken dealio but got pretty burned out on the same gig time after time. Pollo Peru is across from where I buy my hockey equipment and I've contemplated a lunch drive by from time to time. Finally I got in the other day expecting the "usual". Clean place, owner on site, and wow.... big ass chicken yo. When you can eat the wing and drumstick and they haven't been dried up and over cooked.... u got a home run. Big fresh side salad, good yucca and spicy sauce.... man... lip smakin' good. Best yet....CHEAP. All this for less than what I typically pay for the same meal. If you like Peruvian chicken joints, this is the spot! Easily the best Peruvian chicken in Fairfax County (on the border of Loudoun County), for sure. We have been here 1/2 dozen times since they recently opened and will be regulars from now on. To put things in perspective, I'm a disciple of Crisp & Juicy and Super Pollo (both in Arlington, VA). These two places set the bar high on consistent quality & tastiness, but Pollo Peru in Herndon has not only met that mark, but may have surpassed it. I stick with the 1/4 white chicken meal with rice & beans and get an additional side of yucca. Be sure to get some yucca, it's the best I've ever had & perfect every time. Not sure about some of the negative reviews about this place; from 1) charging more for extra sauces, 2) prices being too high and to the 3) size of the sides. My response to these; Nonsense! None of these negative reviews hold up under scrutiny and sound like people just venting b/c they were mad. Again, Pollo Peru is legit. Take a look at the ratings and compare those who are complaining just have an ax to grind. I'm moving to Sterling soon and I really really wanted to like this place. Ate there last week at about 6:30 pm. There were a few customers dining in, but there wasn't a line. The chicken was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary and unfortunately a bit dry. Deep fried items need to be eaten soon after they've been fried. The yuca frita and fries were also a disappointment. Not as fresh and crispy as they should've been. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, hence the three star rating. I'll definitely give them another try in hopes of a better experience. I wish they win me over. read more

Went here for dinner with my family recently, and we were happily surprised! We ordered 1 whole chicken, fried plantains, and coleslaw. The chicken was delightfully charred and spiced to perfection, the meat was hot and tender. The plantains were delicious as was the coleslaw. The food in general was authentic, fresh, and delicious. The atmosphere was obviously new, being that it opened not too long ago. My family enjoyed how clean and open it is (there are nice large windows letting in nice natural light). The employee (possibly manager?) who served us was polite and informative. This rating is not 5 stars because the plastic silverware we were given to eat with was a little difficult to use. We ended up picking it apart with our fingers, but hey- sometimes eating with your hands adds to the deliciousness. I had a solid take out experience with Pollo Peru. One night I invited friends over, but it poured down rain on my way home... so I was (1) late and (2) had no food to speak of. This is where Pollo Peru saved the day: Just having moved to the Dranesville area, I have never eaten here. A quick Yelp search helped me find this gem that is less than a 1/2 mile from my house. We order 3 quarter chickens with countless sides and a chicken sandwich. The rotisserie chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the sides were great too. I love the Yucca. Our call in order was ready in about 10 minutes and we talked them into extra sauces for free. A big win at the end of the day. read more

I've been here a few times for lunch. I typically get the 1/4 chicken with various sides (I've tried the rice, beans, yucca, and plantains). Chicken is always juicy, and all the sides I've tried are delicious, even the white rice is super moist. Really there is nothing to complain about. Food comes out fast, and it's a great deal. I'm pretty surprised about some of the negative reviews. My wife and I had noticed this restaurant being remodeled and we were anxious to try it. I think the first time we finally did was probably about 6 weeks ago. Since then, we've visited at least a half dozen times (probably more like 8-9 times). And every time we've thoroughly enjoyed the food. We always get the chicken (no sandwiches), plantains and black beans (once my wife tried the coleslaw...not good). And each has been very good. Everything is always properly cooked (no dry chicken for us) and hot (usually so hot we have to wait a bit to eat it...which is good if we do take out). The plantains are always perfect - and they've never been out, which a lot of other restaurants seem to have problems with - and the beans are perfectly seasoned. Also, except when they are obviously crowded, service has always been quick The only negatives we've experienced are the coleslaw, as mentioned, and the slightly costly sauce (they really should either up-size those a bit, or offer up to two of each, per serving for no charge...). read more

Stopped here on a weekday around 4pm. I got a half chicken (white meat) with platanos and coleslaw. The chicken portions were bigger than I expected and super fresh. The skin was really flavorful and crisped perfectly. Environment was clean and staff was very welcoming. 5 stars all around for me. The only thing I didn't like was that they only give you 1 small sauce per piece of chicken and charge you 25¢ for extra. The lady gave me extra sauce free of charge but I feel they should give you at least 2-3 sauces per piece as most competitors in the area do that as well. None the less, excellent restaurant. Great classic Peruvian rotisserie chicken with fries and salad- what's different about this place is they have more than just French fries , yuca, and rice as sides. They also offer kids meals and a couple sandwich options too. I totally don't understand how this place doesn't have 5 stars. For what it is- an inexpensive quick place focusing on one central food (Peruvian chicken) it is awesome. Clean, with friendly folks at the counter, they were patient while we picked out our food (1/4 chicken and sides). Black beans and yucca were both delicious, as were both the sauces they include with the plate. My only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner!! I've been ordering food every week or 2 from this restaurant for the past couple years and I will continue to do so. It's fantastic. The place is super simple and doesn't have a diverse menu, but what they do serve is delicious. All of their food is made with care and is very consistent. The chicken is super tender, juicy, and well seasoned, they fill their sandwiches to the brim with meat, veggies and sauce, their french fries are thick and flavorful, the sauces are delicious and savory, and their alfajor cookies are just... amazing... you need to eat one to know what I'm talking about. Northern Virginia has a lot of great Peruvian chicken locations, and this is one of the best. Any fan of Peruvian chicken should give this place a shot. And - AAAANNNNNDDDDD - they take online orders, you can pay online, AND you can schedule your orders ahead of time, AND the staff is really friendly. I order here once a week. Why? Because the birds a good size, it's seasoned perfectly, slow cooked over lumped charcoal, and cooked perfectly. I can account for 4 other Peruvian chicken spots nearby that either serve small chicken, over seasoned, over cooked, and or watered down sauce. Here the white meat is never dry, the season is blended to perfection, the skin is slightly crispy, and the green sauce is thick and flavorful. Still love the food, but wanted to note that when I came in the other day, there was literally nobody in there. I ordered to-go, and sat back to wait for my friend to order...but they completely ignored her. They proceeded to fill my order (which took a bit of time) and then took hers once they handed me my food. I have always been a huge fan of Peruvian chicken, but didn't like trekking to King Pollo in Sterling. I was near this place so I decided to give it a chance. I was not disappointed and may be switching my loyalty... My boyfriend and I ordered a whole chicken with two sides (to have left overs for lunch). The chicken's seasoning was so delicious and the chicken itself was so juicy! I am sad they don't have many sides to offer, but the Yucca and Salad were both very good. A roller coaster ride. I have had bad and good experiences at this location. The owner resolved the issue the last time but it got old and I'm done. I feel like I have to convince this place to take my money. I ordered 3 half chickens with all white meat. I was told sorry we only have "regular meat" which I assume means dark meat. I said I would wait and could order later and they literally said sorry. I then said ok if it's a pricing issue then charge me for 6 quarter white meals. Again they said we cant do that. funny thing is this is not a new issue, it's something I have experienced in person at the location. The last time I tried to make a similar order I was told "sorry we don't have enough, you have to wait." I said ok and sat there for like 30 minutes. the ISSUE is that I watched many customers walk in and order white meat orders in smaller numbers and were served immediately. This is a bad business model. typically it's first come first serve. - if it's a pricing issue then add an up charge OR state you cannot order a half chicken all white meat. - If a supply versus demand then rethink your business model. read more

The place is always a little smoky inside but its the kind of smoky that makes you want to eat everything coming out of that damn oven. The chicken is super flavorful and moist. You can tell that an effort was made. The sides are all kind of so-so. Not a great selection and not that tasty. My bf's favorite option is getting the rice and beans as a single side. I live right near this place and have known it to be a revolving door of restaurants, with Omia's being the only one that stayed a while since the old Pizza Hut. I had seen the renovations going on this time, so I wanted to check it out for a while (wasn't really sure what Peruvian chicken was... for some reason I was thinking a type of kabob, maybe jerk flavor?) but I kept putting it off. Didn't look like a bar-place (which I like for dinners) but it was lunchtime so it seemed like a good time to try takeout. Not many cars in the parking lot so I almost changed my mind, but I think I got there just before lunch-rush because a steady stream of people came in after me. I'm SO glad I finally tried it! The first thing I noticed is...it looks SO MUCH NICER! Very clean and modern. It no longer seems like an old pizza hut!! The second thing I noticed was at least 30 rotisserie chickens over the fire pit. (so my kabob notion was way off). I ordered 1/4 chicken with sides of sweet potato fries & black beans. The white meat and the sweet potatoes were extra charges and overall it was on the upper limit of what I'd like to spend on lunch, but...everything was delicious. VERY delicious. Tender, juicy chicken and a nice skin (tho I usually don't eat the skin) but I could resist eating some of this cause it was so tasty. I couldn't eat the lunch all in one sitting so in that respect that was almost 2 meals ...except the beans were gone on the first session. They are so good, I thought about the beans the entire next day! The meal comes with two small sauces and I loved the spicy green one!! (hopefully you can ask for 2 spicy sauces instead of one mild and one hot). I am definitely interested in repeating that meal, and also trying more things on the menu. Great food for a very reasonable cost - what more can you ask for? I went on a Sunday and it was fairly busy. The owners did a great job at remodeling the building and it is clean and bright.
