I have never heard of Pollo Campero before and I am so happy that I stopped by! The chicken is incredibly juicy and full of flavor. I also enjoyed their nuggets and Campero sauce which is creamy and a bit tangy. Both paired well with the crispy and starchy fried yucca fries. Service was so friendly and welcoming as a first timer, even through the drive thru window. I was told that this chain is well known in Guatemala and El Salvador. Service was friendly and establishment was clean. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I had empañadas. I'd say it tasted like chipotle sauce with a slight dill flavor to it. I liked the plantains, reminded me of the apples in an apple pie. Similar texture and flavor. I wouldn't crave the flavor to go again, but I wouldn't turn it down if someone else offered to go there. Husband got the fried chicken. It was a little too greasy for his liking. He said the flavor was good though. He really liked the beans. The more I think about it the more appealing it is for us to have a Costco/Pollo Campero wedding :) aside from the plastic utensils everything for their take out is recyclable and I can really appreciate that. We live 15 minutes away one way (20 for the average driver - but I want my chicken to still be warm when I get home, sooo...) so not exactly close but oh so worth it. Took my son here today to get take out so I could share the magic with him that is Campero. Forgot he's not a fan of bananas so didn't think that applied to fried plantains. Willi was at the cashier and repeated the order after taking it, which I can appreciate - thorough, professional, helpful, friendly. Next time I will get my son the yucca fries then and flan, as we have never tried the flan here and I know my son would like it. Wish they'd replace the dinner roll on the menu with something else because it really is dry and adds nothing to anyone's meal. I heard the pollo Campero in Guatemala has a really good black bean paste that went with meals you can spread onto your tortilla. The cashier was friendly and helpful. As it was my first time there. Ordered the three-piece chicken meal and it was fantastic. I like that they offer the option of bread roll or tortilla. When dining and they plate the food on a nice decorative plate and they bust the table for you afterwards as there is no trash can available for self disposal. This was my first time trying pollo campero and it has been on my list for the longest. I ordered the 2 piece lunch with leg and thigh, coleslaw, and a roll. The chicken had so much flavor and crunchiness to it. The coleslaw was similar to KFC , which is a good thing to me, if not, even better. It was nice and creamy and definitely not dry. i've been meaning to write this review for a while but i didn't the first time and finally have had the chance come back last week. I've gone to other locations and love the food, so it was very upsetting to have such a negative experience, i couldn't stop thinking about it. my experience was bad if not worse then the first time...... And the guy who seemed in his 20-40s didn't use a friendly tone.... in the time i was waiting i could hear staff slinging SLURS in the back and calling each other the N WORD (none of them were black....) so loud ALL CUSTOMERS could hear...while kids ARE PRESENT. Really disappointed with this Pollo Campero. The chicken was soggy. Must have been sitting there for a while in a heat lamp because after my family and I were feeling sick. Not fresh at all. The beans were very salty. Tasted like canned chili beans. Which is surprising because I usually get regular pinto beans or black beans. They also ran out of plantains. The yucca was the only thing that was fresh because we had to wait 12 minutes for it. The rice was not fresh. Probably microwaved. The Jamaica was sour. The horchata was bland. The grilled chicken was so dry i used the hot sauces and the tortillas for moisture so that I could swallow it. They are not very concerned about cleanliness one of the employees came dy and cleaned a table by me and left all the crumbs and liquid on the table. Something split on the floor under that table and a manager came by and put a caution sign up and then sat down across from it and left it there instead of just cleaning it up himself I hope for there sake that the fried chicken is good otherwise they will be out of business very soon. Fried chicken was good, I wish I can comment on the grill but they decide not to give me any grill pieces when the order says half grilled pieces. I end up getting 12 pieces fried Instead. That's strike 1. I ordered mashed potatoes for the kids. Didn't get any mash potatoes because they didn't give me any. That's strike 2. I was asked Tortilla or general, I asked what is general. If the owners want this place to survive they need to work on quality. I got the 2 piece weekday special. Decent value, sort of. What threw it off were the fries. They tasted as though they were made yesterday or maybe early morning and were just sitting all day. Chicken was a little greasy but over all tasted like it should. Roll was nothing special.
