So I'm an African American male, I go into pollos restaurant like I did the day before to purchase a chocolate chip and chill for a bit while on my lunch break. The cashier informs me that yesterday at some point their rest room malfunctioned and they believe me to be the person to be responsible and I'm no longer allowed to purchase cookies or anything else from them. I didn't even use the bathroom the day before when I went in to buy the cookie, can someone please help me make this situation make sense. I asked to speak to the manager she informs me that their not there and refuse to give me the phone number to them or their district manager. I'm like in shock, like it's the most ridiculous reason I've ever heard from disallowing a customer from purchasing at this restaurant. I really want to stay away from the word Preferential but I literally don't no how else to explain how I was treated by this cashier not even a manager or store manager. How am I suppose to feel? I appreciate anyone that reads this review and hope some light can be shed on the extremely disheartening experience, and that things get better for this restaurant''s culture, I was just trying to purchase a chocolate chip cookie from a Mexican restaurant and I ended up being banned and accused for its bathroom malfunction whatever that could have been on a day I didn't even use the bathroom, I called their corporate office but no one even has gotten back to me to explain why this happened to me, worst restaurant experience of my entire life read more

I had the chance to visit this place (a friend brought me here) I enjoyed the best crunchy chicken ever. Love the yuccas and plantains. The service was fantastic, they treated me like a VIP. Never heard of this place in a small strip mall in Springfield until my friend brought us. The 4-piece is enough food for two. Chicken is very juicy and tender and the plantains and yucca are satisfactory. But the apple soda is great! I think I had at least 2, maybe 3 full cups. Nope. Nope. Nope. Pollo Campero has some pretty baller fried chicken (and the camperitos, er, chicken bites as they now call them, are good when you don't get one of the weird, chewy ones that taste like chicken ligaments somehow made it into the final product). They seem like a company that delivers on its promise of providing decent food that's definitely a tier or two above all the other greasy fast food chains polluting the plazas and shopping centers of Northern Virginia. So what's my beef with this place? Well, they've recently switched managers, and the new one is rude to say the least. Apparently they're now charging for their signature sauces. Now, I recognize that this might not be the fault of the new manager. This could have been a decision from a higher up that was tired of giving away their "liquid gold" for nothing. Here's the problem: it's sauce. It's water mixed with some sort of dehydrated powder. It's literally glorified ketchup. Ever paid for ketchup at McDonalds? Hell no you haven't. And here's what really gets me: The containers they put the sauce in are TINY. They're about the circumference of a golf ball and about as tall as a penny. And to add to that, they barely, and I really mean barely, fill them halfway. So no, I won't be paying for a squirt of your sacred secret sauces. When I asked the lady at the register, who at the time of my visit was rudely barking orders at the employees behind her, why they were charging for the sauces now when they weren't a few months ago, she told me "Well those were the previous people that ran the restaurant, and they're gone for a reason". So the previous managers got axed for giving away sauce? C'mon. Overall, my food came out pretty good. So that's why I gave this location 2 stars. Horrible service, but at least you'll get an okay bite to eat. I should also mention that while I was waiting in line to be served, a family came into the restaurant and lined up behind me. When I was done paying, the family walked up to the register and the manager told them that if they wanted food, they'd have to take it to-go, because the restaurant was closing at 10PM, and they needed to start cleaning the dining area right now. Makes sense. Except for the fact that it was exactly 9:27PM when she told them this. Apparently, the sign on the door is a bit misleading. Sure, you might be able to enter the restaurant and purchase food before the clock strikes 10. But if you plan on using their chairs or tables to eat inside the location, get ready to get told off by a woman that sounds like she'd rather the customers not return if it means starting clean up a half hour earlier so she can get home sooner. Absolutely, completely 100% unprofessional. The man made the right choice. He, his wife and children turned around and left the restaurant to find somewhere else to eat. I will not be returning to this location. As another reviewer on here said, there's plenty of chicken joints in the immediate area to choose from. I simply cannot support a business that treats its customers this way. read more

I was going to give this a one-star rating but I guess it wasn't the worst food I've ever had, although it was pretty bad. We came here a while ago with a Groupon and the food literally got me sick afterwards. The rice was tasteless, the drink I got mostly tasted like cinnamon (bleh), and the chicken did not have the flavor or texture that I was expecting. The worst part was the environment though and the staff. There was one group of people who were being really extremely loud and utterly obnoxious (and were bothering us) which helped to ruin the experience of eating there. Maybe the restaurant attracts that kind of crowd. Definitely will pass on the Groupon next time for this. read more

GREAT FOOD.. sometimes.. The fried chicken is their main food. Frankly I find it bland and rather tasteless. However, the grilled chicken is to die for.. when you can get it. Apparently its not something they care very much about as you have a 50/50 chance they don't have any. I typically will try to get there grilled chicken about once a week. It's out of the way and I burn most of my lunch time just getting to and coming back so, when they don't have it.. about 25-30 percent of the time.. I'm left to chasing something else like from one of a hundred OTHER places who HAVE what they advertise. I love the grilled chicken there so much that I have decided to become a pain in the ass.. I am a big fan of Pollo Campero so when I saw one opening in my area I was so excited. I went and got the fried chicken (dark meat) and a side of yuca frita. The staff was extremely friendly and I got my food so fast. They also came out from behind the counter and handed me my food it was great. My family decided to eat here when looking for lunch and we are glad we did. The staff were friendly and the food tastes amazing. We tried the fried and grilled chicken that was flavorful. For sides we did coleslaw and rice. We loved the rice but weren't fans of the coleslaw (it wasn't bad we just like a different taste to ours). I had the guava beverage which tasted great. We have added this restaurant to our list of places to eat when we don't feel like cooking. read more

I ordered a 2 piece grilled (breast and wing) meal with Campero rice . The chicken was hot, fresh and crispy. The rice was pretty but not as tasty as I thought it would be with the charred corn and cilantro mixed inside. I couldn't taste either the corn or the cilantro. My total was $6.35 which is way cheaper than if I went to the subway next door. But overall I had a pleasant experience. read more

The good here is great - highly recommend the baked chicken (especially Wednesday 2pc deal... it's a steal) and verde empanadas. Honestly for a fast food place, the service is just fine - every time we've been, our meals were served promptly and tables are always cleaned right when guests leave. Horrible service. I purchased 10 pieces of camperitos for lunch. They advertised three new dipping sauces to accompany their bite-sized, boneless chicken pieces. Upon receiving my order, I requested to try the sweet adobo sauce. The manager looked at me, went to the back to grab a small container of the sauce, pushed it in my direction and stated there is a charge for the dipping sauces. Are you kidding me? But I ordered the chicken bites that advertised the new sauces... Maybe you should include that fine print on your advertisements. read more

I never thought I would be looking for Guatemalan fast food, but here it is and it is yummy. The camperitos (chicken nuggets, basically) are served with tasty savory sauces that really spice things up. I got those the first couple of times I tried this place but then branched out and tried the lime grilled chicken which is really great. The black beans are solid and so much healthier than fries. Or for about 30 cents more, the corn salad with cilantro is good too. They have regular soda options (Pepsi products) but sometimes I like to splurge and get horchata. Yum! So, this place has potential. It's pretty spacious and clean but the only thing lacking is the service. It took over twenty minutes to get my order ready, and when I received my "order", it was for someone else. Anyway, I brought the chicken home and expecting it to be fresh but it seemed like it was made a little while ago and the citrus on the grilled chicken was too strong for my likings. I love to try new places and had never been to this chain. I was greeted nicely by the person taking my order. There was only one other couple seated when I arrived. I ordered the 2 piece chicken with 2 sides and a fountain drink. I got my drink and was given a number for my table. A young girl came later and apologized because they were out of chicken breasts but they could replace it with a thigh. I said okay. The excuse was that they could only make a certain amount of pieces due to health regulations. It did not make sense if they were completely out of breasts, couldn't they make more as they were running low? I accepted the thigh. When it came out, the thigh was very small. The leg was much bigger than the thigh and it obviously was not from the same sized chicken. The beans were just canned beans, The rice was a little better. When I went to get a second glass of soda, there was no ice. I tried to just get the soda without ice and it also was out. I told one of the workers and a girl came out to look at it but she could not get it going. As I was leaving, there were other patrons that arrived after me and they had big breasts on their plates. Somewhat good for a one timr experience. Nothing stood out on flavor of food. The latin version of KFC is the best way to sum it up. Location is new so its somewhat clean. Staff are there to just do job, no smiles, no wanting to go past what would you like, this is not the latin atmosphere... best to go to the local latin places with better prices and bigger portions. read more

If you are expecting rotisserie style or peruvian style chicken they don't have it since the food here is Guatemalan or Central American food inspired but they do have a grilled cilantro chicken which I ordered. The grilled chicken was under cooked even though I requested a well done chicken at the front. The cashier also forgot to add an item to my order which I had to go back to order which I didn't even get a sorry from her when I went back.The grilled chicken tasted more bland than chicken I make at home. However, the yuca, tortillas, and drinks were decent. Will try the fried chicken next and see how that is. First thing's first, I absolutely will return. The food was fantastic. I dined here today with my 3-year-old son. The only reason I'm giving a restaurant with fantastic food a three-star-rating was that we had to send our order back THREE times to get the food I actually ordered. The nice young man behind the register simply shouldn't be behind the register. Despite reading back my order properly, what he keyed into the computer and printed as a receipt was absolutely wrong. At least we eventually got our food, though we had to send it back THREE times. The woman who delivered the food to our table was very friendly, understanding, and quick to solve the issue... it just shouldn't take this amount of effort to get what you order at a place with a straightforward menu such as theirs. The grilled citrus chicken is outstanding, and I highly recommend doing the premium sides - the Yucca Fries and Plantains were perfect. Just hope you get someone else at the register... read more

Went here on a weekday and they were out of a lot of things: wings, drumsticks, and breasts. So pretty much got thighs and they were small and were sitting in the oven for an unknown amount of time. They were out of 3-4 sauces and everything we asked for was replied with "We're out of it." The chicken itself was okay--nothing noteworthy but not bad either.
