Fried chicken
Danette D.

My friend spoke highly of the chicken and I was treated to the fried chicken, chicken nuggets and sides. I enjoyed the seasoning on the chicken and nuggets. I wasn't impressed with the yucca fries, they seemed overcooked. The rice was pretty good though. The service was pretty good the staff seemed friendly. The decor is cafe styled seating/tables. I would go to grab the hot tasty nuggets and a chicken breast.

Every time that i go to DC I stop to eat here, if you haven't been to a Pollo Campero before well you should try it, you might wonder what is different from other fried chicken places, well to begin with this is a fast food restaurant that was stablished in Guatemala back in the 70's they have a unique recipe their fried chicken is not like your usual fried chicken, the seasoning is so different and really good. I'm not gonna lie the flavor has changed a little bit but still good.

Empanadas

My boyfriend and I didn't know what to eat for lunch and we stopped here since it was on the way home. This was our first time and we told the employees there because we didn't know what to order. They didn't offer suggestions. We ended up getting the chicken sandwiches with a side of fries. I also wanted to try the empanadas so I wanted 1. I told the employee I didn't want a side because I had a side with my chicken sandwich. My boyfriend decided he wanted to try it too so we ordered 2 more. HOWEVER, when I looked at the bill, it would have been cheaper to order 3 empanadas + a side. But of course the employee didn't tell me that and let me pay the extra money. The fries weren't good and tasted kind of old. The chicken sandwich was a little salty but very yummy! I would've liked it with cheese and tomato but it was OK without. The empanadas were also very yummy! I would go back but try to calculate my food so it's the cheapest. I'm disappointed the employee didn't give me a heads up, especially because she asked if it was our first time there.

Flan

I wanted to like this. The price was right and I like that they have family meal options. The plantain were good and although the flan didn't taste like what I am used to, I liked it. It just didn't taste like flan. The rest of the food wasn't horrible but I didn't like it. The seasoning is all wrong. It tastes like over powered oregano or something. I couldn't quite pin point the seasoning I was tasting but either way, I didn't like it. I ended up throwing most of it out - all of the chicken. The empanadas were so disappointing too. They had chicken so I figured, can't mess up chicken. Wrong! It was like a tatter in there that doesn't belong. Like creamed corn. I guess that would be okay if you like cream corn in an empanada.

Campero Rice

I was literally walking down the sidewalk coming from one of the shops. And all I could smell was food that was smell really good. So once I finished at the other store I decided to go into this restaurant. At first I felt out of place because I was thinking my Spanish isn't so well and there's gonna be a language barrier. But to my surprise I was totally wrong. This place was packed and they were rolling pushing those orders out. I ended up ordering the 4 pc meal with half fried half grilled chicken with a side of rice and beans. So I'm not really a fan of the grilled chicken it wasn't bad but it wasn't for me. On the other hand the fried was delicious. I ended up mixing my beans with the rice and it was delicious it probably would've been more popping if I had've reheated but I'm not complaining. So yes, I would definitely go back and recommend this restaurant. They do call you order number out in Spanish first then in English.

Does anyone know where to find a menu with actual prices for their Midlothian location in Richmond, VA? I received a cryptic answer when I left a low rating. What's the secret about showing local menu prices with this place!?

You can now find it online.

This tidy little Latino market carries many Hispanic, Mexican and South American products. Being of Cuban descent, I frequently head to this site for Goya products, including rice, black beans, plantains, Adobo spices, coffee, Maria cookies, fresh fruits and veggies, tomato items, empanada shells and my "never be without" Mojo Criollo Goya marinade. This marinade truly is the spice of life and I use it in many of my recipes! You will also find baked goods, household items, and sundries at this store. There's a deli/butcher in the back and a frozen food section. There's also a small restaurant and pupuseria serving Latin fare, from Cuban sandwiches to tacos to tostones to tamales to yucca to soups/sides and more. They serve Cuban coffee, horchata, Latin sodas, and other drinks and some tempting desserts, like flan and tres leches cake. For an inexpensive, quick bite in a casual, no nonsense eatery with lots of festive atmosphere, you've gotta try Cielito Lindo, it really is "a slice of heaven". And not to worry if you don't speak Spanish, some of the folks there speak English. ¡Provecho!

Seven minutes later, it was still wrong they gave me chicken instead of beef. I spent over $80 and was treated like my business didn't matter. If I pay for something, I expect to get exactly that not what you feel like giving me. Poor service. Basic food. Sloppy attitude. Beware Richmond, VA (I told you so) this was my last visit. One star.

He was listing for key items on the menu but didnt understand anything else. So I called back twice. No answer. I decided to call from my other phone and someone immediately picked up. I asked if there was someone available who spoke English so I could place my order, I then started speaking Spanish and I was hung up on again. I called back 8 times and no one answered. I would never spend my money at a restaurant that gets upset with me because they dont speak English. I live out of the country and have to speak a foreign language everyday, so I was willing to speak Spanish to try to communicate. But hanging up on me and then refusing to answer is absolutely unacceptable for any reason. A restaurant should be welcoming business and being accommodating to guests to help them place their order. Whoever answer the phone was very rude. I hope it wasn't the owner because that is NOT how businesses should be ran. A complete disappointment of an establishment. Ill take my $200 order to another restaurant that respects people, especially ones who dont speak Spanish right away.
