I finally tried Maya's Latin Kitchen and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the birria tacos, birria quesadilla, and birria empanadas, along with their fresh guac and homemade chips -- every single thing was packed with flavor and tasted fresh and homemade. To top it off, I tried the churros (and they give you plenty!) plus the churro cheesecake. Let's just say... it was so good I drove there thinking it was a dine-in restaurant, only to find out it's takeout only -- and honestly, it was still 100% worth the trip. Called to place a order for pick up. I got hung up on. Then I realized that maybe the person answering the phone didnt speak English. He was listing for key items on the menu but didnt understand anything else. So I called back twice. No answer. I decided to call from my other phone and someone immediately picked up. I asked if there was someone available who spoke English so I could place my order, I then started speaking Spanish and I was hung up on again. I called back 8 times and no one answered. I would never spend my money at a restaurant that gets upset with me because they dont speak English. I live out of the country and have to speak a foreign language everyday, so I was willing to speak Spanish to try to communicate. But hanging up on me and then refusing to answer is absolutely unacceptable for any reason. A restaurant should be welcoming business and being accommodating to guests to help them place their order. Whoever answer the phone was very rude. I hope it wasn't the owner because that is NOT how businesses should be ran. A complete disappointment of an establishment. Ill take my $200 order to another restaurant that respects people, especially ones who dont speak Spanish right away. read more

If you're looking for this place by a nameplate outside, forget it, there isn't one. This place has a number of "restaurants" under the same small roof, as it is more an Uber Eats pickup then something you walk into. Generally, there's a screen for ordering from one of the restaurants, but I was lucky and had the guy take it for me. I ordered the Oaxaca Burrito, Steak Quesidilla, and Queso Dip & Chips. Here are my thoughts. Oaxaca Burrito - for the price, undersized. The filling was good, but not great, and not a lot of chicken in there. Steak Quesidilla - again, ok, but missing the elements of a great one, as it was largely steak and cheese, with a side of salsa. The Queso Dip and Chips was a total rip at $9.99, with a small bag of chips overwhelmed by an ok dip. On the whole, probably a little under a 3 given the pricing, but on the plus side, the guy that took the order was very pleasant! Unless really desperate, not likely I'll be returning. read more

So glad we found this hidden Gem in the cut. Restaurant is nicely decorated. Off the bat, the homemade seasoned chips and chunky flavorful salsa were so good. I was impressed. Empananda was perfectly done. Birria fries were a huge portion. The fries were crispy and the meat was tender with no fatty grizzle pieces. The Maya burrito was outstanding with seared steak that was well seasoned. Hot sauces were all flavorful. The only thing missing was an ala carte section on the menu for Spanish rice or beans side options. Burrito entrees had fries or chips as sides. My husband was craving a burrito after a stressful week, so i found Maya and ordered him a burrito, myself a steak torta, and yucca fries to share. All delicious! Steak torta was full of meat and flavor. Would definitely do that again. Husband enjoyed his burrito, it was also a lot of food, and I also enjoyed the bite i sampled. After Uber eats tried to scam me by cancelling my order then charging me 73 dollars which they only gave the restaurant 50 of when cancelling. I was pleasantly surprised by the ribeye. It over the requested medium rare, but it was still juicy, tender and flavorful. Definitely worth the price. My Guayamas burrito and maduros (plantains) were good. Tuna empanada I didn't love. Lean meat inside a fried pastry doesn't make sense to me. read more

New place so had to have all the variety I could fit in my stomach. Decided to pass by today which happened to be a taco Tuesday so their tacos are only $2.50 which is an awesome deal. I got a shrimp, a chicken, a steak, and a ground beef taco. They were all really good. They gave me four ramekins of sauces. One was a regular sour cream (maybe lime crema), the other was a chipotle crema or something, pico de gallo, and a guajillo sauce that looked super spicy but sadly wasn't spicy at all but tasted pretty good. Honestly the shrimp taco was probably my favorite out of the bunch. The ordering over here was pretty cool, they have a few tablets in the waiting area that you can order and pay from. The lady at the front was super cool and helpful. I'll definitely be back to try some more things off of the extensive menu. I highly suggest this place if you are looking for something quick and tasty. I've only ever gotten take out here but boy I've gotten it more than any other restaurant in Richmond. The food is SOOO good and they knock it out of the park every time. Maya cooked served and devoured with this one. I tried the Maya's burrito and chips and housemade salsa last night via an UberEats order and truly had the time of my life. I told my mother about this burrito. I dreamed about this burrito. I miss her. I also missed the delivery notification and it sat on my doorstep for 10 minutes and it was still warm when I got it! They wrapped that puppy up very warm and snug in her tin foil. The tortilla was warm and soft but very strong. I didn't have to worry about it ripping or spilling at all. The rice was cooked perfectly. Queso and guac mix, extravagant. The steak was super delicious as well. I would have liked more salsa/ or thicker salsa, but everything was so great. The chips were so so good too! They had a light seasoning on them which was perfect and they were so crisp and yummy. I will definitely be hyperfixating on this burrito for the next few months. Only thing I would change is I would get an orange jarritos next time. Or maybe another burrito. It was filling enough, I just really want more. Great job. A burrito of the gods. read more

The staff was very friendly! And the food came out in 5-10 minutes! However, the food was underwhelming. Then again, Im from San Diego so I'm pretty spoiled. The mole burrito was good, the pancho villa was under-seasoned (nothing special). No spicy salsas, salt, or limes :( You can tell the food is made for the common white palette. I had ordered the Ensenada through Grubhub but unfortunately never received my order. After reaching out on Maya's website, I was contacted by their staff who was quick to help! I placed another order through Uber eats for the same thing & notified them, the restaurant called me & let me know they were so sorry that had happened & were going to throw in an extra salad for free with my new order. They also contacted me again to assure me I can get a refund for this & that they wanted to help anyway they could. I am absolutely blown away by their customer service! I knew this was a smaller, newer business & that what happened wasn't their fault. Not only is their customer service outstanding, but this salad is amazing!!! I will be a returning customer here not only because it's delicious & 10/10, but also because they're a small business that truly cares about their customers & the customers experience. This is the best Birria tacos I've had in Richmond so far! The shell was still crunchy and didn't get soggy when dipped, and they didn't skimp out on the meat either. The nachos were flavorful and the chips were seasoned well and tasted fresh. Again the nachos didn't get soggy even after being delivered, which is saying something, and had the guacamole and sour cream on the side. The empanada was not my favorite but was a good item to try. Although I have not been to the restaurant in person, I have ordered ubereats about two times now and both times my food has come in a timely manner and was packaged well to retain freshness and heat. My most recent order consisted of the shrimp burrito, chips and queso and the tuna empanada. I absolutely love the shrimp burrito espescially since it comes with avocado and a chipotle sauce in it that really just knocks me off my socks, it's so good. The tuna empanada was different but I thought it was really tasty! The chips and queso are chefs kiss! Their chips taste fresh and come in a little brown bag which is so nice because you can close it up if you don't finish them and they still taste fresh after a couple days! Also they have some kind of seasoning on the chips that make them that much more special. Nommm nom nom I smashed it to say the least.
