I had to stop at this place, it caught my eye driving by. I had a feeling it would be "authentic" and I wasn't disappointed. Nice staf, food was great, and they had a little salsa bar which I appreciated. I like to try all the different salsas. I had 3 different tacos and menudo soup. All of it was delicious.

Some of the best BBQ Cheese Tacos with Consome (Birria tacos) I've had in RVA. Definitely recommend! [GF]

I just realized that I haven't written a review for Restaurante El Chido! One of my favorite places in the West End, for many reasons. --Food: The first reason is because everything is delicious. I've had their soft corn tacos with every kind of meat they have, birria tacos with consomme, hard tacos (Chipotle fried is what they are on the menu), sopes, gorditas, huaraches, elote, and probably other things that I'm forgetting about. My favorites: - Chipotle fried crispy tacos: I don't know how authentic crunchy tacos are or if they're an Americanized thing, but I loooove these. They come with pico de gallo, meat, cheese, and cabbage, and a side of salsas. I love the orange Salsa Roja too! My favorite is the picadillo (ground beef and potato) and the grilled chicken, but the pork and barbacoa are good too! - Soft tacos: Meat, onion, cilantro, and cabbage. At first I was getting it without cabbage, but now I'm sold. They're really solid. - Sope: Little edible masa plates topped with deliciousness? Yes please. I'll take two. - Birria: Where have you been all my life?! Beef tacos with cheese and a nice pan fried shell? With a beef soup to dip or sip? Love it. - The other things are good, but these are my favorite. --Cost: Super affordable. Costs around $15 for a filling meal. --Atmosphere: I'll be honest, I've only ever picked up food on the way home, but the inside looks nice enough! The plaza it's in is next to some other stores in the Food Lion lot, so it's incredibly easy to find parking. It's nothing fancy, but it does what it sets out to do. --Service: Everyone at pickup is incredibly nice. Always a good experience. --Overall: I don't order from here 2 to 3 times a week because I don't like it, haha, I'll just say that. Food is very affordable and very tasty, what more can you ask for? It's not the most glorious place but it doesn't claim to be. I definitely recommend stopping by the restaurant or some of their food trucks if you haven't yet, perhaps you'll find a new favorite!

Stopping in here was my nephew's idea. He'd had the Birria Tacos before and loved them, so I thought I'd give them a try. This is a casual, no frills spot where you order and pay at the counter, they bring you your food out, and you bus your own table. The menu is a bit overwhelming. Signs and photos posted everywhere. Very Mexico street food vibe. Smoky kitchen. It helps if you speak Spanish so you understand what you're getting, though the staff speaks English pretty well. The Birria Tacos come with a soup that tastes exactly like the tacos (good). The shell is fried cheese. You get three. Tasty. Everything is very authentic Mexican. You won't get much ice in your drink. I might stop in to try other items, but it won't be a regular stop.

My taco hunter adventures lead me to El Chido! I was on a quest to try authentic Barria tacos with consume. When I pulled up to the restaurant I was a little confused with the name! The store front sign said Los Camoles. Thankfully the sign on the door said "El Chido" so I knew I was in the right place. The store front windows are plastered with some of the different food options they have which is very enticing. Buyer be ware the menu is mostly in Spanish! Thankfully I know a little Spanish so I could move quickly thru the menu without having to ask "what's this" every few minutes! The staff was very pleasant and wore gloves and masks. The food was a little on the pricey side compared to other places I've been. The Barria tacos were okay-ish. There seemed to be a a big lag in flavor with every item we ordered additional spices and herbs were needed. Overall El Chido was in memorable at best and falls short amongst its competitors .

The absolute best place to eat authentic Hispanic food. Being from Texas I'm super picky on my Hispanic foods and this place is so good that eat here almost weekly. Atmosphere is great if you wanna dine in but I usually order to go since my lunch break is short. Speedy service, friendly staff, and hot fresh delicious food.

Seriously delicious! If you want real authentic Mexican food... And I mean REAL... This is the place. Reasonably priced taqueria with a large menu including tortas, gorditas, and pambazo, as well as the usual enchiladas, tostadas and burritos... and of course...TACOS. Mouth watering tacos. Everything has a good variety of meats to choose from. This is my go to place for authentic Mexican fare in Richmond. Plenty of seating in a nice cheerful atmosphere.

It was mid day so we were seated upstairs with no wait. Staff is super responsive and friendly. Outdoor seating was great with its view of the street below. Complimentary nuts and olives were given. Sangria was my drink of choice and it was delicious. I the drink was largely fresh made with their house wine and was so easy to drink. After a couple of glasses, I wanted to try their popular meat and cheese tray. I asked about a combo of both Spanish cheeses and meats. The sausages were excellent and the soft and hard cheese just added a nice touch to the snack.

We ordered sangria and the table red wine and both were delicious. The sangria rioja is a touch on the sweeter side, which I personally don't mind, but just be aware if that is not your thing! It did taste better once it was a little bit diluted. The rice dish (arroz meloso) was one of their brunch specials and it was FANTASTIC! It has shrimp, chorizo, and chicken, and the rice was cooked and flavored to perfection. It was like a mini paella and the portion was huge. Definitely big enough to share for two people! I even told the waitress they need to add this to their menu permanently and not just as a special. We also ordered the patatas bravas (the crispy potatoes with spicy sauce), and it quite literally transported me back to my time when I lived in Spain. It came with a side of garlic aioli which was divine...creamy, garlicky (but not TOO garlicky), and seasoned well. the red sauce on the potatoes was delicious and spicy, so beware if you are not fan of spicy food. We had a little mishap with another tapa (the pan iberico, which they have listed as a flatbread) which I unfortunately did not take a picture of and did not care for at all. They gave us the vegetarian version by mistake, but our waitress was awesome and she recognized the mistake right as it came to our table. We got the right one and it wasn't bad, but definitely wouldn't order again. That would be the only thing I would avoid from the menu, as it's not traditionally Spanish. It was like a mini pizza with chorizo and had manchego melted on top. I'm sure a lot of people would like it, but it just didn't make much sense to me! Atmosphere is warm and inviting, and I can't wait to go back for a wine tasting and more tapas. Try them out :)

Mariscos El Barco has been on my RestaurWANT to Try list for some time now. I'm a huge fan of ceviche and have heard incredible things about theirs. We weren't too hungry so decided to share a guacamole and the ceviche de pescado. Do know that they have very generous portions here with great prices. We were seated immediately, there is plenty of indoor seating. The walls are yellow and they have cute seats that look boat themed. It's located in a space that looks like a home. There is plenty of parking in their parking lot out front. Our waitress was kind and attentive. Our food came out pretty quickly. The guacamole is incredible. It's absolutely delicious and elevated by some lime. I highly recommend ordering this. They bring you out chips to start with so you can use those for any additional dipping. I think I can be picky with ceviche. It was still really good and I would be interested to return to try more seafood dishes off their menu.

You can easily split most dishes, and the larger portions of the appetizers (ceviche for example) can be easily split among big parties. They are absolutely a seafood restaurant, so don't expect much else. But there is a lot of variety to their seafood menu and everything is delicious.

Couldn't even taste the empanadillas because they had so much crema all over them...that should be on the side so we could actually taste the food . The steak was OK (not Cuban in any recognizable way) but the very smallest portion possible....for a "special" that we paid extra for, we expected it to be special in some way. And the platanos...THE PLATANOS...super over-fried and dry as a bone with no flavor, no salt, no nothing. We left a huge dish of them on the table. The key lime tart barely had any lime flavor. The flan was lumpy! The "tres leches" cake is just plain yellow sheet cake with simple marshmallow frosting.
