Hi friends. Second time to Torchy's, and here is my review after giving this restaurant another try. The restaurant was much cleaner this round. The teas were filled and available. A good and needed improvement over my first experience. Service was stellar. We came at lunch during a rush so we ordered online to avoid the line and sat to wait since we planned to eat in. While waiting for our order, staff checked in with us and then made sure our food was plated for eating at the restaurant. They then got our drink cups to us so we could get beverages right away. A really thoughtful service experience and it was very much appreciated. The food flavors are great. As noted before, Torchys offers some unique taco options that are easily lovable. The catch here- and in my minds it's a significant one- is that the food temperature is concerning. It was served barely lukewarm, mirroring our first experience. Our food came straight from the kitchen so it's not that it had been sitting. Even if it had, you would think that heat lamps would have made it warmer than what was served to us. Three other people in my party had the same experience with other entree and meat types. It made the meal a bit unpleasant and reinforced my concern that the "hot" food at Torchys may not be kept at a safe temperature. I would not recommend Torchys because of this. Final note: I reported the temp concern after my first Torchys experience here on Yelp. Torchys management was kind enough to respond to my review and asked that I provide feedback at the restaurants site for additional follow up with me, which I did. I did not hear anything back following my submission, including anything that might explain how they manage or ensure food safety. read more

The re-evaluation of Torchy's, and has my opinion changed. We took my MIL and she had never been and was impressed. The democrat and the republican tacos really shined. The fajita taco was a little lack luster but otherwise it was good! If you need a quick, no fuss place for get dinner this is an easy choice. The salad was good, but for a few pieces of old spring mix, but that's almost expected at this point. It was overall pretty and we will be back! read more

Twenty three days ago, I left a four star review. For this eatery. Now I am revising it. I read another review that said the reviewer and three people in his party had an unpleasant experience in this restaurant because the food wasn't hot enough. He wouldn't recommend it he said because he is afraid that the temperature for hot food isn't safe. Well Torchys lost two good customers my husband and I. Every time we go to this eatery my food comes out cold and I have to send it back to be reheated. We never had this problem in our home state of New Jersey because restaurants there use microwaves. My husband and I are good cooks and we use our microwave to heat up leftovers. It doesn't mean that the quality of food is sacrificed it just means it's hot. If I make a pot of soup and my Steve and I portion it out and it's not hot enough we put it in the microwave. This doesn't detract from the quality of my delicious home made soup. Here in the Richmond Virginia bGlen Allen area eateries or rather the people in charge of them seem to have a personal vendetta against microwaves. But if a customer sends food back because it's cold and the staff person has to throw it out and create a new order then food is wasted let's not forget there are homeless starving people out there. There is only one other restaurant I reviewed in Cary Town where we had this problem and that was the New York Deli, Where I was told that it's against the law in Virginia for restaurants to have a microwave on the premises. From my Steve For me well I had an opposite problem. I ordered the scrambled egg potato and cheese taco and the tater tots plain. When I received it, my food had ingredients I didn't order. I had to send it back. This is the third time in a row this happened. And we won't be going back anytime soon. My Jackie and I are specific. We say plain tots nothing on them no spice but I got salsa and bacon. My wife is super specific she says no spice no pico de Gallo and no salsa. When I spoke to the manager Calandria, she blamed my wife for not eating her food as soon it arrives. What the kitchen needs is a microwave so if the food is cold it can be reheated for two minutes then served back to the customer hotter than when it came out the first time. From Jacqueline We will miss the people who work at Torchys especially Jeffrey and Adam who are so warm and friendly. On one occasion my husband and I had a disagreement and I cried. No one made us feel bad. Not one staff person made me feel conspicuous. Believe me it's rare for us to disagree let alone in public. The one that we did not like at all was the Caribbean jerk chicken. Would go back and try others and especially the dips. It's natural to compare new experiences to previous experiences, so of course my first instinct is to compare Torchy's to Chipotle. The answer? They're both delicious with quality ingredients, though this one is more upscale in terms of both price and service, yet the portion sizes are way better at Chipotle. A visiting friend wanted to give this place a try so we stopped by for tacos. They had plenty of parking in a private lot and we didn't have to wait in line for long despite it being a Friday evening at peak dinner hours. The counter service was quite good and expeditious, as was the delivery of our food to our table, on top of a table visit by the manager (a pleasant bonus that even top restaurants have stopped doing for some reason). I ordered the Republican, which was delicious though the sausage casing was not cooked to the point where it could be easily bitten off along with the sausage contents. My friend had the Mofaux, which I am told was quite good though the side sauce was a bit hot for her (her loss was my gain, I enjoyed every drop of it!). Our chips and queso was good as well, if unremarkable. They had a full bar over in the corner, which I'm sure would be cool for those seeking some mixed drinks with their casual taco fare. All things considered, Torchy's is good, though I struggle to come up with a reason why I would opt for it over Chipotle. Certainly the service is better and the ambiance is nicer, which makes it more date-friendly, but if I was dining by myself or with friends I would rather stick with the option that gives me the most for the least, and that's Chipotle. Still, this was a fun visit and I'm glad I came! Overall: 4.0 stars ---- Pros: - Great service, with a table visit by managers to check in, which is impressive considering how few restaurants still do this. - Tacos are quite good and very creative. - Plenty of nice seating inside, and the full bar is a nice touch (though we did not opt for alcohol on this occasion). - Private lot parking. Cons: - The value proposition here is pretty clearly geared toward dates or those wishing to stick to a diet: portions are small despite having similar pricing to other similar restaurants with larger entrees. - Some menu items need a little help. Cased sausage (as in the Republican taco) can be challenging to cook evenly even on good days, but on tacos it's important that the casing bite evenly with the sausage contents. Although I have been to Texas before, I had yet to visit a Torchy's Tacos, until now. I visited this location on a Monday morning near the end of February. I arrived shortly after they opened, so I was the first in line. I specifically wanted to try the breakfast tacos, so I ordered The Wrangler and a bacon, egg, and cheese taco. After placing my order, I picked a table to sit at. I don't remember if they gave me a buzzer or if they gave me a number to put on the table, but the staff brought my food to my table. My tacos were delicious! I really enjoyed The Wrangler taco, which included bbq brisket on it. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience at Torchy's. I was excited to try this place, as my friends have recommended. But I was very disappointed with my food experience. I ordered two tacos, and ended up paying around 14-15 dollars, which I find insane. But I was willing to pay good money if the food was worth it. But the tacos came out gross, cold and small for the price. I was so mad I wasted that money. I will not be returning. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. He had been here previously on a weekday for lunch and thought I would enjoy it. And he was right! We opted for two tacos each, plus a side of chips with tomatillo salsa. The tacos are about six inches in diameter. I was unsure whether to order one or two... I went with two and was a bit full by the end of dinner, but I also enjoyed chips and salsa before our tacos were brought out. I ordered the Crossroads and the Tipsy Chick tacos. I found the protein servings on both to be generous, and all the ingredients fresh and tasty. If I had to choose between the two, the Crossroads one was my favorite. My husband ordered the Green Chile Pork and the Trailer park tacos. Several servers stopped by our table, refilling our chips and making sure we had everything we needed. I noticed the staff cleaning tables fairly quickly as people left. I loved the decor of the restaurant. First time trying Torchy's so I didn't realize you order at a counter like a fast food place..that was interesting, but not a problem. The lady that took our order was nice and patient. There's no service unless you sit at the bar. The food came out pretty fast. I got the trailer park and the tipsy chick. Both were good. The tortilla was kinda thin but no big deal. I tried the cherry limeade and it was a bit too sour for me but it was a fine drink...really got the alcohol at the end. The strawberry margarita was good. Was kinda confused about what to do with our glasses when we left since there's no indication that they belong over where you dump the trash. It's a really casual place where you can get a pretty good taco. Nothing really stands out but nothing is really bad either. I'd try this place again. read more

Torchy's is basically a high end fast food restaurant. The menu has some exciting flavorful tacos. There are alcoholic drinks and a bar so they do provide a fun eating and drinking experience. The atmosphere is very lively and a bit loud. It was tough speaking and hearing the counter associate. The ordering process involves getting into an ordering line and placing your order verbally. Once you pay you are provided with an electronic device to be placed on the table of your choosing. The tables are close together so that adds to the noise level and crowdedness. There is an app, but that's just for pickup, delivery, catering or to checkin. If you join the rewards program you will receive a half size order of queso and chips. It would be easier if you can use the app to order in store so that the counter associate could just scan your order. Once seated the queso and chips arrived almost immediately. The tacos were followed within 5-10 minutes. The margaritas took some time which was a little disappointing to have food with no beverage. This restaurant is newly opened and will probably improve the drink timing over time. I would definitely be returning since every taco sounds amazing and I only tried 2 tonight. I ate at the original torchys for years in Austin and was nervous for the RVA locations to open. Franchises are tricky and often are not as good as the original. And with that said -- PROPS to this Torchys and their staff! I went the first night it opened and was shocked by how packed the place was, and even more shocked by how smooth the staff and kitchen was keeping everything moving. I've done 2 big pickup orders now and everything has been right and delicious! The bar is super fun, the margs are just right, and the queso is exactly what I've been missing. Came here for my dad's birthday lunch today. It was delicious as always! My favorite is the fried avocado taco, but instead of the fried avocado I ask for fresh and also switch to a flour tortilla. Met a friend for lunch today on their first day open. They did a good job handling the crowds. The staff was very welcoming and walked around encouraging everyone to sign up for the rewards program and answering questions. I found the music a little too loud but not unbearable. You line up to order and are given a number that you place on your table when you sit down. A server brings out your food. The staff was very attentive about cleaning up. They have tip jars by the registers and on the computer if you pay by credit. We ordered the trailer park and the chicken fajita tacos. Both were delicious. They mistakenly put both tacos on one tray (plate) but quickly brought us an extra tray. Unfortunately we didn't know which sauce went with which taco. Definitely worth going!! read more

We headed over there to see what all the hype was about. It seems like taco places are popping up everywhere around Richmond, VA. I've been pretty disappointed by many (I LOVE tacos). So I went in very skeptical. The line was very long but moved quickly, when I got close to the front I saw the prices and said these better be worth it for $6.00+ per taco.... Well I can say that they definitely put a generous portion of meat and toppings on their tacos. I will say I try three different ones and they were all filled with SO much flavor. They were a little short staffed as we waited in line for some time while the employee helped a customer with a lot of questions. The good came out pretty quick though which was nice. What I got: Fried Avocado - 5* my favourite taco of the bunch! Great flavor and pairs well with the creamy green sauce. Crossroads - 3* nothing monumental. My friends in Texas always rave about Torchy's so I of course HAD to check it out, and to be honest I don't really get the hype. Past the queso, I was not super impressed. When you get there, you have to order first and then find a table to sit - we got there around 1pm on Sunday and it was already packed (including the bar) so I would expect a little wait to find a table, but not more than a few minutes! There is a a lot of indoor seating, as well as some outdoor seating! The service is very nice, they bring out the items to the table as it is ready. In terms of the food, the green chile queso is AMAZING! We also got the mexican street corn which was quite delicious. Coming to the tacos, we had two migas tacos, one fried avocado, one baja shrimp. The migas tacos both came cold by the time they were at our table, and we thought it was okay. The portion of egg on the taco was very generous, however it made the taco quite difficult to pick up. The hot sauce that comes on the side, was really good. The fried avocado - you can't really taste the avocado. Finally, the baja shrimp was really good - except that the coating of the shrimp was very salty so it was a little hard to enjoy. Finally, the tortilla themselves were not as toasty as I personally like. We also got a couple grilled chicken burritos - that we asked to turn into bowls, which was a really great option to have! However, the table personally didn't like their bowls as the ratio of toppings to rice - there was apparently too much rice. They have happy hour from M-F from 3pm-6pm. I've had my eye on this place since the day they opened and finally made my way there. We walked in blind not knowing what to expect. The dining area was cute, with no line, just one person in front of us. We had no idea what to order but settled on jerk chicken and tipsy chick with a side of rice. Both were really good, my jerk taco was spiceeey but I loved every bite. My daughter loved her chicken, too. We were both surprised cause we really had no idea what to expect. The price was great, but I just wish it was either a little bigger or a combo with 3 tacos. We had to do $5 a taco, and a la carte rice to fill up. I didnt see any vegan options. I hope to see that next time I go. I'd love a meat substitute taco. Either way, I will absolutely go back again. read more

There are multiple places to begin this review 1. After specifying a severe allergy multiple times, I was given the allergen and learned halfway through eating it they had gotten my order wrong 2. The store always seems just slightly dirty 3. When notified of allergen and the issue management just offered to make a new one. No consideration for guests with allergies, if you have one stay far far away. read more

I love their brisket taco! Specifically The Republican taco, it is so good and hits every time. Their Elote corn side is also really good, the rice and beans are just okay. I would stick to their tacos, as my husband got a burrito once and it was really bad. I've also tried their queso once, and it was really good but SO spicy and I can usually handle spice. So it's Cinco de Mayo! I see a new taco spot and I try it! Maybe because it was my first time I was not...sold! It's a cute trendy place. Ambiance is super modern. I didn't know what to order so I took a chance on Jerk shrimp tacos. It came with one taco . I order chips and queso...but it wasn't "blanco" queso so I sent it back. The salsa was super spicy...I guess hence the name "Torchy Tacos"! One of the servers played with a dog outside...I can only pray she went and washed her hands afterwards. First visit to Torchy's Tacos, didn't really know what to expect. Verdict, we will be back So, they do have a bar, but it really is just a fast food joint. Tables are close together and it is LOUD. A plus, is the additional outside seating! If you order for pickup, orders are all the way in the back. When you walk in, you join a line to order your tacos and drinks. They will give you a numbered pager and you then select a table. Our queso came out almost as soon as we sat down and tacos followed pretty quickly. They were busy, so I assumed we'd we waiting a while. There were 4 or 5 people running orders, probably why it was fast. Plasticware is on the side counter by the fountain drinks. Napkins were on the table. Bar service took a little longer than food, drinks were good. People at the counter taking orders and food runner were all super friendly. They even checked that everything was OK after serving.
