Taco Bamba has been on my radar for quite sometime. I got the spicy chicharrones and birria! Everything was well seasoned and extremely flavorful, as you can see from the picture I had to stop myself from eating so I can take a picture of the birria lol!! I came in for a pick up order, since I was in willow lawn for light shopping. I love that they have a cool bar area, and outside seating. This definitely looks like a cool hang out spot for tacos and great drinks. I was really impressed with their to go bags (pictured with the chicharrones) which look more like a cool tote bags, I'm almost positive they could be reusable (which I will be doing)! While shopping it's hard to find a good lunch spot. Taco Bamba was rocking! I loved walking inside and hearing great music and being greeted by friendly staff. There is plenty of parking and the option of outdoor dining. It's wonderful to have breakfast options served all day with free coffee. My bacon egg and cheese empanadas were delicious. Love me some Taco Bamba! The local inspired chef creation tacos are delicious and can't go wrong trying any. However, I've been loving the basic traditional tacos with just onions and cilantro, like the carne asaada and pork. Two tacos and a side or two here is my sweet spot, but when feeling indecisive I'll sometimes add a third taco. The wings are tasty too. Bamba Fries are a treat, but I find them a little heavy and better as a table shareable. Not sure how they would hold up on takeout, but dine in they are great at least. I enjoy the chips and guacamole, and the rice is so moist and flavorful. You wouldn't expect an order at the counter spot to have such great food and drinks, and even a nice happy hour! Ordered a pickup order from here. The restaurant looks great and the lady at the bar was nice and order was ready when they said it would be. The restaurant only had maybe two or three tables when I showed up for pickup. We ordered a few tacos, a torta, street corn, we also ordered a steak taquito(ish) appetizer, not sure what it's called on the menu. Everything we got was really good, I loved my torta. We were missing a fish taco and a shrimp taco from our order which was very annoying. My favorite taco was the taco bamba out of the three. The elote was also quite good especially with the amount of cheese they loaded on it. The queso was thick but tasted average for what it was. The inside was a bit small and seating was hard to find due to the busyness. Overall I had a good enough experience to come back. My friend is a fan of Taco Bamba and was eager to bring me here. We came at lunchtime, and there were plenty of open seats, including at the bar. At first glance, the meatless crowd might wonder if there's anything for them, and I found that I could easily ask for their spicy mushrooms as my "meaty protein." Straying from my norm, I chose sopes. Taco Bamba also strays from the norm, as their version is one large sope with a generous amount of toppings. While the tastes were there (nice spice), I found the dish a bit challenging to eat. It comes in a food tray, and it was hard to use the plastic utensils you're given. I demolished my sope (and plastic fork) just trying to cut it and get a piece. Womp womp! If there was to be a next time, I think it would be better to try these spicy mushrooms on a taco or quesadilla. The sope is just too clunky with the vessel it's served in. read more

I would say this place is alright ! The $6 happy hour flautas were yummy with the refried beans on top. I would say the guacamole was advertised as grilled and something out of the ordinary. It was pre packaged like the chipotle gauc. It was still pretty good tho I just felt aggressively misled. Also this place specializes in mezcal and we were able to get happy hour mezcal margs ! They do have a pretty strong happy hour. My boyfriend got the Jeffrey I believe it's called. It was the egg roll thing with beef and Chorizo etc. he did not enjoy that said the breading wasn't the way he likes it. I don't eat pork so I was not able to try that. Recently went back to Taco Bamba with a couple of friends since we were craving tacos. I tried 3 new tacos and ran into similar issues from my previous review of saltiness in 2 out of 3 of the tacos. The Arabe taco was made with pita instead of a tortilla and was phenomenal! It felt very filling and had a good flavor profile. The Herky Jerky was made with carnitas which was a tougher cut of meat and skewed salty and spicy. We also tried their queso and chips and churros (again) which were both delicious! I had to amend my review and add a star for service! The star of the night was our server Scarlett. She was absolutely phenomenal, knew the menu well, offered great recommendations and checked in on us often. This is one of those places that you frequent because the service is just that good. Honestly one of the best service experiences I have had this year and I would highly recommend visiting and sitting at the bar with her or requesting table service with Scarlett. Overall, Taco Bamba is a good option for a quick dinner. I would recommend asking for suggestions from your server or staff to avoid the salty pitfalls I fell into and make sure to try some of the non-taco options such as the queso, salsa, chips, drinks and don't forget dessert you will definitely want the churros. read more

Went in to place an order for a to-go order and it ended up turning into a Gordon Ramsey episode, the food was getting mixed up for each person in line and it took 31 minutes of me waiting there listening to the bickering to even get my food! TLDR - HUGE menu with lots of unique tacos. SUPER flavorful. Might come back to try something more mild. Vibe - the inside is vibrant and there are a few tables outside for dining. We find the music a bit loud but the service was friendly and quick. I do wish the person taking orders gave more recommendations because the menu is GIANT. I told her this was my first time and she said okay - haha! Food - there were SO many tacos I wanted to try but I landed on Taco Bamba and Shrimp Bing Bang Boom. I also got a classic marg (happy hour!) and chips and queso. Here are my thoughts: Marg - standard but good Queso - meh and SPICY! I was not expecting that and couldn't finish it :( Tacos - both tacos were almost too flavorful. It's actually all I could think about while I was eating; I was so surprised. The Taco Bamba was a bit heavy on the pickled items so I would probably remove the pickled peppers next time as I found the flavor a bit overwhelming. Taco Bamba wasn't my personal favorite but maybe it was because I ordered the wrong things. The menu was very overwhelming so I randomly ordered a carne asada torta and took the cashier's recommendations for tacos: the Scott's Addiction and Dragon Gordo. My husband loved the tacos but for me, there were too many competing flavors on both tacos and they didn't go well together to me. Have passed this place for years...stopped by after work one day recently during Happy Hour...loved the ambiance, greeting by staff and overall atmosphere...complex yet simple menu that was overwhelming as I was trying to decide what to eat...GREAT MUSIC!!! It's just mediocre tacos. Nothing stood out that makes me want to return. Ordered the taco bamba and asade with an elote. The asade taco was entirely too salty but the yogurt sauce was tasty. They do load up the tacos so imo it was worth $5. And the elote has no flavor cause it was overpowered by the cojita cheese. One of my closest friends recommended this place. The music inside is so L O U D. You can't even engage with the cashier because it's so loud. Go here if you're going with someone and you don't want to hear them talk the whole time. I ordered two tacos. One of them was the spicy shroom taco. This one was so spicy that it was hard to enjoy or even recognize any of the flavors. The other taco was the dragon taco. This one had shredded chicken, cilantro, veggies. It was also very appealing to look at. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! Would love to order this again. The service was pretty good. They checked in on us frequently. I'd go back! Having spent time in NOVA I was so happy when I heard we were getting a Taco Bamba in RVA! Love that this location is not too far from me and has plenty of parking. My first experience at this location I ordered the huevos rancheros for breakfast with the addition of chorizo. Unfortunately, when I got home and opened it there was no meat (which I was charged extra for). I called them let them know and annoyingly made my way back to make the exchange.. they were very nice about it and told me I could keep the mess up as well. Funny enough, I ended up not even liking the chorizo as it didn't have much flavor and gave off more of a ground beef/sausage vibe so it's a no for me on their chorizo. I have since gone back and tried the nachos with barbacoa, and ordered the "Rich Men" taco which were both tasty however I wish they layered the nachos instead of throwing all of the toppings on top ( my common complaint about nachos in general lol). All in all Taco Bamba is worth checking out and a good addition to the neighborhood. Everyone I've encountered at this location have been friendly and customer service is very important to me! We are long time Taco Bamba fans from our time in Northern VA, and were thrilled when they decided to expand to RVA. The tacos are even better than we remembered! Between my husband and I we tried 5 tacos: Bamba, Al Pastor, Pescado, Carnitas and Machu Pollo. All excellent. I like that the fish is not fried in the Pescado, and the traditional slaw topping was crisp and fresh. The Machu Pollo is chicken with esquites and a bunch of other stuff. Out of this world! The signature Bamba taco was as good as we remember, and the carnitas is tried and true. The only slight negative is that the pork in the Al Pastor is a bit too seasoned for our liking. No trip to Taco Bamba is complete without sampling their homemade salsas. I could drink the salsa verde. Pay attention to the spice levels - when they say spicy they mean it. Taco Bamba has a huge menu, lots of things to nosh on besides tacos, and there is a taco on the menu to suit anyone's taste buds. We can't wait to go back. read more

Came here for their grand opening (and created this business entry for them, amazing it already had four reviews before I got to review it myself!). It was quite an exciting time and I was looking forward to trying out Taco Bamba, as the concept was new to me. The staff were very pleasant and hard-working despite the long lines, which was a nice change of pace from the somewhat-challenging typical grand opening experience. They had a good amount of inside seating and a few tables outside too, which I bet are very nice on warm days. The food is quite good, opted for their OG breakfast taco on this particular visit. Quality ingredients and great taste as well. The prices are somewhat high per taco but I suppose that is to be expected from big box chains these days. Overall I enjoyed my visit here and plan to return semi-regularly to try out other items on their impressively long menu! This place opened less than a year ago and it's definitely more than meets the eye! They have a vast selection of tacos and even a variety of non-tacos items. Every taco was LOADED. One take-a-way is that they are a little heavy handed on the sauce so I do recommend asking for light sauce if you like a dryer taco. Overall they all were full of flavor. The bamba fries were a nice accompaniment to the tacos -- the true definition of loaded fries. The biggest surprise was the size of the torta. When they say super torta they mean SUPER torta. Two people could definitely tackle it. They also have a pretty good size bar inside. The woodfire pineapple margarita had a smoky flavor with a slight pineapple undertone. However, I'm dinging them for how tough the meat was in the Scott's Addiction. I could not bite through it. I love love love coming to taco bamba! They have such an extensive menu so it's worth taking a peak online before going if you get overwhelmed by too many choices. We always order a wide variety of tacos to split and have rarely had one that we didn't like, so I think it's great to just go with your gut and what you're in the mood for. Don't skip chips and the salsa verde - so good. Very casual vibe and service is order at register and then wait for them to call out your number. There were so many choices, I did not know where to begin. So I finally picked 4 of my favorite taco flavors. I was intrigued by the Mexican hot dog so I added that as well. My husband wanted a quick dinner but not fast food and Taco Bamba delivered on all fronts. Not only was the food delicious but the service was fast and great! We each got two tacos and then shared an order of taquitos and black beans and rice. We loved the salsa bar and I would love to go back for happy hour since they have a nice bar.
