Some days, hunger combines with a little bit of luck, to serendipitously guide you to a delicious lunch discovery. We were busy running errands for the rescue squad on a cold December afternoon in Richmond, when we came across En Su Boca. We were famished, and there was easy parking out front, and we'd always been curious about the little shop, so we grabbed a space and went inside. While it was cold outside, the restaurant was pleasantly warm and welcoming on the inside. The hostess greeted, showed us to our table, where our wonderful server took over and provided excellent service throughout our stay. The restaurant isn't beautiful on the inside, but it looks well loved and well visited. It seems like a place that I hope gets a lot of traffic because the food was excellent. The photos I'm sharing today are of an order of three fish tacos that my associate enjoyed greatly and highly recommends, and my own carnitas burrito, which was fantastic. The menu features a lively selection of burritos, enchiladas, tacos, and quesadillas, with many protein choices to fill them and various toppings. Plus the usual sides and whole variety of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The restaurant also offers happy hour specials as well as special dishes based on the day of the week so check their menu to see what might be on the schedule. It was an easy lunch it was very tasty and service was inviting and makes me and my dining companion want to go back. Came for a business lunch today and heard lots of raving about the tacos! To start we had chips and guacamole and some crispy Brussels. They. Both. Were. So. Good!! The chips were so crunchy and served warm, which always makes me smile! The guacamole was fresh and a flavor burst. The lunch taco meal is a pretty good deal. $10 for 2 tacos and a pretty good sized side bowl of black beans and rice. You got to choose your protein and I chose marinated chicken and a Brussels taco. This was my 3rd time at en Su Boca. I remember enjoying it the first time (around 2019) and the second experience being just ok (around 2021). So my husband and I came to give it another try - for me, it wasn't a good experience, but for my husband it wasn't too bad. The sampler we got was pretty good - the habanero, green salsa and queso were delicious. The red salsa was standard and the guac was good although it needed salt (IMO). Now on to the no bueno part - I ordered the al pastor (pork) taco and braised beef taco. The pork had almost zero flavor and was dry. The beef taco wasn't terrible but there was a hugeeee piece of fat in it. And yes sometimes fat is good but in this case, it really grossed me out. Despite this with my tacos, my husband said his shrimp burrito was good although he wasn't a fan of the sauce drizzled on top. All in all, I prefer other taco spots in the city. read more

Yo, I'm writing this because I've been a regular at En Su Boca for years. I've always vibed with the crew there, but honestly, the energy lately has been a total mood killer. The service the last few times has been straight-up rough. Most of the staff seems so grumpy that it actually makes sitting there uncomfortable. Last week was the absolute kicker, though--the team collectively lost their marbles over some chairs. It was so over-the-top that we actually thought it was a joke. It got even weirder when our server decided to pull a "mic drop" with the checks, slamming them down and tacking on a 20% gratuity. Just to give you some context: we weren't a rowdy frat party. We're a group of 30-somethings in suits just trying to grab a post-work drink without the side of salt. Never been here before, honestly I avoid the city usually at all cost. Had a friend who talks about the place and had nothing but great things to say. Today I decided to try En Su Boca. Have to say since I went around 2 pm I found parking to be very easy right in front. When I entered the employees and greeted were all very friendly. The bartender seemed to have a good relationship with all her customers as they were all laughing and having a great time. The space is small but I still found it comfortable and clean. They have a pretty good size drink menu however I only had water on this visit. I got the ground beef enchiladas and I have to say they were excellent. They have a smaller menu however the protein combinations can make it a much choice. I honestly really enjoyed my meal and thought the flavors were very good. I would definitely eat here again. If you're in the area and looking for some good Mexican food give this place a shot. read more

My wife found En Su Boca in an obscure reference in cookbook, and it became our mission to try it out. The exterior sets your expectations at a reasonable level, not promising anything too fancy but letting you know that they have all of the basics to pass health code standards. As my wife said while we parked, "You never know with a hole-in-the-wall-type of place: it could be scary, it could be the most amazing food you've ever had." The decor gives you the feeling that it may have been intended to be a Mexican motorcycle shop until a last minute pivot to sell tacos. It's fun and funky and it works. The service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. We ordered a house margarita which was okay, but a little disappointing in that it didn't stand out at all. Once the tacos arrived, we were blown away by those! The portions are healthy and the flavors were widely varied and all amazing! We ordered a side of sour cream, which wasn't great and wasn't really needed. The sides of black beans and rice were disappointingly lacking in flavor. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and felt like it was a great value for the quality and size. We'll be back, but will definitely change up our orders a bit. read more

My son and I visited on a beautiful fall day so we got to enjoy the cool patio. I got three tacos- carnitas, Brussels sprouts and the marinated grilled chicken. Really liked the carnitas and Brussels but the MGC was a little bland. My husband and I went for a relaxing mid week dinner and it was a great choice. I've been there before but he hasn't. The atmosphere is always chill and while sometimes in the past it has been loud, this time it was not bad at all. We both got a house margarita and chips and salsa to start. En Du Boca it's such a weak place to go for Mexican flavors. I love that they have a wide variety of different proteins, repaired in different ways, and even vegetarian and vegan options. I usually opt for their delicious brussels sprouts, but they are so many options. You cannot go wrong. From there you can decide to have your meal either as a burrito, a burrito, bowl, tacos, or a quesadilla. The portions are very generous. You are definitely getting your moneys worth. It's a smaller sized restaurant, but they provide both indoor and outdoor seating. If you go during a colder day, they also have heaters on their outdoor deck. So you will definitely be comfortable. Unlike those restaurants that serve Mexican food, just be warned that they do not serve you complementary salsa and tortilla chips. I do recommend trying their salsa trio,which is delicious, or trying their queso as a yummy appetizer. read more

Five of us visited En Su Boca on a cold Saturday right before the lunch rush. Parking is usually hard as this is a busy area with limited parking, but we were able to park right out front on this visit. The host was friendly and we were seated right away. Even though we have visited ESB multiple times, we had no idea they offered brunch on Saturday and Sunday. So, my partner and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Torrijas (french toast). The Huevos Rancheros was a large bowl with multiple layers of goodness. We both thought it was very delicious. While the flavor of the torrijas was delicious, it was delivered to the table with the syrup already on the toast and the texture became mushy. If I ordered it again, I would ask for the syrup on the side to see if some of the crispness can be preserved. And maybe see if they can add a side of bacon or sausage, or something other than sugar and simple carbs, to go with it. IMHO, the service was friendly and fast and we all really enjoyed our meal. En Su Boca is a go-to when we are in Scott's Addition. read more

Tip for En Su Boca: if there is a wait, they don't take down phone numbers so you have to wait in the restaurant or they will skip you on the list. You can wait at the bar and get a drink but it is often pretty crowded and tight. The good news is the wait time is usually shorter than they say it will be! En su Boca has some of my favorite margs in the city. They make them super strong and they are in a tall glass so you get more than other places. To eat I got 4 different tacos. They serve them on the traditional double corn tortillas which are ok but I wish they had a flour tortilla option. I always love getting all different tacos to try different flavors! Chicken tinga: good and flavorful, but a pretty basic chicken taco Carnitas: again very good but pretty basic carnitas Ropa Vieja: this one had the most sauce and spice of the three so far which I really liked! Brussel sprouts: absolutely delicious. I love being surprised by flavors especially with tacos and this had a sweet spicy kick to it. I recommend trying it!! I have also gotten the burrito before and loved it- probably more than the tacos. Small restaurant and a little pricy but really good food and drinks! The happy hour deals are great too. read more

The service here is absolute incredible. The waiter and waitress that served my party of 8 at almost 11 PM were so nice. They kept drinks coming and refills were often. Seating was a little uncomfortable in my opinion. The queso and chips are some of the best I've had. The chips themselves are incredible. The salsa is not really my thing, but others at my table enjoyed it. The quesadilla I got was pretty big in size but it was a little too dry for me. The chicken tasted more like pulled pork, which I don't like but the overall quesadilla was alright. The cilantro on top added some nice flavor as well. I have been to En Su Boca many times since 2020. During the height of COVID, I ordered take out. It was their only option. The taco bowls are the best option to order take out. If you can handle cheese, I highly recommend the queso covered option. As this spot opened up more (COVID less threat), I enjoyed the outdoor window to order food and drinks. I wish there was more seating for this area. There is always a wait here. It can be packed on a Monday night. It is not my first choice for tacos in Richmond. However, I haven't had a bad experience here. It is best to sit outside. Inside is small and crowded. I highly recommend the Mexican street corn. It will literally make your mouth water! As a vegetarian there are many great options for taco filling. I recommend the brussels sprouts taco. The sprouts are crisp and seasoned perfectly. I also enjoy their speciality flavored margaritas.
