Original fried chicken
Nyreen G.

Great food and staff is very helpful and friendly. The fried chicken is very flavorful and yummy!

Potatoes. More like salty glue. Tasted more like instant flakes. Supposed to come with gravy... do you see any?

I ordered for the first time from Pollo Campero. It was a disaster. I ordered: 1 4 piece mix (fried and grilled) Roll, Mashed Potatoes, Corn Fried Chicken Sandwich 2 Large family size plantains 1 empanada 1 flan When my order via Uber was delivered over an hour later, I got 4 pieces of only grilled completely cold and rubbery chicken. No chicken sandwich and no empanada as ordered. The remainder of the sides were all cold and soggy and absolutely disgusting. When I tried to call to ask what happened, the main number has a recorded message entirely in Spanish and I could only understand a little bit. I was already upset. I am 4 months pregnant and just wanted some chicken. This is not right in any way. You don't take customers' money and not deliver the product or service as advertised and ordered and not have a way to rectify it. Essentially, Pollo Campero stole my money. I have sent my "comments" and sent a follow-up and nothing. When they say "fix your experience" it's to train and improve in the future. What about service recovery? And why do I need to help you to fix the experience. That is code for ineffective leadership. Plus, Personal preferences on food is one thing, but blatantly stealing money and lying is another. They will never get business from me again.

Mixed fried and grilled chicken. Campero beans and rice, street corn salad and empanada.

One of my favorite homestyle chicken restaurants. Though it is a Mexican restaurant the food is slightly Americanized and has a next blend of flavors. My favorites are the campero beans the street corn salad. The fried and grilled chicken are equally delicious. I usually order mine half and half to enjoy both styles.

I'm no expert in Cuban food because DFW does not have an abundant amount of Cuban population. When I think of Cuban, I think of Cuban sandwiches. I'm not too familiar with other types of Cuban food. With that being said, I have enjoyed my visit to Pollo Campero. I was able to try a little bit of their menu. Got some fried chicken, grill chicken, Camperitos (nuggets), and empanadas. sweet plantains, THE BEST!!!! I love sweet plantains! These were so good. I make these at home but they are no where near this good. Must get this as a side. Camperitos, not your average chicken nuggets. I could eat these everyday. They were meaty and delicious! empanadas, I see myself coming back for these spicy chicken empanadas. They were so good. It's hard to keep the quality of the pastries in a fast food joint but they delivered. fried chicken, They were also good but between this and the camperitos. I'd go with the camperitos. grill chicken, flavorful with lime and herbs. Juicy on the inside. All were delicious!

This place is tasty! We stop here at least once a week. The grilled chicken is tender & flavorful - it falls right off of the bone. The Camperitos aren't your normal chicken nuggets either - they are all white meat & have herb flavorings that are complemented by the cilantro cream sauce. As far as the sides are concerned the Yucca fries are my favorite, especially if you're looking for a something slightly different than regular french fries. My wife loves the plantains. The food may take a little longer & may be a little more expensive than your usual drive-thru, but it's definitely worth it. Also, the staff is always friendly.

YOLO so must eat this Pollo! This is a pretty detailed review, so if you just want to know the nitty-gritty, it's really good. I was waiting for a prescription to be ready at the Walgreens across the street, and Yelp directed me across the street vs. driving through Whataburger next door. I had been there before, ordered a fried chicken sandwich, and sacked every salty morsel. But literally gained 2 lbs overnight due to the salt. So, i went to their website, checked out their menu nutrition options, and BAM saw a (semi) healthy choice of grilled breast and wing meal that comes with a side, choice of roll / tortilla , and drink. I almost chose the slaw (they have 2 kinds, and when restaurants have more than one choice of same veggie, you know their going to be good). But, nutrition facts steered me away, and I chose a better option: black beans. Sprinkled with just the right amount of onions throughout plus the creamy sauce made them surprisingly gourmet. I'll post some photos, of both food and online nutritional value....the sodium is off the chart, and it's all the seasoning in the skin. And trust me, it's yummy. But even peeling it off, the bare meat is flavored just enough. It's a mystery how they pack so much flavor and keep it moist! I also ordered the chicken nugget meal (menu name is different than "nuggets"), but that's what they are. I tried one and would rate it a 3 out of 5. And their fries are definitely not made in house. But it's a Latin restaurant. Not a Mickey D's.

Authentic Flavor indeed.

I had the shrimp salad and pozole, and Colin had the chicken brasa tacos. All of it was delectable. We asked for a spicier salsa, and our amazing waiter Daniel brought us this orange salsa that was probably habanero and SO GOOD. I had the Machete, which was insanely refreshing and came with frozen watermelon cubes instead of ice Colin looooved his Out of Office. Atmosphere 10/10. Food 10/10. Service 11/10. There are so many Mexican\Tex Mex restaurants in North Texas and Mexican Sugar continues to impress. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - I love the atmosphere at Mexican Sugar. The restaurant itself reminds me of Mexico inside and out, and the different types of seating (communal, patio, traditional, cool) will give you plenty of options. But in the evening, when Happy Hour begins Mexican Sugar will fill up with tons of patrons and good energy. 1 Star. Service - The service has always been good on my multiple visits. This is a Mexican restaurant, and the staff know the menu very well. If you're not sure how something is pronounced or tastes, just ask! 1 Star. Food - There's brunch on the weekends and traditional Mexican dishes (tacos, enchiladas). On my visit on a holiday, I went with brunch and the Barbacoa Chilaquiles. This is a traditional Mexican breakfast where tender barbacoa is layered on tortilla chips along with a sunny side up egg. The result is a fantastic combination of flavors, texture, and heat. Yes, it's a slow burn, and those of you who like spice will love it. I had to finish it off with a Mexican Flan as a perfect way to cool my mouth. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Honestly, I don't know why Mexican Sugar is not in my rotation of places in Irving. It hits every mark and I've never been disappointed. Yes. I'll be back. 1 Star.

Until my most recent visit, Casa Pollastro was one of my favorite restaurants in the DFW area…read more Unfortunately, I did not love this last visit. First of all, I got an email inviting me to come visit the restaurant with a buy one get one free, but it kind of seemed like they were annoyed that we were using it. This could be just my anxiety, but I felt like we were treated a little bit less warmly by some of the staff than other tables. For example, a manager of some type was walking the floor. He stopped at the table before us and checked in on them, skipped us and went to the table after us and checked in on them, and then only on his way back to wherever he was going, he stopped reluctantly and acknowledged us. It definitely made me feel like we were not as welcome as the other tables. Second, I don't like the inclusion of the picanha for the higher price (vs. what they were doing before which was an upcharge if you wanted the steak), because the protein that I like at Casa Pollastro is the chicken. I don't really love their steak and do not want to pay $10pp more for it. Lastly, what I had loved about this restaurant in the past was that it felt like I was enjoying a meal at a family home, served with love and care. I think that they've made some changes which are smart for a restaurant, but it took away a lot of the warm and fuzzies for me. It felt like they're trying really hard to be a high-end restaurant but what I remember from this last experience was coldness and putting profit first. Now I can't be mad if they want to grow up as a restaurant and this is just part of the growing pains, but I will mourn the loss of the experience that we loved so much that we chose to have our engagement party at this restaurant. We will not be back.
