I had a few allergy-related questions and was able to get answers quickly because the cashier checked with the kitchen. Unfortunately my questions were focused on dairy so we were surprised by the bacon on the beans and other meat (probably pork) under the collard greens. My husband doesn't eat pork so he ended up only eating the beef. The cashier said the order would only take about ten minutes so I enjoyed a quick drink at the bar while waiting. If we get a chance to return I'll probably get the fried green tomatoes and just beef brisket (no sides).

A couple specific food problems were: 1) Friend green tomatoes. Given the presentation, we asked our server if they were fried pickles. Nope! Okay, that's fine. At first. Thought they were just super hot and need a minute to cool down. But they were drenched in oil from the fryer. At first I tried dabbing them in the basket. Then, realizing that was doing no good and the breading was just going to be soggy, I took them out and blotted them on the brown paper table cover. We only at a few. Not good. 2) The meat - pulled pork, brisket, and Alaskan haddock - were all lacking flavor.

A staff told us that wait time came reach to 50 mins due to walk ins and online orders and all food is cooked to order with 2 chefs. I chose to stay because I already knew what I wanted and didn't want to spent time trying to find another restaurant in the area, especially with 2 kids. There is a small seating area. When we got to host stand to order, I was told that Grits and waffle cut off at 4pm daily... this upset me because I had looked at menu prior to coming and that's what I really wanted. Im visiting from out of state, so it's not easy to come back. I ordered at 4:17pm. We were seated after ordering. The process is interesting. Around 4:23pm, I saw another table get chicken and waffles and it just irritated me because that's what I wanted. Plus, I was very VERY hungry at this time. The menu really should indicate time cut off for food. Also, pasta doesn't get sold until 2pm. Kids shrimp came at 4:56 and kids chicken came a couple minutes later. Kids meal come with caprisun. Seafood platter (my meal) came at 5pm. The staff was friendly and the food was enjoyable, nonetheless. Service could've been better. I would return for the food.

I've been to Sweet Jam a time or three and each time was just as perfect as the first time. After several visits, I would have to say that my two favorite dishes are their Chicken and Waffles and their ridiculously creamy and delicious Shrimp and Grits. Today is the 2'nd Friday during Lent, so for me that means no red meat. With that being said, if you are looking for a dangerously delicious red meat free dish I would recommend Sweet Jam Cafe's Shrimp and Grits. Let's start with the Chicken and Waffles- the chicken and waffles is a plate of one waffle that is cut into quarters and plated with three full size wings. The waffle is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I think their might be a hint of vanilla in the batter and I love it. The chicken, oh my gosh, sooooooo good. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. If they sold just that flavorful chicken skin, I would buy a whole bucket of it. So good. The Shrimp and Grits are...... All I can say about the Shrimp and Grits is to go to Sweet Jam and order a bowl. It is so creamy, the grits are cooked perfectly and the shrimp.... Oh the shrimp. Do your mouth a favor and try this dish. You will not be disappointed.

WHERE THE VIBES AT?!…read more My girlfriend and I just moved to the Norfolk area and were looking for a place to eat lunch at. After looking through a few menus we decided to dine at Sweet Jame Cafe. 11/10 would definitely recommend this Black-owned, local business. She orders shrimp, fried scallops, yams, mac and cheese, and cornbread I ordered the chicken and french toast with strawberries + whipped cream When I say DELICIOUS!!!! Everything was cooked to perfection and took no time for them to bring the food out. Plus, we found out they serve an all-you-can-eat buffet on Sundays for $20.00 per person. This family-owned business cooks with a lot of love + their customer service and attentiveness is top-tier. If you're ever in the area, give this place a try I promise you will not be disappointed. Also, if you're a sweet tea lover like me I'm here to tell you, IT'S LIKE THAT!!!! Thank you, Sweet Jam Cafe, for the amazing experience and great food. Will be back VERY soon!

She didn't just drop us off at our table and leave, but she made sure to mention who was waiting on us. The little things I didn't ever think I would appreciate. The ambiance was really cool vibes. I love being able to see the kitchen and the bar was very nice centerpiece that just added to the vibes. The music level was close to perfect and the music selection felt very inclusive and yet still felt the representation. This was literally a random stop because our first choice was closed so I was totally not dressed to fit in so I am thankful no one made me feel out of place. The waitress was so nice and friendly. Really everyone was friendly. I even loved when we left the chefs were telling us "thank you" and "have a nice night." The food, OMG!!! Hands down THE best food spot I've had for dinner in Norfolk. This place even beats out the BC. We started with the pork bites and baaby before I knew it, it was devoured (10/10). The way the huge piece of pork loin was tender, juicy, and flavorful should be studied (10/10). The sweet potato purée and southern veggies paired wonderfully. The chicken?! Juicy!!! (8/10). I don't even care for creamed corn but here was next level. What I also don't care for is bread pudding, but OMG the complimentary dessert sent me over the moon. I wanted more (12/10). 350 Grace was absolutely bussin and a true culinary experience. I can't wait to return in more appropriate clothing. It's definitely a date night and anniversary type vibe without the over expensive prices in case you just want to show up by yourself. Thank you all for a wonderful experience and I wish you the absolute best and much success!!!!

You would think this would earn the restaurant points, but it just further added to the dissatisfaction. How can a restaurant with such good food be so unpleasant to be in? From the moment I stepped in and interacted with the curt hostess everything was so tense and stressful. Unfortunately the last two reviews of this restaurant completely match my experience tonight. We were rushed and pressured to place orders quickly or lose our right to eat there. I will admit that not all of my party was present on time. But I (the one who made the reservation) and another guest arrived right on time to claim our table. This establishment's policies around ordering are so strict and rigid that it's impossible to relax and enjoy yourself. Life happens, people show up late and things don't always go to plan. The inability for the staff to adapt and accommodate leaves the guests feeling as if their presence is a burden. No one goes to a sit down restaurant to simply get their food and leave. Fine dining is also about the experience. I specifically sought out a Black-owned restaurant to patronize in recognition of Black History Month. To be made to feel so unwelcome after being so intentional about being in that restaurant was the worst part of the whole thing. 350 Grace, do better. You've got the food down. Get the experience down, as well. If managing a busy dining room of patrons is too difficult, might I suggest converting to a drive-through?

After giving it another try I realized it was not for me. The first time I had chicken tenders and mash potatoes, I thought the tenders were bland and wasn't fan of the gravy. Today we tried the bone-in chicken, Mac and cheese and coleslaw and again I just wasn't a fan. The Mac and cheese was floury and grainy, the coleslaw had a strong vinegar taste that I personally didn't like. The chicken was crispy but lack flavor although it was seasoned more than the tenders. I wished the cornbread wasn't thin, it does have bits of corn that I appreciated but it wasn't anything spectacular. I'll say give it a try but personally I didn't enjoy it.

Let's check it out shall we? We were seated a minute after walking in. There were a few people dining inside on this cloudy day. The decor is nice resembling a type of restaurant you may see in New Orleans. Right when I was looking through the menu, I ran into Chef Moe who greeted me with a handshake. It has been years since we last saw each other but the vibes came right back since Sophia and I were long-standing customers. We couldn't talk long since he was busy, but it was great to run into him again smiling from ear to ear seeing me there. Great people indeed. How was the food you might ask? Pretty damn good. We both ordered their fried catfish meals with sides (mine came with fries and sweet cornbread and Sophia's with mashed potatoes and gravy and mac-and-cheese). The fish was seasoned perfectly and was huge. It was big enough to cover a football field (just kidding). The fries, as always, tasted great and the cornbread was delish. The both of us ended up taking home leftovers where the food didn't lose any taste from before. It was so refreshing to stop by after so many years. And it was wonderful seeing Chef Moe continue to bring good vibes to the Norfolk community through his cooking. You know we'll be back soon. Till next time :)
